Yes, the AREMA conference in Salt Lake City was pleasant and productive. I really enjoyed meeting Mudchicken and some other forum members. It was great to put some faces to names.

I did sit in on part of the education subcommittee meeting on Sunday and learned more about what they're up to and what they're struggling with. Quite an eye-opener.

There was so much going on, I had to make some difficult choices about where to be at any given hour. The show drew 1,100 to 1,200 people I'm told.

The two historic train stations in town are now restaurants. I tried them both, but found nothing as tempting as the offerings of the Flat Wheel Cafe. Cheers to all!

Matt, thanks for the compliment on the offerings here in the Flatwheel Cafe.  We do try our best to offer good food, and a good selection for everyone.  It's all just 'down home' cooking.

Got the warmer bar replenished with spaghetti casserole, Italian bread, and garden salads are in the cooler as well as the fridge.

Our high today topped out at 84, and we're to get down to the mid 50s by about 7 a.m. tomorrow.  Think it's going to be a good sleeping night!

You all enjoy your supper, and have a good evening.

Good Friday morning, everyone!  We have a nice temp, here in Louisville, this morning, in the mid to upper 50s, depending on where you live in the area.  It's right about 58 in our area.  And our high today will be in the mid 80s.  Very nice!

The coffee is ready, along with the juice(s), hot water for tea, and hot chocolate.  Mudchicken, would you like some hot cider this morning?

Our Friday danishes and doughnuts are out on the counter, and there is bacon, eggs, biscuits, gravy on the warmer bar.

Sarah is at work, Mutt is still asleep, so I'm the only one up and at 'em around here (except for the two cats and the doggie.).

You all have a good morning, and take care.  I'll be back after a bit.

......55 degrees this morning....Nice looking sky to start out with, and the sun is a bit lower each morning.  We all know what that brings along with it.  But our good weather is still intact.  Should get to upper 70's or around 80 today.

Another yard mowing last evening.  Looks nice again....but oh, it's getting dry.

No local detail on any RR activity as we didn't go into town last evening.   Sure do hear activity on our Frankfort line {NS}, though, especially later in the evening and night.

Muncie is a place one can hear a train {horn}, almost anytime, but one can't predict where it will be appearing.  So many entrances and exits.

Good morning CW and thanks for breakfast. We are in the midst of a squall in Carolina today. A boisterous low pressure system is moving ashore east of us and it has rained and been windy since yesterday evening. At present, 63 and gusty at the jetport and more expected today. Good weather for sleeping.... Take care

Coffee.....  It's my Friday (taking a page from Joe's book) and will get all my leaks fixed today.

That's bathroom sink, kitchen sink and frigernator, people!

Q - I love the sound of the whistles, but afraid we won't hear them much longer due to "no whistle" crossings coming to my area.  That will be a shame but probably only for me.

Nice and a little warm through Sunday, but cooler weather coming all next week.  (70's)  So will send it east as usual.

Blush [:I]  Holding mah breath cuz I saw Mr. Dan post in the general forum.  Maybe he will visit a little more often?

Oh so much mischief and so little time.  Must hurry on my way.  Very confidential but has to do with my piggy bank and a mattress.

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Hope you all had a very nice evening, and will have a very nice day today.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready, along with some hot cider; and, on the breakfast bar this morning:  blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, bagels, bear claws, bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, and some cantaloupe chunks.

Seems to be a repeat of yesterday around here:  Sarah is at work (utility person in the bowl) and Mutt is still asleep.  So far, I'm wide awake.

Our current temp is somewhere between 60 and 62 degrees this morning, going for a high again today in the low 80s.  Not too bad a day shaping up!  No rain in sight for us until maybe the middle to end of next week.  Joe, give Grandpa Happy B-Day [bday] wishes from us.

Since no one has been in most of the day, I've only made the following pizzas for tonight:

1.  Anchovie

2.  Cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Pepperoni/mushroom

4.  Supreme

5.  Hawaiian

And, I only made two large of each of them.    Home some of you do come in tonight, to eat them.

Did a little bit of walking today, for exercise,  and saw only one train.  Unfortunately, I was too far away, and did not see the engines on it, and couldn't make out any of the cars.  Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

CW - I saw enough trains for both of us.  BNSF was whizzing right along.

Joe - lots of greenies headed your way!

We about get mobbed going to the detached garage in the morning and coming back in the afternoon.  Have a couple of very persistant squirrels.  I figure a note is coming pretty soon about learning to carry a couple of peanuts whenever you open the back door.

Driver sez we have some kind of a hawk that watches all our birds eat and then culls out the sick, injured or slow ones for his dinner.  We are kind of far in town to have a hawk, but with two parks just 3 blocks away, maybe not so strange.  (wonder if he/she would like a peanut?)

Pizza good - won't have to cook tonite!

This one is stored right around the corner from my house, in the Penkse lot on 34th street.

Mookie, hawks will live anywhere there is a food supply, most mate for life.

We have a pair of red tailed hawks living in the trees at the north end of North Yard, been there about 5 years, they have a really complex nest.

With all the doves and pigeons that flock here for the grain spillage, they have a constant food supply, and as far as I can tell, they do not migrate, and are here year round.

The trains and all the automobile traffic don't seem to bother them at all.

We have had turkey vultures here for years, but don't remember too many hawks.  Find more hawks down by the train tracks.  I don't know if there is a mate involved or not, but we will watch over them if it/they stick around.

We feed turtle doves and the assorted other birdies, so this hawk probably watches our doves pretty closely.  Driver is trying to get it to eat peanuts and give up red meat....Thumbs Up [tup]

And a neighborhood cat watches over all of them. Evil [}:)]

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  We have a pleasant 65 degrees this morning, but it's a tad bit chilly outside.  Been out a couple of times on the front porch, looking for the Sunday paper, which hasn't been delivered yet.  Supposed to get up to 80 degrees today.  Yesterday, we didn't get out of the 70s.  They say that Tuesday, we'll start the day with a temp of 74, then the temp will slowly drop throughout the day.  Just heard the paper hit the porch, as I'm typing.

Mookie and Joe, sounds like you all saw plenty of trains yesterday!

Ed, that's a very good picture of the weinermobile!  We have seen hawks around our neighborhood.  Wish they'd take care of some of these pesky squirrels around here, along with the possums, rats and mice.

Coffee, juice and hot water for tea are ready; and on the warmer bar, you'll find pancakes, waffles, turkey bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs.

Think I'll get the grill started in a little bit, and grill a roast, some steaks, pork chops, chicken and burgers for lunch today.  And I'll also get started on the side dishes to go along with all the meats.

You all have a good morning, and take care.

Mornin' CW.  That warmer bar sure smells good!  I'll grab a heaping plate and lurk for a bit.  Then we gotta finish unpacking from the honeymoon.  Rumor has it that there's a sheet of chocolate wedding cake available for lunch...

Dan, welcome back!  Someone must have been peeking in the freezer!  But, yes, there is a sheet cake of chocolate wedding cake that is now thawing.  Actually, it will be available for after lunch.

And speaking of lunch, our Sunday Dinner grill out menu is now on the warmer bar.  You all have your pick of burgers, steaks, pork chops, chicken, grilled roast and hot dogs.

Side dishes:  corn on the cob, baked beans, mashed taters, green beans, grilled baked potatoes, potato salad, cole slaw, garden salad, fresh-from-the-vine chilled sliced tomatoes, and for anyone who likes them, fresh sliced cucumbers.

And, to go along with the chocolate wedding cake, plenty of homemade ice cream:  vanilla, chocolate, neopolitan, strawberry, and peach.

Ahem....Cof, cof....ahem.....chocolate cake sort of defrosted.  (good too!)  Welcome back, Dan!  Tell us where the honeymoon was - trackside maybe?  Shy [8)]

Went out for lunch and then trackside.  Thought BNSF had been sold - 45 min of absolutely nothing.  Then someone woke up from after lunch nap and they ran them to death.

Saw 3 grain trains.  Lots of colors except Ugh Orange! Saw 3162 (GP50) in Burlington Northern livery and with that spelled out on the side.  Our first time seeing it!  One grain train had 2 motors on front and 3 on rear.  Must have been getting rid of leftovers or cleaning out the yard.

Speaking of leftovers - have seen those cute turkey cookers here lately.  You know, the ones that look like they should put a big turkey in them and then put lids over them?  (Covered Coil Cars!)

Saw what I thought was a scale car.  Houston Ed showed me a picture of one that, as I remember; looked just like it.  It looked like a small yellow briefcase (railroad sized) laying on it's side, but was on the other side of an outbound and I didn't get to see it until it was down the tracks away from us.  So no markings and just a guess as to what it was.  But it was bright yellow!

And the usual obnoxious young man that went around the gates in front of a slow moving train and then showed the crew with his one finger exactly how many living brain cells he still had.  Or maybe he was proudly showing them his IQ number.....

And a 2nd young man - way too close to the tracks taking pictures.  He was trespassing on the ROW trying to get those pictures.  Made my hands glisten! (ladies don't sweat!)

Well, if you can make any sense out of this, you are my hero.

Back to watching over the cake disappearing defrosting....Kisses [:X]

No trains over the week for the honeymoon, but that's ok.  I did find a nice picture of CNWs 1385 R-1 steamer at an antique shop in Egg Harbor of all places.

If anyone wants to see pictures of the wedding they can be found here.
