Okay, the first round of vegetable beef soup and navy bean soup w/ham are both ready, and now on the warmer bar.  There is also fresh-from-the-oven cornbread to go with the soups for today.  And, if anyone wants them, you can have your choice of the following sandwiches:  grilled cheese, PB&J, fried bologna and cheese sandwiches.

At 12:36, we have sunny skies w/a current temp of about 42, 43 degrees.  It doesn't feel too bad outside, even with the very light breeze.  Of course, I was standing in the sun, out in the back yard, and not in any shade.  Imagine that would be a little bit chilly, don't you know.

mudchicken

(A close second would be the company truck that had a head-on with a bathtub on I-25 in the left northbound lane on Thursday. )

I'm sure that one will be a wash.

Could be that they made a "Clean Getaway"

"Rub-A-Dub-Dub, One Truck In A Tub!"

I think the tub won - $3000+ body & suspension damage (plus a new seat cover)...truck, a 2006 Chevy C-2500 is not drivable....Tub (green) has chipped enamel plus a few new dents....

Good Tuesday morning, and HAPPY VETERANS DAY to all our veterans here in the Cafe and elsewhere on the forums!  We have the rights and freedoms we sometimes take for granted because of the sacrifice of you men and women.  We salute each and every one of you, and say  THANK YOU FOR SERVING YOUR COUNTRY!!

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot water for tea and hot cider (esp. for mudchicken) are ready for everyone.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, along with bagels and bear claws.

We currently have 40 degrees here in Louisville, waiting for rain to come in, in just a little bit.  Hopefully, we'll get through with Tuesday Produce before the rain starts.  At least it's not supposed to be a heavy rain, just nice and gentle.

Everyone have a good morning, and see you all after Produce.

Thanks for breakfast, CW. I think I'll pour myself a cup of hot chocolate and grab a bear claw while I am here. We have 32 degrees here in Sioux Falls and we are getting a freezing rain. I've got to make the trek to the bus depot to board the #5 route which will get me to my chiropractor's office in a couple hours, and I'm not looking forward to walking on icey, slippery sidewalks. I've heard the streets here are O.K., so I'll be walking in the streets as much as possible. We could be getting as much as an inch or two of fresh snow later this afternoon. And right now snow is something I can do without.

Well, I thought I'd be picking up my daughter right now on our way to the Eastman House in Rochester to see their "Trains" exhibit.  Instead, I'm at work, trying to resolve a stubborn problem.

I'm a vet, a number of my relatives are/were vets, a lot of my friends are vets, and I see a lot of future vets every day.  Thanks to all for their service.

Good morning America and all your veterans, and let's not forget the Canadian's Remembrance Day. It has been slightly over 40 years now since I got out of the Navy, and if they called me back, I would report as soon as I could hobble in! I really think they would send me back home this time, tho...

Also, not many know it is also George S Patton's birthday.

Currently 51 degrees and clear in Carolina, on the way to 64 and some clouds. Everybody take care and stay warm. Ray, be especially careful on the way to the chiropractor.

Good Morning and Happy Veteran's Day!!

All the best to current and former servicefolks (self included).

As I seem to be alone here on this lovely Tuesday morning I'm putting on the hot water for some cream of wheat. Lunch will be an MRE for old times sake. Really, for me it should be "C" Rations, but who's counting...

Larry, if you are a vet, I want to thank you for having served your country! The freedoms that we enjoy today would not be possible without those who have served in our Nation's armed services. Yesterday I saw a gentleman in the dining room at Wendy's where I am working and he was wearing a t-shirt with the words "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" on the back of it, and it gave me reason to stop and think about a lot of people who have given their lives to preserve our freedoms.

I would be flying my American flag today, but I need to mount a bracket for the pole on my front deck, and that will require a drill and a few screws.

We are now getting heavy snow here in Sioux Falls, and it's coming down in BIG flakes. I have the day off today and I called my Chiropractor's office and rescheduled my appointment for Thursday morning, so I won't be going anywhere today. I might brave the elements and go to my neighborhood grocery store for a couple rolls. Today is "Cookie Tuesday" at my grocery store, and I could fill a whole bag for nineteen cents per cookie. It's not too unusual for me to buy a couple dozen cookies at a time, and they never last me more than two or three days at the most. I'm not supposed to have a lot of sugar anyway.

CW, what's for lunch this afternoon?

Well, it started snowing here within the last hour, and right now it is coming down in BIG flakes. I called my chiropractor's office and rescheduled my appointment for Thursday morning. I am going to stay home and not try to go anywhere today. Although I might brave the elements and walk four blocks to my  neighborhood grocery store for a couple rolls. Today is "Cookie" Tuesday at Sunshine Foods and I sometimes buy a couple dozen cookies at 19 cents a piece, they never last me more than two or three days at the most, and I'm not supposed to have a lot of sugar anyway.

To those of you who have served this country, THANK YOU!! The other day when I was working at Wendy's there was a gentleman in our dining room who was wearing a t-shirt with the words "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" on the back of it, and it served to remind me of the supreme sacrifices that our veterans have made for us, both the living and the dead.

What the heck?  I thought tubs were prohibited from driving on public roads.

Greetings to all.

Back from my trip on the California Zephyr.  During the stop at the Denver, I went down the ramp to say hello to Chris.  First meeting IRL, but unfortunately didn't have much time for a chat.  Before joining me on the train, my wife had spent a very pleasant couple of days with her aunt and uncle in Denver.  We put a return trip to the Mile High on the list, at which time I am sure that I will ask Chris to work as a guide to the best hot spots up the Moffett Route.

With a brilliant sky, the ride up the Front Range was just spectacular and the next day also provided excellent conditions for the run over Donner Pass.  If there is just one trip to be taken on Amtrak, it has to be the CZ.  The west bound schedule puts the train in some of the best scenery in the US during day light hours-even during the short days of winter.

By the way, among the persons of note found in Sacramento was one Mark Hemphill.  He is well, and if the time spent on the Blackberry is any indication, quite busy with his employment duties.

Returning home, found that my "hold out" tree has shed the last of it's leaves.  With a little luck, I will get in the last run of the mower before serious snow.  Speaking of snow, anybody have a link to a web site offering advice on how humans can hibernate for 3-4 months?

Folks:  sorry about not getting in here until now.  Was a very busy morning with Produce.  Many, many people today:  more than we've had for two or three months.

I've warmed up the vegetable beef soup, bean soup w/ham, and made some cornbread.   You'll also find some burritos and tacos included with the soups on the warmer bar.

For the time being, our light rain has ended.  Unless the forecast has changed, we may see a little bit heavier rain late tonight, and tomorrow.

Jay, so glad to see you come in!  Sounds like you really enjoyed your trip on the CZ!!

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a very good night last night.  Looks like we had a very slow night in here.  Had to get everything cleaned up, before I could start coffee.  Now, I'm working on breakfast.

Just got the coffee, and hot water started for tea, heating the milk for hot chocolate, and making fresh juice for today.

Along with bagels and bear claws, here's what else you'll find on the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, pancakes with your choice of the following 'toppings':  maple syrup, blueberry syrup, blueberries, strawberries, or an assortment of fresh fruit.

Does anyone have any special requests for lunch and supper today?  If you do, let me know, and I'll try to get it fixed for you.

Good morning-

We have 34 degrees here in Sioux Falls and some fog, which is now beginning to lift. And it's not supposed to get much warmer than this here today.

CW, thanks for serving breakfast this morning! I think I'll grab a few pancakes and a bear claw while I am in here.

I will be headed for my optometrist's office in a couple hours for an eye-xam which is probably overdue. I might be getting new glasses, but will try to put that on the back burner until I have the money to pay for them.

Our local HO scale railroad club, The Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society will be hosting an open house and a swap meet this coming weekend, and I have requested Saturday off from my main employer for this event. I am hoping we will have a good turnout.

I hope the rest of you out there all have a good day!

Joe and Ray, you're welcome regarding breakfast this morning.

Ray, hope your eye appointment goes well.  That's something that Mutt and I need to be thinking about.  We're both overdue for eye exams.

On the lunch and supper menu for today:

1.  Tuna and cheddar cheese melt casserole

2.  Open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed potatoes and beef gravy

Both will be served with garden salad, peas and carrots and baked dinner rolls.

Right now, our rain has stopped; due to come back sometime later this afternoon.  Say it could be heavy at times.  Guess we'll see what we get.

Thinking about taking a short walk after a little bit.  Maybe I can get a glimpse of a train or two while I'm out.

I've not had an open-face roast beef sandwich in a long time! That looks mighty good to me, CW.

I just got home from Vision Care Associates. I had my eye exam and my eye doctor told me that my prescription for glasses will change just a little bit. I am going to wait a while until I have money to work with before I order a new pair of glasses. The eye exam itself cost me $98.00 and that kind of hurt, but still I like to know that my eyes are reasonably healthy. I have an Aunt on my Mom's side of the family who is slowly losing her eyesight to Macular Degeneration. I might try having new lenses crafted for my old frames.

Hot Beef Sandwiches!  I'm In!

Just stopped by the Rochelle webcam. After a westbound UP coal empty rolled by an eastbound UP manifest behind four units came into view.  Nothing to get excited about, until the first of many flats loaded with John Deere tractors and other machines rolled in behind some tank cars.  That's not something I see very often, so it made an interesting watch for a minute or two.

Work detail Saturday morning in Utica to prepare the cars for Polar Express.  All help welcome!

Friday night I'm taking in a slide show about the Adirondack Division put on by the Utica-Rome NRHS chapter, of which I'm a member.  Should be interesting to see the line in years past.

.....Wow, did without our computer now for a bit over 2 days.  Sure makes a difference around here without it.

Comcast had to replace the Cable Modem.  Also it was recommended to us to change both incoming cable lines {upgrade to RG-6 wire}, for our TV's, which I told them to go ahead and install the new.  Seems the older {in}, cable wire can input trash signals into our Hi Speed Cable line so now we have that possibility eliminated.

As I bring up various threads here though...I still see a flash of {error on page}, down on the status line, as I go from thread to thread.....??

Sigh  Had to get used to new format and now a new puter!

I think we are connected.  But the flat screen is so big, I feel like I should sit in the balcony.  Went from 10.5 wide to 21.5 wide.  Everything yells at me now!

I will have to spend 3-4 days just trying to find my way around and setting up all my old haunts.  I hate this kind of change.  Don't have my resident puter guru to hold my hand while I get used to it.  Tree?  Want to give me some words of encouragement?

Off to do some more hunting.
