....C W: Hope you are doing the rehab well and healing is coming along fine.

Sounds like we all got rid of the nasty high humidity and heat.  Our low temp here this morning was 49 something.  Will be cool today and then we're to get to mid 60's or 70 over weekend.  Then the comment from local weather folks was something like....We will be around "normal" avg. next week, etc...

Overall, the outlook for our Winter is warmer than normal avg. and perhaps a bit wetter.

Have a yard stick of how dry our Summer season has been....Last season I mowed 60 times......Up to this point in time, this season, the figure is now 35...!

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  It's nice to be back in here this morning.   Mookie, we even got down to 48 overnight/this morning!  Very cool in the house.  Joe, thanks for making the coffee!

I've fixed a little bit of breakfast (regular menu fare), and it's on the warmer bar.  Help yourselves, and everyone have a great day.

Don't have NORAC readily available for the moment.  Don't think it's banned as such.  We normally don't push this particular run, but our other trip has no place to run around the train.

.....Tree:  What actually is the rule book ruling on "pushing a passenger train"....?  I understand it's seemingly done all the time with push...pull operations but....I thought that pushing....was not permitted for some decades now.  Something about a bad accident some years ago had changed this...??  Not sure where or just what.  You might comment....

Good morning-

I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. I baked a couple pans of cinnamon rolls this morning and they are sitting here on the counter. I also brought in a pretty good assortment of rolls and donuts from the local Sunshine Bakery. Chef [C=:-)]

It's a bit cool here in my hometown, 42 degrees here in Sioux Falls and our maximum temperature will top out at 51 this afternoon. It's definitely jacket weather here, but I don't mind the change. It's nice compared to the blistering heat and the high humidity that we have encountered this past summer.

Yesterday morning I opened a savings account with the credit union across the street from my house.........I will use this savings account to help fund a vacation trip to Canada in the next two or three years. My goal is to be able to book a week long tour through the Canadian Rockies with the Royal Canadian Pacific. I will try booking this trip through one of our local travel agents and maybe I can save myself some money in the long run.

Well, I hope all of you out there have a good day!

Ray

Q - yes, those are ours!  And to the nay-sayers - see!  Advertising does work on cars!  Big Smile [:D] We have both Lincoln Grain and ADM right here in town, surrounded by neighborhoods!

Cannonball, my Dad used to have to eat in those places and said most of them were so filthy he would pack a lunch from home and eat on the engine rather than go in them.  No McD's back then.  And no refrigerators, so those minced ham sandwiches spent several days unrefrigerated and no one died from eating them (that we know of, since he did share them once in awhile with a hungry hobo.)

Tree - I have been talking to Houston Ed about having to walk a train for broken air hoses - I still don't know how someone manages to walk a 120+ car train.  That boggles my mind.  (Murphy's law - the break would be the 3rd car from the end!  Sorry Murphy....)

We are upgrading our puters and system here at work and it will be so much better than just a very few years ago.  That just doesn't compute that you still have to do some things that are so hard, manually.  I guess that is why we have stoop labor for some crops - it is the best way.  But still....

Dan - yum....and yes it is hot and humid in the house and raise your fur cool outside.  Shoulda slept on the porch!  Guaranteed new neighbors up and down the block for sure!  Laugh [(-D]

Quentin; I try my best ,   Those beanerys were no Harvey House .They catered to the folks who worked for railroads. The cafe in WCH was a real hoot in the winter time, steamey windows wipedoff somewhat with a wad of rags to see outside . I never knew anyone was interested them.  1947 rail era , I know , to borrow a phrase ~~~~ I was there. By todays standards they would be torn down and burned. In my younger years spent time there .    Long live PRR & N&W .   Respectfully , Cannonball

Tuesday?  Already?

After three straight days on the railroad (staying overnight so I wouldn't have to drive two hours each way), I did drive back down on Monday.  Cool, drizzly - kept the leaf peepers home, for the most part.

Five cars were a bit taxing for the ol' Geep on the wet rails (with leaves as garnish), so we pushed back up the hill on our first "long" run - with me calling clear track from the lead car (the engine, of course being at the back of the train) for ten miles.  Had several passengers in the vestibule with me, and those with video cameras were getting a rare treat indeed, usually only experienced from the front porch of the locomotive...

The next run we left two cars at the station, so it was business as usual.

But it was a long weekend.  Makes me appreciate what folks like Houston Ed do day in and day out.

Duff, your menu sounds good for tonight!  I'll take a couple of brats, and some potato salad.  Do you also have any baked beans and grilled "baked potatoes"?

Went to the surgeon this morning, for my post op visit.  He wasn't too thrilled about how the incision looked; so, he cut some of the worst scabs off, and put on a couple of band aids, and told me to come back in three weeks.  (Tuesday, Oct. 30th).  Will finish with home therapy sessions this week, and then will go for rehab.  Don't know where, yet.  Guess I'll call the office tomorrow, and see if they know yet, where I'll be going.

Did not take any pain meds before I went.  That was a BIG mistake.  Took two when I got home, and slept for about an hour.

Guess that is all my news for now; so, you all take care, and have a terrific evening!!

Morning folks!  Willy whatever you did to the weather machine it worked: it's about 57 F right now and not supposed to go more than 10-12 degrees warmer.  Might have to chase the WSOR today, depends on lawnwork.  I'll be back later...

.....Just a bit of trivia for J:  Several evenings ago as Jean and I checked a west bound on NS {Frankfort Line}, we noticed several covered hoppers labled:  "Lincoln Grain Inc.".....Of course wondering if they belonged right in J's territory of Lincoln, Ne....?

SactoGuy188 I remember the ( beanery) very well in Washington Courthouse Ohio . It was called Railroad Cafe , right off the ROW on Rt.35 .The Depot was across the street ( PRR)  The diamond was there too north bound ,tracks ran next to the cafe . When a north bound came by you had to hold onto your plate & tin ware, the ground really shook . N&W had a coal run there . Those Y 6 Bs could shake the ground nicely. The place smelled of valve oil & journal grease.   1947 railroad days, goodeats too.

Good Monday morning, everyone!  Nice outside right now, but looking for a high of 94 today.  yuck!

Happy Birthday Happy B-Day [bday] Big90Mack, and welcome back!

For your lunch today, you find open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, green beans, corn, and your choice of garden salad or cole slaw, along with tuna salad sandwiches and your choice of fries or onion rings.  Still keeping things on the light side (at least as far as fixing food goes for me, right now).

Along with coffee, got plenty of iced tea, lemonade, fruit punch and Gatorade ready and in the cooler and fridge for everyone.

Yeah, I think it would be fun to spend Thanksgiving up in Canada, for me that would be a little different than what is considered the norm in my family. I had been up to Calgary, Alberta in July of 1979 for a convention with the National Model Railroad Association, and I found the Canadian people to be so warm, friendly and hospitable that I have always been looking for an excuse to go back. And maybe I will do so in a few years with a rail tour of some sort.

Hot chocolate maybe in a few days here still dealing with 90 degree heat during the day.  I will take any Ice tea or water however.  Also looks like I will be moving closer to some better action again right now living on the old Alton route and basically only see Amtrak get to see the good stuff when I see my folks.  I am thinking of taking the family on a sleeper trip out to the Grand Canyon in 2 years when the little one is walking.
Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.

Good morning folks! I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. There is also hot chocolate out on the counter for anyone who might want it.

I am serving sort of a continental breakfast this morning, with a big assortment of rolls and donuts from the local bakery.

It's 48 degrees here in my hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and it has  been raining here off and on for the last several hours. We had pretty good thunderstorm late yesterday afternoon.

Last night I was looking at the web site of the Royal Canadian Pacific. I am considering putting away money in a savings account so that maybe in a few years I can book a week long rail tour with the Royal Canadian Pacific out of Calgary. I think the Canadian Rockies are every bit as pretty and majestic as the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and a trip like this would give me something to look forward to, even if I must wait a few years.
