Our morning is gray and overcast.....no sunshine to report today....All though it is raining some now and did so overnight, it's to be dry later on today.  Temp now is 60 degrees.

The reports out of the Dakota's isn't very promising with high water, snow and reports of below freezing some places and comments sand bags do not work well when frozen....What a dilemma.  Sounds like potential flooding both in south and north Dakotas.  And this late in the season.....

Edit:  Just 15 min. later we now have 53 for a temp...A fast drop....but a bit lighter too....

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Yeah, Ray, I did sleep in a little bit this morning!  Sure felt nice!!  and thank you, Ray, for breakfast this morning:  that is such a nice treat, someone else fixing breakfast.

We have a current temp of about 50, 51 degrees, with light rain.  If we got any heavy rain, as they expected last night, I never heard it.  Think I was sound asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow!!

We may have to look into getting a flat panel monitor for our computer.  Our monitor is a 15 in. screen.  And yeah, it is heavy.

I'm taking requests for the lunch and or supper today.  Let me know what you all would like to have, and I'll get to work on it.

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm (if it's cold in your area), and take care, all of you!

Good morning folks! It looks like CW may be sleeping in this morning, so I will take charge of serving breakfast. The coffee is about done brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. There is pan of cinnamon rolls here, fresh out of the oven. There is also an assortment of donuts, rolls and bear claws from my neighborhood Sunshine bakery. Chef

It's a cold morning here in my hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 26 degrees. At least it isn't snowing here. I hope the rest of you out there all have a good day. Stay warm, stay safe!

Johnny.....Have you tried those plastic pads {avail. in different shapes}, one can put under heavey items and slide them across the floor....They really do work

Quentin, now that you mention your pads, I remember that we have some small pads that we bought several years ago to help in moving a heavy bookcase (it was not so heavy once the books were taken out). Had I remembered them, I would have had to spend time looking for them.

Paula, I am glad that your doctor determined that it was not that your knee replacement needed to be reworked (or replaced), but that something else was giving you trouble. Speaking of joints, about forty years ago, a gentleman in his seventies--my goodness, I am getting to his age!--told me that if you eat partially parched peanuts, the oil will lubricate your joints.

Several years ago we were doing some renovation around here and Jean and I moved a piano all the length of the living room.  I fastened a pair of the slippery plastic pads on a piece of 2 by 4 and slid one under each side of said piano an we were able to slide it across the carpet without much trouble.

Yeah, flat pannel monitors are great! I have a 17" flat pannel monitor from Dell on my desk, and when I first got it I was amazed at how light it is and how much less room it takes up on my desk.

And flat panel televisons are easier to handle. We had a large TV on top of a four foot high cabinet in our living room which was brought in by two men when we bought it. When it died, I was not able to lift it off, so I rigged up a slideway with 2x4's to let it down to the floor. (I worked it to the front door, put it on a cart, moved it out to the street--and it was soon gone.) The new set, with a larger screen, is much lighter, and I was able to pick it up all by myself and set it on top the cabinet. I still use a monitor with a cathode ray tube, but Ricki has gone through one flat panel and is on her second.

It was pleasant out this morning, but the wind came up this afternoon to prepare us for the next snow.

Someone at one of our local Culver's restaurants called me at roughly 4:30 this afternoon while I was taking a nap, and I did not hear my phone ring, but I have Caller I.D. I had filled out an application for employment with Culver's online within the last couple weeks. I have the day off tomorrow from my job at Wendy's, so I will run down there after the rush hour is over and see if I can talk to these folks.

I had interviewed with the same Culver's location early last summer, and they had expressed an interest in hiring me, but they would have had me working at their Empire Mall store, which would have posed a problem with transportation. I choose not to own and drive a car not only because of the expenses involved, but I also have what I feel is a pretty good medical reason not to ever place myself behind the wheel of a car. I applied for a position with Culver's with the hope that if they hire me, they would give me a good number of hours to work per week. I told them in my app that I am available for at least 30 hours per week. Right now I am trying to survive on 15 or less with my position at Wendy's.

We are getting light rain here in Sioux Falls right now, and this is nothing compared to the onslought of snow that the northern Black Hills have been hit with. The Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern has been totally shut down because of the snow. I have a friend who lives in the Spearfish area, and I should send him an e-mail and ask him how much snow his area has gotten in the last 24 hours.

Q - isn't a flat monitor great?  I was getting a hernia trying to lift our old monitor around.  This one is so much better!

Yes....J, it make so much more room on that part of the desk.  But when I got it all connected and tried it, it kept telling me I wasn't connected to the internet, and that threw me for a while until I finally realized I had to reset the cable modem since I had power and cables disconnected, etc...But right now, everything's fine....Sure is nice and bright.

Well, I am finally back home from the doctor's office.  I went because I've been experiencing sharp pain the the right knee.  He took x-rays, and nothing wrong with the knee.  The problem:  my right arch has gone completely flat.  So, now I have a prescription for an arch/ankle support to go in my shoes.  Guess I'll go to the medical supply store tomorrow, and get that taken care of.  Going to try that, and if it doesn't help any, I'm to call the doctor, and make an appointment to come back in.  He did say that this same thing has happened to a few people before, and since it wasn't taken care of quickly enough, they had to have another knee replacement lonnnng before normal time for one.

There's more vegetable soup, and roast beef sandwiches for supper tonight.

Those of you getting snow, stay warm and take care.

And to those who aren't getting snow and cold temps, also take care and keep safe.

What a day with this computer.....Turned it on to check new posts this mornng and bingo....No power to monitor.  So after doing checks decided it was the monitor itself....Not the picture tube as it has been bright just like it was when new.  So the light at the switch wasn't lit eitther so what ever kjnd of power supply is in a monitor evidently has failed.  To be double sure I ran a power cord to it {different than it's normal supply from the surge protector....and it still wouldn't power up.

So off to find a new monitor and after checking several places we came home with a Samsung 19" flat monitor...{from Staples}, and at a good price too.....So just within the past hour....after finally resetting the cable modem......I'm back in business.  Took me a while to find out why I wasn't connected to the internet and happened to note all the little lights weren't shining on the modem and I happend to remember I probably had to reset the power to it and bingo, we're back in business.

I'm hearing all of the bad weather at so many places out there.....Sunshine here and it's still 70 degrees for temp.  But there is a bit of a weather system working our way and sometime this evening we'll have it going by here and giving us some rain.   It's been a little windy all day but nothing serious.

Boy this flat monitor sure takes up less space on the desk here....It replaces a CRT 17" monitor.

Hope the stormy stuff doesn't get any or our people in trouble out there.....

I heard on the radio this morning that some U.P. cars were blown off the rails somewhere in the state of Iowa last night. Does anyone know any of the details?

Ray, that was in Modale, Iowa (near Missouri Valley). 54 empty grain cars were blown off the tracks by an EF-2 tornado.

Some of my teachers and classmates got enough hail last night to shovel off their driveways. Next up, maybe some snow on Friday? Gotta love Nebraska.

Snow and rain went well north of Denver, we hardly got damp. (weather Liars are torturing/ antagonizing us.)

Union Pacific's main line between Denver and Cheyenne (Greeley Sub)  is currently shut down account a range fire at Fort Lupton, 30 miles north of Denver) is heading west towards the railroad. Supposebly the smoke is very thick. (Trucks are getting blown over up there as well, but this is to be expected)

Maybe we'll get some rain or snow this weekend. (We are way behind on our annual average moisture levels.)

Mornin all!!

Just stopping in for a minute (maybe a cup of hot tea?).

Had temps in the 60s over the weekend and some of last week. Then Sunday night through about 5 this morning nothing but snow!!!! The storm pretty much shut the state down. I talked to a friend over in Casper last night and he said that they had 14 inches! Look out in the east.... its coming for you next!!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Evidently had some kind of small tornado east of Lincoln.  Blew apart a couple of houses.  Now looks like cold weather will be here for awhile.  Blah.  I am ready to be done with anything below 60.  Had south window open yesterday and now shut and locked tight.

Sioux Falls has gotten 9/10ths of an inch of rain since Sunday. Last night I-90 was shut down between Chamberlain, South Dakota and the Black Hills. And the Northern Black Hills have been hit hard with anywhere between 15 and 25 inches of snow.

C-C-C-C-Cold!

Nine degrees at the house this morning.   Nine!  Hopefully the bulbs that have already poked their way out of the soil will survive.  Lotsa tulips!

Something looming to the west on the weather radar - we'll see if anything happens here.

Meanwhile, I'll just snag a bearclaw and my tea and settle in the corner with an old copy of Trains...

Well, the storms in the western half of the state never made it this far east during the night- we maybe got a sprinkle.  But, they're promising that we'll get our share today.  Keeping one eye out the window here...

Paula, I hope your appointment with your knee doctor goes well for you today. From my own experience, it's no fun having to deal with any kind of pain in the knees. Please keep us advised as to how you are doing. Sarah called me Sunday night and I told her that my sister Carol had had her right knee redone, and the surgeons somehow managed to break her shin bone! That wasn't supposed to happen and my sister is now wearing some kind of "air boot" because they can't put a cast on it.

35 degrees here in Sioux Falls and possibly more rain on the way. Right after I made my last post last night we had quite a lot of lightning in this area, so I shut down my computer as a precaution and went to bed.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Nice and cool, with temps in the 50 to 55 range, depending on the area you live in.  Right around us, I believe the current temp is 55.  Supposed to get up to 75, 76 degrees today.

I hope that everyone out in the midwest is all right this morning, after the snow and storms came through your areas last night.  Our rain is not supposed to come in until later tonight, and we do have the possibility of some storms overnight thru tomorrow morning sometime.  Everyone, please stay safe and sound!

I have a doctor's appointment today, going back to the orthopedic surgeon.  Been having a little of shooting pain in the right knee (the one I had the total knee replacement on a year and a half ago).   I'll do Tuesday Produce until someone else can take over for me this morning, so I can come back home and start getting ready to go to the doctor.

So, Mookie and everyone else,  so you all won't have to go without lunch, I've put a pot of vegetable soup on, and there's plenty of roast beef left, so you all can make yourselves roast beef sandwiches.

Everyone take care, have a good day, and keep yourselves safe today!!

Brian and points east and north - duck!

Tornado warning just east of us and headed those directions....but at least our 50 mph winds died!  Thumbs Up

EDIT:  The local weather guesser just reported that a home was destroyed in Missouri Valley by a tornado.

Also, the National Weather Service reported that in Modale, Iowa (same county as Missouri Valley) 54 empty grain cars were blown off the railroad tracks by strong winds from a thunderstorm or by a tornado. Rough night for Nebraska and Iowa.

Des Moines is getting it right now.  Our weather radio is ready and waiting.  The line that was headed for us during lunch today fizzled out before it got here- just gave us a light shower.

It stopped snowing some time this afternoon, so I will not sound like a broken record. Even with the air temperature about the freezing point, much of the snow on the sidewalks, as well as in the streets, melted. I do expect interesting things when I go out tomorrow morning; I WILL be careful. I was glad that I did not have to go to work this morning--I do not miss chipping ice off the windshield or driving in snow.

We expect to get all of our windows replaced this Thursday (single strength single pane going out; double strength double pane coming in). Then, come real spring, I intend painting the exterior of the house.
