Just sayin´ hello to everyone!
I have not been feeling well all day long, could hardly keep my eyes open. That old ticker refused to work properly today, but with a shot of nitro spray that was corrected. The downside of this is that I need a day (or sometimes even two) to get back on track.
It´s 8.30pm here , but I´ll be heading for the hay soon!
CU tomorrow!
Hi Gang,
Well, our trip is over, we got home late Sunday evening, day off yesterday to recup/revitalize and back to work this morning. We had a great time, lots of fun with my Grandson and visiting with my Sons and better halves.
No word from my Wife lately, sure hope she and her Sisters are enjoying themselves in G.B. and France, and that she is not haveing any trouble with her Diabetes.
We drove down to Yellowstone again but went in the north east way this time. That is the only road in there that I had not been on. Quite a trip, lots of switchbacks and elevation over 10,000 feet. Loved it.
Gathered up all the goodies I had coming to my Son's home from Walthers, Factory Direct Trains, Trainworld, and Rusty Stumps. As well as the items that John at Jim's Junction had ordered in for me. Then found some other things there and at Hobby Lobby that just had to come home with me.. That is it for me for purchases for quite a while, spent my wad/allowance/whatever at least till the new year as I have put quite a bit of loot into my truck lately as well.
Sorry to hear of some of the medical set-backs some are having. That's just not fun. Good luck today Galaxy at the sawbones. Ulrich, my thoughts are always with you, hang in there good Buddy.
Well, I had better get back to work here and EARN a little pay.
Catch ya' all later. I do have a lot of reading to do to catch up here. You guys wrote a lot of pages while I was away.

Yes, the tiles. When I started my layout a decade or so ago, the one thing I had to have was the tiled walls of the subways. It was the memory from my childhood growing up outside of New York. So...
This is one of the newer ones, with the striping and street name applied as a decal. The early ones were hand-painted, with a computer-printed sign before I learned to make decals. Looking at The Lion's pictures, I now wish I'd made my signs fancier.

Good morning everyone....
Flo, a cup of java and an english muffin please...
School's back in session and dad gets a little R & R from chauffeuring and daddy dos. I have plans to go to the lumber yard and hunt for a new piece of laminate for a new backdrop I've been thinking about.
I'm glad metformin worked for someone Mister Beasley; both of the girls complained of nausea and can't eat. We're taking the youngest back to the doctor this afternoon to see what can be done.
Hope everyone has a great Tuesday....

Off to the Orthopedic surgeon to decide about the L shoulder surgery. DOn't know as the rihgt shoulder has shown any improvemnet such as it is, so dunno.
ALso off to take MOH's car in for repairs. well, tires, and maybe brakes. At about 25-27k miles already the original tieres are about shot, never do they put very good tires on, so We will put 70K miles tires on, so maybe 3-3.5 years on them. bout $100/tire, but I hve a buy 3 get 1 free coupon so the extras will still make it $400 anyway.
MOH nad I already had a tiff over it.I siad I suggest we drop off your car and go to the Drs. appt, then pick it up when done. MOH got angry tell you later.
Evening Dinners
MisterBeasley I actually gained weight and was too sluggish for exercise. I think it was starving my brain as well, as I felt mentally sluggish, and my wife reported that I was a pretty nasty person to be around.
MR B That sounds like me to a point. Even when I was working out I felt tired all the time, even with getting stronger. I know I am not as sharp as I use to be and feel dull witted a lot. I make simple math mistakes, I was not like that when I was in my 40's and early 50's. I was the one that caught the math errors, not make them. Far as my spelling? It has alwise stunk. Yea, my wife thinks I am mean sometimes, but that she brings on her self as far as I am concern.
Work Front Dave is still on the wagon, we where busy and all the customers where tire kickers! Made for a very long unenjoyable day.
Trains are running geat, Y6b is cooking!

Yep, the 20degree-after-labor-day-drop is coming! 90-92 tomorrow, 70-72 Friday.
oh well, it also has been since 2013 that we last actually had 90-degree temps! it has been Bitter cold winters and mild summers here.
ANd, hope we are blessed to NOt sepnd another winter here in this tin box! Dunno.
we will put our dinal offer, $2k less tha theres to us, down on Friday. We will see if they really want to sell.
That is, besides resting for 2 days, that is happening here.
Happy day-off for most of those who work. For the retirees in the diner, happy day-like-every-other-Monday-except-there-is-no-mail-delivery.

Good morning and happy Labor Day to everyone! It's a sunny and pleasant day right now, but the heat comes in later in the day and sticks around until the end of the week.
luvadjMister Beasley, Metformin is what they put both the better half and my daughter on and they both reacted badly to it. Did it effect you badly as well?...just wondering...
By the numbers, the Metformin did what it's supposed to. It lowered my blood sugar dramatically. But, most people report that they lost a few pounds and had more energy. I actually gained weight and was too sluggish for exercise. I think it was starving my brain as well, as I felt mentally sluggish, and my wife reported that I was a pretty nasty person to be around. It was just another example of why you've got to tell your doctor when the side effects are messing you up. I'm on Glyburide now, just a small dose, and I feel like a younger man again.
Afternoon, everyone!
After the heavy ra*nfall we had the last couple of days, we are now enjoying some "calm" autumn weather, i.e. it´s sunny and bright, but not too hot. Actually, my kind of weather!
With nothing else to do I just tinkered around with that short "video" of my layout plan, just to gain skills in using the WindowsMovieMaker for future projects.
I have made some changes to the layout base, which I want to be a small cabinet on wheels, enabling me to store my train stuff and move the layout around. I had plans to buy something like it, but the cabinets I found are either too small, too big or too expensive (or, in fact,m a combination of two items on the list). So it´ll have to be either custom-made (too expensive) or my friend will have tho honor ...
Well, here is the updated and improved video:
Enjoy!
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, a Breakfast Muffin with egg, cheese, and Canadian bacon would hit the spot. don't forget my Dark Roast Coffee too...
"The sun is a shinin' to welcome the day...."
Already 78°F outside on its way up to 92°F here in the Finger Lakes Region this Labor Day. I will be spending much of the day out at my son's house. He will be serving the BBQ around 4PM he says.
The boys have already had their morning insulin. Manét is letting me give him the shot, but makes clear he doesn't like this at all.... He is moving around more and seems to be walking a little better already.
Mr. B, I am on Janumet for my diabettes. that is 50mg of Januvia and 1000mg Metformin twice a day. It has been keeping the sugar well controlled and I haven't had any bad side effects so far. Been on it for about 4 or 5 years now. What side effects have you and they had from it.
I best get moving... Catch you all later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Flo, I'll have the Belgian Waffle with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a cup of your finest decaf please...the better half is on me about too much caffeine lately. I can't wait for the BBQ this afternoon; I'm ready for that chicken and especially those just roasted hatch chiles on those cheeseburgers.
The youngest has a strange problem with reinstalling her games on her new laptop; it won't let her because the codes have been used already (??), so it's gona be a long drawn out phone call to EA tech support so she can play Sims 3 again.
I have a couple of small houses that I'm finishing for the patio layout and I have a friend who's been bugging me to let him see the layouts in action. I've been putting him off until they were both cleaned up and fully operational so the BBQ was a good time to show it to him.
Mister Beasley, Metformin is what they put both the better half and my daughter on and they both reacted badly to it. Did it effect you badly as well?...just wondering...
You all have a happy and safe Labor Day....
Well,
Typical just after Labor day here...the 20 degree {f} drop! Tomorrow will be near 90, by Friday/Sat, it will only be near 70F, and will only go down from there, I am afraid.
I always hated my B-day for that reason..it means colder weather is definitely on the way, as the first day of Fall is 2 days before my B-day.The 'getting older' part does not disturb me. its the weather.
COnversely MOH's b-day is in April, a wonderful, if not rainymonth in which it is sure to get warmer!
well, it is late as I slept most of the day, now time to get to bed again.
later
RAY: it was the good ole 765 steamer taking the Delaware gap trip form Stemtown!! I was riding and got the injury on. I will have to see the dr. abut it, it may have to come off. I know the podiatrist who has yanked 6 of my tonails {one grew back in two places for two nail regrowth and was yanked yet again}, but I don't know who would remove a finger nail..?
t
Steamtown has #26 about ready [probably next year} about run. It will be the only stemer for a while, a 0-4-0, it won't do muchbut pul the local 2 cars, but the money for the steam program is always short...People forget Steamtown National Historic Park is NOT just about steam, it is about RAILROAD HISTORY, which includes steam!
Good evening. Oh brrrr!! It's cold here today with a high of 48F. Reminder that summer is about over. Spent several more days off the grid this past week.
Just received the news that my daughter was named on of the top 50 people in in the world of running by Runners Magazine. Really proud of her accomplishments as executive director of the Road Runners Clubs of America.
This is the last big summer holiday weekend in Canada, so, hope all our Canadian friends are enjoying the end of summer labor day weekend.
Jim
We do have a wind trainer, and I used to use it. My daughter uses it when she's home, and she sets it up in front of the TV. I will probably do that. At one time I had an old road bike with a cracked head tube that I used on the wind trainer so I didn't put any wear and tear on my good bike. I haven't seen it around, so we probably tossed it. At least I've got old tires around so I won't grind down a good one.
Of course, gyms do have all that eye candy...
Flo, please.
Work is boring when Dave is sober. He is back on the wagon again, well while he was at work today. Plus it was real slow anyway, only 4 customers came in today. But after Saturday with over 20 customers I did not think we would be busy and I was right.
Will Dave get canned? Seem's Marvin did talk to Dave yesterday and knows he was, well under a full head of steam! Guess we will see what happen's Tuesday when he work's at the St Charles store. (that is where Marvs offices is) Will Nancy save is Bacon again, or will he become Road Kill?
See you all later, Ken
Evening guys
a warm one out today, almost 40c with humidity. School goes back around here for kids on Tuesday. I can't believe how quick the summer went by, I didn't get out on the bike at all this summer. That is the first time in years. I guess I can still get out if I want to though. Not much new to report here that interview went well on Friday. I am off until Thursday of this week so still have some time off this week. I am just going to kick back tomorrow and get a few games of strat baseball and football in
Evening Folks!
It´s been a bad day - in terms of the weather we had to "enjoy". Lots of wet stuff coming down, only interrupted by short spells of sunshine luring one outside - only to get soaked after a few minutes!
Janie - I´ll have a nightcap - you know, a mug of hot chocolate soiced up with a generous swig out of that bottle Vinnie is hiding under the counter!
CU all tomorrow!
MisterBeasley. . .The problem will be moving into winter, when the weather will no longer be conducive to bike riding and I'll have to move indoors to a gym or something. . .
Have you considered a stationary trainer for your bike? I used one when I was training for an event and it was just too darn hot to ride outside. (Summer time in Arizona.) I am not going to kid you, it can be incredibly boring, but it is better than nothing. Three things that helped me.
Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Last year when I was on Metformin, it felt like a death sentence. My personal reaction to the stuff was very much non-standard, but now I'm very happy and the bike riding has me feeling better than I have in years. The problem will be moving into winter, when the weather will no longer be conducive to bike riding and I'll have to move indoors to a gym or something. Yuck.
Zoe, I'll have the Breakfast Buffet this morning. As always looks like a great array o food! Oh, I will need a large pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee to wash this all down....
Galaxy, sorry to hear about the injury! OUCH!!! Were you on the coaches from Steamtown or some other one.
Currently 80°F outside (was 73° when I turned on the computer at 8:30 this morning) and will peak out at 87°+ later today. Good day to do laundry and tend to projects on the SLOW. Air conditioner was running already when I got up. It is nice and sunny outside. Today should be a good day for making electricity. Only problem with September is that the Maple tree next door still has it's leaves and is now startimng to shade the panels for a couple hours every day. This will continue until the leaves drop in November. Then it will still affect the output but not nearly as much.
Manét got his second dose of insulin today... He had the same reaction of "Ouch, that hurt Daddy!" He is walking better already. Blackie doesn't even flinch when he gets his.
Still trying to nail down a location for the Fall NMRA Meet. Have a couple more places to look at that have been suggested by other officers.... Will be spending time on Google Maps today too.
Have a great day!
Flo, a cup of your finest joe if you please....and a chocolate french cruller. The better half says they're no good for me but they taste so good, how can they be bad for me?
I got the fence fixed, put a new tube in the youngest's bicycle and it's all about trains today. Looking for a high of 100 so I'll hide inside this afternoon.
Have a great Sunday whatever you do....
Sorry to hear about your injury, Galaxy. I know there were some rough spots on the D-L when I went on the ELHS excursion a few years ago. It sounds like they never fixed them. Hopefully you had SOME fun, though, and the whole trip wasn't a complete ordeal.
Maybe Ill see you in Nicholson next weekend for the Tunkhannock Viaduct Centennial.
Well, home now, Thank the stars.
What a fiasco. There is Steamtown people, NS people, Nickel Plate 765 people, the Delaware water gap people, NONE OF WHOM knew what was going on! The left hand didn't knwo what the right hand was doing! The..oh never mind, i will tell yous alls abouts it on the morrow. TO top it off, I got injured!!! IT may seem minor, but when I went to up to the concession car to buy coffee and a new bottle of water, well, in betrween the cars, the train LURCHed suddely, I zigged, the train zagged, I stuck out my left hand to steady against the pillar, normally NOT a bad hing. but the sudden LURCH meantmy pinky finger got jammed nail first into the pilar, and the nail got jammed and TORN right straight across the finger halfway up the nail. IT MAY have to be YANKEd the rest of the way off! {surgically of course}. I am still "harmonically rocking"as I speak.
The box lunch the website promised was a NO-SHOW.
I will digress tomorrow. It is WAY past my bedtime....
Ah, the joys of alcohol. My wife has been trying to quit, and had gone several weeks without it. It's my contention that she doesn't actually have a drinking problem, but she sure has a hangover problem, and that's what she wants to be rid of. Anyway, she's joined a church fellowship group and found that the support was helping her. As for me, I thought the group was great, because there is a great old time rock 'n' roll band at a local bar that night, so I would go there while she went to her church group.
The fellowship group went to the mountains for a retreat this weekend. She was not going to go, but they convinced her that the time away would be good to help with her stress problems and being with the group would "lead her not into temptation" as well. So, she agreed, and then they asked her to drive, and help set up the program, and ferry food around, and.....
This was supposed to help with stress. In the end, it pushed her over the top, she had a glass of wine and then another and ended up cancelling out on them. So much for helping, I guess.
Flo, a beer for me and I pick up the tap of all the MIA Dinners!
Mr B Good for you!
Terry Boy you have a sweet layout, how big is it and how long is the main line?
Work Front, store had a good day and I had a great day! Store did around $5500.00 and I had $4300.00 of it! Had two great sales that netted me a extra $250.00 in spiff!
How was Daves Day you ask? Well he FELL OFF THE WAGON AND HURT HIS HEAD! Yes Dave showed up a little lite and around 1:00 PM he had a good head of steam, his bolier was cooking!
I knew something was up when I got to the store, paper work while never his strong point was a mess. He called at 10:10 AM and said he was going to be late. He sounded a little confused and was having a hard time finding need words. He said "I could not find the stuff I needed to make a deposit with?" I said "Dave you mean the deposit slip's? They where on the desk right in front of you, I am looking at them right now."
I could go on but why bother with details. By 1:00 I sort of comfroted him and said "Dave, you are slurgging your speach and seem confused, do you need to go home?" He just stared at me?
I had be debating for a few hours about calling Paul the GM about Dave. While I don't really want him at my store, I hate to be a Rat and get him fired. What brought to a head was around 2:30 PM. We are out of toner for the fax machine. I called Paul to see when we should get it. I all so said there was some new toner at the store but not what I needed. Paul told me that was the extra toner I need for the St Charles Store and the toner you need should have came with it.
Paul started asking me questions about the shippment I could not answer, because I was off. Guess who was there, Dave. Dave said he got the package Friday, he thinks. Paul looked on the UPS site and he got Them On Thursday? Paul said he sighned for two boxes, Dave had no clue what he got?
That is when I walked a way and told Paul "Dave is off the wagon" and he said that he will let the owers know.
Will anything become of this? More than likely not.
Later Ken
Drunk Dave under a full head of steam, bolier is cooking!
Afternoon, everybody.
88f and very humid. Went for a bike ride today with a couple buddies. Wasn't too bad at 60mph, but we were sweating at stop signs!
Kids and grandkids were up 3 weekends in a row. We had fun!!
Work is very busy, seems everyone decided to do their projects at once. Good for me tho, full up through deer season!
