Happy New Year to all and don't forget to make a lot of noise on the 31st. Both for New Years and for Houston Ed's birthday! He is really well-preserved for 50 isn't he? (tee hee)

Looks kind of slow in here today; but, if anyone does make it in, you'll find cold cuts in the cooler (lunch meats, lettuce, tomato, onion, and all kinds of condiments to make your own sandwiches. There are chips on the counter, and plenty of whatever beverage you'd like to have with your lunch. Will be back in later on this afternoon. Mutt and I will be going out shortly, to do a little late Christmas shopping. (We didn't want to fight all the crowds earlier).

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!
LET ME APOLOGIZE FOR MY MISTAKE !! I proofread my earlier post this morning, twice, and still missed my typo on President Ford's age. Datafever, thank you for correcting me. He was, indeed 93, not 73. Guess I was sleepier than I thought. I'm sorry for my mistake.
Coffee is ready, fresh juice is made, and on the warmer bar, you will find: turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy w/homemade buttermilk biscuits, scrambled eggs, toast, oatmeal, and fresh baked bagels and cinnamon rolls.

Conditional reasoning? I don't see that. I see dependency. There are two events, and one event is dependent upon another event. In order for the park to close, the sun must go down. If the sun does not go down, the park will not close.
I sure am glad the diner is still open. That coffee smells good, and I hope there's a slice of pecan pie left over. This diner can really be a wonderful place to hang out especially when the weather is frightful as it has been today. Here in Reno/Carson, we have had sustained winds of 70 mph with gusts up to 90 mph. So far, the tally is 4 semi's blown over and my green trash can with wheels is probably about 4 streets over along with a bunch of other folks trash cans. I also heard that a U.P. freight derailed in the mountains around Portola. The winds in the mountains have been at 100 to 120 today and that apparently was a factor. First report said no injuries, just a big mess.
So now the rain is pouring down and sometime tomorrow will change to snow. I heard the news of President Fords' death at 93. He was a great person who I had the privilege to meet several times when I worked at Eisenhower Medical Center some years back. I think the country would have been better off if he would have won the presidential election in 1976.
C.W., you are a treasure for the folks who call this diner home. It's getting late, and time to meander home.....................

Make that 93.
Dan, Mutt and I talked with the cat yesterday. She said to tell everyone "Hi", and she'll see everyone next week, probably after she gets through the mountain of work in her office. She did say that if she gets the chance to get in this week, she'll try to drop in and say hello to everybody.
Guess that's about it for me tonight. Not sure what time I'll be in, in the morning. It'll probably be 7:30 or 8 a.m., before I wake up. Not really too sleepy right now, so guess it'll be awhile before a go to sleep.
Everyone have a good night's sleep, and sweet dreams.
Dan
Thank you, CW, for the mac and cheese. I had stopped in yesterday, but I didn't have time to eat so I missed out on the mac and cheese then, but I must have smelled it, causing my craving for it today.
The promised rain has finally begun. I don't know how much we'll get, but at this point it appears that it will be more of a steady sprinkle and not so much of a downpour. The wind has been strong from the south (which only happens about five times a year) so it has been quite warm, an excellent day for walking.
Good Afternoon!
I did some train watching this afternoon and saw 5 trains. The last train I saw had his horn stuck on. He was about a mile away when it stuck and it kept on blaring all the way past where I was watching. Listening on the scanner, he was asking the dispatcher how to make a horn turn off once it was stuck. Despite the problems, the engineer was still nice enough to give me a wave.
There is another major storm system coming our way for Friday through Sunday, but again it could all be rain. This one might have just a bit more cold air than the previous one, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Everyone have a good evening!

Datafever wrote:Hey, CW, how about macaroni and cheese with cubed (diced?) ham? Maybe with peas?
Well, Datafever, there is macaroni & cheese, leftover from yesterday. Not too many helped themselves to it last night. Yeah, I'll add peas on the side, and here's some cubed ham you can add in to your helping of mac & cheese.
Everything's laid out on the warmer bar, so you all can help yourselves when you come in. There's also a couple of fresh pots of coffee, fresh iced tea, lemonade, and the regular sodas, and hot water for hot tea.
Morning All,
Well, I made it back to Chicago with only a couple minor glitches (couldn't check in at the E-check In, etc.). I got to the airport at 3:30AM, and I'm ever so glad I did. The Frontier Airlines check in line was already out of it's "normal" range at 4:30 AM. Jay you are certainly right about the airport. After spending just a couple hours there this morning, I really felt bad for the folks (especially those with young kids) who got to spend days there. Certainly not the best way to spend Christmas.
Meanwhile, while I was at home, I took a stab at making some Christmas cookies. I've brought some to the diner. Sorry they're a bit late.
Well I hope you all had a great Christmas, and I wish you all the best in 2007. Take care!
Edit: P.S. James, good to see you back in here! How's life down under?

Ah yes, Boxing day, one of the big traditions here is the boxing day cricket test match played in Melbourne every year since 1956. Australia is playing England at the moment
Thank you for the welcome back too!

Good Tuesday morning to everyone! Hope everyone had a terrific Christmas, and also hope you all have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
to our new patron, and back James!
Joe, thank you for putting the coffee on, making the juice, and putting the rolls out. I really do appreciate all the help I have in here. We have a lot of very nice and good people in here, who are capable of helping me keep things "on the ball" at the Depot Diner and Coffee Shop.
It is sooooo very nice today, not having to deal with Tuesday Produce. The Dare to Care Center is closed this week, and I'm very grateful for that!
If anyone has any requests for lunch and supper, please let me know: other than the Christmas Turkey dinner leftovers, that is.
We didn't wake up to the snow they predicted for us here in Louisville, but I understand that it is quite slippery out, and I heard one of the news reporters telling people to stay in, unless they absolutely have to go out. Everyone have a great day!
james good morning and happy boxing day!!!
boxing day is an english tradition where people switch roles for a day(like a butler and the master) dont know if anyone here still celbrates it or not.
juice coffee and rolls are on. we had a slight dusting of slush.I have to go to work tonight but mamma has the week off like matthew does.

(stumbles into the dinner drunk on the overwhelming blessings of our savior Jesus Christ)
Wow, what a miraculous and blessed time this is for the faithfull. I am too overwhelmed by the abundand miracles bestowed upun me to try and explain (mabee if I had Ed's talant with words) but trust me when I say nothing is impossible for our savior for those that have faith and obey his commandments. And bless the lost in the valley of darkness, lest they see the light of those that walk with God's abundance in search of perfect faith !!!!!
Mmmm, what a warm and homey place this diner is. This place reminds me of a great little diner in Carson City, Nevada called the 'Cracker Box'. If your ever in the area, look up this little diner on Hwy. 50 E and Stewart St.
The weather here was beautiful today. Sunny, in the 50's with blue sky and big lenticular clouds floating around heralding the soon arrival of cold air with rain or snow. This was the first Christmas that our little family has spent all by ourselves with no relatives. The three kids had a good time opening presents and seeing what Santa Claus left in their stockings. On the menu was Turkey, homemade mashed potatoes (Yukon Gold potatoes), gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce mixed with apple sauce, homemade ice cream and a big Apple pie.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
Bill
I hope that everyone had a great Christmas.
No rain today, but the forecast is still calling for rain tomorrow. Temps are staying mild - in the 50s during the day and down to the upper 40s at night.
Spent the afternoon at the newlyweds house, their first Christmas as a married couple. After campaigning for it (and them having to ask the size), I was presented with my favorite gift - a RR uniform cap of the traditional style. Just need a badge for it (but we're working on that). Roast beef dinner (Dad made the gravy) and a DVD ("Over the Hedge" - hilarious) and back home to get ready for work Tuesday. Should be a slow week (famous last words).
The rain is definitely here, though, and the weatherman is promising that it'll become snow tomorrow...

Merry Christmas everyone......
Had a very nice Christmas with the family, and got to see a few relatives I haven't seen in a while (and remembered why I don't see them too often). Also got some very nice gifts, the nicest of which is a Kodak digital camera and computer dock, so I can start having fun taking pictures. I get to break the camera in tomorrow, going to meet up with Mark Hintz (aka fuzzybroken) and do some shooting on the WSOR and CN, try to catch the last of the WC SD45s before retirement.
Will be in early tomorrow (I hope) for an early breakfast before I go out shooting trains...

Chris, glad to know you are safe and sound! Merry Christmas to you.
Got some turkey ***, stuffing, green beans and corn on the warmer bar, and in the
cooler, you all will find potato salad, slaw, and pistachio(watergate) salad. Oh, I almost
forgot: there also mac & cheese on the warmer bar, along with hot dinner rolls.
DESSERTS: chocolate cake, pecan pie, mince meat bars, yellow and white cake
with caramel icing.
Hope everyone is having a great Christmas Day!!
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ on this sacred day for he is our blessed savior.
Trust in God and obey his commands and you will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams. Whatever the faithfull ask for they will get, even what seems impossible. You will not get what you want when you want it but you will on God's timetable. This Christmas I got the best present ever, a miracle I have been waiting for for 10 years. I truely hope everyone is blessed as much as I this Christmas, especially those away from home serving our country. I am so thankfull for a cup that overfloweth!!! Glory to Jesus!!!!!!!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!
