Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner - September 2015
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 12:36 AM

Welcome aboard Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner for the month of September 2015!

This is your informal place to meet with friends, share your day, talk on topic and off topic, but always within the rules of the forum policy.

Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner was formerly Elliot´s Trackside Diner, but was renamed to honor our friend Jeffrey "Running Bear" Wimberly, who passed away in December 2014. Jeffrey was an outstanding personality, a gifted and creative model railroader and a true friend.

We miss him very much!

Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner is open to anyone  and Cousin Vinnie, the proprietor and the staff - that´s Janie, the twins Chloe and Zoe, Flo and Brunhilda - are always happy to welcome new guest.

So come on in and enjoy the finest food and drinks and good company!

Good Morning!

Thought I´d open up the September Diner, as our G-Man seems to be on the road and not available for this service. I am not sure, but I have a faint memory he mentioned a trip some time ago he and his OH planned on taking at the end of August.

My ear is improving slightly, but still bugging me. Li´l Whistler is still blowing his whistle, and there is still a feeling of pressure in it, but the pain is nearly gone now. Two more days until I can see that specialist about it.

I couldn´t help but fiddling around with that plan once more - always in search of excellence Stick out tongue

The track plan:

... and some 3D views:

... and some detail shots:

... and a shot of the prototype location:

I wish I could change the colors of the scenery and the trees. I´d like to see it in those bright Fall colors!

up831 - I like designing small layouts, but I do have an issue with room-filling behemoths. It´s somewhat a hobby within the hobby for me, especially these days, as I cannot do any "serious" MRRing.

Enjoy the day!

'bright fall colors' Ulrich? Don't start pushing it! 25 more days until my B-day, then i will agree, after the first day of Fall, that there should be "pretty fall colors" other than green!

I have been busy this weekend...1st saturday was a BIG Shindig for special close friends...known as family.

Then SUnday we took in a couple of houses.nothing yet.

yesteraday was sa vet day, a thyroid issue, maybe and NOT  a 'put to sleep' issue ike moh feared. and a cleanup day as MOh made two-one alcohol nad one non alcohol  Black Forrest cakes for the shindig! so there was clean up in isle 16.

so, i was busy,

make it a great day....

Geeked

Oh, hte train trip is next saturday...from Steamtown to Deleware water gap...

Good morning diners,

It's the first of the month!

I was going write a few days ago but I got worried doing it. The past weekend I went on a small 2 day vacation to New Mexico and back doing some railfanning. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera on me until the return trip, but I missed a pair of UP SD70ACe with NS locomotive pulling a fast intermodal freight.

While watching Union Pacific trains I got energized again about the hobby. Mostly it went downhill; a bit on just focusing on buying freight cars.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled and a couple sour cream Glazed donuts.....  Oh, The're gone already?  The powdered sugared ones will do nicely then.

Brother Elias, I have been enjoying your photographs.  I see the lion checking out the ladies there...  Is that allowed?

Galaxy, sounds like you folks had a good weekend.  I kinda thought you had mentioned that you would be busy.

Location and host for the NMRA Fall meet fell through for this one, so now I am trying to find a good location and program for it.  Have a couple possibilities to look into.

Lots of stuff I need to get done, so I will catch you all later.

Not much going on now. School is starting here in Michigan and everything is crazy.I might order a GM EMD SW-1 and paint it to its origional Pere Marquette colors and running a diesel instead of steam for a change. But other than that not much going on. Did find a couple of websites to help me model the Pere Marquette, and here they are.

Have you not sometimes wondered, what Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner looks like?

Well, here is a recent photograph:

Janie is on duty today, and she took the liberty of naming the place "Jane´s Diner". Cousin Vinnie is that lackadaisical figure sitting on the right side of the porch - I am the bloke with the coffee mug in his hand, sitting on the bench in front of the porch.

Bedtime is coming up - CU all tomorrow!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo Beer Please

I am in a foul mood tonight, I hate stupid customers! At 4 minutes till closing Jeep SUV pull up to the store. Old Fart (well I am a old fart as well, but he was older) came in. He wanted to look at queen sizes mattress for him and is wife, she was not there.

OK, that not a buying sighn but I went at it. Took him to a King Koil Pillow top set for $629.99, he asked me how tall was it. Answer is 22". He said there was 22" and his wife has a hard time getting in and out of it. So I explained I have box springs that will lower it 2" to 5". Asked me "What eles to you have"? Asked him if he like to try it? He said no, what eles do you have?

With out him trying the mattress what do you do? I told him all ready I can lower the mattress up 5" with driffrent box spring, what does he want to do look at 52 driffrent mattress? Guess when he said look at Queen sets he did mean just look at them! Bang Head Plus with out his wife being there to see if she could get in and out of the bed what am I going to do to get the deal?Whistling Store Grand Father clock started chimming 8:00 PM so he started shuffling to the door and I followed.

Reason I am in a foul mood? Angry When I went out to my car I saw his wife sitting in the Jeep SUV! Bang Head Why the heck would he leave her in the car, when she was the one with speical needs?

We watch it from our home. We're about 50/60 miles from where it's launched. The sound from the rocket must be deafening. Bad enough when the T/S boomers go off and the house shakes.

ROFL!!!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have Organic Granola with fresh picked Blueberries and a large pot of Marrakesh Exp[ress Dark Roast Coffee to start the day.  Thank you Ma'am!

Hazy 81°F outside at the moment here in the Finger Lakes region of NYS.  High will be 85° under mostly sunny skies.  Right now the haze hasn't completely burned off.

Will be doing some odds and ends most of the day.  Have Boy Scout Roundtable this evening.  I'm continueing to just watch Manét as he seems to be a bit better than he was a few days ago.  May make an appointment at the vets to have him checked out though.

Have a great day out there!

Afternoon guys

just had a big rain storm move through and now things are really muggy out there. I'm off this week and part of next but have a job interview on Friday afternoon so wish me luck. The pay is good and it's straight days. Not much planned for time off but too relax and take it easy. I plan on playing some table top baseball after and want to work on the layout. I tried to post earlier but it got lost, funny why my internet acts up in the intense heat of summer.

Evening, Folks!

Haven´t been feeling up to snuff all day long today! It´s not only that ear pestering me, it´s the old ticker acting up again. I am having this dull pain in my chest which really starts to worry me. Tomorrow will be hospital day - ear and heart need getting fixed.

I think I´d better stop dreaming of building a layout - even the small one seems awfully big when I am not feeling well. All I want is something to play with, something to get my mind set on other things. Something like this maybe?

I think that I can manage to build something like it - with a lot of help from my MRRing friend Lothar. Nothing fancy, crazy track plan, but somehow "cute" - and less than 3 by 4ft.

Something more realistic to dream about ...

Ray - where I spent the best time of my life (Bainbridge Island, WA) watching the submarine races had a meaning I am not allowed to explain here. It was certainly a popular Friday night thing to do Whistling

Good evening everyone.

Ulrich at first I didnt get the joke ( I was what ? that doesnt make sense ! ) until I scrolled down and saw the picture then the light bulb went on. Thanks Funny : ) Hope you feel better.

Ken - People can be so aggravating. If you think your customers are bad you should try dealing with inspectors in teh Fire dept. They are "stupid as stupid does" Angry.  I could go on and on about how out of touch they are with the real world like for instance the IRC code states that the frost depth here in this area is 30" But nope they look at some chart some dingbat has made up and they say it has to be four feet deep ? !! What heck just two years ago it was only 2 feet deep and Ale Gore and Obooomba is saying the world is getting warmer ! Now how can that be and teh frost depth is getting deeper here ? SoapBoxBang Head - yep there is a real disconnect going on.

Garry - thanks it was good news bad news type of appointment.

Galaxy - Fribble ? Now that is interesting. See above my comments to Ken. Can fribble apply to them ?

Flip - What rocket did you see go up ?

Good news and bad news on cardio doc. Good news no structural issues with the ole ticker. Bad news is there is a permanent electrical problem. The doc wants to try shocking my chest to get the electric in the heart corrected plus shove something down my throat to see it from the inside. Been there and done that!

The procedure is, to say the least, not really a pleasant one, but there are things worse.  I just wonder how they want to get into your heart from your throat. In my case the went through one of the big veins in my thigh.

Nothing much today, I bought a Union Pacific AC4400CW and a BNSF SD70ACe from two different stores.

Lately it's been hard to buy locomotives when you buy only freight cars this past year.

I had a cardio cath done too. They said "it must be blocked at least 85% or we don't do anything"...I said well, don't you think while you are in there, that you should DO something if it is only 75% blocked? They siad NO, ONLY 85% or more.

The worst part was, afterwards I had a 'collagen plug installed"  that supposedly sealed up the hole in my thigh, and then had to lie there flat on my back for 5 hours, during which they served dinner, mushy stuff like mashed potatoes and gravy, which i could not eat lying down!

I thought the whole shindig was a waste...
