I can live with the YN3 scheme as long as they keep the yellow nose (BTW do they still paint the end of the 'long' hood yellow as well?). At least that's still a far sight prettier than the bland black-and-white on NS locos!

The ends are still yellow, but it doesn't go to the top or bottom, it is a yellow centered square. Yes it is 200 times better than NS even the new racoon look !

Athearn makes a couple different cabooses in a csx scheme, including a couple operation lifesaver schemes. Another option is to use a caboose of predesecor(spelling) I know in the Akron hill yard there is a old conrail caboose and a old chessie system caboose. Of course these would all be heavily weathered. On another note all the csx cabooses I have seen have been of the bay window type. doesn't mean that'ss all they have it's just the ones that turn up the most.

Atlas , Athearn, and Bachmann make them. Any of the Chessie, Seaboard cabooses could be repaintd. Microscale make the decals for them.

I was looking at the CSX photo archives page and noticed that csx still owns an Fp7a and a f7b. From what I could find out they are now on loan to the potomac eagle scenic railroad. I have both these engines modeled b y athearn and was wondering when did csx loan them out. I'm modeling the days before the Conrail merger and was hoping I could use these engines on my business train. If anyone knows a website I could go to find out this info I would greatly appreciate it.

Actually, all of the CSX cabooses I've seen around here are Chessie Ex B&O or Ex C&O, so getting a Chessie caboose would be accurate, too.

Those pictures are great!

I just moved to Augusta and have seen that bridge from River Watch Parkway. How did you get down to the location where you took the bridge picture? I've been trying to figure out how to get down there, but don't know the area well enough yet.

Thanks

Hey guys, I posted these in the prototype forum too but thought they might fit here as well. They were shot in August, Ga.

Mixed freight crossing the Augusta Canal. We saw this train something like five times! Glad the popo wasn't around... [:)]

We went in on a dirt road by the old Confederate Powder Plant. It parallels the canal and ends up at the bridge. There's some good train watching spots out there.

Augusta is rich in history. It was a good visit. Since you're new to town, check out the Augusta History Museum. They have a Georgia RR Mikado in the back on display (inside). It's cool how NS still runs trains down the street by the Riverwalk area. The old bridge over the Savannah for that track is very interesting as well.

SixAxles, here's a pic of the same train leaving the yard downtown (yard by Laney-Walker Blvd). That's a great place to watch. The yard was HEAVY on power when we were there.

I live within hearing distance of the line that crosses that bridge.

Yesterday I saw my first SD70ACE on that line. It was sitting on the passing siding about 3 miles from the bridge.

I've seen one train go by the museum about a week ago. It was great.

For all the trains in Augusta, you'd think there would be more of a model railroad presence there, but so far I haven't been able to find anything but a single hobby shop with a few trains.

I went by Hobby Town and it was ok. A friend of mine there told me that Augusta used to have a trains only shop but it closed about a year ago when the owner got sick.[V]

this got all the way to the fifth page. So I thought I'd kick it back to the front. A little under 30 feet of AMI roadbed was put down. It went down easy since 10 feet of that was tangent along the yard.

csxguy- How's the page coming along I'm waiting in antecipacion for some pics.

You bet, Ken! It's nice that CSX and NS have left A LOT of Conrail ubits in Conrail paint. I'm glad they're not like UP, who has very few CNW and SP locomotives left in their origonal paint!

Here's a leftover Kato SD40 that I self-painted. I would've preferred the CQ scheme, but I couldn't find any photos of the pre-Dash2 units painted that way...

Ok, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm 18 and I live in Sumter County, Florida in a little town called Lake Panasoffkee. I've loved trains since I was little and I still do. Me and my buddy are always walking the CSX tracks that run right through town for about 2 miles all the way to Coleman landing and we turn back and walk back. Last night we saw 5 trains (heading north from Dade city and south from Wildwood) and that was a blast. To me, there's not a bigger ru***han a 3 CSX C44-9W locos pulling a load of autoracks just a couple of feet above my head. I crouch down by a bridge so I'm not spotted by the engineers. Not that I'm doing anything bad. But thats my idea of a fun night.

I'm glad you love trains. That sounds like an adventure. I probably don't need to tell you, but, be very careful though. They aren't very forgiving of momentary lapses of judgement.
