I woke up this morning at 5:00, and discovered that we have about an inch of fresh snow on the ground here in Sioux Falls. I just poked my head out the front door and it was still snowing, but I don't think we will get the four to eight inches that the National Weather Service has been predicting.
I am somewhat tempted to crawl back into my bed and try to sleep a bit longer, but once I've been up for a while it's kind of hard for me to go back to sleep.
I have the day off today and I might spend part of my day here in my kitchen baking cookies or bread. I am going to eventually send a care package to a cousin of mine who lives out in Grand Lake, Colorado. About a month ago she had encountered a bull moose, face-to-face while walking her dog in the neighborhood where she lives, and the darned thing attacked her, head-butted her and tossed her into a snow bank. Lynne had her arm ex-rayed to make sure that it was not broken, and she is doing O.K., although she was quite shaken up emotionally by this event.
Mrs. Tails-a-draggin' here. Woke up a little early and suddenly realized everything was asleep but my brain.
Windy, not too cold, little moisture predicted - 20-30% usually means nothing shows up.
I really must get to the coffee p.....

Good rainy Thursday morning! We've been getting rain since about 8:30 last night, and it's still coming down. Joe, glad you all had a nice time, and glad you made it home all right. Thanks for the great pictures, too!!
Coffee is ready, and I've made fresh orange juice, pineapple juice, apple juice, and orange/tangerine juice, and they're in the cooler. Hot water is ready for tea and hot chocolate, and there's also hot cider this morning.
On the breakfast bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, oatmeal and toast, scrambled eggs, and homemade buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy, bagels and bear claws.
Also working in the kitchen, part of the meals for lunch and supper: pork chop abracadbera and I think we'll also have Mexican Fiesta Night. How's that sound to everyone?!?!
Shirley, thank you for the kind words. I think about quite a few of our patrons who seem to be MIA. Wish we would hear from them; but guess they're just too busy to check in and say "Hi".

Ms. Paula, as a certain Mr. Wiseman has said , its' sweet to be rememberd. Hope you are feeling better now spring has arrived. Winter has a way making one weary.Best to you and your Walt.

Larry: very good pictures!! Geez, Louise, has it been three weeks already?!?!?! She is a little cutie pie!! Mookie, if Little Evie is watching me cook, that explains the surprised expression, right?!?!?! She probably thinks "That one isn't much taller than I am. What is she doing cooking?!?!?!"
Got more pork chops and sides on the warmer bar, along with some leftover Italian spaghetti and fresh baked garlic bread from the oven. And there's plenty more peach cobbler for dessert, and plenty of ice cream to go over the top.

I guess I'll just have to take the rap for my nap myself, then.
You can keep the mushrooms, but I'll take plenty of the rest. Then I'll need the nap.
All the way up to 37 now - but the sun is out. Not making the snow go away very fast, though.

Okay, everyone, lunch if now being served. Baked the pork chops, and with the elephant ear mushrooms, I sauteed some onion , boiled potatoes, and mashed them, and made plenty of gravy to pour over the potatoes. Cannonball, couldn't find any watercress, so it must have floated on downstream. I'll keep looking, though, and should find some soon for you, Cannonball!! (Hey: how's Shirl doing lately? Tell her "Hello" for us!) The sassafras tea is really delicious!!
Jack, thanks for bringing in the Breyers vanilla to go with the peach cobbler. By the time you all are finished eating, the cobblers will be coming out of the oven, and be just cool enough, that you won't burn your tongues, even with the ice cream on top of the cobbler!!
Mookie, how about making plans to meet out in the garden tomorrow morning?

I'll eat light this AM after seeing CW's mid-day plans. Too early for me to make ice cream out on my deck so I will furnish some Breyer's vanilla to put on the peach cobbler Paula is making.
Later this spring I shall contribute home made ice cream. Just vanilla but I bring several toppings.

Drive safe in the land-o-cheese Jim. I hear they got a pile of snow down that way with more coming.
My tendon is sore this morning, but better than yesterday: I can run again! YAY! Time to get back at 'er...duck and cover weightroom. Playtime... I'll be back in for lunch.
^? Another day of breathing ready to go. Pretty quiet, so will go doze in the corner.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone! Dale, thanks for cleaning up in here last night/wee hours of this morning!! I appreciate all help around here!
Eolofan Jim, have a safe trip to Wisconsin, and back home again!
Coffee, juices, tea and cider are fresh this morning. On the warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, oatmeal, toast, bagels and bear claws.
Cannonball, thank you for your meal suggestion. I will try to find some watercress; but, in case I don't (might be too early for it around here), I've got some bibb lettuce, that should work in a salad with the vinegar and bacon bits. The pork chops, mushrooms and taters will be going in the Crock Pots in about a half hour, so it'll be ready by lunchtime. And while that's starting to cook, I'll get busy in some peach cobblers.
Looks like I'm the last one here tonight. Time to finish off all of the remaining pastries.
I wonder if I burp in my sleep?
CW ; Isnt' it gittin' close to springtime salad , such as watercress /w vinegar and bacon bits?? . Then serve pork chops /w elephant ear mushrooms mash taters , and gravy. To wash it all down, stout sassafras tea. ~~~ peach cobbler would be nice ( warm) for a topper. Or has the high water washed the patch of watercress away?? Justa thought.
Respectfully , Cannonball

Great. I didn't think that area of the state had enough snow. Let's give you all of ours, too!
Well, it's been a beautiful day here in the Metro Louisville area! Mostly sunshine, and a few clouds and a little bit overcast late afternoon. Might have a little bit of light rain, or sprinkles this evening, but nothing too bad.
Our supper menu tonight:
Italian spaghetti w/mushrooms, and the spaghetti sauce is parmesean & romano. Also have your choice of garlic Italian style bread or garlic Texas Toast, and there's plenty of garden salad in the cooler.
Getting ready to dish up our supper here at home, which is the same as in the Cafe tonight. Hope you all enjoy your supper, and take care.
.....Wind is the name of the weather game here in the mid west today.....and especially central Indiana but it's wide spread as we just were talking to friends in Pennsylvania and it's windy there too...
21 mph and 37 mph gusts....Partly cloudy and 48 degrees but feels colder.
Still waiting for our first Humming bird to return....None yet.

One office I worked in had one of those 20-30 cup drip coffee pots. The boss would show up first each morning and get the first batch going. But he wasn't the most patient type, so he'd make the coffee such that he could draw off a decent cup before it was done brewing. That made the end product pretty strong.
When he retired, I acquired one of his old coffee cups and filled it with brown colored wax with a spoon stuck in it. The wax was made so it could be pulled out with the spoon, to illustrate just how strong his coffee was. Unfortunately I couldn't make the retirement party, so I don't know how the gag went over.
Isn't there something about throwing egg shells in the coffee to keep the grounds down, or something like that?
Speaking of egg shells - dear old Dad told me that when he was in the Army (WWII), real eggs were in short supply. Powdered eggs filled in at the mess hall, but the troops always complained about that. So, when mixing up a vat of the powdered eggs, they'd throw in a dozen eggs, shell and all. Now the troops complained about the shells in the scrambled eggs, or figured they were using real eggs instead...
Had about 60 people show up today for Produce. Not too bad stuff, either: cabbage, lettuce, apples and potatoes.
On today's lunch menu: BLTs, tuna salad sandwiches and ham sandwiches w/chips and garden salads.
Mookie, getting ready to take a nap: those people wore me out this morning! But, as soon as I wake up, I'll email you how I make coffee. I've had quite a few people ask me how I make coffee, cause they like the taste: not too strong, and not weak.
Catch you all after a bit.
It was long a ritual at our house, when I was young, for Mom to boil her coffee every morning and then pour it through a strainer into her favorite cup, add cream and sugar and - it really was pretty good.
They say now that boiled coffee isn't good for you. Guess she quit in time after so many years, cuz she is now almost 88 and still going strong. Dad still drinks coffee anyway he can get his hands on it and he is now almost 91.
Bad coffee.....
Back to the time I was setting stakes and points on forms for nenewing bridges, just after the last dinosaurs became extinct, we boiled coffee at the construction site. Our way of determining if the coffee was too strongh was to throw a track spike into the pot. If it floated the coffee was to strong, if it sank we drank the coffee.
