Dan
Well after getting an error message 5 times I finally get to the screen where I can post.
We hit 103 again yesterday with the heat index reaching between 106 and 108 for my area. Parts of Arkansas were having 106 and 108 temps with heat index about 5 to 10 degrees above the air temp. Two, within the state, have died because of the heat wave. There have been 3 deaths in Oklahoma also. One of the deaths was an elderly lady who could not afford to turn on the air conditioning. How Sad.
Today they are saying 103 again but then dropping down into the low 90s for the weekend. I certainly hope they are correct. Even with the air conditioning on I had trouble sleeping last night.
Zach is home from his trip. I have not talked much with him yet but hope to see some of his photos soon. Who knows, he might drop by here and share a link or two.
My grass is dead. Many of the trees are showing heat stress and such from lack of rain. Some trees have brown leaves already. And just think, around here it is August which is known as the hottest and dryest month. I think we are in trouble. This is not good at all.
And if that isn't bad enough, today is my Monday. I have to go work in this heat. Some days working on the railroad isn't all it is cracked up to be.
Well I must go to the grocery store. I put it off yesterday because it was so hot, so I better go now while it is still in the low 90s.
Hey Kevin, I emailed you. Now I am looking for your reply. From Yellow Hat, Orange Vest in Arkansas. LOL
Morning all,
Got a decent pile of work to take care of today, so I had better get going. Hope you all have a great day, and I'll stop into the diner a bit later.
TTFN!

At least we are in lockstep with most of the rest of the nation - high heat and gas. 107 late afternoon. Don't know what gas price is - around expensive, but don't care. Just put it next to water, taxes, electricity, natural gas and cable. Funny - the only thing that ever comes down is the heat!
Dragging Carl out of closet, putting him on straight back chair next to table, so I can look in his baby blues while I have a short yowl with him.
Have the day off again tomorrow - think I will look into a new hairdo and maybe some new earrings....
Maybe #^~^# ? You know it doesn't look any better as fur and earrings than it does on a ACe or GEVO....Ugh!
&^~^& Much better!
eikooM - (I am looking in the mirror!)
Had to close a couple of windows last night - when I went to bed it was all of 56, but it's only 8am as I write this and already it's 74, so it'll be a warm one again... At least it hasn't been oppressive the last couple of days, just summery. I think we're supposed to see that rain Friday or Saturday.
Gotta do a quick road trip to pick up the daughter's Dalmatian tonight. She's headed for the Jersey shore and the dog gets a vacation at my house. It really is a vacation for him, too, as she lives in an apartment and he can roam my back yard at will, via the dog door.
Not one for venison, but I'm sure there's a regular burger lurking somewhere in the cooler....

Our premium unleaded here is $3.23/gallon. It takes $0 to fill my Trek up as opposed to $50 for my Truck! Any cheeseburgers left? I'm kinda hungry for a late nite snack!
I may have to fire up the grill for you folks tomorrow...I've got ~200 lbs of venison to take care of and I'm not moving it too far. Let me know if you're interested!

Sarah, the coolness is in certain rooms of our house--not outside. As much as I'd like to be able to share that with you, I'm certain that some objections would be expressed.
Still missing.

Well....yes it is another hot one here in Kentucky it got up to about 96 here. I think I'm going to back up Mutt's statement and say yes, Carl please send some of that coolness down our way, even if it involves heavy rains.
CW are the white castle burgers ready yet???
Um.. unfortunitly, I can't think of anything else to say...except....STAY COOL.

Mutt, the user interface has to be one of the best parts of Lightroom. Previously, post processing would look something like this:
1) Download files from Compact Flash card to Hard Drive in Windows.
2) Open RAW files in Raw Shooter Essentials.
3) Scroll through files in RSE, and mark those that are worth post processing.
4) Perform Post Processing on a Shot by Shot basis (though I think batch processing was possible in RSE...I just got a little nutty about tweaking white balance and such individually). This round of processing includes adjustments to white balance, exposure, shadow / highlight contrast, saturation, etc.
5) Export file from RSE as either a .TIF file (for printing) or as a .JPG file (if it's going straight to the web, etc.)
6) If necessary, open the file in NeatImage for noise reduction (in the case of shots at higher ISO's). The Pro Version of NeatImage is available as a Plug-In for Photoshop, but I don't shoot an awful lot at higher ISO's, so I didn't feel it necessary to spend the extra dough. It would save some time and effort for those that shoot at high ISO's a lot, though.
7) Open the file in Photoshop. Perform any harder tasks (e.g. cleaning up dust spots with the clone tool, selective desaturation for shots like this: http://www.pbase.com/copcarss/image/58163022 , etc.)
8) Apply Unsharp Mask in Photoshop.
9) Re-size if it's going to the web.
Lightroom incorporates many of these taks into it's base structure (and I'm told that the retail version will support Plug-in's, so even more may be added). I'd list the steps now, but I'm not fully confident that I've established a set routine like I had before. I will say that catalouging shots, RAW conversion, curves editing, white balance, sharpening, noise reduction (though this leaves a little to be desired...think I'll stick with NeatImage for now), saturation, printing, etc. are all nicely blended in the new program.
Throw in some fun stuff, like the ability to create slideshows (which should include music in Windows Beta 4...it's already available in the Mac version), black and white conversion, complete with a nice channel mixer (no need to shoot with filters), etc. are available.
Maybe I'm getting a little too excited about this...and I'm certainly probably jabbering too much (sorry Mookie), but I really do think that this is a great step forward in the realm of photo-processing.
Meanwhile, I do have to grab a couple sliders. I loved getting sliders at home, and alas! White Castle doesn't seem to exist in Colorado. At least I haven't found any yet.
Well, better be off. Hope you all have a great evening!

I've seen their act up at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival! Very funny...
Congrats Carl on getting #15,000. I was hoping to be lurking before it got there, but oh well...
As far as my observation above is concerned, BC and LM on the mark Mook, it has nothing to do with greasy "finners".
Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
And, before I go back into the closet, I'll also post the 15,000th reply.
Joe, have we got the restaurant for you and Matt in Downers Grove--Right, Colin? Granddaughter was thoroughly taken with the trains--both inside (Lionel) and out (BNSF).
If I've got this figured out right, I should have lurked long enough to post the 15,000th "item" here.
Hot again tonight--chance to try out our new a/c. I'm hoping the storms make it here to cool things down. The warm temperatures have wiped me out to the point that I wasn't able to fully enjoy the relatively cool day we had yesterday. Did have a great couple of hours with daughter and granddaughters, though--and the older one may turn into a railfan, after all!
As long as the virtual White Castles come with virtual bicarbonate, you should be OK.
afternoon
busy busy busy.got done mowing the yard and watering the flowers and tomato plants and saved some for myself. that felt great. any of those white castle burgers left? I'll take them for lunch tonight. need a large lemonade to go please.
So I spend lunch hour messing around in Lightroom. I re-processed this image using LR (as opposed to my previous workflow involving RAW conversion in RSE and sharpening tweaks and re-sizing in PS):
That's a picture of Puke (no, I'm serious...this is Puke, and he performs with Snot) taken at the Renaissance Fest over the weekend. Overall, I'm quite excited about LR, and it seems like it will provide a great means of processing pix (from RAW or JPG) when extensive work is not necessary on an image (that'll still require the use of Photoshop).
I would encourage all of you that do much picturating to download this (although beware...it does seem like a bit of a memory hog...but then again, so is Photoshop) Beta version. If you find features you'd like to see added, Adobe has a forum available for voicing your thoughts on what the retail version should be like. I've already suggested one big issue (they provide lens corrections for chromatic aberrations and vignetting, but no corrections for barrel/pincushion distortion, perspective corrections, etc.)
Meanwhile, I suppose I should head back to work. Catch you all later!

Good morning everyone. The high is supposed to be around 100 °F. today but with an ugly 50% humidity! I'm definitely staying in as much as possible for obvious reasons!
Like I said, I hope the refrigerator is stocked full of cold sodas, especially 7-Up and Coca-Cola Classic!
EDIT: You might want to order more White Castle hamburgers--I love them!

Our regular unleaded has been $3.07 for about a week so far. Premium is ~ $3.17. Why are you using premium unleaded gas in a Ford Ranger? Mine, with the 4.0L, doesn't specify that kind of gas. Wouldn't it be less expensive on regular 87 octane?

I certainly hope they are not "muddy".
Mookie, if Willy makes ever makes it to your office make sure and show him a certain steam engine photo.
Anyone want any hot weather, I will be more than happy to share? I will gladly trade a trainload of hot air for some nice cool Canadian air. Right now it is 87 with a heat index of 94. The actually temp is suspose to go up to 102. I might have to use the bathtube as a pool this afternoon. (Now where is that rubber Ducky?)
