Good afternoon, all. It's about 34 outside now--not much different from the 32 when I went to church this morning, but lower than the 40 or so when I came home. We had a misting rain going in, and, comming a back, a heavier rain which added snow when I was almost home. The people going to work tomorrow are promised a messy drive.

Yes, Paula, add grits to the breakfast. Grits is better than oatmeal, which is IMHO infinitely superior to Cream of Wheat. I have enjoyed a locally produced cereal that seems to be really whole-grain cream of wheat. Grits, of course, is not well-known all over the country. One of my college friends was from southwest Virginia, and he told me that when he first ate grits, he thought that you should put milk and sugar on the grits. He just did not know about butter or red-eye gravy. Do you have honey to go with the cornbread?

Randy, glad to see you in.  Next time you head for Florida, maybe you could drop by and pick a couple of people wanting to go where it's warmer!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Sunday Dinner is now on the warmer bar.  I've been in the kitchen all morning, and afternoon, fixing dinner/supper.  Here's the menu:  Roast, potatoes, carrots, green beans, beef gravy, corn, hot cornbread fresh out of the oven (sweet and unsweetened), plenty of butter to go on the cornbread.

And, for dessert, we have:  chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, cherry pie, apple pie, peach pie, and ice cream for pie ala mode.

Joe, got containers in the fridge, for you to take for work tonight.   Everyone take care, stay warm, and have a great evening.

We've been having off and on snow flurries, and they're beginning to stick.  at 4:51, we have 22 degrees here in Louisville.

On my way to Orlando, they are a touch thirsty down there at the moment, will fix that tomorrow morning.  From there, who knows, but am trying to get home for the Super Bowl next weekend.

Carl, I have a few choice words for your Governor, but you guys can just drop him off an overpass into the path of a speeding truck, save all the taxpayers a lot of money.  Heard he is supposed to be on Larry King Live Monday night, should be interesting, if not comical, to watch.  The last news conference I watched, I couldn't understand anything that was said.

Into the bunk, 3am comes awful early.....

Tree:  Any art deco or good glassware at the auction?  I am kinda partial to Mary Gregory and some Vaseline glass.  Especially if it is cased.  Kind of like a dress with a slip under it.  Looks more finished.

Anyway, sounds like a good place to be on a cold nite!

Saw a Vaseline bowl go up for sale last night.  Don't remember what it went for - I rarely track stuff unless I have a particular interest in it.   Bids were down last night - much to the chagrin of the folks from the station.   This is a fundraiser for them.

"Mary Gregory" doesn't ring a bell - don't think I've encountered it.  There was some nice lead crystal and other cut glass.

The items they have range from rustic to refined.  One item I was somewhat interested in was a "farm level" - MC would have appreciated it.  It wasn't a sophisticated surveying tool, but probably closely resembled the instruments that were used to survey early railroads, which is why I was interested.  Went a little higher than I wanted to go, and to a friend at the station.

Still no new snow here - but looks like it snowed all night and is still snowing to the south  of me.   I'll find out later today when I go back in to the TV station for another night of antiques.

Temp bottomed out aroun -16F overnight and is now already back up to +11F.

Still, that oatmeal sounds like a good, hot, stick-to-your-ribs breakfast.

Then I gotta go out and feed the birds.   They can go through as much as two gallon containers a day, which will again make short work of the 50 lbs of black oil sunflower seed I picked up last night.  But they're fun to watch.  Had two papa cardinals at the feeders a little while ago.

Thanks for serving breakfast this morning, CW. I would be fixing myself some oatmeal in my own kitchen this morning, but the little bit of milk that I have on hand has been in my fridge a bit too long and probably should be dumped down the sink. Dead

Right now in Sioux Falls we have a temp of about 3 degrees above 0 and I don't think it will get much warmer than that this afternoon. It kind of looks like I will be walking home from work this afternoon, and I will make sure that I am dressed in several layers for my one mile walk!

Beautiful red skies over where the sun is about to rise above the horzion.   11 plus degrees here now.  Possible snow flurries sometime today, but not now and maybe not later....One can't be sure of the flurries forecasts.

Good Sunday morning to all.  We're at 17, 18 degrees, supposed to get back up to low 30s for a high today.  We already have a winter storm watch in effect until Wednesday night.  Freezing rain, snow and sleet to start Monday night.  Could see 2 to 4 inches of snow Tuesday, with another 1, 2 inches Wednesday.  (yuck and double yuck)

Joe, that oatmeal sounds real good this morning.  Would anyone like some cinnamon toast to go along with the oatmeal?  And for anyone not wanting or liking oatmeal, I am adding some grits and cream of wheat to the morning menu, along with some turkey bacon.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and keep safe.

Larry, you look to be in good shape for an "antique"; you might have fetched a good price fir your station!

It's stayed above zero so far tonight; there are still a couple of hours before sunup, though. We're also having a band of snow go to the south of us--might come and see us a little later. Just got an update: creeping closer, now one above.

The Lake Effect can be dramatic here, too. I know that western Michigan and northwestern Indiana were getting some yesterday. We had completely clear skies, but the Chicago skyline was standing against a backdrop of clouds all day--very spectacular in the early morning!

Mookie

shiver!

Went in to town today to run camera for the local PBS station's antique auction (managed to avoid being sold myself).

Left the house about 4 to get some shopping in before going to the TV station.  It was cold - about 5 above.

Left the station in the midst of a heavy lake effect event.  Didn't check the temp at the truck, but when I got home (to starlit skies - no snow in sight - such is the nature of lake effect hereabouts) it was -16F.  It's warmed up to -14F now at 2 AM.

Time to snuggle in.  The Dal is informing me it's time for bed.

Well, it got up to about 35 today and was nice and Sunny, so Sarah & I decided to

do a bit of railfanning.

Unfortunately, there wasn't very much going on.

Got home and found CW on the phone with Dell Tech Support;

seems 'puter did something that it normally doesn't, so she had

to call for help; which in doing so, found that the call had been routed

to somewhere in India.

She is now in the kitchen fixing the food for the Saturday PIZZA FEST

Menu Follows:

1.  Anchovy

2.  Cheese and Extra Cheese

3.  Pepperoni/Canadian Bacon/Mushroom

4.  Goetta

5.  Hawaiian

6.  Supreme

Well it warmed up to about 15 degrees here this afternoon and it has been slowly cooling down here, right now in Sioux Falls we have a temp of 10 degrees above 0. I don't know if we are to get any snow at all this week, I for one could certainly do without it.

My furnace, which was brand new in 2002, has chosen to malfunction on me, and while I am not totally without heat, it takes a while for the heat to come back up once I turn the thermostat up. My brother-in-law looked at it last Sunday while I was at work and he told me he had to order a part for it, and I am assuming he is still waiting for it to come in. Harley, my brother-in-law, is a plumbing & heating contractor and he knows his trade pretty thoroughly. I kind of wonder what my family would do without him!

We had a few flakes down here this afternoon. It took 4 deputies and a canine officer to bust them, and now they are in the gaol waiting a bail hearing.

I saw a few flakes last night, but there wasn't enough to make a difference.

A few flakes? In the UK our underworked TV reporters would have been yanked out of their overstaffed newsrooms and despatched to show us what snow actually looks like, and comment accordingly, in hushed reverential tones.

Good morning, all. The report was 42 degrees at seven this morning, and the sky seemed to be cloudy (the sun was still hiding over in eastern Utah, so I could not really tell). It is partly cloudy now.

Last night, something (I think it had to be more than fog) really delayed the westbound CZ, which due in at eleven--it arrived at 5:24 this morning. It was only 2:21 late out of Denver. The eastbound train arrived ten minutes early.

Well - 40 yesterday, 0 right now.  What a difference!  At least we didn't get the snow they promised us.   I saw a few flakes last night, but there wasn't enough to make a difference.

Bacon, eggs, the works this morning.   Lots to do!

Good morning folks, it's 4:30 AM here in Sioux Falls and I am getting ready to go to work at Howes Oil Company. Thought I would  stop in here first and put breakfast together for everyone else. This morning we have a pan of freshly baked cinnamon rolls, coffee, hot cider, orange and pineapple juices, bear claws, donuts and cream filled rolls, blueberry pancakes, french toast, hot maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon and pork sausage links. Chef

While I don't know about the rest of you folks, we've had it pretty nice weather-wise here in Sioux Falls......up until now that is. Right now our temp is roughly -4 degrees below 0, to say nothing of what the wind chill factor might be, and our projected high is only about 7 or 8 degrees above 0.

Well, I hope the rest of you out there all have a good day. Stay warm, stay safe!

Ray     ooo    ooo ooOOOOOo

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Ray!!  Where on earth have you been?!?!?!  Haven't seen you in here for awhile now.  (Guess you've been really busy, huh?  And thank you so much for fixing such a wide assortment of goodies for breakfast this morning!

Considering the fact that we got up to 60 degrees yesterday, it's really cold this morning:  temp is in the upper 20s, and they say we'll really struggle to get to 32 degrees this afternoon.  Ray, I'm glad we don't have your temps, but I think we'll be getting them back.  Temps in the morning are supposed to be in the teensGuess we can all hold on for 7 1/2 weeks, until the official start of Spring.

Everyone have a good day, stay warm and take care.

I haven't paid much attention to young Mr. Daly and his sayings. Is any worth repeating? I have a nephew in Bolingbrook, but I have not discussed the current state of the state with him.

Salt Lake City is, if not already, about to be shut down by fog--one of the runways has been closed, and it may well be that nothing will be allowed to take off as well as to land. It's quite foggy out here, about six miles south of the airport. That leaves us with civilized transport only (though Greyhound may be able to move over the road). I'll check in the morning and see how Amtrak 5 & 6 ran tonight.

Yes, fish for supper. Thanks, Paula.
