Mookie
Tree?  Want to give me some words of encouragement?

I was just wondering what had become of you.

Find a neighborhood kid - they'll have you set up in no time...  Of course, you'll have stuff you have no idea what to do with, too.  Evil

Patience and Google are your friends.  That and a list of all the places you want to be able to get to.  My "Favorites" run to around three pages worth.  The top ten or so get most of the business, but I hit a lot of the others on a regular basis.

My current computer at work is getting tired.  I dread having to move, though, since I have a lot of "stuff" to move over from the old one.  And then hope I didn't miss anything, since once I'm done with it, everything on the hard drive will be deleted.

Keep your anti-pest program(s) up to date.  Doesn't take long for one of those viruses to cause you significant pain.

I love my big flat screen.  The one at work is even wider!  I haven't loaded the software to use the whole thing, though.  Then there are the people who have two screens hooked to their computers!

I could've been one of those people a couple of months ago, but didn't make enough noise.  Now, with the turn in the economy, the company has told everyone to not even bother asking.  The engineers who have two swear by it, though- makes it easy to compare documents or do other multi-tasking stuff.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Mookie:  welcome back!!  You were definitely missed!  Here's your coffee mug, and it's already filled for you, too!!  I'm not sure I would want a flat screen monitor that large.  Would probably have to completely move the computer to a new location, and not exactly sure where that would be!!

Along with the coffee, hot water for tea, the juices, hot cider and hot chocolate are all ready for everyone.

On the breakfast warmer bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, bagels, bear claws, country fried ham w/red eye gravy, grits, biscuits & gravy, cereal and cantaloupe chunks.

You all have a good morning, and take care.

One nice thing about flat screen monitors is that they have a much smaller footprint.

I'll have my usual bearclaw & tea.

Gonna play "Houston Ed" Saturday morning.  We've got to assemble our "Polar Express" train and the cars aren't even close to being in the right order.  Can't just kick 'em, though.  Gotta put 'em together nice....

Of course, then we have to hook up the HEP and sound and make sure it's all right, and clean and decorate the train.  Hope that last plea for help one of our conductors sent out is productive.

And be ready for the volunteer dinner at 1215, a half hour away....

Tree/Brian - had two flats at former job.  But we were working on a database and doing mostly data entry, so after being on one for many years (actually used the 10.5 I am getting rid of ) the two were heaven.  You could put one screen for referral to your left and work on the right screen.

Home use wouldn't be too practical, but working on data - limited toggle zone!

Tree - are you getting your polar set up done before the snow and bitterly cold weather up there?  Houston Ed was just saying that he is getting mold in his boots from all the rain down there.  Told him at least he didn't have to shovel it.

Have figured out the Vista is a lot of glitz and glamour.  Seems to be made more for the younger set.  Kind of like going through the old 5 and 10 and seeing counters piled high with lots of fluff.  But what I really need is a "word" type place.  Need to have something that I can record train information and then print it off on my new printer that isn't hooked up yet.

Do they make software that I can load on for a "word" type place?  Does anyone even understand what I am asking?

If we get through that, I will have another question that I am desperate to have answered.

Back to hunting.

Mornin everbody.... 59 and cloudy in Carolina headed toward 70 and rain. Mookie, it's a learning experience that never ends. The hardware is another source of amazement. Before you get it broken in good, it will be obsolete! There is a front going through here. I can feel it in my shoulder and back. I should sell my services to the nearest weather buro so they can cut back on the science funding.....

Everybody stay warm and safe. C ya

Polar trips start in two weeks (Thanksgiving weekend).  More than anything else we'll get any bugs identified so the mechanical department can work on them and know what remains to acquire to decorate, etc.

We've already had snow and cold (although it's 49 here today).  Rain is a possibility Saturday morning (oh, goodie!)  Two years ago we had hardly any snow for any of the runs, last year we nearly cancelled the last night due to the weather.  Still, the show must go on!  People travel substantial distances to ride the Polar Express.

....53.8 degrees here in central Indiana and overcast and at times, the sun tries to peek out.

Flat screen for monitors sounds great....Especially the nice sized ones.  Have looked at flat monitors and they really are nice.   But I simply can't throw a perfectly good CRT flat screen away yet.  I will go that route at the appropiate time though.

Dover, huh.  I was there in 1970...   They were still flying C141's and (you may have to look these up) C133's...

.....My opinion, V-6 engine configurations for moderate sized vehicles works fine.  Have a 3.0L in auto and 4.3L in Xtreme....Plenty of power.

Adrian, good to see you back here. Nice vehicle, nice price.

Mook, we're only at 5 yrs on our 'puter; wish we could afford to

upgrade......Flat Screen Monitor would be one of the first choices

if and when we can order one. (Much, Much more Memory is

the first!)

We had one of the first V-6 engines that Chevy/GM put out;

80 something Malibu; wouldn't give you 2 cents for that motor,

would rather have had a 4 banger or a slant 6.

Good Friday morning, to one and all!  Nice start to the day.  Temp's in the mid 50s, and should be a nice morning:  until the rain coming from the northwest gets here.  Then, they say the rain may be heavy at times, during the overnight hours.  We're supposed to have temps in the low to mid 60s, before the rain and cold front comes in.  Believe the temps will then start to slowly drop.  High for tomorrow is to be in the low 40s.  Also supposed to have a dusting of snow sometime tomorrow night, into Sunday morning.

Coffee, juices, hot water for tea and cider are ready.  And on the counter, our regular Friday morning doughnuts, danishes, bagels, bear claws and muffins are on the counter.

Hope you all had a good evening last night, and hope you all have a very good morning.

Good morning, it's Friday! 57 degrees and a thunderstorm in Carolina!!!!!!!!!!

Tom, you folks seem to get a lot of thunderstorm / lightning activity down in your area....Kind of surprising to me.

Our morning weather activity is temp in mid 50's and overcast skies.  Colder later in the weekend is projected.

I made a late afternoon decision yesterday while temps were in the mid 50's to go get the tractor out and do a mowing / mulch of grass and leaves and it payed off....But had to make 2 runs on the west side of our property and now it looks pretty good again.  Neighbor's trees have maybe 20% of leaves remaining but believe that is the last for the season as far as mulching any more leaves.  Might have to do one more mowing a bit later if we have any mod. temps, etc...

Subject of V-6 engines:  Walt, I'd say you would have much better service from most V-6 engines from those on duty out there now.

My 4.3L {design},  engine has been around quite a while and has been quite successful.  At first they had no balance shaft and now later versions do...Needed because they are a 90 degree V design and require balance shaft effort.  My 4.3L has great torque and that is what gets a vehicle moving from a standing start...{That's in my Xtreme Chevy}.

Our auto..{Asian}, has a high speed 3.0L 4 overhead cam V-6 and is a 60 degree {which is balanced via design}, is a very smooth engine.  Our trips between Pennsylvania and here {roughly 400 mi}, is done without any gasoline stops and plenty remaining at trip's end as not to have been concerned to stop for fuel.  Very adequate with road power, etc.....

I'm simply saying, for current times we live in and vehicle sizes....The V-6 design really is right in the ball park to do a great job.

Just my trivia for the morning....

PS: The 4.3L Chevy design was derived from the 350 ci {5.7L}, small block Chevy with 2 cyl's. removed making it about 262 ci.  Hence it has great torque just like the Chevy 350 did.

Joe....It would be nice if true....but there has been stories reaching back decades of "inventors" being able to produce extreme fuel mileage.  Most have not been valid.  Example:  50 plus years ago a product labled "Fish carburetor" that was to get xxx miles to the gal. and it produced very little results.  There have been countless other claims.

I'm sure fuel mileage can be made a bit better than we have now, but at what cost.  It takes so many lbs. of fuel to move weight a certain distance in a certain amount of time....

If manufactures produce vehicles that get a reasonable fuel mileage, that would certainly be very useful to all of us and the economy.  Perhaps in the low thirty figure for normal sized vehicles generally, and into the forties for smaller economy type vehicles.  In my opinion, that would be a reasonable advancement to expect and enjoy.

Quentin, you are so right about our thunderstorms. We seem to have them by the basketful, and this late in the year is most unusual. Back in the 90s, one April, the entire month was a thunderstorm warning, and with 4 towers and assorted antennas up there, it can make one take to drinkin after a while. Anyway, it is still wet, but quiet at present, so that is a good sign.

Mornin'......

Coffee only this morning.  Going out for breakfast.  Horrible weather here today - very windy and cold(30's).

Still getting used to puter - figure it is kind of like a broken leg - after the first 3 days, it hardly hurts at all.

Do like some of the "goodies", tho.  New games, new desktop goodies - ie:  learn Spanish while I watch my "virtual fish"..... which in most cases, is better than what I can find on tv.....

Later.....

Good morning everybody. 68 degrees and cloudy in Carolina this morning, on the way to 72 and more lightning until late afternoon. We had a pair of real ripsnorters come through last night and early this morning. The windows were rattling and house shook, and about three hours later, more of the same. Most unusual for November. Think I will pass on breakfast, still have a small headache from that pink eye episode and don't think I care for much, at least for a while. Everyone be careful as you go out and about.

Good Saturday morning! Mookie, thanks for getting the coffe started, I could use a cup right now. It looks like CW has not been in here yet so I will take responsibility for serving breakfast this morning. We've got scrambled eggs, bacon, pork sausage links, buttermilk & blueberry pancakes, waffles and hot maple syrup, donuts, cream filled rolls and bear claws from the local Sunshine Bakery. Chef

It's 27 degrees here in Sioux Falls right now and we are getting a slight trace of snow, I don't think it will amount to much though. Our temp today will max out a 34 degrees.

I hope the rest of you out there all have a good day!

Tom, hope you feel better later on in the day.  Maybe you'll feel like having something to eat a little bit later on.

Mookie, just in case you're still around, here's some coffee for you.

And the juice is ready, along with hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, oatmeal, toast, biscuits & gravy, pineapple, blueberries, grits, and some doughnuts and danish left from yesterday morning (haven't started getting hard yet, either) and some strawberry muffins.  And there's also a few bear claws, if anyone wants any.

It was 48 when I woke up at 6:30.  Now, our temp is down to 47, and will slowly continue to drop thoughout the day.  By 5 p.m., supposed to be down in the 30s, with some light snow falling by evening.  Rain is out of here for the time being, but more is supposed to be on it's way into the area.  Going to be a blustery day today, so will need to bundle up to go outside for anything.

Ray, looks like we worked right around each other in the kitchen, and didn't notice the other one!

Tom, I was just watching a bit of morning TV to check in on the world and saw that massive weather over you folks there in the Carolina coast area.  Noted some "boxes" of warnings too.

Your temps are sure moderate for this time of the year and I suppose that supports these kinds weather actions.

We have 41 degrees now here in central Indiana and overcast skies.  It is projected to be rainy and overcast and some cooler weather for the next few days.  Although the national weather radar didn't show much west of us just a few min. ago.  It showed the big system down over the mid east coast area.

Best wishes to all.  Oh, yes...just saw the President headed into the big financial summit in the last hour...He did stop and say just a few words.

Wish someone could say some words in this world economy that would start us in the right direction....It sure looks like we're in for the economic mess for some time.  Bummer.

Q-

I had a 4.3L V6 in my Chev T-10 and that was a superb motor.  The 4.0L V6 in my Ranger now?  Not so much!  I think it's underpowered.  I will say that it gets me along the tracks just fine when fanning though.

Been a very busy afternoon around home.  Sarah and I worked out in the backyard, doing some cleaning out back, and then we went and did a little bit of shopping.  While we were gone, Mutt was busy in the house, working on some projects for the railroad.

Here's the pizza menu for tonight:

1.  anchovie

2.  cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Hawaiian

4.  goetta

5.  pepperoni/mushroom

6.  supreme

Getting colder outside, and it was drizzle to a light rain while we were out this afternoon.  The forecasters are still calling for a light dusting of snow by morning.  Believe tonight's low is to be in the upper 20s to low 30s.  So it's anybody's guess what we'll get, if anything.

You all have a good evening, stay warm, and take care.
