Now I can post  films again.   Something a little different.   A walk around Knaresborough, Yorkshire.    As a lad I spent many a holiday here.

More scenes of Knaresborough.

A short film of 'The Dropping Well' at Knaresborough.

Hello Railfans!

Ed - That C&O car looks great (ya think i might be biased? Laugh )!

Wish I could throw pics back your way as I have an absolutely gorgeous C&O F7-A (and now some 3d express cars!) that would look really good on the front end of that car.

I thought the Xmas billboard was a nice touch, too. Gonna have to start calling you Mr. Scenemaster! Dang Ed, even your lil peoples look good!

(You, Garry, and Doc Wayne better have locks on your doors. One of these days imma sneak over and steal yalls secrets! Prolly run some trains too Laugh )

I have to concur with the working of what is called "odd" or "late" shifts. Funny, I always thought the daytimers were the odd ones. At 3am, yeah, Im wide awake! Soon as the sun comes up... its vampire time and back in the crypt i go.

I always enjoyed the night shift. Seemed more natural to me. You can get alot done overnight. My Dad used to call it 'being lazy'. I told him someone had to keep the world spinning, and that half the world is up at night doing it. Half the world cant be wrong?

So, its a bad habit to have 20 projects going? I thought that showed innitiative! Hmmm. Guess were a couple old fools then! I personally dont feel like breaking that habit, im having too much fun. That and i have at least half dozen other car types I want to make.

I can attest to that after hitting a stump on a project, nothin like a round or two of sleep before a great idea pops in and solves the problem. Ironic how working on model trains is meditative enough to... work on trains. Ya get away from the problem by making more problems Laugh . If ya follow the way ive drifted.

So, its 3pm now here, top of the mornin to ya, and im off to spend the day working on that 42 footer. If this goes well, a 53' flat is prolly next since it would be just a longer 42'.  See, havent even got a good start on this project and already thinking about the next. Fer shame! Laugh Laugh

All the best!

Douglas

It's 4:30 pm here -- just the time for happy hour on a Friday!

New granddaughter got here today.  Both mom and baby are fine.  Thanks to modern technology, we got to see the baby online.

I have been told by daughters who should know that this is the last grandchild.  Early Christmas present.

Started getting rid of stuff I don't need in the Garage / Train Room. Threw away about 35 pounds of junk inculding some train stuff.

Went to Home Despot to buy some 14ga wire.  Traffic in my small town was terrible.  It took 3 red lights to make the left turn.  I thought the light was short timing, but people don't exactly step on the gas once the light turns around here.

I asked the guy who cut my wire how many employees have gotten sick with covid, as numerous customers don't wear masks.  He said (or maybe was told to say) a few have been in quarantine.  He said people get hostile if you ask them to wear a mask, and HD supplies free masks.

My niece in law canceled Christmas.  She works in the ER and her husband is a paramedic, working 36 hour shifts.  She is supposed to get her vaccine tomorow.  Her mother and my wife's sister lives a few doors down and baby sits while everyone is at work, so her parents are constantly exposed to her family.

Speaking of 36 hour shifts.  All I had to do was to be called in for one quickie case, an appendectomy or a D&C at 2, 3 or 4 am and I would wake up the next 3 nights at the same time.

Must have been some cold Aprils????  Both my sons were born in October....

Speaking of sons!  My son in England sent me a few more photos of their home in England to share.  Enjoy!

This one was taken at twilight he says...

And one of the dining area:

He says they have now pretty much verified the home is about 400 years old.  I hope to visit when the Virus is gone and the world is unlocked again.  I think I shall enjoy the visit!

I'm sure I will be treated to some train rides with steam at the front end....  YES!!!

Edit....  Currently 9°F (-13°C)!  No wonder the furnice is running a lot...  Almost time to head into the bedroom and get under some covers for the night.  Stay Safe and Well!

I am still waiting on my first!

Still hoping, but the girls don't seem very interested in making me happy.

Both my sons were born in October..

All three of my daughters were born in October. January is the only cold month (week, sometimes just a day) in Florida.

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

I guess it had to happen.

I have taken almost everything down in my house over the past nine months with no surprises. No termites, water leaks, dryrot, bad wiring, roof leaks, other infestations, or anything.

Today I took down the baseboards in the corner by the new sliding door, and... mold. Not too much, but I better find out why.

hon30critter No sign of the RDC. I was wondering about that today, Dave. What a sad situation that we lowly citizens can no longer count on basic services that we dearly pay for

I heard yesterday that Canada Post was moving 2 million packages a day. That is likely overwhelming them. I'll just have to be patient.

Good morning all.   The tea and toast with marmalade is in the table.  Help yourself.

The rain has finally stopped, for now.  The sun is shining.  A cold wind from the north is blowing.

Two scenes of near the Cotswolds when we visited during the Summer.  It was a lovely warm few days.   See what you see, not what you think you see.  Then transfer it to the layout.

The sky is not all blue.  It is not all white either.  How many shades of green are there?  How many shades of green in a tree?  How many shades of green in the grass.

Look outside and see what you see, not what you think you see.

Good Morning Saturday!

Crumpets, Irish Butter and some tart marmelade would be nice.

Ray, those photos remind me of some of the homes featured on the BBC1 show Escape to the Country.

Mrs. Pullman has been watching past episodes of this. I noticed several where the buyer required space to set up a model railway empire. I only watch when Sonali Shah is on.

Stay safe, stay warm — Cheers, Ed

Hey, Hey, HEY!!!!!!!

Buffalo Bills clinch the AFC East for the first time in 25 years with a 48 to 19 win over Denver today!

YES!  (I really don't get into feetball that much but I do like the Bills.)  Only Team I actually met one of their players when I was a performer at the local Father Son Banquet (Elba, NY) where he was the keynote speaker.  That was Lou Piccone (sp)!  Found the autographed program tucked away in a drawer not long ago from that night.  Lou was an excellent speaker and a fun guy to hang around with at the event.  We sat across from each other and my son (8th. grader at the time) was basically freaked out....  Supposedly he was the shortest and lightest professional Football player of all time.

A little enjoyment to go with your Sunday morning tea:

What a sight and sound to behold. A great honor to our allies and to all who serve.

Hats off to the clever director and film editors who caught so many neat little vignettes and incorporated them into this thoroughly enjoyable video.

Good morning all  from a 'sombre' England.   People have been ignoring Covid rules, now  vitrtually a lockdown is looming (again).

Christmas is coming.  Here is   34046 'Braunton' with The CHRISTMAS White Rose, Telford to York.

Seen first, outward, storming through Acton Bridge as the sun had just risen above the trees. Then the return through Hartford. Diesel on the rear is D1935 ,47805 'Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013' 19th December 2020

The Weardale Railway  Christmas Train

Saphos Trains brings the curtain down on a miserable year on the mainline for all concerned by somehow finding a legal loophlole in the Covid-19 restrictions and being able to run their First class Christmas dining trains. The Christmas specials have picked up passengers on the 17th and 19th of December on separate trips and have picked up from tier two and three covid areas, with the latter being all but a full lockdown except shops, hairdressers and gyms being allowed to be open but no hospitality venues are permitted to be open. It's guessed that Saphos Trains can run under the guise of offering public transport. The two trips in question were the Pennine Moors Christmas Explorer which was a circular trip over the Pennines via Copy Pit and Todmorden and the other trip which is the final mainline trip of the year, was the White Rose from Telford to York via Manchester. The first location is Dutton Viaduct which passes over the River Weaver in between Acton Bridge & Warrington. This is unfortunately followed by heavily a assisted climb of Copy Pit due to late running and a wet rail. The other shots see a sunrise arrival and departure at Warrington Bank Quay and then followed by a fine climb through Chinley as the Bullied heads towards the Hills of Edale. So, that's it for 2020 and what a year to forget ! I'd usually say Roll On 2021 but let's be honest, it's going to be more of the same until late Spring and then hopefully more excursions and will get the go ahead. It's hoped Saphos will continue when possible, as long as there's people prepared to book.

Have a good day

Coffee  Coffee Time.

Another film made yesterday.

One of the minority of preserved railways focusing of daylight services, rather than night time illuminations, the Somerset & Dorset Railway fronted two locomotives in order to deliver their 'Santa Specials'. Based at Midsomer Norton on the route of the original Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway, the Somerset & Dorset Railway operated four return trips along the length of the line. All services featured top-and-tail running, with a mix of steam and diesel traction; the former provided by 7109 "Joyce", and the latter by Class 03 Shunter - D2128, with the pair tackling the 1-in-53 gradient towards Chilcompton. Locomotives: Ex-Croydon Gasworks Sentinel - 7109 "Joyce" BR Class 03 - D2128 All footage filmed on Saturday the 19th of December 2020.
