....Tom, yes...the correct frequency is 146.73, as I went out to the garage to look in the truck to look on the scanner since I wrote this morning.  The freq. is still in it at that number.  This group has a 440 freq broadcast too but I really don't know if it's antenna is on the same building.  Coverage here on the 2 meter {that I hear them}, would be on a good day about 40 miles both north and south along I-69 which runs N & S of us about 10 miles west.  Then the white noise starts to dominate.  Don't know about the 440.  Have a good friend with the top license that has been in it for quite a while and gives tests for licenses.  He even has it {2 meter}, on his new Harley and late model GMC truck and car......

Your list of contacts with the {HF}, you mentioned is very impressive and must be a lot of fun when the stations are heard well enough to communicate.  The thought occurred to me over the years many times to get into it, but never did and won't anymore now.

Trouble is if I have it then have a Seizure afterwards all that work is for NOTHING.  I need the surgery to get my Epilepsy under control first then I can get my back fixed.  It sucks I talked to my Neurosurgeon on it today and he recommended this course of Action.  He will also be doing the surgery also because of my condition since I have special requirements on this.

Ed, that's what I was meaning to say. Get the surgery done to correct the seizure problem and then take care of the rest later. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough... As you well know, life is much simpler without the threat of those things hanging over you. Get it done, buddy.....

Good Thursday morning, folks.  We have fog and temps in the middle 50s this morning.  In some of the outlying areas, the temps are in the 46 to 49 degree range.  When I got the paper off the front porch, it didn't appear to be too foggy, right here in our area.

Coffee and other breakfast beverages are ready; and on the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, biscuits & gravy, bagels and bear claws; also have some cantaloupe this morning.

Everyone have a good morning, and take care.

....And it's 49 degrees here in mid America.  To be much warmer this weekend.

Going over town to an early Insurance meeting.  Have to change some of our Corp. provided Insurance program.  Instead of them providing Sup. and Precp. Drugs, now they will provide an  account for us to draw from and we select what we want {in insurance}.  And so on.....Hate what everyone is calling "choices"....making it sound so great.  Modern times and economy...yehhhh.

Mookie; please Don't mug the mail person! You never know what they have to deliver to you until after!

Somebody got a date book?  I have it on pretty good authority* that Bosshen's Birthday might be today.

She is on the road with our feathered friend, so don't know if she will see this, but Happy B-Day [bday] and happy traveling.

Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday]

Happy Birthday to BossHen!

Sunny and on the way to the upper 60s today.  Time to start XMas shopping for my wife.  I heard of a jeweler who is offering insane discounts for bringing in old gold jewelry for recycling and I'd really like to get her a nice bracelet this year.  We'll see what they have.  BTW...I can paralell the CN mainline north the whole way there (Big Smile [:D]) so we'll see what's rolling this morning, too.

Finally have the house cleaned up from all of the wedding pranks pulled by my wife's cousins.  It's amazing how nice that feels.  Thanks for breakfast and I'll be back this afternoon.

Joe, guess I'd better post something for supper, since you've already thanked me for it!  On the warmer bar tonight:

1.  beef & noodles w/sides of peas & carrots, hominy

2.  cream of broccoli soup w/grilled cheese sandwiches

3.  your choice of burgers or cheeseburgers w/your choice of fries or onion rings

Pondered all afternoon to come up with something different, but couldn't think of anything, so decided on the above items.

You all have a good evening, and take care.

(define "anything")

From Wikipedia:

Hominy or nixtamal is dried maize (corn) kernels which have been treated with an alkali of some kind.

The traditional U.S. version involves soaking dried corn in lye-water (sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide solution), traditionally derived from wood ash, until the hulls are removed. Mexican recipes describe a preparation process consisting primarily of cooking in lime-water (calcium hydroxide). In either case, the process is called nixtamalization, and removes the germ and the hard outer hull from the kernels, making them more palatable, easier to digest, and easier to process.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't care to even try it.  Too many other great things to eat out there...

Good Morning: up early today to get to a breakfast meeting.

Cloudy and 65 degrees here in Winston-Salem with no wind, might get up to 75 with a few more Fall showers.

Have a Great Day

Hominy is basically unground corn and is served as grits. I am unaware of the pretreatment process, but will accept the idea. Hominy used to be very popular in the South, and more so during the depression. I have tried it once, and that was too many times. Regular grits are OK, but not the other way.

Currently 66 degrees and cloudy in Carolina with a chance of more rain and thunder.

Everybody take care

Tom

Happy Birthday Willie!  One more year and you will be Nebraska Legal.  Gee, you get to go to school on your birthday!  You are so lucky!  Cool [8D]

Hominy - it is good.  Little butter and salt and it is good to go.  It doesn't have a bad taste - in fact it only has a slight corn taste and needs the butter and salt.  Use the yellow, not the white.  Better flavor.

Have eaten hominy all my life - I was told that way back when, they soaked corn in lye - but that was back when they had drugs in Coke.  Driver likes it over browned pork chops - then steamed together so the hominy picks up the flavor of the pork.

Trust me - it isn't as smarmy as asparagus!

Off to find some Mischief [:-,] - porcupine meatballs for lunch.  Yum!

Mook, I guess you'll be having lunch today at some place other than the Cafe then! ?
