Well, good morning all. It seems that I am the first one here, so let's see what I can come up with for breakfast. For starters, there are fried and scrambled eggs, sugar cured ham slices, Sausage links, sausage biscuits with or without egg and cheese, Buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, blueberry, bran or apple muffins and some sliced cantaloupe to top things off. Naturally, hot coffee, juices and your choice of diet soft drinks. Currently 67 degrees in Carolina this A M. Enjoy your breakfast.

Since it looks like no one has been in this afternoon, guess we'll try something else for supper tonight.  We'll make this a  Tuesday Pizza Fiesta Night.

On the menu:  Anchovie, pepperoni/mushroom, Chicago style, Hawaiian, cheese, and supreme.

Got soft drinks, iced tea (sweetened & unsweetened), lemonade and fruit punch for drinks tonight.

Dan and Larry, would you guys be available to help me put up birthday decorations for tomorrow?  Know someone who has only been lurking around lately, whose birthday is tomorrow!

Good morning, again, everyone.  Well, got done with Tuesday Produce.  We only had 49 people today, instead of the usual 69 to 80.  Guess some forgot this was Tuesday.  Misted a little bit, but wasn't too bad.  They brought packets of Maxwell House instant coffee, potatoes, green peppers, salad mix,  5 lb. bags of cauliflower, loaves of potato bread and the mini bagels.    Keep hoping they'll have some cantaloupes on the truck each week, but so far, haven't seen any.

Glad I didn't grill everything I had listed yesterday; just a few of each of the meats.  Getting ready to take a round of steaks, burgers, etc., off the grill, and put on the warmer bar for lunch.  All the cold salads and other cold veggies are in the cold section of the breakfast/warmer bar, and pies are in the pie, cake cooler.

I find it interesting that a guy like Jesse Red Horse would have ANY interest in trains or railroading in general, because it has long been my understanding that the building of the railroad lines in this country played a roll in taking land away from Native Americans. I have in my possession a video program which was produced by WBGH of Boston and a couple other television stations in Los Angeles, "The Iron Road" with author and historian David McCullough. The focal point of this film is mainly the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific, but the producers spoke with a Lakota elder somewhere on one of Nebraska's reservations, and he said that every time his people would hear the sound of a steam locomotive's whistle, they would break down and cry, because their land had been taken away from them while the transcontinental railroad line was being built.

I am late this morning.  Filling in for Joe, who is off today.  Had trouble parking the forklift, but I am here now!

Tree - I have a local caboose that seems to just hang around here.  Moves every so often, but seems to like it here.  Old green and yellow one.  Must be spring cleanup in your area.

Jesse - it's what we do best in here - eat!

Good morning all. CW, thanks for breakfast. You are invaluable. Larry, good that you caught a CWR train with caboose. Here in the boondocks, we seldom see such a consist. Just through freights, usually half hidden by pine trees..... Ah well, paradise has its shortcomings! Everybody stay safe

CABOOSE SIGHTING!

On the way to work this morning I crossed the CSX tracks and spotted the tail end of a train - with what appeared to be a caboose!

A quick side jaunt to the next crossing netted me a CWR train.  At the end were all of the appropriate cars to handle laying out or picking up rail, and a bay window caboose, unoccupied.  I'm guessing it serves as an office and/or shelter for the track crew - it was marked MOW.

The cars carrying the rail appeared to be old gons with the ends and about 10' of the sides cut off and racks installed to handle the rail.

Couldn't get to the camera and didn't get any numbers...

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  No rain yet around here; guess the system has kind of stalled west of us.  So, we'll see some sunshine this morning, and may get some rain showers/t/showers later this afternoon.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Coffee just finished brewing, and have made up fresh juices:  apple, orange, orange/tangerine, pineapple and grape.

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, hash browns, bagels and bear claws.

You all have a good morning, and I'll see you when Tuesday Produce is over.

Ooh!  It all sounds good.  Not too hungry, though - after a big diner breakfast (literally) and a hot Italian sausage sandwich for lunch, I'm not terribly hungry.

All in all it wasn't a bad day on the railroad.  Our numbers (which are never high enough) were comparable to last year.  The weather was great until we were headed south on our first run.  My rain jacket was in my truck and it was raining.  Fortunately it let up in time for me to do the runaround (and WD40 the switch locks - they were a tad sticky).   On the way back it downright poured, but quit before we got back into the station, so I again dodged getting wet.

Went the same way on the second trip, and then really started to rain after we put the train to bed for the night.  Made for a wet drive partway home, then the sun came out.

We had word of a special observance by all railroads on Monday, got it confirmed, and participated.  According to our guidance, trains were to stop at 3:00 PM (local time) and sound their horns for 5 seconds.  Not sure exactly who may have participated nationwide, but word was that Amtrak was in on it, and we stopped and sounded our salute.

It looks like you've laid out a real smorgasboard of food, CW! And I'm hungry. I think I'll grab a couple hot dogs, unlike the hot dogs that I have in my refrigerator at home, these are not loaded with sodium. And I think I would have a difficult time in choosing among all the different varieties of ice cream.

I've just finished taking the steaks, hot dogs, burgers, brats, pork chops, chicken, polish sausage, taters, corn on the cob off the grill.  They're now on the warmer bar.  On the cold end of the bar, there is cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, fruit salad, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, onion, cheese slices and pickle relish and other condiments.

For dessert, there's chocolate cake, a yellow cake w/red/white and blue icing (topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries), and three cobblers:  apple, cherry and peach.  And we have plenty of ice cream:  vanilla, chocolate, neopolitan, black walnut, cherry, peach,  Snickers, Oreo and Reece's Peanut Butter ice cream.

Hope everyone has had a great day, and enjoy your  supper (I even cranked the awning over the patio, so we can hopefully stay dry tonight.

I've just taken some burgers and hot dogs off the grill, if anyone is around, and wants a light lunch.  In the cooler, there's cole slaw, potato salad and macaroni salad.  Figure a lot of people are attending parades, or visiting cemetaries, so will start the majority of the grilling around 5:30, 5:45 with the steaks, chicken, pork chops, more burgers, hot  dogs, brats, grilled corn on the cob, and possibly some grilled veggies, like red and green peppers, baked potatoes.

Been getting a few sprinkles, and a light mist, along with a good breeze every once in a while.  Nothing too bad, yet.  That'll come later on this afternoon, early evening.

Growl.....oops - I think I am hungry this morning.  Dinner [dinner]

Had 60 mph straight line winds through here last nite.  Did some damage, but not as much as there was to our neighbors north and east of us.  Just more than we are used to....

Out for day - will stop in for leftovers later.

Good Monday morning, and hope everyone will enjoy true meaning of this Memorial Day celebration:  the men and women who have died, serving and protecting this country.

Joe, I really like the special plates and cups you set out this morning!  I'm ready for a cup or two of coffee, and a doughnut.  Then, it'll be time for me to start food preparation for our Memorial Day Picnic.  I've got the steaks, chops and chicken marinating in the fridge.

Joe, I don't think we got any rain overnight, in our neighborhood; but, we have a 60 - 70% chance of thundershowers/storms later on this afternoon, evening.

You all have a great morning.

Lunch to go!  Ok - I will clean my plate then go for the dessert, Joe!  (Yum - that will be a highlight of my whole day.)

I feel like the sun today - I am in, I am out, I am up and I am down - going out for awhile.

Weather hot - in the high 80's - turned on the air.  So much for sniffing the clean outdoor air for awhile.

Back later to check on dinner/supper.....

Joe, thank you for providing dessert today!  For our Sunday Dinner, I have decided to go with meat loaf w/mashed taters & gravy, green beans, creamed yellow sweet corn, sliced red tomatoes, cole slaw, and your choice of cornbread or dinner rolls.

Good Sunday morning!  Ray, looks like you've got a great breakfast this morning.  Think I'll fix myself a plate with Canadian ham, and a cinnamon roll.  That should hold me over until everyone else wakes up.  Then, think I'll fix us some pancakes for a late breakfast, here at home.

Our current temp is in the mid to upper 50s, going up to about 82 for a high today, with plenty of sunshine.

What would you all like for Sunday Dinner?  I'm thinking either meat loaf, or maybe spaghetti & meat balls.  Or, maybe I'l lfix both, so you all have a choice.   What would you all prefer?

Good Sunday morning! It looks like I am the first one here this morning, so I will take charge of getting breakfast ready. The coffee is about done brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. On the menu for this morning we have blueberry pancakes, french toast, hot maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon and sliced Canadian ham. I also had the time to bake a pan of cinnamon rolls this morning. Chef [C=:-)]

It promises to be a warm day here in Sioux Falls, we could see a high of 85 degrees this afternoon. And there is a threat of rain.

I saw the pictures that Walt and Sarah had gotten of that Chinese 2-10-2. Nice pictures!

Hey Sarah! You shouldn't be absent from this establishment so much, we miss you!!

Neat!  I haven't seen live steam in action in years - forget whether it was at Salibury or Steamtown now, though.

I had to settle for a former BC Rail M425 - our replacement power as our usual RS-3 is still in use by another RR.  MA&N doesn't bother repainting, so the loco is still in BCR green and green.  We only had a three person crew, and the long hood on an M425 is really  l o n g , so a "fireman" is in order on our trip south.  I spent all day in the cab (when I wasn't doing ground work).

Not a bad start for the regular season.  Total passengers were down a bit from last year, but between regular old variability and gas at $4+ a gallon, I'm not surprised.

Back on the rails tomorrow.

As has been said, we got to see a Steam Engine in action today. Also, as Sarah said,

we went to the sand company yesterday to see if they had brought the steamer in for

overnight and found that it wouldn't be able to make the curves to the sand co., so

they had to pull the six gons up to the Short Line with diesels.

The six 119 ton gondolas, still in complete  sequential numerical order.

On the Short Line, getting ready to take the Old Road Sub.

Would have been a really good shot; if that utility pole and bush weren't in The Way!!

Hello everybody!! It has certainly been a long time since my last visit. I see everything is moving along as usual. CW is still cooking up a storm like always.

Weather has been pretty weird here. We have has off and on rain, muggy, and dry weather. Temps are getting up to the mid to high 70s, perfict weather for Railroading. Train volume is up and people are marking off the boards. heheheBig Smile [:D]

Walt, Paula and I had a nice treat today. We got to see the RJC's Chiniese Steam 2-10-2 make her way up the CSX Shortline and down the Old Road. Well, like Paula that was my first time seeing a live working steam loco in action! Man...that only makes me wish that I was born back in the "Glory Days" of Railroading. We drove appx 1 hr from home to HK Tower (sadly there is no more tower, only a Control Point) to catch the 2-10-2. I decided to take my CSX Radio and wear my CSX hat; you wouldn't believe how many people were asking me Where was the train. I also saw one of my Trainmasters there. Anyway...I'm glad I didn't get called to work because I would of missed out!! Big Smile [:D]Whistling [:-^]Here are some of my pics.

Trainmaster got in the way here. Laugh [(-D]

This was a shot that was taken yesterday when Walt and I out scouting the Steam Excursion at Nugent Sand

Fluff up the hammock - it has been a busy day here, too.

Went to usual Sat breakfast at local truck stop, watched for some trains - nothing going on - went to bookstore for usual Sat cup of coffee, went fishing/reading (Driver caught two bass - catch and release), I watched a guy catch two nice catfish, grabbed a burger and went trackside again, saw coal train headed Joe's way - 7 engines on headend and 1 DPU.  The first two were BNSF, the next 5 were CEFX dead in tow and the DPU was BNSF.  Have no clue where they are taking them, but it was sure fun watching it leave town.  All the CEFX engines have been through here before, so not sure if maybe they did some diesel work on them at our diesel shop or not.  Or just collected them - kinda like pretty rocks.

Kansas had tornados last nite - we had straight winds with lots of trees, limbs, and power lines down - uprooted some of the shallower trees.  I missed the whole thing.  So today we went through the same knock your hat off/then rip your hair out winds - with sun, clouds and well over the 57 we had yesterday. (about 80) Close to 90 tomorrow and I am sending it all east to all you nice people out there.  Kisses [:X]
