Our driveway is clear, thankfully. Temperatures were hovering around 30 all morning and well into the afternoon, but while Pat and I were in the grocery store, the wind shifted. When it drops down to single digits this evening, it may not come out until sometime Sunday--and that "warmup" will probably bring the snow with it.

Ironically, today is the day that the average high temperature for Chicago rises above its annual minimum for the first time.

I wish we could get any sort of meaningful breeze from our capital. Plenty of hot air from the "Guv", who just doesn't seem to get it.

Yes, Larry, get that stuff off while you can; tomorrow may be too late.

Mild-about thirty here this morning after rain and before more rain. Some sunshine this afternoon, but not much. The cold front that brought this rain did not do much to lift the cold layer of air (and whatever you want to name that is in it) that keeps us colder than the ski resorts (they are maybe 4000 feet higher than we are). I still have hopes that hot air from our Capitol Hill will help us some come Monday. We do expect some snow on the weekend.

Wow - pushing 40 here.  Haven't checked the forecast, but I'm sure it can't last.  I should get out and clean some of the packed snow and ice off the driveway while I have a chance.

Joe, we're supposed to going back into the freezer tomorrow.  May even be tonight, because they're calling for some possible flurries overnight tonight.  But for right now, we have a very pleasant 55 degrees with plenty of sunshine!  Think we'll be spending some time out in the backyard this afternoon.

Joe, Tom and others, glad you enjoyed breakfast this morning.  Now, you can enjoy our Friday Fish Fry.  Everything is on the warmer bar, ready and waitin' for you all.

MC, do I need to stop putting hot cider on the morning menu?

Everyone have a good afternoon, keep safe and take care.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Much 'warmer' here this morning, with a temp in the low 40s.  Supposed to get up into the mid 50s this afternoon.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.

On the counter this morning:  glazed doughnuts, apple, cherry, raspberry and peach danishes, chocolate covered, cream filled doughnuts, vanilla iced vanilla filled doughnuts, chocolate covered cream filled long johns, bagels and bear claw; and, there's also some muffins:  blueberry, cherry, chocolate muffins w/chococlate chips.

I hope everyone had a very good night, and will have a very good morning.  If you need anything else, I'll be around, maybe go visiting elsewhere around the forums.

Larry glad to see the grandkid on the mend.my nephew is also on the mend after having his tonsils out.in the traffic department

Joe:  Is it cheaper than in a hospital?

Outpatient treatment--far out!

Yes, outpatient treatment is superior when it is possible. I remember well my tonsillectormy in 1945--I woke up with the sorest throat ever, and left the hospital a day or two later. Ice cream went down better than anything else. Fifty years ago, I had a hernia repaired, and left the hospital two days later. I had hitch-hiked back up to Bristol from home (I had finished college) for the operation, and I thought I would go home (270 miles) and back to Bristol the same way a week later to get the stitches removed. I went to the college from the hospital and stayed in the infirmary there until stitch-removing time--and went home by bus. Two years ago, I had another hernia repair, and came home right after I woke up. No pain, yet gain.

Much warmer today–about thirty degrees with overcast this morning, so I walked my three miles (Monday and Tuesday were too cold). The sun did come out from time to time today, and we saw a few drops of rain on the windshield when we were out late this morning. The cold air that is trapped below the warm air is supposed to begin escaping tomorrow, as a storm comes in. Next week, we may have some help when the legislature convenes on Monday.

Evening everyone.....

Greetings from picturesque Whately, MA, home of the Filling Station Diner, as featured on the Food Network.  Nice old "Princess" style diner, and good food.

Was just down the road this morning delivering bottles to Berkshire Brewing, a local microbrewery.  Had to make three attempts to get in their driveway, snowbanks were a little too close to where my tires needed to go.  When in doubt, give it more fuel....

Will sit in the corner booth and enjoy dinner...

Good morning and thanks for a late breakfast. 41 degrees in Carolina, up from 26 at sunrise, with plenty of sunshine to make the day. I had to light out early to get some packages to FedEx and am just getting home and settled down. Think a nap is in order. Ta

Sometimes I wonder if Muncie goes south for the winter.

I understand why you might say that....We have had a bundle of sunshiny days this season.   That certainly helps one to glide thru the winter better.

But........We can get nasty cold here and many times with wind.  Snowfall on the avg. is not bad....Roughly, 25 to 27"  a season.

That's not much for my way of thinking as we're natives from western Pennsylvania at an elevation of 2000' and that can produce much snowfall.  Have seen as much as 188" of snow in that area a season.  Elevation here in Muncie airport:  About 940'.

We here in Muncie are hit with ice storms occasionally too.  But generally, it could be a lot worse.

And for today.....the bright sunshine blazes on....right in my window here in the home office.  Temp right now....30.7 degrees.

We are at 14 supposed to go up to 32 but I really don't think we are going to make it.  The 10 day forecast from weather.com says no above freezing temperatures any time this month.  Anybody need snow?  We have plenty.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Looks like a very good day in store for us here in Louisville:  we're at 29, 30 degrees this morning, and supposed to have a high today in the low to mid 40s.  It'll seem like spring time around here!

Larry, I'm glad to hear that Evie is on the mend, and back home with her parents!  Hope they are all doing good this morning.

Mookie, fishing does sound like a good idea, doesn't it?  Even though I've never been fishing, I don't think I'd mind going, and sitting on the bank with a fishing rod in the water.  (Maybe in a few months, when the temps are a little bit warmer, that is.)

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.  On the warmer bar this morning:

bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, hash browns, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, pineapple slices, cantaloupe slices and muffins:  blueberry & chocolate chip.

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and take care.

Larry, I wouldn't be surprised if there were antibiotics in her present, too

For sure.  That's really what I meant - I was just referring to the usual 10 day course...

But she did manage a trip to Bass Pro with her Dad!

Larry, I wouldn't be surprised if there were antibiotics in her present, too.

Springtime occurred as promised yesterday--I returned to work today to find retarders in working order (that didn't last!--had to get one fixed), some tracks restored to service, and everyone's switches functioning. We brought down the receiving yard count by about 400 cars, in spite of a steady stream of arrivals.

We were promised temperatures in the mid-20s for today, and that was delivered. The tower thermometer was reading 33 when I left, but I think the sun affects it, despite the fact that it's in shadow.

Finally--these are the first posts made from the new family computer, purchased nearly three months ago but finally installed today. Still a lot of things needing transferring, and I have a few things to learn and unlearn. On this computer, I seem to have spell-check built in when I post, so that puts me ahead of the game.

EDIT: I wonder what I have to do to get my posts to appear in the paragraphs I put them in.

Fresh edit: Figured it out!

Deggesty

Larry, how's the grandchild?

She's home as of last night.  I presume that means in relatively good health, although I'd imagine there's some antibiotics in her near future.

That's wonderful to hear! I know all of us are glad that she's home in her own bed.

It's wonderful what has been discovered that can fight stuff that formerly had to be simply waited out.

....Watched the beautiful church service conducted late this morning in the National Cathedral in Washington for the beginning of the new Adminstration.  Believe it was the most moving {for us}, program we've seen including all of yesterday's broadcast out over the TV air waves.  The beautiful pic's coming to us this morning and the sound clear as a bell....of which I can play in concert thru the Stereo system from input from the TV.  Just wonderful.

The National Cathedral is such an impressive structure and so awesome when one attends a function inside.  Had the pleasure some years ago to tour all through it.  Believe it was under construction for over a hundred years until it was actually deemed finished.  Believe that was under the first Pres. Bush Adm.

Weather here in Muncie now....partly cloudy.  Which means we're seeing some sunshine today.  Cold this morning again...14 when I first looked but now has risen to over 25 and possibly to 32 yet today....
