Good afternoon, folks.  Cannonball, good to see you in here! When next month is your rail trip? (Sorry to say, I can't remember exactly when you and Shirl are  leaving.)  Guess my memory is failing me.

Mookie, are you enjoying the domestic goddess role?

Supper tonight is leftovers:  roast, taters & carrots, beef stroganoff, Chinese, burritos and chimichangas left.  (Getting fridge cleaned out for Mutt's spaghetti casserole tomorrow.)

You all have an enjoyable evening, and take care.

Need a cup of coffee so I can figure out some more domestic items that I need to fix!

Tree - since I quit working, Millie hardly uses any gas at all.  I think there is a trade-off in there somewhere - no income, less gas - but want to ponder that a little more. Must factor in less train watching after work, too!

Hi Paula and folks,

Just dropping by on the way home. I learned about a Belgian light desert today. It is called L'orange. Thick Graham Cracker covered with Orange Marmalade or Peach Preserves served with fresh coffee. I tried it and it was, frankly, very good. Let me know what you think

Rain expected here in the Piedmont over the next two days, good thing we got the lawn over seeded today.

Take care all,

Multitasking tonight.  Printing some tickets, filling the waterbed, even a little laundry.  It's been a bit dry lately, so I can only fill the mattress for short periods at a time.  Then the well gets to recover.

Hopefully it'll get filled all the way up before bedtime....

Get the phone numbers to the States's Attorney General's Office, and a Federal

 "No Call

List" and get your phone number blocked for those kinds of calls. (it does semi work)

Now as far as getting the "political parties" to stop calling you; please let me know.

Walt, I have an unlisted phone number and I subscribe to Caller I.D., furthermore my number has been on the Nationwide DO NOT CALL list for several months, and if these bozos knew this, they chose to ignore it.

Yesterday I signed on with QWEST (one of our local phone companies) for a bundled package which includes phone service and internet, I learned that I can get both for about $5.00 more than what I had been paying for my phone service for so long. And I think I can add Call Rejection to the features that I will be getting for not a lot of money. This package will take effect this Friday. In April of this year I signed on with NetZero for internet service, and I agreed to a one-year contract with them, and I understand that if I terminate my service with them pre-maturely it will cost me $25.00. Well, I've never been happy with NetZero's service, and there were too many technical problems with their service that were never resolved. I am determined to say "good riddance" to these people even if it costs me $25.00.

If you have "Caller I.D." and you don't recognize the number, don't answer it.

Best I can say; we have to do that quite often.

(Especially if I'm working on the model railroad or things like that.)

.....Ray....push a couple of random numbers  and hang up when you get a telemarketer call.....I've been informed it messes up any recall.

Haven't tried it but give it a try.

Or, simply lift phone off hook, {and if you don't recognize number}, return phone back down to cancel.  Don't bother to answer....

If you have signed on to the don't call number, you shouldn't be getting them in the first place....It sure did work for us.  Sign on  again.

Even though I have caller ID, I also have an answering machine.  If I don't recognize the number (and sometimes if I do!) I let the machine get it.  If they really wanted to talk to me, they'd leave a message.

An exception to the "Do Not Call" thing is if a company has a business relationship with you (ie, your telephone company can call to try to sell you a new calling package).  Not sure of the specifics, but that is something I've heard in the past.

I've usually found that if I do pick up and hear a metallic "ping" - sort of like a spring - accompanied by silence, it's a machine dialed call and I'm probably not going to care to talk to whoever finally picks up the line.

One thing I've considered before was to call back the 800 number they're calling from.  Costs 'em money....  Haven't done it though.

Ray. I did business with a real estate promotion company in Branson MO 3 times. We received good seats to the shows we liked. We attended their sales presentation. (Did not buy). Then 2 years ago, we made a deal on a 6 night vacation with Daniel O'Donnell being the highlight. They charged my card immediatley even though the vacation was several months away. About 2 weeks before, I called to confirm. Great. THen 3 days before the trip they called to tell me Daniel O'Donnell was sold out and they were changing the dates to December. WHAT? I cancelled the whole thing. They would not return my money. I called my bank. After 10 days, Capital One credited my account.

But they kept calling me again & again. Each time I told them I was on the do not call list and I did not want them to call. I filed a complaint with the FCC. Then another, then another then another each time they called. I told each caller that I was filing a complaint. Then the FCC would not accept any more complaints. I finally reached an investigator at FCC. I asked him what the status was with my complaints. He told me the complaints were on file. I asked what action are you taking with these people. He told me FCC does not take action on individual complaints and that each person is only allowed 4 complaints per violator of the "Do not call list" If the number of complaints reach a certain number, then action may be taken. IIRC in 2006, only 2 telemarketers were fined. He advised me to file a lawsuit with the attorney general of my state. About two months ago, this outfit, Grand Palace Reservations folded. They sold my name & number to another company. When they called, saying they were from Branson, I told them that Robert  passed away recently and I was sickened that they would call this number. I think it worked.

Sorry for the long post. Caller ID is only available on my line if I subscribe to all their other services that I do not need.

Don't be too hard on Madam la Mook - I've woken up at all hours and not been able to get right back to sleep, leading to a little on-line time...

Got the water bed filled, but I did end up sleeping on my sleeping bag - despite the liner, a blanket, and a comforter between me and the cold mattress, it was still cold.  The sleeping bag did the trick, though.  Best I've slept in a couple of weeks...

You could always take the path of toying with the telemarketers - like the famous situation where a callee made the telemarketer think he had called the scene of a murder and was now a suspect....

Pre-DNC/CallerID, I frequently liked to let the telemarketer get started on their speil, knowing they would probably talk for a minute or two before expecting a response, then I'd just set the receiver down and walk away.  They were never there when I came back.  I figure I did someone else a favor by occupying the telemarketer for a minute or two.

Tom - went to bed at 9 pm.  5 hours of sleep.  Bed and body (sounds like a corporation) were both stiff as a board and alarm set for 5:10 am.  So had to get up and loosen up head to toe and all points in between.

But Tom, you are right.  I do sleep around.  My puter chair, my recliner, my desk chair, in Millie (when we are train watching)  I definitely sleep the best trackside!  Even after 2 cups of coffee.  So relaxing.  Problem is, one of us needs to be awake and alert while the other one sleeps.  That's tricky.

Thought I heard they were going to ban auto-dialed spam - anyone else hear that?

Yawn....

Good afternoon, folks.  Mookie, I'm about like you this morning:  woke up around 3.  A little after 4, came to the computer, booted it up, and checked emails.  By that time, was getting sleepy again, so went back to bed and slept until 9 a.m.  (Although, feel like I could go back to sleep right now.)

About the only 'telemarketer calls' we get are the political calls wanting you to vote for whomever, and ocassionally, the firefighters fund calls, wanting a donation.  If we see a toll free # displayed on the caller ID, we ignore it, and don't even pick up the phone.

We have a pleasant temp at 12:39, 76 degrees out.  Think they said on the news, that we'll make it up to 78 by about 5 p.m.

Got some of Mutt's spaghetti casserole heated up and on the warmer bar for lunch, along with some Italian bread to go with it, and garden salad.  His casserole gets better and better, each time he makes it!  And, I guess it should, since he's been making it for about 30+ years.

You all have an enjoyable afternoon, and take care.  Joe, I've made sure there is a container of the spaghetti casserole, with bread and salad in the fridge for you, for work tonight.

That's what we do! We been promised enough "free" holidays to be away for years. Best thing is an answerphone, so you can just ignore them.

(Note: our UK Liberal Democrat party tried this telemarketing stunt last week, and they have been warned that if they try it again they could be heavily fined, for invasion of privacy)

This same telemarketer called me again minutes ago! Upon calling them back I learned their identity..........Insurance Services. They probably want to sell me auto insurance which I don't need or health Insurance which would probably be too expensive for me in the first place. The next time they call me I will tell them that my number is on the Nationwide DO NOT CALL list and I will see what their response is.
