After spending a week with my Mom and brother (and his family) in N.C. over the holiday we are now back in IL for what promises to be a glorious weather weekend. Right now it is in the high sixties with low humidity and a few wispy clouds overhead. Thanks for getting breakfast ready CW...haven't been here for a while so hope you are doing much better these days).
I hope to get trackside today for a few hours of foaming and wish the rest of you folks a wonderful weekend.
.....I don't know the extent of damage in the Indy area yet.....Just wrote a note to our daughter in south Indy....Nasty bad weather passed over and thru there last night.
I think there is major damage in Indianapolis. I haven't had the TV on yet....That's my next move here. Reporters were reporting of roofs being blown off large buildings {schools..?}, and houses smashed and trees down everywhere....I really don't know yet.
Do know it {the nasty weather system, with tornados}, passed just south of us here.....Right on the edge of our county.
So better go see what I can find out.
To be a pretty nice day here....Overcast now and 70 degrees. Reached 91 degrees here yesterday.....What a difference a week can make.
Edit: Just checked on Indy TV news.....Reporter in skycraft {helicopter}, showing large appartment complex with 2nd story smashed and roof blown off other parts of it...flooding on parking lots....debris everywhere. Not sure of "big picture" yet.

Good Saturday morning, everyone. Nice rainy morning here in Louisville. Joe, glad you made it home safely. Hope your brother continues to improve!
Coffee is brewed, and fresh juices are in the fridge. On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties, all pork), scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, nice, thick buttermilk pancakes w/plenty of maple syrup and blueberry syrup, fried taters, bagels, bear claws, and there's some doughnuts left from yesterday morning, that are still very soft.
You all enjoy your breakfast/brunch (depending on what time you get into the Cafe), and have a great day. See you all back in here tonight for our Pizza Fest.

The wage is pretty decent too. Plus, it will only be 20 to 25 hours per week, so I'll still have plenty of time to enjoy my summer. Good deal all the way around. I'll take one of the market fresh turkey/chicken sandwiches. They are super-licious!Did you hear if it was UP or BNSF that fell over around Kearney/Aurora/Grand Island? I am tempted to say BNSF.....maybe?

My guess is that it was UP, since they go right through Kearney. However, I'm not sure.

Last I heard, Joe was in Richmond, Va......total Confederate territory; you don't think
they found out that he was from the North and detained him as a..........?!
Guess it's about time for serve you all some lunch, right? On our Friday Fish Fry menu today:
1. Icelandic cod
2. Flounder
3. Haddock
4. Perch
5. Rolled oysters
6. Jumbo shrimp
Side dishes today: corn on the cob, fries, hush puppies, baked beans, and cole slaw.
And yes, Jess, that's apple pie you smell baking in the oven. Only had one slice left, so had to bake a couple, three more, so we'd have enough for dessert today. Other desserts today: blackberry, cherry, peach and pecan pies.
Willy - the Lincoln airport (our official guage) always misses the best part. Little further into town we got 1/2 inch. (or so they say on the radio)
Quentin - Kearney is a nice large small town. Just big enough to be interesting and small enough to be still a little ruralish (is that a word)?
Jesse - had a dog similar to a Jack Russell when I was a kid - very smart dog! Very good dog for kids, too.
Looks like New York city should go out of the construction business. Maybe build things no taller than 2 stories?
A bit of trivia - our state capitol building is 400 feet tall and last I heard they won't let any buildings be built taller than the capitol. New York are you listening?
....Thought I did see {on the news}, the area of Kearney, NE did get hit rather nasty yesterday or overnight.
Trivia: The only radio station I ever picked up on my crystal set when I was a teenager back in Pennsylvania.

I missed both mostly. Don't think this one was as damaging to our trees/lines as the one from a couple of days ago.

Anybody have a towel?

2.25" at Omaha/Eppley, 1.88" at Offutt AFB, and 1.81" at home. No severe weather here at home, just a lot of thunder and some very heavy rain. The airport in Lincoln only got 0.11", so it is interesting to see how much rainfall amounts can vary over a short distance.
Good morning everyone!
UUuuMMmm, Is that apple pie I smell....ahhhh, brings back memories!
Any way, I'm into day 2 of 2 days off in a row and yesterday was a day to finish up putting the dog fence up around an acre of land so that my Jack Russell Terrorist can run free with out getting eaten by a bear up here in the woods.
Well, today is a train day, I have some final detailing to do on my HO scale layout, I made a deal with the Mrs., when I have two days off in a row she gets 1 of them for what ever she needs me to do around here and the 2nd day is mine, mine, all mine!!!!
I'm wishing you all a great day!
Happy Rails!

I better not "Freeze " when it comes too helping people in bad situations or I'd be out of a job as an EMT....LOL!
.....And our morning is at 59 plus degrees here. Possible rain sometime today, but not for a while yet. Temps to get into the mid 80's today....
Late yesterday while mowing my .65 of an acre of grass my trusty John Deere decided to stop....with just maybe 20' yet to go to finish....Acted just like it was running out of fuel. And could not be restarted...So....Waiting for service fellow to call after dearlership checks their messages this morning a few min. from now. They have a mobile service fellow that comes right to the home. I think it is the fuel pump. Hope we find out and get it fixed this morning....But who know's how busy they might be.
And....We've errands to run, etc....today. Sunshine is about to come out from behind a tree east of me and put the shine in my window here.....
Mookie, glad you didn't have any really bad stuff through the night.
I was wondering the same thing about Joe. Haven't heard from him, except for his post here the other day.
Present and accounted for. Hit west-central NE pretty hard, but don't think we had much more than rain and lots of noise.
Ah Spring!

Good Friday morning, one and all. Morning temp here this morning, right around 60 degrees F. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful morning, with the sun beginning to come up. Sure do hope our friends northwest of us are doing all right this morning, and I hope they'll be in shortly to let us know how they fared last night.
Coffee just finished brewing, and I've got fresh oj, oj/tangerine, grape and pineapple juice all in the cooler. Friday morning doughnuts, danish, bagels and bear claws are on the counter.
We are getting good, heavy rain in Sioux Falls right now, with lots of thunder. No telling what is happening futher south of here, such as places like Vermillion, and Yankton, South Dakota, and Lincoln, Nebraska.
I will be listening to a "thunder" of a different kind when I go to bed tonight. I have on a compact disk a recording of SP 4-6-2 #2472. It helps lull me to sleep and I let it play continuously while I am sleeping. I told a friend of mine about all this, and she thinks I'm a little nutty.

Sounds like Kearney and Grand Island got hit pretty hard- keep your ears up, Mook, it's knocking on your doorstep!
Thundering. Tornado watch until 2 am. I am going to bed soon, turn the fan on low and sleep through it all.
Willy - UNK huh... will have to check that out.....
Mookie wrote:Don't worry - Tree never stands out in the rain!
Nope - it always stops just before I have to go outside.....
It's probably that firefighter mentality (we run into buildings while everyone else is running out), but given a tornado watch (and especially a warning) I'd probably at least be at the windows, keeping an eye on what's outside....

I dunno, it promises to be a pretty exciting evening around here. A couple of tornadoes touched down in Kearney. Initial reports suggest that a train was derailed, UNK was damaged, and a trailer park was hit. Storms are moving east. A flash flood watch already in effect for us, and the Storm Prediction Center says that a PDS tornado watch will be issued shortly. I like severe weather, but I always hate to hear about tornadoes hitting anything other than open fields. Plus, I don't want my new $130 weather station to get destroyed by wind or hail already.
