Dan, thanks for the recipe!!  Can hardly wait for cooler weather, to try it!!  (We don't have ac at home, so will have to
wait until cooler weather to do any baking.)

Supper tonight:  Got some sandwiches made up:  pimento cheese,  ham salad, and tuna salad.  Think we'll have
potato chips with the sandwiches.  Got plenty of ice cream for dessert.

We're breathing a sigh of relief here--it'll only make it to the middle 90s.  The AC at work couldn't keep the indoor temperature much more then ten degrees cooler than outside, but that's enough when you're coming in.

Saw UP 1995 again this morning, headed out of town, followed by the CNW duo and pulling 124 cars of MPRCB.  A lightning stripe on steroids.

Going out now to watch trains, from the confines of an air-conditioned pizzeria.

Still missing.

Right now in Omaha it is 98 with a dew point of 75 producing a heat index of 111. I've got work study at school to pay for tuition for the next 9 week days and the heat isn't going to break until Friday. I have a feeling I'll probably be stuck outside taking care of the school grounds in the 111 degree heat indexes. I'll be lucky to come out of this week alive. Have lemonade ready for me at about 4:00 PM every afternoon! I'll need it!

Just got out of the cooler, had to refill Mudchicken's tap, he drained it completely! That was a hundred gallon tank behind that tap, so if anyone sees a slightly rounder bird walk by, we know what happened.

Got up to 92 yesterday in Madison, was hot enough that the clutch fan in my truck never shut off, sounded like a semi going through town.  The new city pool in town was filled to capacity pretty much all day, and I stayed in the AC as much as possible.

Be in later for a light dinner.

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Joe, thanks for starting the coffee, and making fresh juice and
lemonade.  Yeah, it's going to be another 3H day again:  for at least the next week, here in our "
neck of the woods".    And i've made up some good, cold iced tea.

I've got cold cereal for our breakfast this morning:  Cheerios, Corn Flakes, Raisin Bran, Fruity
Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbbles, Special K all set out.  It's just a litttttle too muggy, sticky, and hot
to be doing a lot of cooking.  Especially when no one feels like eating much in the heat.

Around noon, I'll start making up some nice, cool salads for SUNDAY DINNER.  (And not just
lettuce salads, either.  We'll have some tuna salad, ham salad, watergate salad (also known as
pistachio salad), etc.

Everyone stay safe, and as cool as possible today.

This pizza is good warmed up, too!

Not a bad day on the railroad.  Didn't get as hot as it was supposed to, and it didn't rain when the trainman had to do his work on the ground.  And we had a reasonable number of passengers (although we can always use more...)

Back into the woods tomorrow.  Oh, and the ALCO is back in service (NYC 8223). Now both EMDs are on the Utica train.

We aren't far from the ocean but we still get a fairly high humidity around the 70% and it is dry. we are in the middle of a drought at the moment (we only got enough water to last until 2008). where I live (Brisbane, the capital of Queensland) is in a sub-tropical environment so we have very warm summers and mild winters. it gets down to about 4 or 5C at night and anywhere between 18 and 25 during the day. during summer it is around 20 at night and up to 44 during the day.

and as for the upside down pizza, sounds yum! Dinner [dinner]

James, according to a website I just looked up, 100ºF works out to be 37.8ºC.  Getting just a little toasty.

BTW, as far as the menu is concerned, I'm sure CW would be happy to serve you a pizza upside down! Tongue [:P]

Well, it's cetainlly been a while since, I've been in here. Things are starting to shape up here Big Smile [:D] ?// ?Nice, well I see we are still having our pizza fest in the "new DD & CS. Wow this is the first one since the changes.  So...

CW I think I will take one large extra chesse pizza with a sprite pretty please. Smile [:)].

Tree, sorry I'm getting back to your question a bit late but, yes I do agree with you, the Struckaa Viaduct is a work of art, truely. It also was built in less than a year, back in 1850.

Unfortunitly, I don't think your going to catch any trains over it anytime soon because, Norfolk Southern sold it and the line, to a regional line. I don't know if they are useing it or not now, but to see a train over the Struckaa is very, very, very rare. I wish in that pic I took of the Viaduct that I had caught a train in action going over it, but.......................OH WELL.

Dan, do you have a recipe for "Death by Chocolate" cake?  If so, would you email it to me?  I love
chocolate!!Big Smile [:D]

Would a cake with such a name be safe for a certain feline member known to frequent this diner?

Meanwhile, we got in and around the triple digit area like everyone else, albeit without the humidity. Still, the dry air isn't all it's cracked up to be. One must be really careful about dehydration in the drier climates (the body deals with the heat better because it's cooling itself by evaporating sweat...of course this requires that the waters and salts that compose sweat need to be replenished as quickly as one loses them). Hence, in addition to a chocolate loving kitty, we have a chicken with an IV of gatorade hanging out at the DD&CS.

Well, I think I'll try some of the Hawaiian Pizza. Always been a fan of that.

Hope you all have a great evening!

TTFN!

Everyone is in luck:  I just now took the pizzas out of the oven.  And I forgot to put one on the list:
there is also an extra large goetta pizza, along with the others.

Joe, think I'll take another half gallon of lemonade!!

We just ate in a cool place that we drove to in our cool car (don't laugh, Sarah--I was referring to how well the AC works), after which we went to a cool yard to see a way-cool locomotive:  the CNW heritage unit.

Got up to 98 locally; don't know what the official high was.  Three digits expected tomorrow; I'm under orders to move away from the bicycle.

Still missing.

Quentin,we didn't get quite that "Warm" today;our high was
91 degrees. Like you said, the humidity is a killer, that, along with
the other things they measure, made the "heat index" right at 100!

Joe,you're very right,it is too hot to eat;a much better time is
definitely after the sun goes down!!Smile [:)]
