This weekend I decided to build a new SD40-2 in the CSX-yb scheme! I used an undecorated Athearn dummy, added powered trucks(with out worm gears) installed lights at each end, and a bunch of brass details! I will post pics next weekend. Thanks for the answer Jonathan.

I still havent seen any CSX Layout Pics from any one, is Ken the only one with models?

I think Ken is the only one with anything finished. My problem is a I don't have a camera or much finished. Give me a little bit and hopefully I'll have somthing to post. What I need to do is by a disposable camera.

Mid Michigan Railroad GP9M #24 on the Grand Rapids Eastern mainline in Ada, MI. Grand Rapids Eastern interchanges with CSX.

Ken- I do have a webshots acount. If you look at the bottom of my post it's the link. It has pictures of the prototype and of my last three layouts. I'll be taking a trip to wisconsin in two weeks and when I get back I'll use the remaining pictures to show you guys the progress of my layout.

Jay and Adam- Good to see some fellow scouts on the forum. I eagled in 01 and I'm teaching the railroading merit badge to my old troop right now. Including a trip to Altoona and the Horseshoe curve in August. Hope to see a post someday about both of you reaching your eagle!

Ken- Hope you enjoyed the photos. It's my fourth layout but none of them have really had scenery. I almost had the sectional aproach going. All my parts were 2 foot by 4 foot and i would rearrange them. the problem was they were all built with different grades of lumber so nothing ever matched up.

In regards to the web buttons. I love them. There are people who don't promote their layout on the forum's so sometimes i spend some time opening up all the webpages I can find. I know their are a lot of talented people here but there's still a bunch that you have to search for.

Jonathon- I like photo. What does the m stand for in GP9?

Very well could be Ken. The Grand Rapids Eastern and Mid Michigan railroads (both owned by Rail America) operate a stretch of former GTW mainline. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was an ex B&O ex CSX GP9, though.

George, the M means that it was rebuilt. For example, this GP9 had it's nose chopped. I don't know why they call them GP9M's, because as we all know, M normally stands for EMD wide cab.

Yes Andrew I definitely enjoyed them! [tup] Spent nearly an hour at your site. Nice weathering on those models!

Regarding the M/M geep: That winterization hatch must have been added later (during the rebuild), none of the C&O or B&O geeps ever had those. I also notice there are no dynamic brake blisters - all of the 9's (except the torpedo boats) had DB's. I know it isn't a torpedo boat because the air reservoirs are under the chassis like regular geeps. So if this ever belonged to Chessie, they sure did a great job of hiding its origins![:D]

I like CSX. Here in my town they come threw on a old SeaBoard rail, and carry mostly coal, but my favorite, and sorry, is Norfolk Southern. Guess cause im a southern boy. hehehe

Welcome to the thread. My favorite is of course CSX but there is still a spot for NS in my heart. My U -30c in NS has a specail place on my layout. i'm planning to have atleast one NS run through train on my layout. It will be nice contrast to the CSX and Chessie's bright colors and even though I'm not sure if this is prototypical for my era it will be run long hood forward.

Josh, I'm not sure exactly when the white roofs appeared, but their purpose is to keep the cab interior cooler by reflecting the sunlight instead of absorbing it...cheaper than retrofitting every loco with a roof-mounted A/C unit!

I live in huntington wv and csx and chessie is all over, conrail, the occasonial up ...kcs... old bn the green ones and there is also a old alco 1 i think still in the oglby colors. The hgnt carshop is always busy me and the wee chessiefan go there often to watvh the action.
