Yes, we had a great time this morning!  And, it was the first time I can remember seeing a steam loco in action!!  I LOVED IT!!!!

Here is our menu for our SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Canadian Bacon
3.  Cheese
4.  Goetta
5.  Chicago Style
6.  Hawaiian
7.  Pepperoni/Mushroom
8.  Supreme
9.  Calzones

We had a fantastic time:  even considered going on towards Frankfort, but decided against it.  Kind of glad we didn't, because my left knee and legs are mighty tired and achy from this morning.  The sunshine was great, and the sky was gorgeous, as well as all that steam coming from the engine.

It rained yesterday off & on all day in Albuquerque. We drove up to Sandia Crest looking for a break in the weather. We turned back 1/2 mile from the top due to 3" snow on the road & still coming down. Today is nice again. I got a pic of the railrunner today. For lunch I had the biggest frybread around. Monday we start the rafting & the steam train rides. Life is good.

Thanks much for serving breakfast, CW. I have a pretty good appetite this morning and I'm hungry.

I had an e-mail from Sarah yesterday afternoon and she told me that she and you and walt would be going out to take a look at the Chinese built 2-10-2. As much as I like steam power, I wish it were possible for me to be able join the three of you in this little adventure.

I sometimes think that it would be nice if a bunch of us could get together somewhere, meet each other face-to-face for the first time and spend a weekend just watching trains. I am living on a fixed, very tight budget and for that reason it is difficult for me to travel right now, but otherwise I would have no problem with getting on a plane to meet a few other members of this particular forum.

It's been raining here in Sioux Falls and right now we have a temp of 51 degrees. I kind of wish that I didn't have to go to work later this morning, but at least I am earning a pay check.

Well, I hope that the rest of you folks out there all have a good day!

Good Saturday morning!  I know, I'm in very early for a Saturday.  But, we're getting ready to go out and watch trains, and I wanted to make sure you all had breakfast.

Coffee and juices are ready to go, and on the warmer bar:  turkey bacon, pork sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, cinnamon rolls, bagels and bear claws.

Cannonball, I am feeling a little bit better each day.  And I'll be sure to give Walt & Sarah your greetings.

Sorry to be the barer of sad news but you all need to hear it.....................

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.

Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on
half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly mother, Pop Tart.

The funeral was held at 3:50 for 20 minutes.

If this made you smile for even a brief second, please rise to the occasion and take time to pass it on and share that smile with someone else who may be having a crumby day and kneads it.

Ray, here's a couple of doughnuts and a couple of danish for you.  Maybe that'll hold you, until I get lunch on the warmer bar.   Glad your power is back on!  It definitely is no fun, having no electricity in your house!!

On our Friday Fish Fry menu today:

1.  Catfish
2.  Icelandic Cod
3.  Crab Cakes
4.  Haddock
5.  Halibut
6.  Perch
7.  Salmon Patties
8.  Jumbo Shrimp

The usual side dishes of:  corn on the cob, baked beans, fries, hushpuppies and cole slaw, along with the regular list of desserts:  chocolate cake, and the following pies:  apple, chocolate, cherry, peach and pecan, along with some blueberry pies.

Good morning! It took me a while to get in here. I was just waking up at roughly 5:30 this morning when I heard a loud BOOM!! There was a power outage in my neighborhood and my entire block was out of power. You don't realize just how dependent you are on electricity until you are suddenly without it. I couldn't fire up the computer, and I have a cordless phone which became useless as there was no power to the base unit. I had to go over to Howes Oil Company where I work part time to get myself a cup of coffee, and I did this twice. The power here was finally restored at 9:00. I kind of figure that maybe a squirrel had gotten himself fried. X-Cel Energy had to replace a transformer a block south of my house. The Police Department had 14th Street blocked off and were routing traffic going in both directions around my block. It was a little out of the ordinary to look out my front door and see big semi trucks rolling past my house.

Any rolls or donuts left? I'm a bit hungry this morning.

....Good morning all:

For those who haven't noticed the thread:  "My dream come true"....check it out....A live video cam over in the Netherlands.  Set up, is at a big intersection and a multi track railroad....And as I said it's live...!....With good audio...!  And it's streaming video...{not jerky},  with really a sensitive mic.  My first visit last night was great.  Believe it was about 3 or 4 in the morning over there and I caught 5 trains in a bit over a half half hour of watching.   Some going rather fast.  Shorter trains than we're running...Counted 35 cars on one.

A bit later, I caught it getting daylight....Must have been rising on to 6 am there....Check it out.

Clouds here and 56.8 and some light rain in Indiana but we're to be having good weather here and for us to head east and the long weekend....Hope it holds.

J...You'll get in a good rhythm of up and down soon and get that good night's sleep.

Edit:  Just jumped over to the cam in Europe and saw 2 passenger trains in less than 5 min....!!  You can go and watch other threads and continue to hear the video cam audio, and then switch over when you hear the crossing warnings for a train coming...!

Click on camera one....

Good morning, Jen!  Hope the light didn't bother you, when I flipped on the light switch!

Getting the coffee pot turned on, and I brought in the Friday Morning doughnuts, danishes, bagels, bear claws.  Now, to put on water for hot tea, and make fresh oj for this morning.

Mookie, would you like to go out on the patio, or in the garden, with your coffee and breakfast?  Maybe that'll relax you enough to take a Zzz [zzz], and I'll make sure everyone keeps the volume of noise down in here.

Creaking open the door.

Had to get up - cramp in leg.  By the time you get it uncramped, you are wide awake.

Rain overnite and watching radar - we may get some more yet this morning.  Driver wants to go fishing, but not sure we can much before afternoon when this should all blow past us and go east.

Will wait patiently for someone to turn on the lights - it's dark in here - altho the glow from Dan does help me see....

(Q - old habits die hard - bed at 10 - wasn't tired, up at 5 - wasn't tired.  Might as well go back to my 8:30 to 3:30 routine!)

....J:

No, the black birds aren't that kind....The robin pulls it out of the ground and prepares to eat or take it to the nest and bingo....then the black bird comes and lifts it away from the robin.

On the bird subject....We believe our below normal temps are hindering the operation of the Humming birds.  Just read in the book they cannot fly when their body temp is below a certain number.....86 degrees.  Their appearance at our feeder has been sporadic at best....It did warm up to 70 today and it's to be getting somewhat warmer...Mid 80's next week....So expect to see them more consistently.

Have the feeder right on the window glass of the family room door facing the back yard and golf course and my La Z Boy is right inside where I can really see them when they come to feed.

Jen, speaking of robins....The past few years we see them {2}, will be worm hunting and one will get close to the other and zip, they both fly straight up like a helicopter and "fight" for a second or two and then go back to food hunting.  This seems to be a pattern just in recent years.....So maybe they need the excerise.

Headed to the east land Sat. morning and will return sometime next week.

Here, in near by Indy....the hoopla has started.  The congregation of 10's of thousands of fans at the Indy 500 raceway.  Campers from all over the country have already arrived in the massive parking area around the famous track and the fans that make this annual pilgrimage are settled down in their motor homes...tents....campers of all kinds and it will be one continous party until at least the day after the big 500 on this coming Sunday.

Everyone have a good holiday.

Yeah Mooks - Ma Nature did a little instant urban renewal up north. She must have really been on a bender 'cause this thing was a swarm of tornadoes (6 at a time wandering around for an hour in Northern Colorado....Windsor seems to have taken the worst of it.)

Blew a whole string of ethanol tank cars off the track. OmniTrax Great Western and BNSF get to figure out how to re-rail-em... Local on BNSF with grain hoppers also blew over.

not a good day up there....

Mookie, grackles are definitely UGLY. I once clubbed one to death with a golf club, many years ago. It had already been injured by a cat or something.

Brian (IA) - been there, done that.   Recommend you stay away from the potato salad, except in the diner.  That is NO fun.  Ugh.  Just proves we are very sensitive people.  (everyone else has an upset and burps and it goes away - they hospitalize us!)

Dan!  Do we need to put you in a "quiet room"?

Well, ran all our errands, went to the park and did some bird watching.  Had my bi-no-culars and my bird book.  Do you know that Nebraska has tons of birds and none of them are anything but the ordinary ones.  We have nothing all that unusual.

We watched 3 Baltimore Orioles (are they really from Baltimore?) 2 males and 1 alluring female.  Nasty business with the males!  And....I found out that we don't even have blackbirds.  We have grackles!  I always thought they were blackbirds, but our blackbirds are red-wing and yellowheaded!  Duh, dummy me!

So Q - the robin was going for the worm and the grackle came and took it away and dug it up!

Watch for feathers in the air - hear Denver had a tornado just north of city.

M.

Hi all, been out of touch the last couple of days since they don't provide computers for leisure use at the hospital.  It all started when I got very sick Tuesday evening and had Joanie take me to the emergency room at 11 PM.  Doc thinks it might have been a bout of food poisoning.  I'm back home now, but I think I'll take it easy for a couple of days.

Maybe I should patronize the Flat Wheel Cafe more...

Sorry I haven't been around this afternoon, everyone.  But I'm back, and I've got supper ready, including Joe's container for work tonight:

Lasagna w/garden salad, garlic bread, oven roasted potatoes and

leftover vegetable beef soup w/cornbread from yesterday.  (Seems I really made a big batch of that yesterday!)

Joe, very glad to hear that the girl in the car wasn't hurt.

Dan, are you all right?!?!  What happened to you?!?!?!?!
