Good Wednesday morning, everyone. All of you and your birthday wishes helped to make my birthday yesterday, the best one so far! I want to thank each and everyone of you!! I know you all probably get perturbed at times, that all I post about most of the time is food. That's my specialty, and I do read a few of the other threads around here, and pick up a little bit of railroad knowledge. I just don't comment on certain things very often, so I don't show how ignorant my railroad knowledge is. So, I want to also thank each and everyone of you for putting up with me!! Each and everyone of you mean a lot to me, and I consider you all part of my extended family. I love you all, and thank my lucky stars I have such good friends.
We are now getting light rain at 6:13 a.m. EDT, and it is supposed to rain most of the day. The rain is also supposed to be off and on moderate to heavy with a possiblity of some thunder boomers.
Coffee is brewing, fresh juices are made and cooling in the fridge, and hot water is heating for hot tea.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties, pork, of course), scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, and chunks of cantaloupe, watermelon and pineapple.

A cool {relatively, overcast morning....Possible rain sometime today. Radar showed it an hour ago right on our edge, but still no rain locally.
Have noted our Frankfort {NS}, line heading northwest out of Muncie seems to be a bit more active lately....Just wondering if some traffic may have been shifted from another route to this line.....? Economy, has potential of getting better, but we shouldn't be seeing any results of that activity yet....In my opinion. Just wondering.
Okay, looks like things have been a bit slow in here this morning. I even went back to bed to get some 'extra' sleep. Guess that's what happens when you have rain in your area. Our temp is only 61 degrees, and we are back to light rain showers. We have had a couple of heavy showers this morning, but they should be gone in an hour or two, then just scattered showers for the rest of the day. Then, more thunder showers tomorrow.
Here's our Mexican Fiesta menu for today:
1. Burritos (beef, beef & bean, and beef enchilada style); 2. Tacos (soft shell and hard shell); 3. chimichangas; 4. enchiladas; 5. Spanish rice; 6. Tostadas; and, for appetizers, tortilla chips w/you choice of picante sauce, salsa, chili con queso, or cheese con queso
And, believe it or not, there's still plenty of the chocolate birthday cake left, along with some hot fudge cake w/whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles and cherries.

There was a time when I thought that I could trace my ancestry back to Pocahontas, but I learned the details last fall: one of my ancestors, named Bolling, (I do not remember how many "great-great"'s) married the granddaughter of John Rolfe and Pocahontas; their descendants are called "red Bollings". However, I am descended from that ancestor's second wife, so I am a "white Bolling."

Before my father died about nine years ago; he and some of the
family were trying to trace our Family History. It was found that
some of my ancestors served as tax collectors under"William the Conqueror";
a fact, until now, I've tried to keep hidden.

My aunts did a very thorough geneology of my mother's side of the family - even sharing information with another such researcher from a different branch of the tree. Our Christmas gift one year was a bound copy of their work, followed by an addendum a couple of years later.
It is rather fascinating. Since that side of the family has stayed pretty much centered in one area, it's not terribly unusual to encounter a distant relative, much to the amusement of all involved.
My daughter followed my father's side back to the Alsace-Lorraine region of Europe. It appears they first generation may have travelled the Erie Canal enroute to Detroit, where they may have joined other family members, as the family name appears among the founders of Detroit.

Then, my immigrant Degge ancestor (my five and six great-grandfather) settled on Virginia's Northern Neck (the area between the Potomac and Rappahanock Rivers), and it was said that it was difficult to throw a stick without hitting a relative.

Re: Finding the black sheep in your family tree. The Aussies (so I've read) have embraced that - inasmuch as many of them are the decendants of criminals who were sent to Australia when it served as a penal colony.
Johnny - My mother relates a similar story about not being able to throw a stick with regards to where she was born. Apparently, in the course of some conversation or another, a stranger commented, "is there anyone around here you aren't related to?"
I suspect that, back in the days when travel wasn't something taken lightly, many small towns held similar tales.

Genealogy is a very interesting subject. I should have a notebook around here, from one of my mother's half brothers, who did a genealogy on their side of the family. Going to have to try to find it. I think it's up stairs in the back room, in the filing cabinet.
It's still raining here, still a light rain. When I took the dog out earlier, I looked at the rain guage. It showed almost an inch and a half for today. It had almost a half inch last night. Everyone have a good evening, and take care.
Back in the late '60s, CBS had a little 60 second news blurb called THIS DAY IN HISTORY. It ran in the short news headline program that ran at 855 PM and was known as NEWSBREAK. One night, they mentioned an 1896 murder that happened locally, but which would have been better left unsaid, due to it's inflammatory content. My mother and I both wondered why they took air time on a national news program to dredge up such an item. My father proceeded to tell what happened and why it did. My mother asked him how he knew so much about it, and he replied " Cause they had Uncle Charlie in jail for doing it!" The family made the CBS news, and now you know the rest of the story.
