We had a party for my cousin this past Saturday. It was her 80th birthday. She's 4 years older than I am, & we are the 2 oldest on that side of the family. We had a great time as her kids put together a terrific slide show of family going back to the late 30s. Lots of memories & laughter. It's kind of sad when thinking of all those who have passed, but a lot of joy in the memories of all the good times never the less.
Got 4 hours of railfanning in on Sunday. 15 trains with foreign power for Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific & BNSF sprinkled in among the NS power. One of the mixed freights had a smaller tank car labled Nitric Acid which I found interesting. It was the first time I've seen a tank car other than crude oil with the end shields. I'll be curious to see if the shields start showing up with some regularity on cars other than crude oil.
Yesterday I installed a new battery in my laptop, which I've had for a little over 6 years. The old one wouldn't hold a charge, but worked fine as long as it was plugged in. I did a little shopping on the internet, & saved quite a bit over what the laptop's manufacturer was selling replacement batteries for. I have been fully charging & discharging the new battery to optimise it. The old one may have lasted longer if I had done that more often. I really don't use my laptop much on battery power. Suppose I'll just have to get in the habit of cycling the battery more often.
Looks like there won't be any railfanning this coming Saturday either. The wife has a baby shower to attend. And speaking of babies, we are waiting on word from my nephew & his wife, they are expecting any day now. They live in South Carolina, so I have no idea when we will see the newest addition to the family.
It's 78 outside right now and very humid. But there is a little breeze, so it's not too uncomfortable. Well, better go & finish up the last load of laundry. Take care & enjoy your day.

Hey all
very busy at w**k today so I will leave you with the qoute and history for today:

Well, LION does not think that this exactly so. I am sure that MR would be happy to sell him a box in the right hand column. Not that it will do him much good, my firewall tends to block those sorts of things. If your adds were coming as part of your webpage, the would work, but from a third party source... eh... my firewall is smartter than that.
Maybe you can add a 'directory' to the right column, where forum members may buy a few lines of advertizing.

Not to mention the course I signed up for almost a month ago that I have not even sat down to work on. So, if anyone has a good cleaver name for an online retail business, let me know. I'm stumped and sure could use the help.

Hi, JPowell,
I understand what you're talking about with your Amazon Storefront, and as of yet, that discussion is OK here. But as Forum admin I'm obligated to warn you not to let this discussion wander over that very thin line into the realm of promotion. We don't allow advertising on the Forums, not even in signatures. So I'm afraid if anyone wants to know how to find your shop once it's up and running, they'll have to ask you via PM. Sorry, but them's the rules.

Good morning ...... Coffee and a cinnamon roll please.
FR RY ..... Your building s looking great ! I'm looking forward to seeing the final results.
Ray .... The apple pie was well deserved I'm sure .... But did you have eat the whole pie? ! ! ! ! LOL
Dennis .. Glad to hear your new dentures are working well. Like many people, you outlive your original teeth.
MLC (Moe Larry Curley) .... Because you are only 50 or so miles away, we should sometime get together. If you have time for a layout tour here at the lake, let me know.
Not much progress to report. Yesterday, I replaced a turnout which had big problems. Also, I repaired another turnout with little problems.
Happy model railroading, everybody !

I presume you mean clever rather than cleaver. A name depends a lot on what you are planning to market. If you can give a general idea on that vein, a suggestion is possible.
Hobby Front: Per my statement of earlier, here are the promised pictures of the engine house before it will be painted. The awnings that will go over the doors that can be seen in the left hand house picture (2nd in the string) as well as the windows will not be installed until the building and the roofs are painted. (The building will be Apple Barrell Light Mocha; the color of the roofs hasn't been decided yet and the windows, the awning supports, the personnel and engine house doors are SCII NP Dark Green, which is one of the colors of the tourist railroad using it.) There are parts that I bought online and there are parts that Garry sent me that I used to build this. The front of the engine house, as you can probably see, is a kitbash. (Eight different pieces counting the engine house door which won't be installed until after the building is painted.) There are a few more styrene pieces that are on order that will be installed before the final paint goes on.
Evening Diners
Flo, Ed and I will have a please.
Work Front Yep, a slow day.
gmpullmanIf you promise to be a good boy, Ken and try not to get mad at me anymore maybe I'll send another package your way with a Bessemer Bay window caboose in it
Ed what do you consider being good? Far has the caboose that would be great. I am gussing there are not a lot of Bessemer rolling stock out there. I have played with the Reveb a little and do like the effect. I have not messed with the EQ yet but I will. Engine sounds are very high pitch. Gets on my nevres quickly.
gmpullmanAre there any hops left in those hoppers when they get to the brewery? They're awfully light and fluffy to carry in an open-top car
Do you think I am as dumb as I look Ed? (don't answer that) I use Covered Hopper!
gmpullmanDoesn't the ops mode programming work on your Decoder Pro?
Ed Can you use the PR3 and decoder pro while running on the main line? Way I do it is start decoder pro, turn it to stand a lone setting then places the engine on the programing track.

Yes I said me. I'm going through a rough patch in life, more on the mental side of things than the physical side. Yes, I will be ok. And yes, I am getting professional help for the problem(s). It's also why I have not been in the last few days.

Nice weather we are having here in Upstate NY. Was in the mid 70's yesterday, low 70's today, and they're calling for 82 for the high tomorrow (fwiw, the record high for tomorrow in Syracuse is 83). The, rain for most of the rest of the week and abck to more normal temps for this time of year (50's for daytime highs and upper 30's to low 40's for overnight lows)
On the MRR front - Nothing to report
On the WORK front - Wegmans is keeping me pretty busy with 30-35 hours a week. Although if this was summertime, our college kids would be eating up some of those hours and I'd only be working 20 or so hours per week vice what I'm getting now. My store has the busiest Pharmacy in the Syracuse region of 8 stores. We fill over 1,000 scripts a day in store followed by another 1200+ a day that we send out to a "fill" facility in Buffalo that is ran by a major pharmacutical supplier.
On the Landscaping Business side - Not much to report. About to wrap things up for the season in the next few weeks.
Anyways, thanks for letting me rant this evening.
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

Afternoon Diners,
I found a website called Gas Buddies. So I can place a gas station or oil distribution by the name if any.
I know its modern but it's a head start what's around the area in the midwest. I have to figure out if I back date if I see pictures.

Recovering from two busy days at the Museum over the weekend. Had a very unusual thing happen to me out there yesterday. I like to kid around with the guests on board the Erie Caboose at times. Since the kids were able to pick a tiny little pumpkin up at the "Pumpkin Patch" in the upper yard for the rides this month. I would often ask folks who were carrying the little tiny pumkins for their kids, "What time will the pie be done?" Of course you wouldn't get enough from one pumpkin to even make a tart... While detraining in the lower yard I asked that question to a "grandmother" and she replied, "Sorry, no pumpkin pie today, but I do have an apple pie ready..." We loaded the next bunch of visiters on the train and did the next round trip. After we got the people off the train the next time we arrived in the lower yard (by the Depot), there stands the lady, next to her is the Museum president and a couple other volunteers with big grins on their faces.... They open the gate and in comes the lady..... with the apple pie which she presented to me as a present!
Tonight I will get to hear my granddaughter #2 sing with a small group of other second graders at the School Board Meeting. It is a special song for the Superintendent of Schools I guess. That should be fun!

I just don't attend much of anything that requires a tie. (Considering in this neck of the woods, black jeans are considered formal wear.)
Hobby Front: I got the last two crossings installed yesterday. If the weather holds, I will get all four of them painted this upcoming Sunday. (Getting close to the drop dead point for working directly on the layout. Unheated storage building on the ranch.) I also dabbling into getting my hills covered with trees. I have the ground foam left over from the failed furnace filter tree project. I'm going a different approach on the trees: the branches from Christmas tree wreathes. The few that I have done have turned out pretty good looking at least to me. I will need to get a small pair of scissors to clip a few of the "needles" that are hanging beyond the ground foam. The cutters I'm using to rough trim the needles before I put the ground foam are a little heavy for that fine of work. I also bought tow packages of the Woodland Scenics tree armatures. (Next part of the forestry project.) I also hope to maybe get the new engine house ready for paint this afternoon/evening. (And yes, I will post pics before it goes to the paint shop.)

Spent most of teh weekend w**king the yard. We cleared , scraped, painted 400' of three board fence, pushed over, cut up two trees and buried them, removed three rotten fence post and replaced them, rehung a metal gate, picked up and unloaded 1.5 truck loads of mulch, hooked up the new drier, bush hogged along the property line, dug 100' of ditch and repiared my wifes excercise equipment PHEW !!! Had to come back to w**k to get some rest !!
Jim - Welcome to the diner glad you could make it in !!
Lion - Is that furr all over the sticky buns ?
Ed - Nice shot of Church hill and the President. Bet you had to click that shutter quick !!
Dave - Sorry for the loss. Glad you at least got to enjoy the drive with teh leaves changing color.
Ken - Where is that photo taken with the N&W under the shed ? Hey you may want to watch the use of the unfavable word - Work - You know some of the retired staff around here gets offended ! Maybe try W**k ? Is that what that smell was ? I thought it was some bad burritos ???
Mr. B - Nice glad you are back to w**king on the layout !
MoeLarry - Flo set em up with DRRP until he cant drink anymore ! Where do you find parts for the old equipment ?
Garry - i am here !
V8 - Man I hate that when it happens. My truck when I first bought it I went out to start it then went inside. When I came back it had locked itself and me out !!!
Mike - You poured concret all of those years ! That stuff will make an old man of you quick. I have back injuries for only doing it about seven years ! You must be one tough cookie !
JKlo - You just got married two weeks ago ? Congrats !
Howmus - That is going to be a BIG Expensive project. We had to clean up a fuel oil spill from a leaking fuel tank. It cost about 60 k just for a 1/4 acre area.
Qoute and History for today
Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens. The mere Politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connexions with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked, Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in Courts of Justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."
George Washington's Farewell Address, Sept. 17, 1796
I shall have great advantage over you, Mr. Gerry, when we are all hung for what we are now doing (signing of the declaration of Independence ). For the size and weight of your body you will dance in the air an hour or two before you are dead. Benjamin Harrison

Jim in DC ... .. You have a common first name, so if you don't mind, I will call you "DC Jim". ... Sounds like you lead an interesting life.
Lion ... Are there any sticky buns left? Sounds good to me. .
Ed .... You did well with your driveway project.
Here is a photo in the City of Heartland on my layout.
Welcome to the Forums, and to the Diner, Jim!
The LION (and the entire council of Felids) is running amok among the Sticky Buns, making the snewspapers all gooey and in general makning a menace of themselves.
Help yourself to the leftovers.
PS. LION cleand all (well most) of his tracks. LION will need to consider some sort of an automaic track cleaning device that will not derail, and will not also foul with the third rails, and other between rail apertances such as the reed switches.
Howdy folks!
Always saw all the cars in the parking lot and wanted to come in and try the grub, but never was able to get closer than looking in the window. Finally got a chance to today, courtesy of Washington DC 's numerous traffic jams. Flo, I'll have the farmers breakfast with the largest OJ you have.
Currently at wrk taking a very sweet young lady into Childrens National Medical Center in DC. After a long night in the ER, both she and her father sleeping soundly, her vital signs are great, so I just need to make sure everything stays that way.
Back in the 70's I did some N scale modeling, until girls, college, and being a "productive member of society" got in the way. Jump ahead to last November when I bought a larger Christmas Tree. The old Christmas village didn't fit under the larger tree, so I had the bright idea to make a new setup, using my old trains. B-I-G mistake! The train bug didn't just bite me, it dragged me around the neighborhood several times before dropping me off in front of my computer and eBay. Let's just say that my credit card company likes me........ A LOT!
The original Christmas village sort of fell by the way side, but hope to finalize the design for a layout in the basement shortly. Just in time for the winter building season.
On the prototype side, I participated in a Mass Casualty drill two weekends ago involving VRE, Amtrak, and CSX. Had some interesting conversations with some of the crews afterwards.
I'm around 5 minutes away from Childrens, so I'd better finish up my food and get on the road.
Jim
Good Morning, fellow Diners! Happy Monday to all
Chloe, do the folks here know how to make a Boston Cream Pie? Shoo Fly pie is the favorite down here? Well, sounds good! I'll take a rain-check on Ken's beer and maybe have a Kahlúa and Cream later...
There's been a lot of discussion here about the Tsunami sound decoders, Ken. It turns into a Ford vs. Chevy debate but most users agree that the sound levels need to be boosted, especially the horn. Tsunami's have an equalizer and reverb to play with, too. Sometimes messing with those will get a little more oomph out of the horn section.
cudakenBut I have a 30 car hopper train that needs to get the barley and hops to the brewey! was looking for a Bessemer caboose I will add.
If you promise to be a good boy, Ken and try not to get mad at me anymore maybe I'll send another package your way with a Bessemer Bay window caboose in it
Are there any hops left in those hoppers when they get to the brewery? They're awfully light and fluffy to carry in an open-top car .
Setting the sound volume on the fly is a lot more involved that I'm willing to type here, Ken! They are indexed CVs so you have to set CV49 to 0 then set CV51 to the sound level 0 to 127. Doesn't the ops mode programming work on your Decoder Pro?
mbinsewiSo, you doing this by yourself ? ! Wish I could be there to help you !
Mike! Perfect timing... job's all done!
I try to offer my help just at the precise moment (especially for stuff like moving furniture or fixing appliances) when I'm sure the job has been finished. Aw gee, you should have called me... My nephew helped me. He's a finisher for Local 404 in Cleveland. As you can see it turned out pretty good! We did a little 6 x 8 pad in the back, too! Next time I'll call you before the job is done!
You're right about the fall colors, Dave. I thought maybe the dry, hot summer would have ruined the color but it really poped here in the last week, too. We pressed 85 gallons of cider two weekends ago The wasps invited themselves to the party, too! Ouch!
I grabbed a quick shot of the Ferdinand Magellan...
From left, Clementine and Winston Churchill, the Pullman Porter, Eleanor and—more interested in the NYC Mohawk—Mr. Roosevelt. They were passing by at a pretty good clip so the photo is a little blurry. FDR is entertaining the Churchills during their visit to the U.S. in December, of 1941.
Enjoy your day, everyone!
Regards, Ed
Dianne and I had to drive to Minden, Ontario on Friday for a funeral visitation. That's not the greatest reason to be on the road, but the fall colours were absolutely incredible!!! We had gone for a colour drive the previous Friday but the trees had barely started to change. Well, what a difference a week makes! I think these might have been the best fall colours I have ever seen!
The vibrant fall colours may have had something to do with a very dry summer. I know that apple producers in the eastern part of the province are saying that their produce is amongst the sweetest they have ever had. Some of the European varigrants are producing fantastic new tastes that they have never experienced before. Good excuse to get out and buy some fresh cider. At least order one when you are in the diner next!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Flo, Ed, Larry, Moe, Curly and I will have a please.
Work Front While it was slow, it was a good day.
Train Front Spent a lot of time speed matching engines and writting CV's with Decoder-Pro. Got the Bessmer SD 7 from Ed speed matched to the new Bessmer SD 7 PK 2000 with sound. Luckly the Ed SD 7 was faster than the new one with Tsunami decoder. Far as I know, you cannot not adjust the speed of the Tsunami? First engine with sound I had to crank up the voulme to 100% to get it to sound right?
Ed Does the manual for the F7's list what CV's to use to change the volume on the fly in Op mode? I played with there sound levels but just not quit the way I would like them to be.
I repair antuque radios, recordplayers and vintage sudio equip as another hobby/ side job.
Larry, Moe and Curly Know any thing about Adom gear? I had been running Adcom 555's amps bridge mono and started too get a lot of dirt in the sound. So I went with a single 555, but dropped the left channel. So if you happen to be looking for some extra stuff to play with, let me know. I all so need to re-faom my Dalquest DQ 10 speakers, any leads on the foam be sides E-Bay?
Aduiophile Ken, posting again.
I worked on my layout!
First time in a long time. Maybe it's the approach of winter. Anyway, I put plaster cloth down on a couple of liftoff sections that will cover the staging tracks. It's all destined to be undeveloped woodlands. I may decide to get myself some deer.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I listed a few freight cars for the my branch line. But its harder to write down than looking at them knowing what you want.
Good afternoon,
YGW Sorting is well sorting, putting the like stuff with like stuff.
The reel to reel. I repair antuque radios, recordplayers and vintage sudio equip as another hobby/ side job. We have a friend who was manager to a bunch of old blues men in the 1960's and 70's he found a bunch of reel to reel recordings he wants transferred. So I got a reel to reel to transfer these recordings.
Back to repairing the voice coil on one of the speakers on the wife's car.
Good morning, V8 Dennis. Where is everybody else ?
I'll have coffee and a donut, please.
We just returned from a short trip to Cincinnati.... Time to work on the layout.
I'll catch up on everybody's posts later. .... Cheers.

V8VegaLast night here at home I managed to lock my keys in the car, 2nd time in a couple of weeks. Whenever I get a new car I always bailing wire a extra key someplace under the car so I can get that. Still I need to be more careful, I am going to say to myself, I have the keys from now on everytime I lock the car.
One of the most useful things I learned in Driver Ed in high school. Even now with electric everything, I NEVER lock the car with the buttons. I always use the key fob.
Wife? Nope. Locks it from the buttons inside every time. I've had to drive over with the extra key a few times.
