 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please.

VA Hospital Visit. Over all not a bad visit. Far as my eyes, there is a broken blood vessel in the left eye but the Dr said he not worried about it. Hum, wonder if that is because it's not his eye? I don't know if it is a new one, or the one I had last year.

Feet Front Got a big Yes from leg ulcer clinic. Hammer Toe ulcer is all but gone. Far as the blood blister / callus, I was told I caught it earliy and treated it right. By the time he trimed it, well it was gone so I am happy.

Got home around 12:30 and my eyes where finally get back to normal after being dilated, luckly it was overcast today. Close up vision was blurry on the way home.

Train Front Went too K-10 Model Trains again. Looked at the remaning Bessmer SD 7 with sound! What to do, what to do. Whistling Walked out with a 12 pack of Proto 2000 wheels and that was it! Big Smile

Looks like piston rods in the floor.

Moe, Larry Curly yes they are connecting rod. But they are Aluminum Connecting Rods form my 528 CI Stroker Hemi! The Adcom 555 make 200 watts at 2 ohm and bridge mono 600 watts at 2 ohm. Now, I have not looked at te specks in year so it might be 8 ohms. If you might like to take a crack at the Adcom gear let me know.

Trains are running pretty well and the Tsunami SD 7 is starting to grow on me far as the sound. Bumped the sound up on the B&O F7's a tad, while it helped another bump should just about me it perfect!

Ed the B&O F7's are the best gift I have ever gotton! Beats the heck out of the under ware Mom gave me for Christmass when I was 14!

 Later, Ken

. . .Richard, ask your doctor about wearing a soft collar at night.  Sleeping is the worst for my neck.   Reading or watching TV in bed with your head bent forward is bad;  that is also the same relative position people text on their cell phones.  If you can manage it, only sleep on one pillow.  Hope you have a speedy recovery.  Prednisone usually works for me if I catch it early.  Narcotics not so much.  Don't be surprised if you are wide awake at night and hungry as a coon hound from the steroid. . .

I have been on prednisone quite a few times with my asthma. It makes me really grouchy. It's weird--I know I am being really difficult to be around, but there is little I can do to prevent it.

Today the doctor added a muscle relaxant to my regime, as the muscles in my neck were having spasms--extremely painful! My body doesn't know if I should be wide awake from the prednisone, or sleepy from the pain killer and relaxant.

Good evening diners.  Back from SC.  Going down I detoured through Raleigh because 95 was closed due to the hurricane.  Parallel roads like 301 had washed out bridges too.  Coming home I-95 was open north bound, when I left SC, until an 18 wheeler ran off the road.  Then the rubberneckers on the other side ran into each other, catching an 18 wheeler hauling hazardous chemicals on fire.  They shut down I 95 until this morning.  Meanwhile in the back up, people ran into each other killing 2 people in a RV Angel

It was back to Raleigh and home at midnight instead of 10 pm

Colonoscopy  Go Lytely tastes like velvety Gatorade.  My first one, I drank only 1 of 4 quarts.  I just looked at it an vomited.  That managed to clean my out from top down.  By catching polyps early, you are preventing cancer.

Richard, ask your doctor about wearing a soft collar at night.

Jim welcome to the diner

Mr B 99 is a pretty good run.  My grandmother lived that long and had most her wits but none of her senses of sight smell nor taste.  Condolences and prayers Angel

Afternoon Diners,

Since I only needed a one covered hopper (Rock Island) for now. I know I need at least three. The small grain elevator will handle both covered hopper and boxcars depending on shipment.

Mr. B- I'm sorry to hear about your wife's dad passing.

Ulrich- I hope you're feeling better soon. I miss reading about your days.

Not sure what triggered it, but I am suffering from some pretty severe neck pain. I virtually no range of motion in my neck. I went to the doctor yesterday and was put on prednisone and pain killers. I have a really good doctor. I called at 9:00am, got an appointment for 2:15pm, and was in and out in 45 minutes, including getting scripts written and a cortisone injection.

Still waiting for things to get better. I slept for about 2.5 hours last night sitting up on the couch. The pain has been excruciating. It is not as bad this morning but there was a lull last night and then it returned with a vengeance. Here's to hoping. I did get a chance to finish "The Book Thief," based on a recommendation from Mrs. ROR. It took a while to get used the the writing style--it is narrated by death--but it the end, it was a good book. Now I am going to start "The Wright Brothers," by David McCullough. I have read a number of his books and enjoy his research and writing style.

Morning all!

Chloe, I'll take some eggs, bacon, and the largest cup of coffee you can carry. Keep the coffee coming until I start to vibrate like a plucked string.

Thirteen hour night shift is in the process of turning into a fifteen hour shift. The powers that be decided it was a good idea to send us on a 120 mile round trip an hour before we're supposed to get off.  The first 60 miles down won't be bad, but the trip back will be with rush hour traffic. At least the patient is sleeping.  I've transported her before, and when she's awake she'll talk the hind legs off an elephant at 100 yards.

On the train front, I started looking at what needs to be done to get the basement ready. All the framing, electrical, phone, computer, and cable work I can do myself, Drywall, not so much, I can do it, but the pros can do it in a quarter of the time, with half the mess, and 100% less mistakes.

Also need to do battle with my roommate on rearranging his office so I have the necessary space. My house so I'll win any argument, but that's not the best way to get along. There's more than enough room, but it he'll have to change from a front-rear corner arrangement to a front-runner front-runner arrangement.

F-f-feels l-like I-I H-have enough c-coffee t-to stay a-awake n-now, so I-I b-better H-hit t-the road.

J Powell What will you Amzom store be selling? Is it hard to start one? I am guessing everything will be dropped shipped?

 See you all later, Ken

Ken - I will be doing what is called retail arbitrage. Retail arbitrage is a method of sourcing inventory from retail stores in order to sell it through Amazon. When you're doing retail arbitrage (or RA, as it's often abbreviated), you are looking for items you can buy at a low price in retail stores and sell high on Amazon.

It's a process though, as you have to meet certain Amazon requirements to sell in the various categories on Amazon.

Mr B - I'm sorry to hear about the loss. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family druing this difficult time.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please. If Mr B makes it by give him one as well.

Deep down in the dumps today. Looking at the bills and what is sort of a paycheck. Local Shop And Save has a help wanted sign up, time to look into it. My biggest worry is my feet. Skould not be on them more than 3 hours a day.

 Speaking of feet

VA Front Have to be there at 9:30 AM to have my eyes tested. They are going to Dilate my eyes to check for damage from being diaetic. Then at 11:30 I get my feet checked. Blood Blister has turned more to a callus (from new shoes that are not working well) and hope they can remove the callus and not find a infection.

Train Front. Got all my turnouts working again! Big Smile Hope to get another one installed Thursday after I get back from the VA.

Bessmer SD 7 Played with the Tsnami decoder some. Used the EQ to turn down the higher sounds, added a little reverb and turned down exhaust. While I cannot say I love the sound I know longer hate it.

Adcom 555 photo Did anyone see the parts laying on the floor? Have to be a car guy to know what they where but they are cool.

Going to watch Olympus Has Fallen.

 Later, Ken

Good Afternoon,

Woke up this morning to a windchill of 21F. Brrrr! It is only about 40F right now.

Mr. B, sorry to hear about your FIL, I am with you on the celebration side as 99 is certainly a very long life. Nevertheless it is still sad for all involved. When my mother passed away at 97 a few years ago, I felt sad but at the same time sort of glad that I had her for such a long time.

Doing a little work on the 2 layouts. I have prepped the area for the industry parking lots as it had to be very smooth before I apply the Busch paving. I am using it on the N scale layout rather than a plaster material as I did on the HO because any surface imperfections that a just a little dip for an HO scale vehicle become a large crater for N scale. I am getting the area ready to lay the sidewalk in front of the theatre and grocery store on the HO layout. I have ordered some Bar Mills premade sidewalks as I want as little disruption as possible to the roadway.

Well I think it is time for a fire and a coffee.

Adding my condolences to the list for Mr. B.

Hoping this doesn't qualify as a political post. -- I do love the early ballot. I received my ballot a couple of days ago in the mail. Being able to to the time in the privacy of my own home to research the issues and mark the ballot is a good thing. And now we wait...

RideOnRoad

Today I had my first colonoscopy. I was overdue as I am currently 56yo and this is my first one. I was nearly clean with one polyp that they removed. The procedure was simple enough, but the prep was a bit of a problem. I had a bad reaction to the second dose of the "cleanser" and suffice it to say the cleanser and all of the subsequent liquids refused to stay down. Not much fun at all.

I perfectly understand the joys of the "cleanser". I have a family history of colon cancer. (My Dad had it at 43. Caught early thankfully. He did survive it but does have to wear a bag as a result. Yes, way early. Last I checked the ACS site, colon cancer before 60 puts relatives at increased risk.) Due for that again in a couple of years. So far, nothing has shown up but as I recall Dad's was caught completely by accident.

Hobby Curosity: On Sunday, I was working on the fencing for an industrial area on the layout and found that one piece was a lot longer than I had expected. I used a tape measure and discovered that it is 41 1/2" long. (HO scale actual a little over 300 feet) I then rememberred the right angle side is 36" long. (A full piece of cork yard sheet.) I did some more computing and discovered that in real life the area is about +/- 1.8 acres! Yes I was a bit surprised. I didn't think I could get as much as I do in such a small space.

Hi all.

Zoe, an extra tall shot of Irish Whiskey please.

Haven't posted in a while I know.

A friend and I applied for a place to share, a 3br, 2-level apartment. Going to find out this week if we're approved. If so, I'll be moving out of my family's home early December. If we get approved for the place. Our income is more then enough, and we have good references. So we'll see. If not, another place may likely come up.

Work lately has been draining. I worked 6-days in a row, and now have two days off. Two coworkers are leaving and I'll get a caseload that is double my current one. I'm not looking forward to such, but hopefully new people will alleviate the situation and can be relied on to ease my workload.

On the MR project front. I misplaced the instructions for my F&C C15 kit. I can ask for a replacement set, but I'd like to try building the model without the instructions. By problem solving, logic, and educated guesses. On second thought, I better get those directions ordered.

I just ordered two Railworks PRR #7 brass water columns. I've been playing with brass off and on since 2002 when I bought my first model using funds from mowing lawns all through the summer. My main focus with brass collecting is just getting models not likely to be available in plastic/resin, and diecast.

Cheers,

Alvie

Work Front Slow day but a good day for the owner with $2500.00 in sales. My Self? Whistling Well I made A Extra $1.00, yep that was it!

Ed If you can spare the caboose that is fine. Sure not like I have to have one. Was told at K-10 Model Trains last week when I was debating about buying the Bessmer SD-7 "We have a store full of stuff you do not need"! Laugh

Ken. The button is in the lower right of the main screen.

Ed I see the said button but it is not high lighted? More than likely because I do not have the PR-3 transfomer pluged in. If I can get the program section to work, well I see the normal program screen I use in stand a lone mode? Only thing I hate about DCC (besides cost) is if you hit the wrong button you can shut down a engine, or change CV's in all your engines! I did that onces!

Der Good looking so far as the layout goes! Are you Ho or N scale?

Mr B Sorry to hear your Father In Law passed.

J Powell What will you Amzom store be selling? Is it hard to start one? I am guessing everything will be dropped shipped?

 See you all later, Ken

Turned on the computer yesterday morning and went to do something else fully expecting to have to wake it from slumber on my return. I should have been so lucky. No, Windows 10 was updating. A full 35 minutes later I was still not able to use the wretched thing.  58% Complete – and it cycled that for a while before finally letting me use the computer.  Carving stone tablets began to look attractive! Well, Apple did at any rate. If learning a whole new OS wasn’t such a daunting thought, and if the equipment was being given away for free….SoapBox

If that is Windows 10 Pro, you can block automatic updates. I don't think it is possible on the other versions of 10 though. I rarely use Windows myself, only when I have no choice, so can't recite the steps necessary off top of my head. But if you are interested, a Google search should find the instructions for blocking the automatic updates.

Thanks for the good wishes.  My father-in-law passed away earlier this evening.  I don't think my wife got there in time, but they were trying to keep him technically "alive" until she got there.  That would be some comfort to her.

Good evening Diners!  Cheese and Broccoli soup sounds about right, and a strong black coffee please.

To more pleasant things.  The time has come to upgrade the room lighting at the train end of the basement. So, that happened today. One advantage of a layout on castors is that it can be rolled (or slid, since not all the castors were turning) easily to give access to the ceiling where two new 4” – 2bar fluorescent fittings were to go.  These photos don’t really capture the extent of the move, but this is where the “benchwork “ would be with no aisles
And here’s the whole thing, taken from that same corner, and shifted as far as possible towards the other end of the room The finished lighting install is like this
and is giving me much better light as I type this too. Thumbs UpThumbs Up
Now that half the turnouts are wired, and a connection fault with my stationary decoder found and fixed, I had a go running a train, only to find more glitches at turnouts. So progress will be bit by bit, sorting out continuity issues and rail alignment troubles one by one – all the while wiring in more turnouts as time permits. There will come a day, there really will, when I can do more than just have a train go round and round….
…and that folks is an early warning signal, 2½ months, give or take. Well, give anyway!
DC Jim:
Thanks for posting the layout / structure photos you y’all – it’s more encouraging than you can know. Great to see excellent modeling. Bow Time to climb the wooden hill; ‘night all. Prayers for all in need. Angel

Evening Diners,

I washed the dogs this morning. Charlie decided to poop on the street right before a car was arriving, I quickly ran back to sidewalk. Later on I found out that his feet was covered and a little later on, on his tail in poop too.

I Murray a bath also just in case. Sometimes they side by side and also the leashes.

Train News: I decided to buy the small grain elevator from Branch Line Trains on a EBay for $26.00 with free shipping. Now I need to get grain bins but that's for another time from Rix. I hope to get the 30' ones.

Edit: Top of the page. It seems I'm very lucky. Flo pay for the beverages.

Evenin' Diners

We are enjoying near-record warmth here in NE Ohio! 82° (28°C) there's a cooling trend on its way...

Flo, how about a nice peach melba like they used to serve on the New York Central? Coffee to follow... Thanks!

Ken, I was just going by your original statement about the hoppers, nothing mentioned about "Covered"

cudaken
But I have a 30 car hopper train that needs to get the barley and hops to the brewey! was looking for a Bessemer caboose I will add.

Here's the spare B&LE 'boose I have if you'd like it. You're right, they are pretty scarce!

I don't recall who made it but it is really bright! You'll need to tone down the color with some weathering. NO you can't have the box car!! Whistling

http://www.railpictures.net/photo/278782/

When you open Decoder Pro you can choose programming track or program on main after you select the locomotive address from your roster, Ken. The button is in the lower right of the main screen.

Thanks for the compliments on the concrete work, fellas! Playing with all that Sculptamold on the layout paid off!

Train Front:

I finally ran trains last night after spending a few days making some wiring modifications/improvements. I should get busted for bad train handling, though. I had TWO break-in-twos on a seventy-car freight! In one case the trip pin fell out and I had to retrieve it with my new "Magnet" car (Thanks to RR_Mel's ideaYes) in the other case it was the poorly designed draft gear of the Intermountain box car. There's only a tiny plastic pin that presses the coupler box to the car floor! No screws, just a press-fitThumbs Down.

I picked up three of the Rapido New Haven 8600 coaches and they arrived yesterday. Pretty sharp! Outstanding details and—as Jason likes to point out— especially the underframe and interior! The lighting sure is bright but I do remember these cars did have pretty bright fluorescent lights!

Well, there's a gentle rain falling and I hear the layout calling...

On to the trains!

My thoughts and prayers to Mr. B and all others in need...Angel

Regards, Ed

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be most welcome at the moment...

MisterBeasley, my prayers for your wife that she may arrive in time to hold his hand one last time.........  My prayers also to you and yours during this time!

When my wife passed many years ago, she held on until 5 minutes after her sister arrived from California....  She went in to see her, came back out on was followed by a nurse saying she was gone.  Sigh

Been a very warm day for mid October here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Got up to 82°F by mid afternoon.  Low will be 57°F tonight and the high tomorrow 68°F.  Then for the next 14 days it should be all of mid 50° for the highs.  We are having what some are saying is an "Indian Summer" now except that doesn't happen until after the first killing frost.  Peas will be in blossom within a few more days, so I hope the frost stays away for a couple more weeks.

Quote for the day:

“Last of all came the cat, who looked round, as usual, for the warmest place, and finally squeezed herself in between Boxer and Clover; there she purred contentedly throughout Major's speech without listening to a word of what he was saying.”
George Orwell, Animal Farm

Have a great night!

Uh yea... sorry for the typo gang. It should ahve read clever, not cleaver. Not sure what I'd want with a Cleaver name unless I was a butcher and was looking to open a butcher shop.

There are plenty of good Cleaver names--Ward, June, Wally, and, of course, Beaver.

J Powel from your signature, its heartbreaking when a pet dies. Dogs only live around 15 years so i have had several just super dogs, I hope we will be reunited in heaven.

I always get another dog as fast as I can, did you ever get another?

Actually it's a long long story. When I got my dog bacn in Jan of 2000, I was still living at home. I then met my ex wife adn every place we lived, we couldn't have dogs, let alone cats. So there he stayed. It wasn't until the last place we lived at in 2004-05 that we could have them bring him over for vistis. However, my ex didn't like that at all so he only came over once or twice while we lived there. We split in early 05 and the apartment I moved in to, all I could have was cats. Well that turned out to be ok cause about 3 weeks after she moved into her new condo and got her new furniture, the cat we adopted for her son in 2004 began to claw and tear up her new leather couch. Well the cat came to live with me and eventually on to my house. He passed away in December 2013 and I got 3 baby kittens the week of Christmas 2013. They're siblings, a male (Matteo) and 2 females (Matilda and Baby). As for Hunter, he was attached to "grandma" (my mom) and when I moved out of my apartment into my house 8yrs ago, there was no way I could take him from mom. So there he stayed until the day we put him down in June of 2010. I know I will see both Hunter (the dog) and Chopper (the cat) at The Rainbow Bridge when my time comes.

On the Amazon Storefront side - Between needing to talk to a lawyer, call my accountant back tomorrow, come up with a business name, file for my dba, and insurance, I've got ALOT to do. Not to mention the course I signed up for almost a month ago that I have not even sat down to work on. So, if anyone has a good cleaver name for an online retail business, let me know. I'm stumped and sure could use the help.

Hi, JPowell,

I understand what you're talking about with your Amazon Storefront, and as of yet, that discussion is OK here. But as Forum admin I'm obligated to warn you not to let this discussion wander over that very thin line into the realm of promotion. We don't allow advertising on the Forums, not even in signatures. So I'm afraid if anyone wants to know how to find your shop once it's up and running, they'll have to ask you via PM. Sorry, but them's the rules.

Not looking to break the rules here Steve. And I never thought of promoting it here. Thanks for the heads-up too. I was just looking to get ideas for a name is all. Sorry. I will remove that from my posts if you want me to.... just let me know.

I presume you mean clever rather than cleaver. A name depends a lot on what you are planning to market. If you can give a general idea on that vein, a suggestion is possible.

Uh yea... sorry for the typo gang. It should ahve read clever, not cleaver. Not sure what I'd want with a Cleaver name unless I was a butcher and was looking to open a butcher shop. Big Smile

Anyways, good evening gang. Hope all is well with everyone this evening.

Chloe - how about a nice big hot fudge sundae? Um, yes, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry on top. Hold the sprinkles (or jimmies depending on where you're from). Thanks. Oh.. flavor ice cream? Um... how about Cookies N Cream? Thanks!

MRR Front - Still at a standstill. Still dreaming.

Amazon Business Front - Still working on coming up with a name.

Landscaping Business Front - May have a potential mowing customer for next week. Too bad I'm booked solid this week at Wegmans. And if it wasn't going to rain this weekend, I'd prolly have it done before next week rolls around. Speaking of rain, boy do we need it. This area is in a drought and they say we could get about 3-4 inches of rain between Thursday and Sunday! Surprise

Wegmans Work Front - Busy, Busy! Actually had a surprise from one of the young ladies who stopped in to shop... in the form of some flirting. Thumbs Up She knows one of the ladies who works the coffee bar in my store so I'm assuming that she is a regular. Let's hope that she is... Big Smile

Anyways gang, I'm off to the corner booth to eat my sundae, watch some trains roll by and do some research on potential Amazon business names.

Take care!

Not a good day here.  I just put my wife on a plane for Florida.  Her Dad is 99 and went into hospice last week.  I don't know why, but they never gave anyone any indication of how much longer he had.  She talked to the nurses right there, who probably have a better idea than anyone, and they said, "If you get here tonight, you may get a chance to hold his hand before he goes."

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
