Been a long day on the road. How 'bout a late dinner of skirt steak and a mushroom and cheese omlette? Homefries, green beans and a small ceasar salad sounds good too...

All day with a kicker in the train and signal troubles is makin' me HUNGRY!!

Mookie, Chad and Locomutt,

Thanks for the kind words. It was certainly an incredible weekend to be out and about. One of these days I'll actually put some trains in my pictures that I show around here! [:P]

Chris, loved all the pictures. Think my personal favorite is "Emerald Lake". And the
little furry squirrel is cute, too.

Wow, Chris, just... wow. Those will make great wallpaper shots. Heck, I wouldn't mind framing a couple of them for my walls, if they were mine. Speaking of mine, I finally finished uploading my Chicago shots to rrpicturearchives. They're certainly not nearly as pretty as Chris's, but they're interesting railroad shots. Enjoy.

Hey Carl, does I-294 go by the yard where you work? My wife and I spent the weekend in the area around O'Hare, and I managed to get a few minutes of railfanning in by taking a walk down Mannheim from our motel and watch some action in the yard immediately south of the airport. I've got a few pictures, hope to put them up on rrpicturearchives.com tonight. Also drove past a huge yard on the way out of town (Proviso?). Another neat experience- standing in the parking lot of the Rosemont Target and watching the planes come in to O'Hare, couldn't be more than 200 feet above me. Got some more great pictures of that.

Brian

Yes, chances are the yard you saw off 294 is Proviso--I can see 294 quite well from my tower. I saw it for the first time from that highway in 1964 (class trip); never dreamed that I'd be working there beginning seven years later.

Headed north on 294 (back to the airport from Proviso), after you make a curve toward the east, you cross over the UP Milwaukee Subdivision). Look back south and you can see the north end of Proviso--Yard 9, which is 28 tracks wide and is basically our receiving yard.

The yard just south of the airport is Bensenville; used to be Milwaukee Road's.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!! The breakfast of turkey bacon, sausage,
scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, hash browns, gravy, biscuits, country ham, and
redeye gravy are on the warmer bar. Help yourself to a good hearty breakfast to
start your day.

Lunch today: any kind of sandwich you want, or, there's plenty of beef stew w/
cornbread left from supper last night.

CW, thanks for the comments. The little furry fellow is a Golden Mantle Ground Squirrel. They're interesting little buggers, but kind of spoiled around the Bear Lake area. I used my wide angle lens to get that picture, so I probably was only a couple of feet away from him!

Just dumb luck- I didn't know what I was taking a picture of until I got home and looked it up. It was funny watching that engine just run up the line as far as it could, sit there for awhile, and then head back- it was like they were making a coffee run or something.[:D]

Good grief!! By the way that engine looked, hauling coffee may be the only job it can do. Looks like still some old MILW paint with a hand lettering job for SOO.

We see the weather in Houston is back to normal. Sorry Ed.

Well, I'm teaching at age 34 and now instead of doing homework at night, I'm grading it. Not that much different, except for a little less pressure.

Glad Houston is back to "normal". It was about 48 degrees this morning in west Michigan. Frost is coming before long! [:D][tup]

JDV5th I'm going to have to say almost the same thing that I said to rgroeling, good luck in grading papers. I know that can be a pain at times, espeacilly if you teach in a school that doesn't have block scheduling (spelling).

CW I think I will take a turkey and chesse sandwitch, if you can make that a turkey hoggie I'd love that!

Chris those pictures are wonderful!! I really do love the pic of the elk in the brush. Seeing those pictures is making me get anxious to see the hills, valleys, and mountains in good old Penn's Woods when heart of Autum comes around. Over here in PA the trees haven't started to change color yet, everything is still very green.

It's not too bad as long as I stay on top of it. I teach some classes twice (math, science, Bible) and don't have to teach reading, writing, spelling. That makes my grading load much easier by eliminating so much of the language stuff. Some nights (like tonight) I just have to kick it in and get a bunch done. Some nights I take it easy. It's a great job though.

Have a great evening all. Enjoy your dinner.

Actually, THAT engine was doing real work- the one that looked like it was doing a coffee run was the nicely-painted Harbor Belt GP40X. Not pulling any cars- maybe they were afraid to get it dirty!

Brian, I've seen that locomotive at Proviso on at least one occasion.
You might want to correct the name and reporting mark of the railroad involved--it's the Indiana Harbor Belt (IHB). Commonly known as the "Harbor" around here, to distinguish it from the "Belt" (Belt Railway of Chicago, BRC).

Colors: since our area is probably the driest around, our season is going to be dull, and short. Some trees are turning already, and it isn't nearly as vivid as usual.

BOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRDDDDDDD!!!!

When the 10:00 leaves Lake Placid station on Friday morning, that'll be me in the left seat. Also when the 11:15 leaves Saranac Lake, the 12:30 leaves Lake Placid, and the 1:45 leaves Saranac Lake.

I'm redeeming my certificates for two round-trip cab rides on the Adirondack RR. Fear not, there will be lots of pictures, not to mention that the fall colors should be spectacular.

OK, thanks- fixed it, and the site identified it as a GP40P-2. Darn! Coulda sworn it was an X.

Hello everyone and happy tuesday![yeah], although my posts wil probably be more energetic on FRIDAY!!!![:D][:D][:D]

I have a question that is bugging me, and thought that maybe I could get answered here.. So...

Does anybody know where the Burlington Northern SD70s in the Exectutive (creme and green) paint run??? I have only seen one here in Chicago, and was wondering where those things normally run.

I am a BN fan, and woulid love to photograph an Exectutive unit fro my collection of photos! [:)]

Any input would be great!
