It sure does! You sucked me in, and I fell for it!
Come and get it! Hot off the grill!
Good afternoon everyone, it was supposed to be sunny today, but instead it is a cold 36F, cloudy, with flurries in the air at times. Now I know why!!!!!!! The Mariners are in Boston, they bring snow!!! They just left Cleveland buried with 4 cancelled games, now there're here in MA.
RYAN: I cleaned one mower deck, the 36" for the smaller lawn tractor, just yesterday, but the gras has barely turned green, it just isn't growing at all yet. So today I have cut some brush up back, 4 trees, so wood supply for next season is all set. We have 4 cords all stacked already anyways, so what I cut today is for 2008 season. I think with the big rainstorm coming tomorrow, I will finally get some time in the Train room.
GARRY: That is one beautiful scene !!! I can just imagine sitting on your deck checking out this sunset.
DER JOHN: Looks like Rain now for your Friday, not snow, so get your rain barrels ready, it may be a long hot , dry Summer.
SUE: Thanks for info on the Evergreen trees. Have you tried cutting branch ends to make trees? Using the same treatments that you do with Butterfly bush flower ends? The spray should preserve the greenery.
PC: To music....." I am a lineman for the county....and I work the main line." Through rain and snow and sleet, we deliver....ohhhh, wait a minute, that is the Postal Service...lol
Later guys,
Afternoon Gang:
Ryan: I'd like to show pictures and a report but I'm still unable to E-mail. Peoplepc still doesn't recognize my name or pass word. In 2 months I still haven't been able to get ahold of them. I'm still trying to find a high speed hook up.
I haven't been down to the basement today. I'll have a go at it later. I have an appointment with the dentist at 2:45pm to replace a crown. It came off while I was eating a french fry.
I'll say so long for now and try and get in later.

Thankfully, I'm a desk jockey. I don't have to face the elements. Unfortunately, being in the position I'm in, when heads roll, mine is right there on the chopping block. Oh well, it keeps me jumpin', huh?
Good afternoon......... Still thinking of Luc and Gloria, any updates? ...and Trent, you okay? .......also, RT, get back with us.
Der, Ryan, Cox, Dick,........ thanks for the remarks on the sunset picture. We see that each night (unless it's clowdy of course). The deck is a good spot to view the lake while reading Model Railroader. The picture was off the lower level (walk out basement to some). The view from my tool room is the same. When I face the table saw, the window is behind me. Our next door neighbor is Uncle Sam. He owns the lake (man made). The sunset is over Land Between the Lakes (national park).
Mother nature took down some trees last year for us to open the view. Last year's tornadoes were too close for comfort. High winds took down trees and rattled our windows enough to frighten anybody. Just east of us, twin F3 tornadoes (side by side) cut a mile wide path injuring scores of folks while destroying homes. They went all across the next county. Nasty stuff.
One negative of our view is I don't watch freight trains. Instead I watch barge traffic.
Der .......thanks for sharing the trees. Are you modeling a branch line?
Ryan......... thanks for the WSJ link. I believe railroads continue to be a solid investment for retirement. P/E ratio for Burlington Northern Santa Fe remains at a comfortable level (17.4% trailing). Long term, railroads will gain market share from trucking due to fuel efficiencies.
Philip........ does working for phone company result in any hang ups?
Cheers everybody

Gerry, technically, I think working for the phone company "is" a hangup!

Bingo! That's the place. It does not have anymore Life-Like power loc track that I use. found that out Saturday.
Layout update: Sunday. I changed my my layout so I could use some of my poster board scenery. I had to tear up track and relay it so A. I can use my poster board yard (engines only). B. different switching oppurtintues. and finally less chance of stepping on rolling stock.
On my 7x7 footer my one main yard was at the foot of my bed. (not the best place for a yard at night) now the main yard is inside the main line and farther away from were my feet hit the floor in the morning. (Thats a great thing)
RRdude update; well PC I think you could help him. His phone is about as broken as a N scale engine after being hit by a 1.1 scale SD70. and for a while every one, even his parents didn't know it was broken. So after a week and a half of calling My mom and I want to visit him. Alex was not there but his older sister was and she gave us her mom's celly phone #. and they don't know what's wrong with it.

Good evening everyone......I am one sore man tonight....between the chainsawing and raking 50 quadtrillion leaves, my back is real tired at the waistline, as well as MRR knees. I would have just burned the leaves in place, but they are all around and under the nice evergreen trees, so I had to get them well away before I torch them.
COLBY: The last time I was at that LHS, it was called Maine Trains, and there was one guy running the place. From what you say, and the name change as well, it seems like it is under new ownership?
PC: Yes, desk jobs are a liability these days.....just keep changing your office, they won't know where to find you.
RT: The stress test should give them a real good input on the health of your heart especially your arteries supplying blood to the heart muscles. Better eat your ice cream now, it may become a no no soon.....hopefully not.
JP: Red Sox 14, Mariners 3 !! Home opener, Josh Beckett did real well !! The batters had fun also.
ED: WHERE ARE YOU ?????? GET OUT OF THAT ORANGE GROVE !!!
Later,
rtraincollector wrote:Well they just called and they have changed it from a nuc stress test to a type where I run on the tread mill and then they take x rays of my heart to see if its still beating lol.
Exactly what do they expect to find? I'm guessing that it will be beating?
Colby,
Unfortunately for you guys, I'm not a field tech and I don't do residential service. To much of a pain in the backside. I do buisiness service. The largest portion of my buisiness is specializing in hospitals and their switching needs. Thats why when my customers lose their service things get real hairy real fast. When my customers lose service people could literlly die. Because of that I tend to be kind of hard core about my work.
grayfox1119 wrote: PC: Yes, desk jobs are a liability these days.....just keep changing your office, they won't know where to find you.
I'm not worried about that too much. There's very few people who do what I do. The only thing is, being the head of my dept., when there's problems or questions they come looking for me. Now I don't mind if they do that, I can handle them just fine, but I'd much rather have it solved by the time they know it exists, ya know?
Evening, Cleo, since Mother's not home and PC's buying, I'm [passing on on DER's hotdog] think I'll have the prime rib n lobster with all the fixings, coffee and a barley pop.
I was going to say something, but thought better of it since your buying supper.
Had kids todays [and tomorrow too], so not much of anything's been done other than the trains running several scale miles on the layout.
I see a few made some progress on their layout n such, and Sue got a new SHAY to play with [got to get me one of those]. Here's were I'm at on mine,
I've got a long way to go before it looks like much, I know.
GARRY, that pic was great, looks like the Ohio river.
RT, hope things go well with the tread mill, I've never had one of those, but I'm sure you'll come out ok.
best get round Mother's gone this evening and if I want some play time, need ta get a couple things done, hope ya'll has a good night

Chloe, make sure Mike gets a piece of pie with that meal, will ya? Thanks!
Evening Gang: I got the crown reinstalled no problem. After that I went next door and got a hair cut. I figured that since I was in town I'd pick up the engine for my 7.5 inch gauge locomotive and stop and wash the truck. It's been covered with mud on the lower parts for a couple of weeks and I got tired of it. When I got home the weather was so nice that I took the engine down to the shed and did some more cleaning up of the lumber pile. Tomorrow I'll finish loading the dump trailer and put the rest of the trash in a pile for loading after I dump whats on now. That will all be done Saturday during the countys spring clean up day. I get to dump as much as I can haul for free. Since the county barn is only 1 mile from me I can do alot of dumping. They also let me haul stuff up there until they have hauled all the stuff off, so I'll haul for a couple of days next week also. Sunday I'll go out to Johns place and help him with the crossings for his railroad. Gee I'm busy for being retired.
Well I guess I'll head for bed. Good Night All.
Good morning

Woke up to raindrops on the roof, thrill, got a chance of rain through Sat. Maybe I'll get in some train time anyway. Tried to work on the B mainline some last night, but found I'm short a switch. I'm sure I bought enough, but darned if I know where it's at, guess it's time for another trip to Joe's.
PAUL, times can sure get busy when your retired, seems there's always something needed done.
Needs ta get ta chores, got kids today, might be a long one stuck in the house. Today will be my last one getting the kids at 7:30, Pats starting a new job and will drop off the kids at 5:30, hopfully they'll go back to sleep. Ya'll have a gooden n stay dry
Well Good Morning All
My bags are packed and I'm ready to go...
I Know don't give up the day job. Well I'm off to sea today and by the sounds of it I will be gone fro 28 days. BUT! I also hear the ship has a new Internet system so whether I can log on or not remains to be seen. I will still have e-mail capabilities. I have packed lot of train stuff and tools so here's hoping I get a chance to sit down and play.
Anyway everyone take care and stay healthy!

Morning all!
Luct...... glad you're here. Gloria doing better now?
Fergie........ sounds like an interesting job to me. Perhaps you've told others, but I'm still relatively new here. I'd be interested in learning more about that.
Happy Model Railroading, everybody!
How's everyone doing this morning?
It's a wet one around here! All kinds of rain!
Got my daughter with me at work today. She wanted to come hang out and do lunch with me today, so, why not? Sounds good to me! How many teenage daughters actually WANT to hang with the P's?
Got a doctors appointment tomorrow, so I don't know how much I'll be here. It should last most of the day. I think they want to make sure I'm still breathing. I assured them that I was, but I think they want to see it for themselves. They're no fun!
So what's going on with you guys?
Jeff, you got all of your wiring done. Did you start in on the scenery last night?
pcarrell wrote:Jeff, you got all of your wiring done. Did you start in on the scenery last night?
Good morning everyone: Bright sunshine for today, and most welcome too. Cool though, as there was a lingering frost when we got up, and ice on Rosie-the-dog’s water bowl.
Kris is off to New Glasgow for the day, so I’m holding the fort. If museum stuff doesn’t get in the way too much, I may get some work done on the cookie box that’s meant to be a factory, the last one on that industrial estate. (Didn’t do anything yesterday Ryan. )
Garry: Here’s a probable cause for your good fortune in the RR stocks. Some folks like reading Warren Buffett's annual letter for his folksy humor and business sense... but most folks read it to see what the world's greatest living investor is buying. This year was a disappointment: He wouldn't say. He listed all his company's investments, save two... "because we continue to buy them. I could, of course, tell you their names. But then I would have to kill you." The veil was lifted on April 6. Berkshire Hathaway announced it bought 39,027,430 shares of railroad operator Burlington Northern Santa Fe (NYSE: BNI), more than a 10% stake. Berkshire's position has a market value of close to $3.2 billion. Shares of Burlington gained 6.5% on the news. According to CNBC, the other undisclosed investment is also a railroad company.

You asked with a if I was modeling a branch line. LOL! However, since there’s lots of folks who weren’t over in the old Coffee Shop, here’s an explanation of what I think I’m up to.
It’s a freelance go at railroading in the Canadian Maritimes, with CN as the Class 1 hauler, but the tracks are my fictional “Maritime Trunk” – The “MT” (Service is an MT promise)…so there will be (when I’ve got around to painting them) a variety of leased power besides CN, and Via Rail (one train, the consist based on the Via run up Nova Scotia from Halifax to Sydney, Cape Bretton.) The MT runs its own passenger service as well, mainly because I like to see passenger trains. Otherwise, the era is meant to be more or less today.
I have a removable fiddle yard that serves my interchange, and that gets whole trains on and off the layout. I’ve used different coloured ballast to show the two lines, but the fiddle is as yet unsceniced. I doubt the red ballast is prototypical for anywhere around here, but maybe it came from Prince Edward Island!
To answer very quickly for Fergie, who may not get online today, he’s with the Canadian Coast Guard, (a First Officer I think, but he can set me straight on that.)
Dick: so get your rain barrels ready, it may be a long hot , dry Summer.…We have two in the basement with water from last year. They are “Power out” emergency loo flush water tubs, and yes, we did have to use some! The others are out in the shed, and will be put in place in due course. A bit early yet, I hope!
so get your rain barrels ready, it may be a long hot , dry Summer.
Paul: It came off while I was eating a french fry.…isn’t that weird how that seems to happen on the most innocent looking of foods? I cracked a piece off a tooth on something that I eat all the time, but that day…
It came off while I was eating a french fry.
RT: Glad they aren’t going to zap you, but all the other stuff sounds at the least inconvenient! All the best for a clear report.
Colby: Good to hear you’ve traced the fault in Alex’s line! I was wondering if you would go over to see if he’s still around.
Mike: Thanks for the shot of the layout. What’s that round thing by the power pack? Are you storing natural gas in there?
Fergie: Bon Voyage! Fair winds, my friend. It’s been a while since you put to sea.
Janie, I’ll have a small JR Regular, while I wait for my own to brew in the real world.
