 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

In a little bite of a foul mood tonight, mainly work. Customers, well lets just say I had some cabooses! All so found out Dave is telling customers he is the Manager. That sort of PO me off some but not a lot. I told the customer "Dave was the Manager but he is having a little problem excpeting the fact that I am now".

Thinking about taking down the layout again. I would love to start working on my 68 Road Runner again.

Good Sunday evening, Diners!

62f and clear. down to around 38f tonight.

My GB Packers let Da Bears get their hopes up before coming alive in the last quarter. Yay!

After the game I went downstairs and ran some trains, swapped out plastic wheels for Inter Mountain wheelsets on 5 cars and put them into service, made some trees and cleaned up/off the workbench.

Sorry for all the trials and tribulations being endured.

Cuda Ken, I've never measured all the track, but I would say there's over 400' of mainline. It's a big space, 30'x42', and all layout except for aisles and a work area. There are three penisulas. Two are 24' and one is 22'. Otherwise it's an around the walls type.

Johnboy, I almost have enough for a shipment of the same stuff I sent you before if you want it. Let me know.

That's about all for now.

Thanks everyone for your condolences.  He was a good little guy, hardly ever yowed and usually visited with his parents as we watched tv, hoping back and forth between our laps.  A few years ago, he alerted us to the presence of a bat in the house by standing and staring at the hutch like a pointer, till my wife finally looked and saw it.

Anyway, to take out my frustration, I went downstairs and built bookcases for the train room all afternoon.  As a bonus, I heard the Yankees actually win a game!  Then, when I came back upstairs, I heard Moses Malone died.  It's very sobering when the heroes of your youth die.

Today has been a very lazy boring sunday.

CNCharlie- We have a dog too and he's also stubborn, independent and playful, but lately that playfulness comes and goes. (American Pit bull)

I decided to buy some BLMA flatcars for my 80s Conrail layout. My train buying has slowed down because of the preorders that might come in November/December months. So I thought I might buy Christmas presents early before its too late.

Evening, Folks!

Just stopping by for a nightcap before hitting the hay. It´s been a rather dull and boring day - all wet & windy. I was not up too much, in fact, I did actually nothing than reading and listening to my favorite music.

Galaxy - I am pulling for you and a successfil house hunt!

CNCharlie - if we were to have a pet, it´ll be a West Highland Terrier. I like their strong, independant character, yet they are still playful.

Out again - CU all tomorrow!

Been camping at Limestone Lake for the past week without phone, TV or running water.  Saw the best Northern Lights I think I have ever seen Thursday night.  Had a very interesting experience helping my friend pull a sunken wild rice picker off the bottom of the lake using a 3x2 block and tackle rigger with 1 inch hemp rope and a WARN winch on a Yamaha Rhino quad for pulling power.  It took nine pulls to turn the picker and then pull it on shore.  Apparently the picker's haul has developed a crack in the aluminum floor.  The picker consist of a john boat, a 20 ft wide trey to collect the ripe rice, a Ford V-6 engine powering a two blade propeller that pushes the picker air boat style through the rice.  Friend was going to try to repair the leak with Bondo today so he can continue picking.

Saw the first hockey game of this season last night in Flin Flon.  Local Bombers dominated the visiting team to a 5-1 win outshooting the opponent 29 to 7.

Bob, sorry to hear about your loss of a pet having been through this experience recently.

Uhlrich, really like your new purchase.

Our summer sojourn is coming to a close.  My wife flies to D.C. next Sunday to watch the grandkids for a couple of weeks and then it is back to SE Ohio for both of us.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual extra large cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.

Taking a moment to drop in and say hello to everyone.  I'll catch up on all of the posts later.

Work going well, but very busy.  I like my job.  Haven't sold a kitchen yet, but might next week.  We'll see.  Been doing lots of quotes, though.

MOH and I went to the dollar store last night.  Got a coloring book and a pack of crayons for client's children.  It can get very boring for the little ones while Mommy is working out the design with the designer.

Well, have to go.

Hello to everyone.

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good Evening,

A very nice one too with a high tomorrow of about 85F!

Ken, thanks for the info on the tires. I was leaning towards  the Michelins and I think they are likely worth the extra cost.  I will order them next week and get them installed when the door lock is done.

Went to the bank to get a few US dollars. They now cost $1.36 Canadian which makes most things a bit pricey when shopping down your way. I won't be buying much in the RR department but really there isn't too much I need anyway. Just a couple of years ago our dollar was nearly at par.

Spent some time playing with Robbie after supper as I usually do. He sure is an amazing little dog. There was a show on TV investigating canine intelligence and they showed a dog that knew the names of 30 toys as being something amazing. Gosh our little guy has 125 and will retrieve any of them from a pile by name. If you try to trick him and give a toy the wrong name he just looks at you and waits until you get it right. We had to write them down as I can't remember them all. Even toys he hasn't seen for a year he gets right away.

Well soon time for bed,

Goodnight all,

CN Charlie

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

Work Front Luckly Dunk Dave was work at a driffrent store today and Sunday. Reason I said luckly, there was only one good customer and 5 caboose ones. They where the first folks in, (made $130.00) if Dave had beat me to the store I would have been PO all day.

Bob While I am not a cat person, I love all pets and I am sorry about you losing your Kitty.

Charlie Go with the Michelins they really make a great tire. Normally they will dry rot before they are bald. My Town Car has 2 left that where made in 2003 that still have 4/32's of tread, that is about 125,000 miles. On the other hand, I have not heard a lot of good about Continental.

Main thing I learned while I worked for NTB is look at the UT rating. It is a 3 number rating, the higher the number the longer the tread will last. Depending on how one drives, a 420 rating is good for 24,000 to 32,000 miles. 500 is good for 40,000 to 50,000 miles. Firestones I bought for the 227,000 mile Town Car have a 520 rating so 42,000 to 55,000 with the way I drive. I think the Michelin Primacy mxm4 Ut rating was around 800. That is good for 65,000 if you drive hard to 120,000 miles if they don't dry rot first.

YGW I hope the old ticker jump start went well.

 Later, Ken

PS Charlie in my Mopars I am hell of tires. Smile, Wink & Grin

Evenin Folks!

Janie, I could sure use a cup of hot chocolate right now....

Brrrrrrr!  It is damp and chilly here in the house (may turn on the heat tonight) and it is all of 62* outside with a nice steady rain which we have had most all day.  I got soaked at the museum while doing the brake test on the consist for rides after the picnic.  The PC caboose brakes decided to give a bit of trouble again, but did decide to work within a few minutes.

My sympathies and condolences on the loss of some kitties.  Galaxy, 18 is not that old for a cat.  Indoor cats can live to be in their mid 20's commonly.  My Mom's cat Sheila was (We think) 23 years old when she had to out down due to cancer which started in the thyroid.  She was never more than 7 lbs soaking wet and only weighed 3.5 lbs when she died.  The oldest living house cat in the world, I believe, is now 26 years old.... (edit: The oldest ever was 38 years old!) My boys have reached Sr. Citizens at the age of 14, and I hope (if Manét responds well to the insulin) that they will be around another 5 or so years....

Ah...  My sweet corn is done on the stove, so supper time!  Later!

Good Evening!

It´s been a rather uneventful, but pleasant day. Lots of sunshine, not too hot and a light breeze to keep the air clean - that´s the way I like it.

My favorite TV show is back on air - railroad romances. Today´s episode was about the famous Sarganska Osmica. You don´t know it and you don´t speak the Serbo-Croatian language. Sarganska Osmica means "the Sargans Mountain Eight"  describing the route of the narrow gauge line through the Serbian Mountains. The line was closed in 1974 and much of it destroyed during the Jugoslavian war in the early 1990´s, but it has been rebuilt since and serves as a major tourist attraction in an otherwise rather poor region of Serbia.

The line is the sole survivor of what was once a quite huge network of narrow gauge lines, connecting Belgrade with Sarajevo and all the way to Dubrovnik. An express train took 23 hours from Belgrade to Dubrovnik - a run of some 250 miles on 2 1/2 ft. track!

Galaxy - I know the two of you really wanted to have this house, but don´t be sad if you don´t get it. There will be lots of other opportunities!

Uncle Bob - I am sorry to hear about your loss! It´s not easy to lose a pet, which had been a companion for a long time.

Janie, I´ll stay here at the RC and enjoy aDrinks while watching who else will drop by!

The Dying kitty: ours is 17 going to be 18 soon. that is old for a kitty.

My kitty, "Tillie" was getting to be in bad shape. She was 18. I wanted to take her down to the polls sho that she could vote, but she passed away before election day.

Actually, while I was away, Br. Louie took her out back and shot her. But that was merciful for both me and the cat.

Callist is the only cat we have now. Named after Pope Callistus the First (222) she has the correct color vestments for a pope and martyr. Pope Callistus was the first to change his name when he became pope. Apparently Mercurius would not do.

Even she is 10 years old now, but in hale and good health.

Hey guys,

Bad news {but not as bad as dying kitty}: the sellers declined our best {and final though we did not say "final"} offer. so That house is OUT! Bummer.

We are actually looking clear on the other side of the city believe it or not. For our price range, many houses to choose from there, whether they are good houses or not, who knows until we LQQK...

we will see.

SO, that, along with other bad news today {again, none as bad as dying kitty}

The Dying kitty: ours is 17 going to be 18 soon. that is old for a kitty. he is shaggy long haired, so we when we noticed he was seeming to get skinnier, but eating us out of hosue nad home, we took him to the vet, Thyroid problems! The medication we asked for in liquid and it comes form NJ Via shipping. Within 3 dyas he seemed ot improve! we ahve to realize though, 17 going to be 18 is looooong time life for himMOH is NOT ready to loose him, when he goes, MOH wnats another cat, I DON'T.

Good Morning,

A bright, sunny, warm day here with a high today of about 75F which is far above the normal of 65.

Uncle Bob, sorry to hear about the loss of your kittie. Always a sad time when a pet passes away. I can certainly relate.

Ulrich, that is a very nice looking loco! I sometimes get itchy fingers when I'm on the MB Klein site but so far have largely resisted this year, well except for the mike I bought a few months ago. It has been running very well and I must say I'm impressed with BLI locos.

Not much new here. The reno guy is here right now doing a few touch ups so that we can get the countertop installed. It is finally ready to go so I'm thinking we might have the bathroom finished by mid-October, no make that Christmas. A 3 week reno stretching out to 6 months. That seems about par for the course.

Have to get some work done on the car. I can't complain as it is the first money I've had to spend on it. I just got new rear brakes and am waiting for a part as the driver door power lock has failed. That little part is $350 plus install. I also need new tires. I have narrowed the choice down to Continental PureContacts or Michelin Primacy mxm4.  Actually the dealership gave me a very reasonable quote on the Michelins. I don't use winter tires so I have to select an all season that is at least ok in snow and ice.  Still 4 tires cost a grand which is a lot of money.

Well hope everyone has an nice day.

Good morning everyone....

Zoe, I'll have a full order of bisquits & gravy, side of sausage patties and a cup of the hi-test if you would be so kind.

Well well....as soon as we get settled we have to move again....another assignment on the other side of the state closer to Oklahoma City. I should be getting the paperwork and start date shortly. I told the girls awhile back I had a feeling it was coming.

I'm talking it easy this weekend but there's a daddy / daughter night tonight. Nothing else really planned otherwise.

Have a great weekend no matter what's going on in your world....

Mornin'.....

Zoe, I'll have a couple sour cream glazed donuts and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend this morning.  Huh?  Oh yes my R&GV RR Mug would be fine.

I'm heading out to the museum soon for their annual picnic that they almost forgot about.  Have no idea how many people will be there.  Hope they have some shelter open for ius as it is going to be raining for the next 40 hours or so.  Right now it is a good steady light rain here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Galaxy should be just to the East of where the raininess is for the most part.  Currently 61°F with a high of 66°F today.  Great day for a picnic, huh folks!

I have to get showered and in my uniform (working crew) and on the road....

Uncle Bob, very sorry to hear about you kittie!  Always hard to lose those little guys that give us so much unconditional love......Sad

I'll try to stop in tonight after I get home from the Museum.

Mornin'.  Nothing for me, ladies, just stopping in for a minute.

My weekend just got off to a great start -- one of our cats died.  He'd been fighting diabetes for 5+ years and a thyroid problem for a few months, and devolved what they thing was hepatic lipidosis.  Long story short, he went from 22 lbs to 10 lbs in a matter of months, and died in the pet hospital last night.  We're headed over there in a bit to make the arrangements.  Been a hell of a year -- surgeries and other medical issues for me, and illnesses and death for one of our kitty cat kids.

Have a good day, guys.

Ken: I have a mattress question for you. My mother used to always tell us, "Don't sit on the corner of the mattress. You will break it." Any truth to the counsel?

Richard Funny you brought that up! Laugh My wife and I just had a small tiff about that a few minutes ago! Whistling Yes, it is ture, it is a mattress not a couch. We have a $5000.00 Kingsdown King sizes mattress that is bulit like a tank. This thing is a coil on coil on coil mattress set with over 2200 springs and is soft as a baby caboose. Big Smile

My wife lives in the bedroom. When I got the king set home, I told her not to sit on the side of the mattress! Throw her legs up on to the mattress when she talks on the phone, puts on her make up, talks on the phone and eats. But does she listen? NO!

She has a 6" butt print dip by the night stand where she sits doing all of the things I just listed. I just happened to site where she site's before I came to the dinner. Your mother is of right. If you sit for a few mintues to dress every day it will take a long time with a good quality mattress.

Ulrich Darn you, now I want a new engine! Just got done looking on Model Train Stuff. Seen a few things I liked, but nothing worth making worth pulling the trigger.

Galaxy Thanks for your input. Only red you could see was where the bone marrow was. When I checked the meat temp the thermometer said it was 200 degress.

Lunch time,,, Zoe, could I get a ribeye sandwich an a irish coffee please. Had a light rain all morning an chilly, 63. Tomorrow has a chance of morning rain, then clearing, high of 67, will need a jacket for the games.
9-11, Mother was at work n I’d come inside for coffee, when I seen the news, abit later Mother called to find out what was goin on. While I was trying to tell her what I knew, the second play flow into the other tower. I knew for sure then, we were attacked. Talked to her several more times that day, seemed like every time she’d call, something else bad would happen.
One thing that really stand out to me is after all the planes were grounded, was how clear n blue the skies became.  We live in the take-off n approach path for Hulman airport [INANG] and several times over the next few days, we’d see n hear fighters leavin or coming back the only planes in the air.
>>KEN<<,, your lucky to live close to a VA hospital…. I use an out-patent clinic since it’s closer. We no longer have a doctor there; instead it’s a computer link to a doc in Decatur. If you’re really, really sick, then it’s a 70 mile one-way trip to see someone you don’t know. I have a visit comin up, think I’ll tell him I’m havin problems with my hemrrodes, then show him.
Football is in full swing now with the NFL started, both grandson’s teams lost their last ones, but both boys played good, so we’re happy. Skippin to nights games, will be at Sat nights game in Paris and of course Da BEARS on Sun.
I best gets round, need to call dad again n get his SS#, so I change his VA appointment from Indy to Danville, which will be fun.
