Currently we have 23 degrees to 29 degrees, depending on your location around here. Not sure how much snow we ended up getting this morning. It has quit snowing, and Walt and Sarah are out shoveling the sidewalks again, along with taking care of the pine limbs and branches (sawing them up) in the front yard. Walt said the damage to the pine tree is much worse than it was back in 1994. Yeah, Sarah got home from the firehouse around 11:15.
I've got some vegetable beef soup on the warmer bar, along with some bean & ham soup, cornbread; also made some sloppy joes, and there's a little bit roast, taters & carrots left form Sunday.
Guess I'll go bundle up, and see if I can give the other two here some help outside. Everyone take care, stay as warm and dry as possible, and see you all later.
Present. Cold. No snow and what we did get was hardly worth shoveling. Sun shining. I am chilled and miserable. House warm. It's me....

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
.....Yes, on the conditions in Louisville Paula. It's been a pretty massive storm over a wide area and is just now clearing our {Indiana}, border working to clear from west to east in our state.
To add what we had yesterday {Tuesday}, I am not sure how much we added overnight, but it's significant...Much...! I'm guessing 6" or so. In our addition the snow plow just went through but the driveway is loaded with a full cover rather significiant.
Should let up with the snow about noon and they say we might even see some sunshine later today. No ice here but southern Indiana sure as had it. Power outages in southern Indiana too.
Temps in the low 20's right now. Stay tuned......
Edit: 12:30 pm....Believe snow fall figure I used above should be revised to at least....7 to 8" {At least}.

Good Morning all from a very cold Central Valley in California this AM it is 32 degrees. Had to cover my outside cactus last night to protect them from the cold. I will remove the plastic before work as the temp is supposed to climb to 65 today. It is not easy covering cactus they have a tendency to bite when you cover them and uncover them. Tax season is here and I suddenly find myself with less and less time for watching trains. Did manage to get over to the newly restored former SP depot to see the southbound Coast Starlight go through on its detour heading for Tehachapi. That is due to work windows taking place on the trains regular coast line routing. Managed to ride it the last time it detoured over that route.

Brian checking in with the Iowa report- we barely got dusted from this storm, now it's just plain cold. Negative 7 on the PC screen this morning. We're promised a "heat wave" for Saturday as well, if you call a high of 30 that anyway.

I got out of bed barely a half hour ago and we have 4.8 degrees here in Sioux Falls. I stepped out on my front deck and we have a clear sky and the wind is not blowing. The temp here is supposed to get up to about 27 this afternoon, and it has been predicted that our warmest day this week will be Saturday when the temp will hit 40. I'm kind of like Dan, I don't mind the snow so much, it's the cold I could do without.
One of my co-workers at Wendy's treated everyone to donuts yesterday, and I think I will be taking a batch of cookies to work with me tomorrow, either chocolate chip or oatmeal. But first I will need to stock up on some key ingrediants, which I will do later this afternoon after I get off work.
Ray
Morning! It feels downright balmy today at 3 degrees. I heard that we're supposed to get to ~27ish later this week! Better break out the shorts, lol. The last couple of nights were around -10 or so. Snow is fun (to a point) but the cold I'm done with. I guess it's part of winter and compared to some SE of us (Ohio River Valley) I really don't have cause to complain.
CN has been running trains with DPUs lately. I haven't seen it around here much as we don't have anything to speak of for grades (excepting Byron Hill which is almost 90 min south of me). I suspect they are trying longer trains to save on crew expense.
ln 4 weeks Misty and I will know what to expect with Sprout on 7/8/09: Almond Joy or Mounds (remember the commercial? LOL!). I guess I'll go lurk for a bit and see what I can find. Here's a mug with coffee for Mook!
Dan
Looks like we're in for it. Started about 3 AM. Not much snow yet, but it's showing a lot of "promise" (not to mention the winter storm warning).
Off to work.

Good morning, and thanks, CW, for breakfast. 51 degrees in Carolina an hour before sunrise. I woke up at 4 AM and have been killing time on the wireless and the computer. Haven't had much luck with either, it seems. The wife and I have been watching the heavy weather move across the country, and we feel for those in its path. Everyone take care and stay safe and warm

ModelcarThe ice stayed just south of us and understand lots of people are without power now....Not sure just where, but guessing parts of Kentucky and on east.
Good Wednesday morning, everyone. Quentin, since yesterday afternoon, we've had off & on freezing rain, from Seymour, IN southward. Supposed to have some heavy snow showers on their way in. I've been awake since before 4 a.m. And Sarah went to the firehouse around 8:30 or so last night(got a run in) and I'm guessing she's still there. All night, we've heard the occasional thud or thump from branches coming out of the pine tree in the front yard. We are lucky: we still have power, and I don't think there are any power lines down in our immediate area. All the area school systems are closed, and even quite a few businesses, due to downed lines and all the ice.
Got plenty of coffee ready, along with juices, hot cider, hot chocolate, and hot water for tea.
On the warmer bar: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits, fried country ham, grits, oatmeal, and sausage gravy.
Let's hear from everyone this morning, so we know you are all o.k., (unless you lost power, then we won't be able to hear from you for awhile).
Everyone please be careful and take care getting out in this weather. If possible, just stay in your house and keep safe and warm.
.....And we've had snow all afternoon and evening....Almost stopped now.
Can't tell just how much we did get during that time periond...guessing 3" or so, but more on the way overnight. Heard it could be 4 to 8" more inches by sometime tomorrow morning.
The ice stayed just south of us and understand lots of people are without power now....Not sure just where, but guessing parts of Kentucky and on east.

That's part of the reason we hang around, Roy. The word is fraternity. Mr Ed, congrats on the happy news and all the best for the missus on this happy day. Houston, keep out of the cold till you get over the miseries. Everyone take care and stay warm
To all in the forum, I thank you very much for your kind greetings on this my 57th day out from birth.
I got to work this morning and some very thoughtful people had put a bottle of Heinz 57 sauce on my desk to make the point.
Miss Paula, thank you very much for the snowshoe chicken and the follow up with the Lemon Ice box pie. You have a way with the food I must say with no hyperolly is worthy of note to any hungry person.
Mookie, a roar of good wishes returned to you from the cave in NC to your place in the den where the cats all know a cool thing or two about life and the good things that come with it.
And fellas, no greater greeting can come from those who we share the journey with here in the forum.
Thank you all very much.

Mr. & Mrs. E. Benton, congratulations!! That will be a most wonderful birthday present for you, Ed, come September!!
We had sleet earlier, and now I we're getting freezing rain. Supposed to be getting more snow later on tonight, overnight.
Walt and Sarah got outside this afternoon and shoveled the steps and sidewalks. I didn't get out today, except to step out on the front porch. Been doing more laundry today. Still have one or two small loads to do tomorrow.
On the warmer bar, you'll find fresh snowshoe chicken, side dishes, and plenty of the desserts left for at least tomorrow.
Everyone have a good evening, enjoy your supper, and, if you have to go out tonight, please take care and be safe!!
Oh, to be back in Tampa, FL again, was about 80 degrees down there yesterday at Yuengling Brewing Co, was getting a load of keg beer for a customer here in Agusta, GA. Will reload tomorrow with scrap paper for Barton, AL (up around the Muscle Shoals area, NW corner.).
Had fun this morning running through the Okefenokee Swamp at 4am in the dark, Amazing that they put the Florida weigh and inspection station in the middle of the swamp. Was trying to figure out what the light was up ahead, then found the sign. That road (US441) you can literally travel 20+ miles, and not see a single thing. Didn't see any gators, either.....
Will sit in the corner for a bit, sippin' on a soda.....

And snow has resumed falling here again about 3 hours ago after delivering about a half inch to us over night.
Believe we can expect 2 to 4" of the new stuff thru tomorrow morning from what they are forecasing. Low 20's temps now. Very light wind.
Snow has started here. Most of it the weather guessers say will fall east of I-75.Cw thanks for supper.Mr + Mrs Ed congratulations.Time to get things ready for work.Larry as for pictures my archives are really full.
Ed and Mrs. Ed: Congratulations! That's a nice flu to have!
Well I grab a plate with everything and sit down.
However I hear my cell ring answer it and loose my appeitte. I just found out that around my Bday in September I will be getting a very Special Birthday Present however it is the kind that takes 9 months to get here akak a new baby. My wife has not been feeling well recently we thought it was the flu GUESS NOT.
Thanks for the lunch, Paula.
CNW6000, whatever you have been doing, STOP IT! When your legs go, you can’t go. My next door neighbor has not been able to walk for some time now, and he and his wife are looking for a house with all the main rooms on one level. Their house, like ours, is a "split level"–the living room and kitchen are on the entry level, with bedrooms and a bathroom a half-flight up, and other rooms a half-flight down.
Roy, may today come back to you many more times, with joy each time. My grandfather would wish me "Many happy returns," and I could not figure it out–until many years laterI realized he meant what I wished you.
Tom, has your foot gotten over whatever it was that needed a soaking?
Ray, I hope you are feeling better today.
Johnny
Here is the menu for today: snowshoe chicken, green beans, carrots, mashed taters, milk gravy & homemade buttermilk biscuits.
Desserts: lemon icebox pie, chocolate cake, and apple cobbler.
Getting a little bit of sleet now, supposed to get several inches more snow later on.
Sun's shining right now (I'm sure the son's shining, too, but that would be the chrome on a fire truck). Still cool out though.
Ms Mook - my picture "collection" is anything but organized - what I went through last night was just one drawer. Went through the other one a week or two ago and found some pictures of my kids when they were young. Since one already has a baby and the other will in April, I figured I'd add to the "they look just like" speculation.
That speculation got a dose of reality when Mom brought along a decoupaged picture of my son on her visit. DIL looked at the picture and wondered aloud when it had been taken, thinking it was of my granddaughter. Surprise!
I'm still looking for some pictures of what used to be a local roundhouse. I'm thinking I may have taken them during my "slide" period, so I have to dig some more.
SJ, did you finish your taxes? You could insert a dead mouse or something.
Happy birthday, Roy!
We haven't had any significant snow for over a week. No significant thawing, though, either. Maybe sending the big storms to the south of us is part of the Change America Needs--let someone else have it for a while. Less than a week to Ground Hog Day!
Willy informed me that he's thinking about feeding his mother some Arby's to help her recover--kind of beef things up, I guess
Re: Houston. That's what he gets for standing outside and posing in the white stuff a while back. This too shall pass!
Happy Birthday Gentleman Roy. To the resident lion from the resident cat.
Dan.....at this rate you won't have a leg to stand on. (that is bad, even for me)
Wow - east and south of us is a mess. We keep getting the sprinkly snow but little accumulation. Most people will wait until Wed to shovel a little and then the sun will take care of the rest.
Tree - I gave all my pictures to my daughter. I never really ever looked at them, so thought she and her family should have them - for posterity.
I heard from Willy - his mom had successful hip surgery. She is doing well and should be home very soon.
And Houston is sick. His sniffer is in trouble. Sigh. This winter can't get over soon enough.
Off to do damage to something -
Well, at 10:08, we have 27 degrees, and no freezing rain: yet. And only one person came and rang the doorbell a little after 9 this morning. I'm in the kitchen, starting work on Roy's birthday dinner menu. I'll be back in a couple of hours, and post the entire menu for today.
Happy birthday, PL. Many happy returns of the day. Well, the temp went up to 40 and has dropped back to 37. It's supposed to top out at 51, but we seem to be going the other way at present. CW, thanks for breakfast and everybody have a great day.
Thanks for the good eats CW. I'll trade you some of our "Winter Air" for your snow. I'm finally tired of winter...
Happy Birthday Roy! Many returns.
A week ago this morning I tore the Gastrocnemius (calf) muscle in my right leg (6 months ago it was a tendon in my left leg) so I'm back on crutches. ARGH! At least the estimated healing time is only 3.5 more weeks versus 4-6 months with the tendon! The process is going fairly quickly as I've been supplementing with extra protein, potassium, and calcium. Walking on level ground is tolerable in short distances but stairs (up/down) still give me fits and I can't put much weight on the leg yet.
I recently came into possession of a large quantity of vinyl records and have no use for 'em. I think my next project will be to see what they're worth and eBay 'em!
Back later y'all...
Morning;
Roy, and Many, Many More!
We've got about 4" of snow now, the only tracks on our
sidewalk apparently were made by the paper carrier earlier,
and they're almost covered up now. Snow plow Just went
past the house, people still seem to be driving more carefully
than normal.
Joe, very glad we don't have the ice also; but, that's supposed
to come later in the day.
