Good morning and thanks for breakfast. At present, 60 degrees and sunshine in Carolina this morning. Not sure what the projected high is, but no lightning forecast, PTL. I have been up since 0530, and think I will take a short nap, if the girls will give up the bed where they are presently esconced. That may be easier said than done.... Everyone take care

Sprinkly here this morning, with the radar promising more through the day.  Judging by the looks of it, we might hear a rumble of thunder, too.

Just got a new digital video camera.  It has a "fireworks" setting, which suggests to me that it might work for lightning, too.  Need a night storm to find out, though.

Speaking of sprinkles - had to replace the old cell phone last night after I managed to damage the display.  The new one in neat - full keyboard, even.   But I digress.  On the way home I stopped at one of the numerous ice cream stands in the area for my usual "small twist."  At the other window was a fellow and his wife.  As he was being served his order, he asked the shop worker what it would cost for him to just lay there under the dispenser, with his mouth open.  I opined that the sprinkles would probably be extra...  It was funny at the time.

Back to a bearclaw today.  I'll be over in the corner.

I can't believe everyone had storms and rain!  We had no storm and only 1/3 of an inch of rain, which was nice.  So we sent on a very mild rain shower and it evidently got violent when it got out of our earshot.

Randy - glad everything ok.  That is one nice thing about modern doctoring - they don't have to dissect you to figure out what is wrong.

Watching Mr. Driver McGregor's birdseed, corn cob, peanut garden this morning.  Everyone respects the squirrels.  Then the turtledoves.  For all the cooing they do, they are very aggressive.  And caught the Observer chasing another rabbit around - couldn't tell if it was amorous or territorial.  They never smile, so I never know.

Neighborhood woodpecker is giving me a headache.  But trains are running and I can still hear the whistles, so all is nice in the neighborhood.

Tree - homemade ice cream this weekend for the diner?  There's a heart attack waiting to happen!  But since it will be a virtual one, we can pay the docs with virtual money!

Chores await.

Neighborhood woodpecker is giving me a headache.

I was out in the back yard the other day when I heard a racket.  Looked around to find a woodpecker banging on a downspout (metal, of course).  Talk about noisy!

Mookie
Tree - homemade ice cream this weekend for the diner?

I'm all for that.  I'm rather fond of said home-made concoction flavored with fresh peaches...

A bright morning after a night of much rain....and a bit of wind.  Rather warm here too....To be into the 70's today.  Sunshine breaks thru at times and plenty of light bright clouds.

Over  one and three quarters inch of rain accumulated in the rain gauge since Tuesday.

I believe my shrubs grew 2 inches just over night....Must have some of them removed this season as it's too much to take care of in trimming.

Not to even mention how fast the yard is growing now.  But it sure is nice.

With the heavy atmosphere overnight, etc.....the train horns sounded like they were coming in the slightly open bedroom windows during the night.  Seems to be more traffic on the line north of us {by about a mile}, the Frankfort line....during nightime hours compared to during the day.  But that really doesn't bother me.

Some lady was complaining yesterday in our paper {Muncie}, about a train stopped adjacent to the McDonalds restaurant as she saw one of the crew detrain and go into the establishment for some take out goodies, and by what she indicated, that is why the train was stopped there....and being across several crossings....{in town}.

I felt like answering her but didn't...I am sure the train was stopped to allow clearance ahead where it has to pass over CSX main, at a crossover and could not proceed until the clearance was granted.

Of course the RR was there many years before the buildup of the city out on that western end, but that was not anything she would care to hear.

But we hear those type of complaints often here re: the Frankfort line where it enters Muncie from the west.

If they weren't stopped because of the diamond, I think I'd take her side in that argument - kind of callous on the part of the crew.

I recall a while back seeing something either here or in Trains about a sign that said "holdout".  I believe it was explained that it was a stopping point for trains held up from proceeding that wouldn't cause any crossings to be blocked, etc.  If blocked crossings are a significant problem as the result of such delays, perhaps the RR needs to institute such a practice there.

The other option, if the crossing is signalled, would be to move the home signal.

Larry and Mookie:  that homemade ice cream sounds perfect for this weekend!  I'll provide the peaches (they'll be in the fridge, pealed and sliced), and I'll also provide plenty of vanilla for a homemade batch of vanilla ice cream for those who prefer plain vanilla ice cream.  And maybe I'll provide some chocolate w/chocolate chips ice cream.  That will go make some nice desserts for our Pizza Fest Saturday night!

From the storm this morning, we got almost a half inch of rain in the rain guage.  Still nice and cool, and a little breezy outside.

I've made some sloppy joe sandwiches and have them on the warmer bar.  There's also some fries and salad to go with the sandwiches.

What would you all like to have for supper tonight?  Going to make this a you request what you want to eat, and I'll prepare it day.

Allerlei

Randy, it’s good to hear that your scan did not show anything you or the doctor did not want to see. I have had three in the last three years (one more this fall, and then it will longer before the next one), and all satisfied my oncologist (and primary physician). Apaprently, you did not have to drink a barium sulfate suspension before your inwards were examined; I have to, as well as get an injection just before I am zipped in and out of the scanner. I was never told to drink lots of water to get rid of the contrast stuff, just not to be alarmed at the color of the liquid that comes out of my body.

Mookie, have the dogs been silenced–only to have a woodpecker start up?

Larry and Paula, peach ice cream sounds good. It reminds me of the peach ice cream my mother made, using the Sears refrigerator she bought in 1938–and used until in the sixties. That refrigerator had sulfur dioxide refrigerant (I learned this when we had some work done on it in the late forties; no, it did not leak).

I took Ricki's car (guess who drives it the most) for its annual inspection this morning; it passed. Now, I will renew its registration from right here, giving a credit card number for the payment. Years ago, because I had everything in order, complete with the check, when I went to the Division of Motor Vehicles, I was sent to the of a non-existent line and was taken care of immediately. A few years ago, the system was improved so that everybody who went in was given a number and had to wait until a clerk who would took care of the particular matter was available. Now, I sit at home and wait a few days to receive, by mail, the official registration form and the decal to put on the license plate. Isn't the internet wonderful?

If they weren't stopped because of the diamond, I think I'd take her side in that argument - kind of callous on the part of the crew.

Do you think the crew would stop the train for a food stop....if that was the only reason to do so....within the city limits on the west side.....I kind of doubt that.  I hear the New Castle DP calling the shots for that crossover clearance many times.

This happens quite often....simply due to the layout of track and streets and the crossover {to cross CSX main double track}.  There is a side / passing track at the same area just west of McDonald's and almost each day a cut of cars is dropped there and later, they are picked up and assembled to another train for movement.....{I can only guess to be forwarded to a different direction}.  This also causes lots of motorist complaints....

I don't know just what the cure is.  But waiting for the crossover to be cleared {about a half mile ahead}, certainly doesn't have much chance to be changed.  Traffic on CSX is of course everyday at any hour.

Yes, all the street / road crossings are controlled with flashing lights and gates.  When the east bound train entering Muncie from the west side does have to stop and wait, they do so just short of a 4 lane street.  With a mile plus long train, that does block a crossing and sometimes two in so doing.  Streets are layed out in a manner that one can  go on beyond and get around the blocked street.  Of course it is a problem...For everyone, including the crew having to let their train extend out over a crossing and on rare occasion two crossings...{streets}.

afternoon

well matt and I made back from town.Csx is making preparations to replace the switch at the maw siding. We also saw 2 norange bnsfs with an eastbound coal train. As far as crossings go the dispatcher usually tells the crew not to block any crossings if they go to get something.I usually offer if I see they are stopped and are going to be delayed for awhile. However there was a time when csx did a banner test just west of deshler. It blocked every crossing in town(especially with the long stack trains).Cw sloppy joes are great for supper tonight.Larry I'll take my turn at churning the ice cream saturday just let me know.Time to get cleaned up.

Joe, you're the only one to respond to my request for tonight.  So, we'll repeat the lunch menu:  Sloppy joes sandwiches w/fries and garden salad.  And I've got two or three fixed for you to take to work tonight, too.  They're in the fridge, as usual, waiting for you to pick up.

The sun has come out, and we have a current (and high) of 74 degrees for today.  But, we have more rain headed our way for tomorrow.  Some from the southwest, and I think there's also some rain headed this way from Iowa way.

You all enjoy your supper, have a good evening, and take care.

CW - I am with Joe - sloppys sound good to me.

Don'cha just love the way I eased Tree into making ice cream.  I will distract him again sometime and maybe we will get some of his good BBQ.

Johnny - the dogs have been a little quieter.  I am not sure why, but definitely enjoying the lull in the "music".  I sure hope that woodpecker knows how to holler "Timber!" cuz the way he is pounding, he should have either a tree or a pole pretty well pecked thru.  He went all morning and I heard him right up until I went to the store at 2:30 pm.  Must be lying down, cuz it is quiet now.

And those wonderful, soft turtledoves; they coo and sound like they could put a baby to sleep with their song.  But when I watch them, they will attack any bird but the "squirrel bird" and seem to tell the other birds eating seed in the area that they will pinch their teeny little heads off if they get close!

Best tell the Driver not to be late with the food in the mornings.  Pretty rough crowd out there!

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Hope you all had a peaceful, restful night.  We have a temp this morning of 60 degrees, going to have some sunshine today, with a chance of showers, and a high of 83.  Should be a nice day, as the chance for more rain is 30%.

Cannonball, glad you managed to drop in last night!  How are you and Shirl doing?

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws and an assortment of doughnuts, danishes and muffins are on this morning's menu.

Mookie, I've got your coffee mug ready; how about we head out to the garden with our coffee and a small assortment of bagels, doughnuts and danishes and a muffin or two?

Everyone enjoy the food, and your morning, and take care.

Tom - sending drier weather your way next week.  Our weekend looks perfect.  Next week will warm up to around 80.  That is getting to the top of my comfort level.

Woodpecker seems to be sleeping in this morning.  Wonder what Johnny did to dogs and how he did it from that distance....Confused  They are all quiet this morning, altho one had a fit at 3 am.  Maybe the local cat stepped on him.

Lots of sunshine for us this morning....Possible rain and maybe storms passing by later in the day.  Warm temps.

Trivia news:

Brevini Wind.....The manufacturing firm in the process locating close to Muncie....{at 332 and I-69}, has bumped up their schedule to get their plant up and producing wind turbine gearsets.

The article in the morning paper also stated the railroad spur is under construction that will be connecting the plant to the NS Frankfort line slightly west of Muncie.  That should be roughly 1 1/2 to 2 miles in length.  That's something new.....a railroad connection to a new plant.

Product to be produced will be gearsets for the wind turbines and each to weigh about 50 tons, hence RR connection needed.  {Must get out there and check on any new RR construction}....Just a few miles from us.

Should employ around 450 people when in full production.  Understand new demand has caused them to fast forward the schedule about 6 months.  All seems to be good news for Muncie / Yorktown area.  And of course we like to hear of any increase use of RR's.

Quentin, that does sound like good news.

Mookie, yeah, that was fun this morning:  we'll have to do it again!!  Maybe Monday?

Instead of our regular Friday Fish Fry, today we'll have Friday Fish Grill.  I've got the grills going, and have the regular lineup of fish on the grill.  Of course,I do have the fryers going with the fries, hush puppies, and breaded fried mushrooms.

Also have the 'baked beans' and  corn on the cob on the grill.

Regular dessert menu includes all of everyone's favorite cakes, cobblers and pies.

You all enjoy, and have a great afternoon.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks so much for fixing breakfast this morning!

Woke up at a little past 6:30, and just now getting on the computer.  We got plenty of rain last night and very early this morning, from the looks of our Saturday paper.  It was completely waterlogged:  feels like a concrete block, it's so soaked with water!

It looks like we'll be getting some more rain, but hopefully, the storms are out of our area.  Temp this morning is in the upper 50s, looking for a high of the mid 70s, then tomorrow, our high is only supposed to be about 72, 73 degrees, if I remember the forecast correctly, with no rain for the next week.

I hope everyone has a good morning, and a good afternoon.  I'll be looking for everyone back in here this evening for our pizza fest.  Take care, you all!

 Good Morning Everyone!

Cloudy and muggy here in Alamo City.  We have a 60% chance of storms later today.  Hope to get something out of this because we are headed for Stage II water restrictions here.

I traveled to the Albany NY area with some friends last weekend.  Had a great time checking out all the rail activity in that area.  Even got to see the Circus train!

Hope y'all have a great Saturday!

Hi All! How are you All! I've missed being here. Mom is still hurting a bit but, she seems to bee doing. Better. There is some bad news though. Her surgery recovery time may not permit here from going on vacation. I really really really really, hope that doesn't happen I know tht mom's healt comes before any vacation. So I will pray that she will recover quickley. Wow! we got a lot of rain here in Indiana too! It rained harder that I'd ever seen it rain! A constant lightning storm going on. Our dog's kennal this morning was in a small lake. Then Rex moved and it all rushed out. But, we faired through the storm. B-fas is good this morning!

Saturday morning here is overcast and moderately warm.  Overnight weather front that passed thru Indiana didn't harm us here and left just .65" of rain in my gauge.  Clearing will occur later yet today.  To be 70 at noon.  We have some leaves laying in the yard as to indicate some wind accomplied the weather front as it passed during the night.

Now it appears sunshine will be moving in and perhaps last thru Wednesday.

 Morning all!

Well, as of last night I R a colledge graduit Big Smile The ceremony was ok, the best part of it was the professor reading the Arts degrees, he had so much tassel that his hat wouldnt stay on! So instead of fixing it, he would just tilt his head farther and farther. He finally got a bobby pin and used that but it didnt help even though in the lull between rows he made a comment that Bobby Pin would be graduating later in the evening.

Today is a beautiful day, I have already been fishing. I drove about 45 miles down to Antelope flats on the Flaming Gorge right on the Utah/Wyoming state line. I caught 6, but didnt keep any. This time of year the big rainbows come ashore to spawn. I dont tihnk I caught one under 18 inches. I left though because most people aren't as die hard and dont go until later in the morning, then have no respect for people already there I had some guy walk over and start fishing my spot right next to me and he started complaining because I was sidecasting with my fly rod and I was barely missing him. I told he a few times that that is how I fish, and if he didn't want to get hooked he should go elsewhere. He moved and started fishing off the dock, but the started complaining when I was catching the fish and he wasnt. Some people just aren't happy unless they are complainig I guess.... I decided to leave when a family showed up and their dog went crashing into the water and the kids started throwing rocks.

Congrats RJ!  Are you going on to grad school?  What is your degree?

You and the Driver would fish well together.  He can go to any lake with no one around to bother him and within 30 min, he will have a crowd around him and people passing by wanting to visit.  He loves to fish all by himself and I don't think he has ever gotten to do that.  Even in Wyoming!  Cowboy

Our Saturday Night Pizza Fest is now on the warmer bar.  Three of every kind, ranging from Anchovie to Supreme pizza and Italian sausage calzones, are on the warmer bar.

I have the chocolate chip ice cream ready for dessert.  Larry, do you have the peach ice cream ready yet?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Well,  the Plimico race is over:  Rachel Alexandra won, with Mine That Bird coming in second.  Interesting race to watch, that's for sure.  And no, I didn't have any money on the race.

Everyone enjoy your pizzas and ice cream, and you all have a good evening and take care.
