Mookie, if you left any, I'll take some (I shouldn't, since I gained three or four pounds while we were traveling)    See - Johnny - I had your best interest at heart and saved you from gaining any more weight.....Approve

Joe - company here; dropped off some items for reading and then disappeared.  Something about an Arby's in Omaha with a young man.  We are holding a small meeting trackside at 9:30 am tomorrow morning.  Hope the BNSF shows up for said meeting.

Is there any of that chocolate cake left?? Or did Mookie take it all? Oh well, it really doesn't matter much here. I am baking Molasses/sugar cookies tonight, they are soft and chewy, and loaded with flavor. I think I'll leave a couple dozen here in the diner. A couple of them would go well with a glass of milk and I know they will be gone in a flash!

Yes, she did. Did you see what she said to me? I think I added most of my weight on the Canadian (four nights and three and a third days with ten meals in all) There are no prices on the menu in the First Class Diner (the cost of the meals is included in your space charge), and, with a different menu everyday, you can indulge in scrumptious meals that can add avoirdupois (no, wait, we are in Canada; kilos) without your being aware of what you are doing. Even with varying our diet with stops at McDonalds and such, we overate. We also had good meals at most of the hotels where we stayed, particularly at the former CP & CN hotels. One of our best meals was in Chicago, where Carl and Pat Shaver took us out. I'll try some of your cookies, despite what Mookie said.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  We've got light rain this morning,at 6:47 a.m.  Looks like the horses will have to be 'mudders' today.  Cannonball, hope you shoulder is improving daily!

Coffee, juices, hot cider, hot chocolate, and hot water for tea are ready.

To help everyone celebrate the Kentucky  Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown, here's what is on the warmer bar this morning:

Country fried ham with red-eye gravy, hash browns, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, bacon, sausage (links & patties), pancakes (regular, blueberry, cinnamon), country fried steak, fresh cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple slices.

Everyone have a very good morning, stay as dry as possible, if you're getting rain today, and see you all later on.

Carl and Pat stopped at my Arby's yesterday evening for dinner. I have to imagine that eating at the best Arby's in the Omaha Metro was the highlight of their trip! Cool  I had a very nice time talking to them, although I had to at least pretend to be working too. It'll be nice to talk again this morning at Camp Mookie where there won't be any managers wondering why I'm talking and not working.

School is just about done. Monday and Tuesday are full days and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are exam days. Baccalaureate Mass is on Friday the 15th and graduation is on Monday the 18th. Then my high school career will be offically over. Kind of sad in one way, but really exciting in another way.

The Sunshine Special was a MoP/T&P train from St. Louis to the Southwest; I think it did have through cars (oh, what was the name of the PRR train that carried through cars from the East to St. Louis?) from the East before it was entirely replaced by the Texas Eagles.

That would have been the PRR's Penn-Texas which ran with through cars for both MoPac and Frisco/KATY.

Back in the mid 50's my Grandmother made the trip from Newark NJ to San Antonio (my Dad was a pilot stationed at Kelly AFB here).  She was in the through sleeper that connected to the Texas Special of the Frisco/KATY.

Willy, congratulations!  Thumbs Up

Seems like a long time ago, since my high school graduation:  Our last day, after final exams, was something like May 16 or 17, and graduation was May 29, 1971.  Definitely another lifetime ago!

Best of luck to you, Willy!  Maybe one day, we'll see you on one of our local TV stations as the new chief meteorologist.

Rain seems to have ended here, at least for now.  Wonder if we'll have rain/storms by the end of the day, around 5:30, when it will be the Run for the Roses.

Yes, Willy, congratulations on reaching this point in your life. As I look back over the fifty-five years since I finished high school, I hope you do even better than I did.

How many of you watched that little horse race in Louisville this afternoon? It certainly had an exciting finish.

Yes Johnny, that was an exciting and very surprising finish to the race!  While I didn't exactly have a horse picked, I was kind of rooting for the ex teacher/principal, and his horse that he owned and trained himself.  That 75 year young gentlemen certainly had something going for him and the horse, to have gotten that far!

Here's our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Anchovie;  2.  Canadian bacon;  3.  Italian sausage calzones;  4.  Pepperoni/mushroom;  5.  Cheese w/extra cheese available;  6.  Supreme

And for dessert, chocolate cake (made another couple of chocolate cakes this afternoon) and Mixed Fruit Jell-O.

Locomutt,

You graduated the spring before the first classes started at my high school. My school has been having all kinds of 40th anniversary celebrations throughout the course of this school year.

We had a very nice day in Lincoln, with the exception of a snafu at Ruby Tuesday. Not sure why they would put garlic mayonnaise on a bacon barbeque burger, but they did. I know I don't have to worry about that kind of stuff here in the diner.

The trains were running pretty frequently. We paced a KCS "Southern Belle" most of the way back to Omaha. My opinion is that it's a pretty classy paint scheme, even if it does look a little like it belongs in a circus.

Mookie has "decamped" and is pooed out.  But we had a nice visit as usual and always look forward to getting together with friends.

Willy - that must be the one that comes up on the far east tracks from the south and by-passes the yard altogether.  We get one over there every so often and it seems that it is always when I am looking the other way.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  We're getting light rain here in Louisville this morning.  High today will be in the low 60s:  61or 62 for a high today, with off and on rain showers (some could be heavy), so they're suggesting for everyone to look out for localized ponding of water.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.  Mookie, your coffee mug is on the front counter, right next to the coffee pot.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, muffins, cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls.

Tom, you're not that far ahead of me, graduating from high school.  Actually, if my first grade teacher hadn't held me back a year, I would have graduated in 1970.  But that is another story for another time.  Suffice it to say, that I was a good student, and being held back had nothing to do with bad grades.

Now to get back into the kitchen, and start working on Sunday Dinner.

Hmm, The "Ky. Derby" must be over......All the "Rich People"

that have private planes are flying over the house this morning.

I guess I should be grateful that Trains don't fly.

(Okay, no gripes; excluding Tornadoes, Hurricanes, etc.)

Have not/Did not get the chance to get out yesterday

to try and find any Derby Trains; have fouund out that

the departure for both CSX and NS "Derby Trains" will

be slightly delayed today......seems they can't find crews

for said trains?!

Beautiful day here in the northwoods of New York.  I spent today (and yesterday) in class getting recertified so  I can keep running on the railroad.

On top of that, something must have kicked in Friday - I've got allergies I didn't know I had.  Sheesh!
