Good Monday morning, everyone. Here in Louisville this morning, we have 35 degrees F, and not much of a breeze. Temp's not going to rise much today, as they're predicting a high of only 39. Our local school system, JCPS here in Jefferson County are still closed, but school officials say they'll be open tomorrow. Only two of the catholic schools are closed today, one elementary and one high school.
Coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready; on the warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage patties and links, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, bagels and bear claws.
Maybe we'll see more of the ice and snow melt today. That would be really nice: to be able to walk outside, and not have to worry about falling on the ice that's left.
Congratulations to Steelers fans, and condolences to Arizona Cardinals fans. It was a close game, from the looks of the final score, but, unfortunately, someone has to lose. Arizona, better luck next time. I didn't watch the game, but imagine that you all played your hearts out.

I can remember seeing a Bugs Bunny cartoon once where our infamous rabbit attacks Yosemite Sam who is decked out in Scottish attire and is playing the bag pipes. Bugs thought that Sam was being attacked by some kind of 8-legged monster.

The local pipe bands have a medley of two or three (including Scotland the Brave) that they often do. I have no idea what the others are.

The Louisville area is down to about 95, 000 still without power;
four deaths associated with the storm, mostly carbon monoxide
poisoning; such as bringing charcoal grills into house, generator in
garage attached to house.
Had a house fire early this morning, not storm related, but two
children died as a result of the fire.
Q, the Ohio is pretty full now, not sure we want to see it rising
much more due to the "Thaw"!

The last several days if you went out of the house, you had to
be very careful and not slip due to the ice; now with a bit of a
thaw, you have to watchout for falling ice!
Very much enjoy hearing Bagpipes playing, but growing up,
my Dad about ruined that for me; he got an LP, enjoyed playing
it so much, would put it on the turntable at 6:00am to wake
up the household! (FULL VOLUME!)

I'm not big on wings, but a loaded cheeseburger sounds good. So does the chili. We do have some French or Italian bread to go with it, right?
One popular event in this area is a "French Festival". Aside from the 10,000 pastries and a big flea market, the signature of this event is its parade, which invariably includes several bagpipe bands, usually from just across the border in Canada (you can see Canada from there).
After the parade many of the bands will return for individual performances, and oftimes all of the pipe bands will mass for a number or two. Since all of them learn the same songs, and bagpipes only play one key, it's not hard to do. It's a beautiful sound to hear all of the pipes playing together.
Sometimes some of them will get a little off with the melody, though, and then it's the most goshdarn awful caterwauling you could ever hope to hear.

Good Sunday morning, everyone! We have a temp this morning ranging from 38 to 41 degrees F. Looking for a high in the low 50s, with plenty of sunshine! Maybe we'll get rid of more of the ice and what little bit of snow we had this week.
I really like the bagpipe jokes. Know a guy (brother of my best friend while growing up) who plays the pipes. Guess he still plays them. I'll have to ask him the next time I hear from him.
Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, and hot water for tea are ready.

There's the bad joke which defines a gentleman as a man who knows how to play the bagpipes and doesn't. A variant substitutes saxophone for bagpipes.
Ricki's older daughter, Katie, learned the bagpipes about twenty years ago, and played (not all the time) until she married. Three or four from a local bagpipe group played the recessional at her wedding. Two were present at the rehearsal, and even though I knew they were going to play, the first note startled me, especially since I was standing right by them.
One summer, when we were up at Snowbird (it's a summer resort for Ricki and me; we do not ski), Katie was up there also. One afternoon, she practiced in the condo, and when she stopped, she heard applause in the hall--some of the employees had gathered by the door, and expressed their appreciation.

ohmigosh - do not, repeat, do not put any ideas in his head! This is finally one hobby that he hasn't thought of and he isn't going to hear about either!
I have seen him fish - trust me - he has both hands and both feet busy and his mouth is busy biting his lip. He's pretty serious about this "hobby".

(I do play some harmonica, and have a "chanter" which is what you use to practice bagpipes. I just don't own bagpipes yet...)
Clear and very cool here in Winston-Salem. When I left for work this morning at about six it was 28 degrees by the bank clock. This afternoon it got up to about 45 or so. If I could share this with you folks up in the Northern latitudes I certainly would send it your way.

As long as Driver can move, he will drive. He can't afford the holes stomped in the floorboard and the dents in the dashboard if he rides shotgun. (yes, I am a good, experienced driver - but it's the rare person that he will ride with)

Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss you all had up there. I agree with Mookie: why didn't he just kill himself, and leave the innocent who were trying to help him, alone?!?! That is such a tragedy.

Went out shopping for a chair. Now have 2 new chairs and a new foam bed. I am so tired of having aches and pains from the uncomfortable chairs we have in the house and our bed, so pre-spent my refund.
Got a sturdy wing back for the living room and an old-fashioned looking rolltop desk wooden chair for the puter. Has the rounded bow back with spindles and arms. Very comfy.
Bed and puter chair arrive next week. Wing back is being upholstered to match a low back chair we already have.
Now the Driver wants a new fishing pole and a new harmonica for his part. Can you imagine that? I am trying to talk him into a big stick out of the yard next door and two spoons.
Spent the day outside in a sweatshirt after 10 am. 63 here with 36% humid. and 70 in Houston. Yesssssss! 31st of January and I am a tad warm in a sweatshirt!
I would imagine when the rest of the USA is having spring, we will be snowbound. Just our luck.
And I was right - BNSF ran a few coal trains - no engines we hadn't already seen before. Did see one KCS as we were leaving town to go shopping. Was 2nd unit on west bound coal train. But yards were pretty quiet all afternoon.
Must get work done so I can watch Cops tonite.
