Speaking of food, the multi-state Power Ball Lottery jackpot for the drawing tomorrow night is estimated to be $250,000,000, or, a cool quarter of a BILLION. The bad news is that the odds of winning are about the same of the odds of Elvis showing up at your door with a 14 piece band to do a three hour concert of old favorites in your living room.

The winner will probably be rich beyond the wildest dreams. The winner will also have to live out life behind secure walls and fences and be forever accompanied by an armed security force. (Sounds like the place we go if we misbehave badly.)

Forget about railfanning, so be careful what you wish for.

...Our avg. here is about 27" per season.....and back in '77 the year of the "Blizzard" we had a total that season of 61" of snow....That's the most I've seen here in Indiana since I've been in this area....{First time '57}, moved here in '62...

Quentin,

As for amount of "stuff",I believe you're right. We are supposed to
get an inch or less. It's all supposed to go south and east of us also.

Kind of wish it would "go away",but, we still have more "winter weather".
ahead of us. (I remember east Ky. getting "bunches" of the "stuff" in the late 60s,
Then again in this area in 1978,and then again in 1994. (over 20" each time.))

Carl I really do hope you blew the horn at that person or "Jersey" driver who was selfishly blocking your path. Actually you should of fliped him the bird. lol

CW I'm glad that you have your voice back up but I have to say something here. You were talking about how much better Miricle Wip is from regualr Mayo. I'm going to have to dissagree and say if you want the REAL stuff not substitutes your going to have to have Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise. There is nothing better. I think I might have to introduce you to that fine eastern USA product.

Don't really remember that particular spot;usually stayed south of WCH,
and did more chasing D .T. & I. trains, than N & W.
Was really fond of going from Ironton towards Jackson.
(although, did have a good friend from college that was from WCH.)
Now N & W at Portsmouth,Oh,is another story ! (I'm not a huge ALCO fan,
but those T-6s were awesome to watch.)
I generally stayed on the "south side" of the river;around Limeville.(NJ Cabin)

I was driving to work in fine, powdery snow last night. We got enough to cover everything, force me to scrape the windows in the morning, and that was it. When I woke up this afternoon, it had all disappeared.

Temperatures are cooler than they were for January, but it's been a while since we were really in the deep freeze. No need to have a replay, though.

I know about the winter blues--in fact, I was given a book that mentioned light therapy as a way to combat them. The real solution is to get out and exercise.

I hope there's sun in Loovul in about three weeks!

The seafood buffet sounds great! And you only think those pies are going to last the weekend!

Jim - there was a discussion a long time ago about the direction of the horns. Guess if you didn't want deaf crews, you had them facing away from the cab. Wonder if this just applied to older engines w/o air conditioning? Today's cabs look like closets with dark windows! If someone waves, you can't see it! And they are always shut up tight!

Mook -

ps - I need muffs back at 2:30 CST. It was 21 this morning and will have gale force winds this afternoon!

Lunch menu and supper menus today: fish, shrimp, hushpuppies, and
the prerequisite fries. Also have cole slaw to go with it. Got fresh seafood/
coctail sauce and tarter sauce.

For dessert, made a few pecan pies and cherry pies. They should
last us over the weekend.

Joe, I thought those were ear muffs. A few weeks back she was wearing red ones. [:)]

Today's weather is rain. Then this afternoon changing into freezing rain and snow mix. Funny, the are saying the high today will be 41 but it is only 38 now. They are also saying up to an inch (of snow) on grassy area but not accumulating on the roads. It will drop down below freezing tonight, then the next two days are going to be cold.

Brrrrr, maybe Mookie will lend me her earmuffs. [:D]

Now for some humor, train humor at that. [:o)] Last week, on my normal day to be the sandman, I saw a NS engine that was meant to run long hood forward. [:0] It had the old conventional cab but was still set up to run long hood forward. As I pasted by the front door (actually the back door since it is a long hood forward operation) I noticed on the control stand it said, "Directional Horn" and had an arrow pointing to the back (would have been front if in normal operation). I thought, "Now isn't that funny!" As I was passing by the long hood section I saw the horn, a nice 5 chime one, with all 5 chimes pointed to the wrong direction. If the normal operation of the engine was long hood forward then a majority of the chimes should have pointed to the long hood and not to the cab. That just goes to show you, it doesn't take a genius to work for a railroad. [:0] [B)] [8] We never put a long hood forward loco in a lead position here. Our train crews will not accept it. But NS does run long hood forward if that is the loco in the lead position.

Oh my, it is after 11 am already. I must make a run to the store. [:(]

Everyone take care.

....29 degrees at sunup this morning here in central Indiana....What little snow we have is leaving quite rapidly...That's good. Scheduled to be on the northern fringe of the massive Low system heading up from the south west and heading for the east coast and up along it this weekend...Just an inch or so at the most to come here if that much....and then a few warmer days early in the week. Just a bit of snow scattered around on the ground here now...So far this season, we've been pretty lucky on the snow bit. East coast and points west of there, this weekend will be seeing quite a bit of it according to weather forecasters here.....We will be receiving some cold from far north though for our weekend.

Good morning, all, well the scenery looks alot better around here today, as we actually got an inch of snow yesterday afternoon! The timing couldn't have been worse, though- just before quitting time for most everyone. You can guess the results, especially after not seeing much precip of any kind in over a month. I've never heard the fire truck at the station near us leave the station with sirens wailing so many times in one night as I did last night. On the way home yesterday, we saw them attending to what appeared to be a pedestrian who had either slipped and fell or got hit while trying to cross a busy street in front of our company. Talk about a traffic snarl- between that and the icy conditions, it took us a good 15 minutes to go one block.
