Thanks, Tom, for opening the new location. I was intending to do the same thing a little later on this evening. But, you beat me to the punch!
It's been a mild afternoon, but looks like we are about to get some storms coming through in about 10, 15 minutes, give or take.
There's still plenty of sirloin roast, taters & carrots, along with beef stew and cornbread, that have been replenished on the warmer bar.
Everyone have a good evening, and if you're in the path of these storms, take care, please!!
rain has moved out of Nw ohio for now.Cw thanks for the stew and cornbread.Time to get things for work. Its friday.
stay safe

Hey, nice decor! Is that flatware from the 20th Century Limited? Too Cool!
We've got some rain arriving momentarily, but I don't think it's packing a punch.
Stew and cornbread does hit the spot tonight.

Yeah, Larry; that is from the "20th Century Limited", but I think
in the move, the stuff from the " George Washington" got misplaced.
No Real rain here just now, lot of drizzle, but higher winds;
some of the larger inflatable balloons for the Derby Parade
got "scratched"!
Stew does sound good since it has turned a bit cooler. (hold the cornbread)

Remembering the named trains, of all of them on the east coast have been mentioned except PRR. Does anyone recall ~~ The Jeffersonian ~~ The Sunshine Special~~The Floridian~~The Sprit of St. Louis ??? They all came through Dayton Ohio from 1939? to 1946. Quentin , would that jog your memory, you being from Pennsy??? They probably originated in St. Louis. At the time I lived 2blks. from the main line. ( Ahhhhhh those were the days ) wonder where I heard that before) .
Respectfully, Cannonball

Well, there maybe a case or two where that still happens;
Seems most come in by "Fancy truck & trailer"; and
a few instances via "Cargo Air".
Did the Hammock get moved this time? I'm sure one
person will be looking for it right off the bat.
(may be looking for the bat also)
Good Friday morning everyone, and Happy May Day! Does anyone have a May pole to set up? If so, maybe we can 'dance around the May Pole.
Coffee, juices and hot water for tea are ready. And our Friday Doughnuts, Danishes, Bagels, bear claw and muffins are on the warmer bar. (Got them direct from the doughnut shop this morning, as soon as they took them out of the oven, so thought we'd keep them warm.)
Mookie, I did manage to get your coffee mug over here to the new location, along with everyone else's!! It's clean, and on the counter, right by the coffee pot, so we can pour your coffee, as soon as we see you coming in the door.
Our current temp is 64 degrees F. this morning, with rain in the area. On local TV, they're broadcasting from Churchill Downs, and it is on the waterlogged side this morning. Sure hope those fillies running today have good traction on their hooves
Everyone enjoy breakfast, and have a very good morning.

Oh yes....The "Floridian", because of it's last iteration coming down thru Indiana. And of course, particularly the "Spirit of St. Louis"....comes to mind.
Good morning, or what's left of it. 71 and sunny in Carolina, with the weather boffins calling for lightning later today and tonight. Sorry for the name change. I never even realized it until Paula brought it to my attention last night. Still, it has a nice ring to it, but if anyone is offended, please accept my apology. Everybody have a nice day and a great weekend.
I am waiting to see what we "May Issue"....
MookieI am waiting to see what we "May Issue"....
Well, good morning, Mookie! For starters, we 'May Issue' this lunch and supper menu:
Fish, Fish, and more Fish!! Plus, we have all the regular side dishes, both hot and cold, to have with the fish (cod, perch, salmon patties, shrimp, etc.)
Already been out to the grocery this morning. Tried to get into the bank, so I could get Mutt's and my bus tickets for the month; but, looked at the loooonng line, and turned around and walked straight back out!! I'll try again in the morning, or wait until Monday morning.
I almost forgot: there is a very nice looking full sheet cake, of chocolate cake, decorated in honor of Amtrack's 38th birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMTRACK!
spokyoneHappy May Day!
....Thinking back....May Day was always a happy time {day}, in school...we did kind of "celebrate" it....and it signalled Summer break was right around the corner.
Item: Yes, and we had a "May Pole" on our Community play ground in our little town....It had chains on it with "grab bars" to swing around on it. The grab bars / chains rotated freely by design at it's top.....Now....I believe it is still there....60 plus years later...! And I remember the tingling sounds it made as the wind blew the chains / bars against the pole when not in use.
ModelcarOh yes....The "Floridian", because of it's last iteration coming down thru Indiana.
You folks are thinking of the Floridan, which was a winter season IC/CG/ACL/FEC train. As well as I can tell, the Floridian was an Amtrak creation which, of course, began life on the Florida Arrow/South Wind route--and then moved around as this or that stretch of track became too slow or even impassable. The Floridan ran pretty much on the schedule that the Seminole used at the end of its life. The Florida Arrow and the Dixie Limited ran on comparable schedules.
The Sunshine Special was a MoP/T&P train from St. Louis to the Southwest; I think it did have through cars (oh, what was the name of the PRR train that carried through cars from the East to St. Louis?) from the East before it was entirely replaced by the Texas Eagles.
There are many names that I remember from that era, though I rode on precious few of those trains. My first name train was the Southern's Skyland Special (1938), the next two were SAL's New York-Florida Limited and Cotton Blossom (1941).
The road to to success is always under construction. _____________________________________________________________________________ When the going gets tough, the tough use duct tape.

The Amtrak "Floridian" train I refer to Johnny would be the one that ran between Chicago and Florida. Was it removed back in......?? 1979...?

Everything (fish and side dishes) have been replenished, and now on the warmer bar for tonight. Cold dishes, like cole slaw, salads are in the cooler.
So far, we've not gotten any more rain since very, very early this morning. Maybe we won't get any more tonight? Everyone enjoy supper, and have a great evening. And I see we still have three quarters of that sheet cake chocolate cake left.

DeggestyI was talking with the flagman, and he commented that the track on the curves had not been elevated for passenger trains, so we were unable to make much speed
I would think the "elevated outer rail" situation, might be an issue with Amtrak and speed at many places around the country in this age of mostly freight train ueage.
