Joe, other than having a busy day today, I've felt pretty good.  Guess working out in the yard this afternoon, helped relieve the back ache from this morning.

To those of you who wished me a happy birthday today; Larry, Dan, Joe, Tom, Walt and Paula, I say THANK YOU!! I spent the bulk of my day by myself, but that's O.K.

I went bicycle riding on our bike trail system this afternoon and a portion of the trail runs along a stretch of BNSF trackage, which at one time was part of the Milwaukee Road's mainline between Sioux Falls and Canton, South Dakota, which is South of here. There was a BNSF track maintenance crew doing some work on this trackage and they had a self-propelled crane. All this made me think of a cousin of mine, Kent Loftesness, who for years has been a track inspector for the BNSF, and prior to that, Burlington Northern.

I am at home here and I was opening my birthday mail when one of my younger brothers, Perry called me and informed me that cousin Kent had died yesterday. I asked my brother what had happened, "What happened? Did he have a heart attack?" And according to what my brother told me that is exactly what happened. This kind of spooked me because I was thinking about my cousin ony a few hours ago. The BNSF had him working in Mitchell, SD when this happened. So it looks like I'll be going to his funeral on Friday.

Ray, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. Life is so full of strange phenomena such as you mentioned. Sometimes I wonder what happened so someone, celebrity or whatever, only to hear a day or two later that that person passed away. That's something that never will be explained. Take care

Tom

Ray - My sincerest condolences.

Many people have lived a long and full life before they pass from this mortal coil.  Some leave too soon, as it appears Kent did.

Take joy from what he brought to your life.  That's the kind of memories that count.

Tom, Larry, thanks for expressing your condolences to me over the loss of my cousin. Kent was someone in my family who most of us rarely if ever saw, but I did happen to see him a few years ago when he and his girl friend came through our railroad club's exhibit during the week of the Sioux Empire Fair. I had a nice chat with him then, and I will always remember that.

I am in the habit of checking the obituaries of our local news paper every morning online, and it kind of saddens me that a lot of very young people are dropping dead prematurely. My Christian faith though tells me that God is going to re-establish his Heavenly Kingdom on this earth with the second coming of his Son Jesus Christ, and when that happens, there will be no more death, no more disease of any kind, no more crying and suffering for any reason. And I have reason to believe that this day will arrive sooner than you and I might think.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Ray, my sincere sympathy is with you and the rest of your family.  Like Tom and Larry said, remember all the good memories of your cousin, and that will help ease the loss a little bit.  None of us know when our time will come.  We just need to take one day at a time, and try to live it to the fullest that we can.

We currently have a temp here in the city of 57 degrees, and in some of the outlying areas to the northwest of us, in Seymour, Ind., they have a temp of 47 degrees this morning.  I think our high today is to be around 79, or the low 80s today.

Coffee, juice(s), hot water for tea, hot chocolate, are ready, and on the breakfast bar this morning:  watermelon chunks, oatmeal, toast, bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, and tater tots.

On the stove, in a big soup pot, is vegetable beef soup cooking, and I've made sandwiches for lunch today.   Today is the day I go back to see the surgeon, to see how my right knee is progressing.  Exactly one year ago today, I had my surgery.  Almost doesn't seem like it's been a year already, does it?

For supper tonight, would you all like to have Mexican Fiesta, or Chinese tonight?

You all have a good day, and take care of the Cafe/Diner for me, please.

Normally I don't care for Mexican food, but I have a co-worker at Wendy's who's name is Gabriella, we call her "Gabby" and she's a very nice girl. So you can count me in for Mexican dinner tonight in her honor!

I'll be on my way to see my chiropractor within an hour, and I'll be wearing one of my BNSF t-shirts in my deceased cousin's honor. I'm sure Kent would approve of that.

Careful.  As much as we respect everyone's beliefs (or lack thereof), religion, like politics, is something to be avoided here on the forum.

Hey everyone!

Back from school now, and finally I have a reasonable amount of homework.

Ray: I am sorry to hear about your cousin, I hadn't read the 50+ posts I got in my email until this afternoon.

Take care,

Well, I made it back home from my doctor's appointment.  My right knee is in very good shape; but, come Monday, I will be fitted for a brace for the left knee.  It's turned to the 'outside', toward my right knee.  So he wants to try to that for awhile, and see how it does.  Other than that, I don't have to see him again until next September.

Here's our Mexican Fiesta menu for tonight:

1.  Tacos (hard shell and soft shell)

2.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean, and beef enchilada style)

3.  Spanish rice , shredded lettuce w/onion and tomatoes

4.  Chimichangas

And we have tortilla chips with your choice of salsa, picante sauce, and con queso.

You all have a good evening, and I'll talk with you later.

Ray, Very sorry to hear about your cousin. My condolances.

Joe, glad to hear about no cataracts, keep your eyes that way.

I hadn't gone (or didn't think I needed to go) to the eye doctor for awhile and

found when I did go, I did have cataracts starting in both eyes, right one being the worst.

(I thought I was too young, wrong answer.)

After surgery and implants in both eyes, I seem to be doing fine now.....

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  It's a very cool 60 degrees here in Lou, KY this morning, and there must be a slight breeze, because it feels cooler and chillier this morning to me.   Joe, glad to know that you don't have any cataracts.

Got coffee just about ready to pour, juices are freshly made (oj and oj/tangerine, and grape juice), and ready to go.  Hot water for tea, and and hot chocolate this morning.

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage (pork), scrambled eggs, tater tots and hash browns (so you can pick which one you want), homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage flavored gravy, bagels and bear claws, and some watermelon.

Hey Mookie:  want to grab a jacket, and go sit out in the garden this morning, after the sun comes up?? I'll even bring out our coffee mugs, filled w/coffee.

Biscuits & gravy will be a great start to a glorious day. We just returned from the Black Hills. The 1880 train was using the 2-6-2T instead of the 2-6-6-2T. It can pull only 4 cars instead of 7. The 6% was a challenge. On the return, the rails were wet. Lots of sand was used. All trains were sold out that day. Had fun.

.....6%, sounds like a job for geared engines.  Wonder why some of those locations put in place such steep grades as they put the route in place years ago.....?  Was it money....Using a more circuitous route usually can ovecome such grades to get from point  A to point B.

Standing at  trackside down in Saluda N C and observing the NS steep grade of 4.7 to 5.1 is almost unbelievable for a railroad.

Good afternoon, and welcome back Bob!  It's good to see you in here.  Know you had a good time on your trip.

For this afternoon and supper tonight, here's the menu:

1.  Beef stroganoff

2.  Pork chop abracadbra

Side dishes:  corn on the cob, mashed taters w/butter, creamed sweet peas, and garden salad

Desserts:  chocolate cake, cherry pie, blueberry cobbler, blackberry cobbler, and ice cream

There are still about 125,000+ without power, and Jeff. Co. schools are to open back up  Monday.   And they have cancelled all sports activities for tomorrow night.

At least one death, and several hospitilizations have been reported, due to people running portable generators inside  their homes.

Locally the same thing happened in the Quad Cities. One reason cited was that meth-heads were stealing them right out of the driveway or patio.

The utilities have the same problem - phone in particular when they use a generator to power a local distribution frame.

Attended a gallery opening tonight which included two of daughters photos.

As I'm looking at some of the photographs (there were other art media represented as well) I could only think to myself, "I've got some that are this good, and in some cases better!"

My daughter thought the same thing when she was first talking to the gallery manager, but the manager pointed out that each picture is a representation of the artist's view.  Which means that people can look at my work and say the same thing.  So much for today's ego massage....

Gotta get ready to work on the railroad tomorrow.

Hello my friends,

I've been a way a little while dealing with a health scare.

While on the job as an Emt and trying to save the life of a man who OD'ed on heroine I was stuck in the stomach with a dirty needle when our driver took a sharp corner and my partner and I got tossed in the back.

I had to be tested and last night I got some good news that the intial test came back negative but I have to be retested in 30 days but so far so good.

I'm in the process of recertifing and I'm wondering if I shouldn't find another line of work to get into.

I didn't want you folks to think I was just being rude by not stopping in for a while I had a lot on my mind.

Be well and what ever you do for work PLEASE be as careful as possible.

Your MRRing Frined , Jess.

Please visit my Photobucket pics page. http://photobucket.com/Jesse_Red_Horse_Layout I am the King of my Layout, I can build or destroy the entire city on a whim or I can create a whole new city from scratch , it is good too be the King.

...Jess, that's a scary report.  Hope all will be well for you.

Central Indiana is still under the big dome of high pressure so the clear skies and sunshine continues.  55 degees here this morning.
