Good Afternoon!
After a bright and sunny start, the day has turned into a dull and grey one again. Still no sign of Spring
I had my meeting with the ticker doc and his vampires this morning. They ran their entire rather sadistic program with me, including drawing a gallon of my blood from my veins. The results will be available by Monday afternoon. I don´t know whether I am feeling better or not.
Here I sit, fat and dumb, contemplating life ...
Oh no! Stop the press!
When I came home there was a parcel containing some of the scenic stuff I ordered a week ago - just a rattle can of paint and two small bag of WS Fine Turf - "Weeds" and Yellow Grass". I sprinkled some of that schtuff over the existing green and sprayed the lot with my home brewed scenic cement - a mixture of white glue, detergent and water. While that was drying, I coverec the layout in a cut-up plastc bag with only those blue-green fir trees looking out. I sprayed them with Tamiya`s Drab Olive from the rattle can, followed by a generous spray coat with my brew and more trhan just a sprinkle of WS Blended Turf. The trees look much better, the blueish hue is gone, and they have a better texture.
There is an order of more fir trees on its way, but that will be it for a while, as I have already spent the April budget.
Ken - MBH (my better half) is just the other way around. Everything has to be neat and tidy 24/7. The whole apartment gets dusted & vacuumed daily, the kitchen is immediately cleaned up after each meal. You won´t find anything just laying around without a purpose. As much as I like things neat and tidy, there are times when I can´t avoid messing thisngs up. This is when I get "the look" and I tell ya, you don´t want that!
Talking of "the look" - I earned it today. The paint was rather smelly ...
OK, that´s all for now - I´ll hide out in the backbooth!
Good morning ..... Happy Soldiers Day ! ... Get it? March Fourth (Forth). .. Rim shot ! ........ Oh never mind.
Henry ... Nice photo of the eagles nest. ... I took the pictures below from our house a few years ago. Eagles used to sit in a dead tree on our property. Eventually, storms knocked down the old tree, and now we don't see the eagles as often.
Ulrich ... Your layout is prgressing very nicely. It is good we have doctors to solve our medical problems, but sometimes their tests are not fun.
Have a great day, everybody !

Good morning! Drab and gray here, too, with some light snow but nothing is accumulating. I seriously think that side of winter is over for us. It will be in the 60s here next week, with no snow predicted.
Ken, my wife's not a hoarder, but she's certainly collected enough stuff. She likes to decorate, and in her years as an art teacher she's piled up an awful lot of art supplies. I've reached the point where I will not clean up my workroom or even my office, because her idea of "organizing" is to move her stuff into any vacant space she can find, and then collect more stuff.
We used to know a guy in town who was far worse. He worked for Goodwill or the Salvation Army or some group like that who would refurbish furniture and appliances. "Garbage picking" is technically illegal here, but he actually had a permit to do just that. It sounds like a good thing, but he didn't just find used, serviceable items to be recycled. If Goodwill didn't want it, he took it home himself. His house was full of broken toasters and lamps. His yard was full of old furniture under tarps, junk cars and even an old school bus.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Afternoon folks...
Chloe, I'll have a Reubin Sandwich with the obligatory dill pickle, potato chips, and a pot of decaf to warm me up...
Already been out do'in stuff today. Was going to drive over to Seneca Falls to the Country Max Store to try to buy a birdhouse kit for Granddaughter #2' birthday tomorrow and then go directly to the fieldhouse for my walk.... Right, like that worked out well! Country Max didn't have the Birdhouse Kit in stock, but they found one for me in Palmyra, NY. I thought about it for a bit and since I already have to drive most of the way to Palmyra today to get a signature for a Boy Scout new leader application and drive to Newark for that, I had them put the Bird House asside for me. With that in mind and a long list of other stuff I absolutely need to get done today I didn't stop at the Fieldhouse. I will try to get in a walk tomorrow before the Birthday Party... Have no idea what time it will be, only that there is one in the morning for her someplace with her friends and classmates and then a later one for family.
Barry, WOW! What is the old saying... "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all...." Hope that gets beat back real quick!!!
Catch you all later!

Afternoon gang! Hope all is well with everyone. Prayers to those in need.
I'm in a great mood today. After having a disability compensation claim in the VA system for the last 8 months, I was just informed by the VA that I have a disability rating of 50%. To me, that's good news. It means that will now get a monthly tax-free disability compensation check for injuries I sustained while in the military for the 22+ years I served.
yougottawanta - Same one that I have been dating since last June.
Anyways, I'm off to do some chores around the house.
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
Afternoon folks!
Back from my travels around the area. Got the application signed and ready to deliver to the District Executive and bought the Birdhouse Kit for Granddaughter #2. Back here getting some NMRA business done, or at least trying to....
Lovin' the Bald Eagle photos! Here is a photo that we think is a Juvenile Osprey that we found in a tree back to the Church parking lot a few years ago. I had sveral local scientists from the Cornell U Agricultural Experiment Center involved trying to ID the bird. Turns out one guy over there is an expert in Raptors and told us right off it is a Juvenile Osprey... Good enough for me. The other possibility is that it is a juvenile Red tailed hawk, but it would have to be a really big one!
We had a 50 year old captive (can't fly) Bald Eagle brought in to Science and Technology Camp at our Boy Scout Camp about a decade ago..
There are 6 breeding pairs over in the Montezuma National Refuge just past Seneca Falls, NY
cudaken My wife is a Hoarder! I am sick of living like this! Crap every where, boxes in the dinning room, boxes in the laundry room, boxes in the family room. All of the closet's are full with her stuff, second bedroom is full of boxes to the point you cannot walk in there! Dresser is full all but one drawer that has my socks and underware in it! My clothes hang on the back of doors and doorway molding! Whie not as bad as seen on TV, it is heading that way. I swear if we had a 4000 sq foot house and I gave her money she could fill it up! Guess it is time to seek some help for us.

Ken, as the son of a military man, let me give you some advice: Move. My parents used to say that moving three times is the same as having a house fire once.
Our rule is, if you haven't touched it in two years, it goes in one of three piles: 1) stuff to throw away, 2) stuff to sell, and 3) stuff to donate to charity.
Or you can sort things the way my mom does: 1) stuff you definitely need, 2) stuff you definitely don't need, and 3) stuff that might come in handy some day. Then you throw away the last two piles, because you're kidding yourself about pile no. 3.
On the health front, I've been out of work for the past three days, which explains why you haven't seen a whole lot of newbie posts on the Forums. (I do all the moderating.) But I'm feeling mostly better now. Wife is still suffering, but she's always had a harder time with colds and such. For some reason medicine doesn't work on her.
Anyway, glad to be back in the new Diner! Zoe, slide a bowl of butter pecan frozen custard down my way...

Afternoon..
They have taken a culture out of me...and I am still stuck with IV tubes stuck to me...for now...
Had wife up with sister and BIL to visit....now they have left and I am waiting...hah!!...for supper.
Still, leaving on Tuesday...barring unforseen surprises.
My house is relatively clean...excepting the cobweb riddled effects racks and the general fuzziness from Lucy...the mixer queen.
Best wishes to you, Barry.
Bah! Did I get this cold at the Diner?
If I weren't sick right now I'd be heading out to the local tavern for some India Pale Ale on draft and a good band. Instead, it will be drinking water and trying to find something to numb my mind on television.
At least the weather is warming up. I've got some spray painting to do, and it looks like the weather may co-operate next week to do the work outdoors and not risk the Wrath of SWMBO with paint-spray odors.
I won't be doing the work on the Rivet Counter, though, that's for sure. I've got a pair of switchers, an S-1 and and SW8, all in black and decorated for the Erie and the Lackawanna, respectively. I am going to transfer them to the Milwaukee with some orange paint and decals. But, the Milwaukee never owned either engine, so there will be some imagination involved.
Chloe, just a cuppa joe,
I got roast beef, yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes in the oven - well actually different ovens - its a temprature thang - as they say in the south.
It's gonna be cold tonight here in the south - not compared to the north - but cold anyhow. That roast dinner should keep us warm.
I do detect the summer around the corner - we don't tend to get spring here. Freezing cold and then 100 degrees the next day.
Then I have to run the air-conditioner in the garage so I can play with my trains.
Chris.
Loco Guy - is a state of mind - not an affinity to locomotives.
Sit back and enjoy your track...
Steven. Glad your cold is improving and I hope Mrs Otte's cold improves very soon.
Barry, Ulrich, Galaxy, YGW, and others. Prayers for improving health .
Earlier, we were talking about Eagles. About an hour after posting my old photos of one, I saw a bald eagle in a tree on our property .
Ray .. Local people hear call the Ospreys "bridge Eagles" because they nest on the bridges. They use large stocks for nests.
Evening Dinners
Flo please.
Work Front
Train Front Took the time to take apart my PK2000 B&O GP 30 that looked like it had a Green House in the cab. Covered the light bar with electrical tape on the bottom (Cap celing spell check) and the sides of the bar. I will be darned, it still looks like there is a Green House in the cab!

Steve My rule is if you have not used it in a year, you don't need it. Hum, unless it is a tool, Mopar Engine Parts or model train stuff. Think it is time to re-think the train and car engine parts.
I have more project train stuff than I can shake a stick at. I have two old Athearn Am Track FP-45 shells I will never use. Guess I will need to see what I really have and don't need and see if someone here at the dinner can use them.

to those in need
Have a good night....I'm off to
Hi Everyone.....Feeling a lot better than I was the last couple weeks....finally.. the flu' I had is leaving...but this is the first time, that I really felt bad, I mean bad...at My age though I'm told that it is expected. So a friendly reminder to All....don't waste any time seeking help.
On a sad note....I havn't checked on one of My best friend's for a few days, who lives right next to Me, due to Me being sick. His older brother stopped by My house yesterday and asked Me if I heard from Dave, My friend. So we both walked next door and I have the keys to His house, walked in and found Dave dead on His kitchen floor.....from the looks of things....He had to be gone at least for 24hrs. I still can't get over that. He was a year older than Me...74. Spent the rest of the day trying to contact His Son & Daughter. This is the fourth time for Me, but it's still impacts Me.
God Bless You All!
Frank

GO AHEAD, MAKE MR. OTTE'S DAy!
WAKE UP ! WAKE UP ! ITS S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y !!!!!!!!!!!! Hurray for the WEEKEND time to do fun things like Run trains and modeling !!!!!
Galaxy - you know I wondered the same thing ! How can you throw, donate or ...anything model railraod ? Isnt that against nature ? Isnt that against some terrible law with life and death consequesnces ????
BO Cylinder - So is that what is still in my bed ? Its you !!! Wondering what that lumpy feeling was ! Hope you get better soon and get home to modeling !
Ken - Will go out in the mail today. See PM. Have you tried painting the inside of the cab black ?
Chris - that is so true freezing cold to instant hot I think I remember one "spring" that lasted three days in the last thirty years.
Mr. B - is that an imagination machine ?
Steve Ott - Do you all have a product up there called "Cold-EZE" ? They sell them down here everywhere in Walmarts, CVS, Drugstores... it works wonders. It is like a cough drop but it isnt. If you suck on a few of these at the beginning of a cold you will be amazed at how fast the flu/cold will go away .
JPowell - When you were discharged didnt they know then that you were wounded/disabled ? Geez that is EXACTLY why I dont want Gov. involved in my health care !
Garry - I told MOH your joke. She just rolled her eyes at me and said "oh my gosh!!" LOL ! We have a bunch of hawks come around here every year and they are so amazing. I hate it that so many get hit by cars- dozens of them every season -
We had an eagle around here for a short time but it died. When they studied it they found that it had eaten a bunch of rabbits that had lead pellets in them. The lead had poisened it. I can understand why the founders chose it as the national bird it is very impressive !
Well goonna finsh the laundry room remodel today. Then some train stuff, have fun !!!
ROAR
The Route of the Broadway Lion The Largest Subway Layout in North Dakota.
Here there be cats. LIONS with CAMERAS
It´s a rather dull and dark day here - lots of wind and ra*n, making even a short time outside a miserable experience!
Despite the bad weather, the gardening team decided to brave the challenge and go out and plant 45 more Faller bottle brush trees, spray paint them and sprinkle WS Blended Fine Turf over them.
Mission accomplished, room sufficiently aired and the mess cleaned up! Very well, then, carry on, Sergeant!
I think I am through now with planting fir trees. There are a handful of deciduous trees yet to come to decorate the "groud floor", but I have not yet decided whether to make or buy them. I have a couple of small bags of WS poly fiber schtuff I will eventually turn into bushes abd shrubs before I will address the tree issue.
Still lots to do on the layout!
Frank - how awful to find your friend dead in his home. !
The afternoon trains is scheduled to leave now - CUL, folks!
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buckwheat pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and a large pot of Seneca Lake blend Dark Roast coffee. Oh, bring over my FGLK mug as well... Please and Thank You Ma'am!
Ulrich, the layout keeps looking better and better! you do excellent work!
Frank, how awful to find your friend that way. One of the drawbacks to living alone... My prayers for you!
Today is Granddaughter #2s Birthday. Turning 7. Have to find some Birthday paper and finish wrappingh the gifts, and get over to the Fieldhouse for a walk.
Folks,
I don´t watch much (if any) TV these days - most of what´s up there I have either already watched or is just plain stupid. Instead, I roam the files of Youtube. Sometimes I dig up a video which I think is really worth viewing and for that matter, worth sharing!
I just found an old 1927 silent movie called "Symphony Of A City", filmed in 1926 in Berlin, the year my dad was born. The film shows not only trains, busses, streetcars of those days, but allows us to catch a glimps on everyday life of the people. The film is just by chance about Berlin, but it could have been just any place in the western hemisphere!
It´s a long film - 62 minutes, but I can only recommend to give yourself that hour and enjoy this video!
It is a sad thought, though, that none of the persons you´ll see in the film is alive today.
It is also interesting to see, how much life there was before the introduction of TV, computers, smart phones and the Internet!
I am happy to report the Laundry room remodel is FINISHED !!! Geez it was a TOUGH one. If it something could be complicated it was, blocked drier vent and installed in the wrong location, plumbing in the way of where the drier was to be installed, I cut an electric wire moving the doors....But now it complete - Finally. In the basement I spent some time uncrating my train stuff from the move and putting the items to be built in some wall cabinets that I hung up. Maybe I can get the train table cleared off and run a few tomorrow ?
Good afternoon.
Frank ... That is very sad. Prayers for your friends family.
Ulrich ... Your layout look good with the trees "planted"
Ulrich Great Video! Maybe some of the kids are still alive, but maybe a lot of the adults were probably dead a mear 20 years later.
Things that surpised me:No traffic lights and not much auto traffic relative to public transportationGreat old fashioned telephonesWomen and men going someplace en masse,,,, to work? The rolling steel doors that protected shop windows. I always assoiciated that with after the race riots here in the 60's.Shorter skirts that I would have thought, but it was the roaring twenties. At 07:45 some guy is walking his balloons?Panama straw hats, the only place I ever remember seeing Panama hats was in movies about American gangster John Dillinger (1930's)
Things that didn't surprise me: Smoking, German shepherds, top hats and no one who would be considered really obese. Canes were still in style. A glimpse of Charlie Chaplin in a movie.
What an amazing life our grandparents had. From horses as commonly used for commercial transport to men on the moon.
What would the world be like if we didn't have 2 world wars costly in money and blood. Maybe your initial thought is wrong, aircraft development would be way behind as would nuclear power and certain aspects of medical care. Maybe global warming would have done us all in a couple decades ago. Relax Vinnie, I am not saying that to be political. The 20th century was shaped by wars, as was the 19th and the 18th etc. I'm just positing "what if"

I'm still having a hard time accepting what happened....for the last 36yrs. My friend and I spent a lot of time together....I guess You can say, I am about the last of the Mohicans.....I got one close friend left.
I found a pic' of Him and I on His front porch, doing one of our past times.....sitting and having a few cocktails... His old saying '' Are You ready? Meaning, a drink. My reply would be, ''I guess so...It's gotta' be noon somewhere around here'' and what are We going to mess up today....expletives deleted.
Pic' is roughly 8yrs. old...We both lost weight after and still. He's on the left.
