Inch, Thanks for sharing the photo of your layout, but what is the white and black thing with the smile?
Jeff, I am excited for you to get to this stage. Wait until you get your first sprinkle of green down. On our layout, we have to finish the landscape in the corner in order to complete the line to the logging camp.
Dick, Yes, I tried to cut some branches to make larger trees. Upon close examination most of them had a slight curve. So I cut stumps out of them and some I saved for log loads. I used a file on balsa for large fir trees, and I carved cedar for large cedar trees. I have yet to find anything that I like to emulate branches on cedar trees.
Paul, I am glad that your trip to the dentist was uneventful.
Philip, So you took your daughter to work with you. Does she enjoy spending layout time with you? Running a sound loco should hook anyone.
Yesterday, Larry got another section of track cleaned and tested, so I am heading into the train room to see how the Shay likes it. I have a few stages on a retaining wall for the scratch built tunnel project that I need to attend to so.........

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

She likes going to work with me (I think she likes the insanity of it!), but couldn't care less about trains. I run N scale smaller steam, so there really isn't any sound to play with......yet!

Yes it's under new ownership and LHS what's that mean? LHS here in lewiston means Lewiston High School (which I'll be a freshman at next year) You should come up here and see for your self.
Also today I got a letter from the 'Who's Who Among Outstanding Students in America' (A division of the American Who's Who Association) .apperently I've been invited to be featured to be in the 2006-2007 edition of 'Who's Who Among Outstanding Students in America'. It's a 500+ page hardcover book which recognizes the accomplishments and achievements of outstanding students in nationwide. Who excel in
Academics
(probably not the reason why cause last time I made honor roll was first quarter this year and before that it was 3rd grade which I made honor roll)
Athletics
(maybe cause of my swimming and-or baseball. been playing it scence Kindergarten)
and get ready for a BIG word: Extracurricular activites in and out of school
(volinteering and the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad, and the YWCA)
only a Z scale % of students in the nation are considered for this honor, and if I am selected to receive a scolarship to a collage of my choice. That's IF am accepted to be in the book, and if I am I qualified for CONSIDERATION of a scolarship.
Colby
Hello.........
Tossed salad for me. Glass of water, too.
Der ..... thanks for details on your layout. It was interesting to me. I suspect others too will like it. I like the scenery, too. I'll have to get back to eastern Canada someday. I recall the granite rocks but not the blue flat stuff. I must not have paid attention. .... As for BNSF stock...... I bought it about 5 years ago and have been holding. I'm more than pleased with it. It's not my only "pick" where I bought ahead of Warren Buffett bought shares. He buys more than I do, however.
Everybody......... thanks for sharing you stuff.
Happy Model Railroading.

Good Evening, Zoe - since RT’s buying, I’ll have a roast beef sandwich with some juice over it, open face style. Thanks!Weather here in Cape G. today has been windy, but we got into the low 60’s. Sun kind of came and went behind clouds. No major rain so far, but that could change tonight or tomorrow. Not supposed to cool off as much tonight - upper 30’s predicted. Supposed to actually get some rain by Friday.Goodness, but Luc was in early today! Luc, did Glo grab all the covers and wake you up early? What’s the latest word on her progress, by the way?Paul, looks like your dentist trip went well - got to watch out for those french fries, huh? I never would’ve figured one of those would mess with someone’s teeth. That’s a pretty good deal on the spring cleanup in your area. Around here, the city has a Wednesday in the spring when you can put anything big out at the curb (like fridge, oven, couch, etc.). A lot of people take pickup trucks and go around early in the morning, finding others’ stuff that the owner didn’t want (but the pickup truck folks do). Probably saves the city some money that way! But still not as good a deal as yours. It does almost sound like work to me, too. You sure you’re a card-carrying ROF?? PC, you know it’s so much ‘easier’ at work for them to run something until it breaks, rather than stop and get it fixed before that. Hey, tomorrow at the doctors, remember to start breathing again after they ask you to take a deep breath and hold it...Garry, to continue what DerJohn said, Fergie gets to work on an icebreaker - and chase polar bears (or do they get to chase him? I forgot... )Gazoo, I’ll fill you in some (as much as that can be done at all...) - our virtual servers here, Zoe (usually covers days) and Chloe (covers nights usually) are our lovely twins, and Janie also helps cover nights and weekends sometimes. Just give whichever of the ladies is serving when you come in. Oh, if you get the TOTP or TOP - Top Of (The) Page - honors, you get to buy the beverages (and munchies) for that page. But since you’re new, you might be able to get off the first time that happens. Bring your virtual plastic or cash, or if you’re short on the $$, you might be able to get Chloe to arrange a payment plan. Just don’t fall behind, ‘cause Chloe has a cousin Vinny that you do NOT want to get on the bad side of....As for topics in here, there’re a lot of ‘em, and sometimes we even talk about our layouts! laugh I’ll buy your beverage today (just give our lovely server your choice), and tell us about your MRR empire. Scale? Following a prototype (or freelancing like me & some others)? Are you modeling a particular era/time period? Nosy Inquiring minds and all that... You’ll probably get the hang of things if you grab a corner seat and listen a while. Inch - You have a lot of layout there, if that’s just the kids’ layout! How big is your layout? Hey, we can always find another excuse reason to head for the LHS, right? Justifying those bargains we find “while we’re in there...” Fergie, hope you have a good trip and get a lot of MRR’ing projects accomplished. And have good connections for your Internet hookup... Just watch out for those grouchy, just-waking-up polar bears!Jeff, it sounds like you’re making excellent progress on your layout track and wiring. Onward and upward with the trees, grass and rocks! Nice touch to have the retired steam locos in the park, too. I can relate to the remarks about clearing off just to find stuff, so I can then start work on another part of the layout.. Definitely can understand that!DerJohn, good luck with the next part of your industrial park there. Is Kris off on a book marketing junket, or pleasure?Sue, I’d love to see some pics of your process on making those trees, if/when you get ‘em. [drool]RT, the regular stress test might not be too bad - they gave me one a few years back after I’d gone to the ER (with what turned out later was probably nothing more than a muscle spasm on my left side). Good that you won’t be glowing in the dark... On my stress test, they had me going on the treadmill for about 15 minutes until they finally asked me to step off. No X-rays, just monitoring me electronically. Usually they say to keep going and let them know if you’re in pain or need to quit. Hopefully yours will be as uneventful as mine.
Hey, Zoe, did Ryan leave any of that pie? If so, I'll have a slice of that apple with some vanilla ice cream on top.
Blessings,Jim in Cape Girardeau
hey guys. Baseball tonight.

Will do!
Evening all, I'll have a barley pop Cleo if'en ya woulds,
Not much going on here, had some rain here this afternoon and evening, but me n KC did get fur a spell in between [had a little sun too], so it wasn't to bad a day.

That's an ultra-sonic jewerly cleaner Mother bought me to clean wheels and such on my old engines, but so far all I've cleaned is jewerly for her and 2 DIL's. I'd been wanting one for a long time but wouldn't spend the money for one. One of the suppliers she deals with in her jewerly buisness had them on sell for less than $20 bucks, most the time their $50 plus.
First Welcome and hope you enjoy yur visit here. As far as confussed, I am too, but the grandkids say I'm just old.
JIM, that's OURs, mine n the kids layout. It's bout a 7x9 ft. I never really need a reason for the LHS, it's finding a reason to go to Terre Haute for something else that's the problem. I can always say since we're over, let go by Joe's
RT, Hope everything goes well tomorrow with the test. We'll be thinking of ya
Well found the switch I was missing, so I can finish the main line. Was going to work on it tomorrow, but I'm going to have kids again. Maybe this weekend it'll get done along with the other things that's planned. Ya'll have a good night, time for bed here

Howdy......
Well, RT was buying and I decided not to impose too much. I orded some of that pie Ryan had. I was told he ate all of it. So, RT, my share of the tab is zero. Now, if luct will have more tim Horton's coffee in the moring, I'd appreciate some of it.
RT... I've had those treadmill stress tests a few times. You'll do okay
Jim (cape)... I appreciate the explantion to Gonzo about the diner. I was a bit confused myself. (It takes little to do that.) Are there more servers than the names you mentioned?
hello to Cox..... hope the "plumbing" normalizes.
Colby ... went to baseball. I'll stick with track "diamonds" myself.
Inch...... nice layout, but that's an interestin commodity.... ultra-sonic jewelry cleaner... my road hauls none of that.
sue/larry..........keep up the good work with pix. has the dog signed up with the Mariners yet?
Happy Model Railroading!
Good evening everyone....we have yet another Nor'easter drawing down on us, and central MA is right on the border again between heavy wet snow, sleet, or heavy rain, maybe some of each, before it departs for Nova Scotia. And, is if this weren't enough, we have a bigger Nor'easter due here Sunday into Monday, and that has a lot of people worrying. Monday is the Boston Marathon, 24,000 runners, and they don't cancel unless things are REALLY bad, so the runners are in for a bad day.
Today I spend the whole day up back doing the 2nd brush burn. With all this rain/snow coming tonight, it is ideal to burn because you don't worry about flare-ups on the woodline in the wind on a hill, even though I rake and soak the daylights out of the hot ashes.
COLBY: Congrats on your entry to "whose who"......I hope this leads to college scholarship for you, we are all pulling for you here in the Diner. As for the code LHS.....this means " Local Hobby Store.....not Lewiston High School.
SUE: You might want to try using Colorado Blue Spruce tree tips for trees. They are MUCH stronger and do not wimp over like Canadian hemlock, like all firs. I plan to try using dowels, drill holes in the side on downward angles, and place the proper size spruce tips/branch ends into these holes. The dowels will be stained bark coloring first of course. Then hair spray or clear Krylon spray to preserve the foliage. Did you get the book or tape yet Sue..."White Cascade" ?
DER JOHN: As mentioned above, we have TWO Nro'easters coming our way, for you, it will be Friday and Monday, and it looks like heavy rains both days for you. Scientific American just had an article this issues that says the ocean temps are rising, not just an El Nino, or La Nina, which means that the American Southwest and almost all of California is going to become very arrid. But, the Pacific storms will now move further North and pound the Canadian west coast and all of Canada will become much wetter as storms track across southern Canada instead of in the northern U.S. You may not have to worry about water barrels any more. LOL
PC: Annual physical time I see......make sure they do a PSA test! Also, ask for a CRP test . (C-Reactive Protein). As for teenage daughter wanting to come to office with dad........hmmmmm, you didn't happen to notice that good looking new young lineman in the office did you? You know, the apprentice with his dad.......about 16 years old, tall, good looking lad? LOL
MIKE: Your not OLD !!!!!!!! You've just lived a long time...like me !!! LOL
JIM: Thanks for the email...that teacher deserves a reward !!!!
JP: NO HITTING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-0 !!!!!!!!! People found out that Dice-K is "human".
JEFF: Scenery started yet?
Time to hit the sack, might have to bring grandkids to bus stop tomorrow, the driveways are 160 foot drop from top to bottom, and on wet snow.....it is quite a thrill for the mothers, so Grampa gets pressed into service with 4x4 Explorer.
Hi.
Just in from the hospital, Gloria had another attack and is being transferred to ICU. I don't know anymore but I'll get more info in the morning.

Good Morning All,
A regular to go please Zoe and wrap up one of Bills' donuts too please while you're at it. 30's and a combo of rain/sleet this morning. Still thrashing to finish the Lotus 11 and PBX this morning. Most of the rest is ready to go.
Luc - sorry to hear about Glos' setback - we'll say an extra prayer for her (and you).
Inch - thanks for the layout photo. You've come a long way since starting over. I see the dual controller - how many blocks are you planning on using?
Colby - congrats - it's nice to be recognized for your efforts.
Got to toodle off and get on with it. At least we got the trailer sorted yesterday when it was warmer/dry so no need to get soaked today. CUL, J.R.
Good morning
Happy MRRing
Hey guys.
I don't mean to be rude to those who have love ones who are sick, but I find that railfans like us here at the hobby shop have health issues or have poeple we know having trouble with their health. I don't know about you guys but I think that older railfans (not that any of you are realy old but are getting one in years) are more likly to get sick as younger railfans like me get teased about liking trains at school.
Morning all!
Starting out to be another chilly one today. Shoot, it's snowing over in Ill. right now! It's supposed to warm up a little though later on.
Got my big doctors appointment today. Not looking forward to that! It's not going to be ANY fun at all. Gotta do the old man physical......you know, the 40+ one. I hate being poked and prodded! Oh well, it'll give the wife peace of mind I guess.

I'll have to look into that! We can't be having any of that, now can we?
And thanks for the info on the doc. I'll look into that too.
Luc, Praying for Glo.
