Good morning all.

Three films of  'On the Settle -  Carlisle  Line'

Edit.  The line is now safe.   It is a main North- South artery  for freight trains.

As  we cannot post another thing until tomorrow,  another film  of the S&C  as it is now

Enjoy.

 Stay safe.

Good morning, everyone.

I guess the forum is allowing me to type, so I will see what happens when I submit.

I know I've mentioned before -- for years I carried a phone around everyday.  When I retired, I got rid of the phone.  I can honestly say I have not missed the phone for a single day.  There is life after a phone.

I have not carried a phone since I retired.

For 20 years I had a company-owned cell phone. I never had my own cell phone.

Edit: I can post too... YAY!

The best part for me?  When I go to the store, I'm not getting calls from my wife telling me everything I shouldn't forget to buy.

We do have one local grocery that is a dead zone for my cell phone.

Ray, stay safe tomorrow, there are lots of other days ahead to hang with the lady.

Yep....  I called her this morning and she was glad I would stay safe here and not try to drive to Victor, NY to walk with her. We will get together possibly early next week to take a safe walk at the mall unless the area gets shut down again.  Very much a possibility as we are one of the worst for "cases" and hospitalizations in the state at the moment..... (sigh)

We got nailed with 6.5 " of white stuff and I have spent about 2 hours cleaning out the driveways...  Have a bit more to do just as soon as the batteries recharge.  Yep my Snowblower is battery electric and this heavy, icy, dense sn*w eats the charge quickly.  I do have 5 batteries to use but a couple were on low charge level as they haven't been used in a couple months (they go into a discharge mode on the chargers which extends the battery life) and I have one that is at the end of its usefull life, still is usable but drains very quickly.  Oh well Time for lunch anyway!

BTW, Brent!  The "ad" brought tears to me eyes!  That is exactly what I am doing or at least trying to do and become....  Spent way too long feeling sorry for myself and not taking care of myself.  By the end of this year I hope to have put in 4,700 miles since I started to keep track (2.5 years).  Have about 29 miles to go.  If the weather co-operates I should make it!

Oooo...  Top of the page!  Lunch is on me, just put it on the tab.

Look at the third post in General Discussions.  I suppose it's now up to us, as Model Railroaders and extraordinary diagnosticians, to figure out why some threads work and some don't.

Are the threads you can't post on newer than the ones you can post on?

Howdy ....

It looks like we are open for business.  I'll have an English style scone with coffee, please. Not tea. I prefer coffee.

Is everybody ready for Christmas ? Only a few days left.

Steve O. ... I'm wondering what's up with you. Sometimes you participate in the Diner with friendly comments and maybe with yummy virtual food. I have not seen you in the Diner lately. I hope you are okay.

Ray.... Snow blower ? We sold ours when we moved from MI to KY. We have no need for one anymore.

Everybody ....... Have a good evening.

Good afternoon from the Pacific Rim where it was a nice day today.

It was Quartz and sink day today.

Did not get much accomplished today, I see some of the new Walthers track is starting to show up, there are a few things I need so I may place an order.

Did not see any disruption in the forum today, it either did not happen or was short-lived.

The wife and daughter went Christmas shopping, the daughter is looking good for having her gallbladder out 48 hours ago. I bet she runs out of steam pretty quick as she has not eaten very much since her surgery. This family are not layabouts or whiners, I am glad she is not letting a little gallbladder removal slow her down.Yes

I think it is Tai night in the takeout dept as I don't feel like wrestling that stove back to where it should be. I think it weighs 168kg. I don't want to risk hitting the counters until the glue dries.

I just asked the wife to pick up a bottle of rum because I deserve it. We will see if she sees the message.

It is garbage day tomorrow but another trip to the transfer station will be required. I can't believe how much garbage this kitchen reno is producing.

All the best to all.

Welcome  BACK   Welcome

I really didn't notice any interruptions on my end.

Brent, that fellow walking toward the camera in the CP Shop sure looks like Papa Boule, the French engine driver in the 1964 Burt Lancaster movie The Train.

Excellent choice. I wasn't sure what movie I was going to pop into the (apparently vintage) DVD player tonight. Now I have a good movie to watch while w**king on the layout.

Cheers, Ed

I have been trying again.  I just lost a post.  It's been hit or miss.

Locked out again for the past 10 minutes.

Edit:  I'm going to try to edit this post.  I have not been able to post anything for most of the day, including the past hours.

Edit 2:  I see that worked.  Maybe things are looking up for me!

Hi Ed,

Thanks for posting the 'The Train' video. That is one of my favourite movies! They sure weren't stingy with the pyrotechniques!

No sign of the RDC.GrumpyBang HeadBang Head

No results from my Covid-19 test either.

Take care,

I was wondering about that today, Dave. What a sad situation that we lowly citizens can no longer count on basic services that we dearly pay for Sad

I think the whole movie is available on YouTube* (maybe not up north, though?)

They sure got lucky in the skillful way they filmed the big train wreck scene. No models there! I remember my dad taking me to see the movie in the theater. I was eight or nine at the time. Pretty thrilling for a kid!

Fingers crossed that your results are negative.

Have a great evening, everyone! Cheers, Ed

I had take-out Indian food tonight for dinner from a little place that a friend suggested. I had chicken curry, and it was wonderful.

It has been years since I had Indian food.

It is available but they want $5.00 to rent it. I'll keep it in mind.

When I worked at the Sears Canada store in Peterborough, Ontario many years ago, one of the guys who I worked with was a very nice gentleman by the name of Ted Taylor. Ted was a WWII veteran. In fact, he was a Spitfire pilot who flew 'train busting' missions over France prior to and after D-Day. He talked about his experiences a couple of times. I don't remember all of the details, but it was enthralling to listen to him. He was a consumate professional and a pleasure to work with!BowThumbs UpWowYeah

Hello Railfans! Top of the evening to ya. I know its 3ish in the am so Ill speak softly over the dim lite of the ole coal stove in the corner....

Hope all are well. Things here are still conspiring along with the great scheme of things which means im doing about par myself.

Didnt get any of the snowy participation they were calling for. Ya know, for being in the mtns, and a fair piece into the thinner part of our atmosphere (2600' upwards), why youd think wed see a bit now and then. Ya know?

Always had a blast in the stuff as a youngin. Cant figure out why it cant be like that now, just because I growed all up! Humbug i tell ya!

On the hobbyside of things i recieved some 0.1mm "tips" today. Shame they didnt come with a new printer attached to them. Im interested in having a second printer to save from having to change tips often on a single printer. A new spray rig is higher on the list right now.

I also started a new model - 42' Flatcar. Dont ask me why, i havent finished the others yet Dunce.

I spose thats enough blabberin while yall are trying to sleep. Or, barely able to read at this hour, which ever. I just came in to raid the ice box for a midnite snack of caboose cookies and brimstone water.

Have a good day folks!

4 am here.  I heard the clock strike 1,2 and 3 and got up.  I was not on my computer yesterday so I didn't notice anything.

We got 3.5" and it snowed and sleeted all day and part of the night to get that much.  We were forecast 4-8"  It was enough for my cardiologist to not open his office. I messaged my old cardiologist and she thought I could ski (eastern skiing) again.  I have not been since 2014 when I had the valve job.

We went to see a guy about making some furniture.  He works out of his dad's shop and dad repairs tractor trailers.  There was a Kenworth tractor and trailer parked inside and he could have parked two more without giving up any of his wood working space.  Maybe dad owned the land and surrounding warehouses because it was a ridiculous waste of space.

The Black Rifle coffee I ordered on 11/27 has been seen tonight in DC.  Only 17 days to travel from Los Angeles, having started in TN.

Good morning all.   Toast and tea and thick cut marmalade  is on the table.

The news here is we are in Tier 3  (the highest category over Covid)  so Christmas will be a lot different to last year.  Mindst you, the idiots that put us in the highest category do not care.  They still 'party' like they always did.

I cannot post film at the moment.  Will try later.

I'm just getting warmed up at 3 AM. I've always been a night-owl. Years of working odd shifts has taken its toll.

I pulled one of my C&O cars out of the coach yard for you, Douglas Cool

 Chessie_Club by Edmund, on Flickr

I always thought this car had class! Sometimes I run it on my Capitol Limited as a stand-in lounge when one of the domes is in the shop Whistling

So, NOW that its almost 7AM it is time for me to turn in. Lower berth in Bedroom A. We got about three inches of fluffy-stuff. Most of the heavy snow hit to the east and south of us.

PM Railfan
I also started a new model - 42' Flatcar. Dont ask me why, i havent finished the others yet

That is one of my bad habits. too. I always have at least two-dozen "projects" going at once. It usually works out good for me as when I hit a roadblock I set the job aside and look at it down the road. Sometimes I end up with a better solution after I give it a rest.

Another weekend is here!

Best to everyone,

Cheers, Ed
