 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

Work was all most a waste of time today. I had 3 customers in a one hour period then it was dead. Seems work was dead after I left Sunday, no one after I left at 1:00 PM.

Nancy called and wanted to know how Dave was this weekend? Well I told her he came in buzzed Drinks and after I asked if he had been Drinks he calmed down and was fine after he took a nap. What struck me as funny was when she said "but I told Dave if he drank Drinks at work again I fire him?" Guess she does not understand most company don't have to tell the employees not to Drinks at work? Smile, Wink & Grin

Plumber Front, well there is none. Called 3 of them today, not a one seemed to want to fix what I need fixed? My guess it is to small of a job and I do get it. Guess it is like what I do, if I have 2 coustmer's at the same time. One wants a cheap twin and the other one wants a good queen sizes mattress I am going to spend more time with the one wanting the queen. Not that I would not help both.

YGW Good speaking with you today and I hope I was of some help. If you read this before you and your plumber call Tuesday, waite till Wednesday. I need to get the shower handle and neck off first so I see what I am dealing with.

 Later, Ken

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill for the decaf please....

I spent most of the afternoon in Hammondsport today.  When I arrived at my friends house (One of the NMRA Members of my Division) who is helping me put together the Fall Meet he was getting online help for his new computer.  Seems like the sound card which is part of the Mother Board was not working right.  The company was working on it online and correcting the problem.  Unfortunately that took another hour to complete after I arrived.  No problem as the event I thought I was going to be at tonight didn't happen (it will on Wednesday).  I also dropped off my Projector for the guy to use for a presentation he is doing Thursday evening.  We then went down to the Curtice Airplane Museum to finallize the plans to have the Meet there in November.  It is a fantastic place to hold a meet.  Only fee to attend will be the discounted fee for the museum.  We also have the afternoon planned now as well.  Only need to put together the program for the morning session.

Managed to get my weeks grocery shopping done late this afternoon, but dinner was an hour late.  I was about to sit down to eat when the doorbell rang and it was the gent across the street who was out walking and just stopped to see how Manét was doing with his treatment.  He is a cat guy and has three left at his house.

Wow!  Lion, that is quite a bonfire you had at the monastary!  Do hope the farmer has insurance to cover the loss.  Kids (and too many so called adults) seldom think through the consequences of actions.  Nothing new, just part of the fral=ilty of being human I think.

Tomorrow I need to get the lawn mowed.  Should be a good day to get it done.  High of 75°F and lots of sun.  May even find some time to do some train staring at dowbn cellar.  Maybe even do some work on a project for a change.  I do plan to move the old Clown Loach to the 55 gal. aquarium as well.

Hope you all have a great night!

And now for something completely different...

This was in our back yard, that is to say in our barnyard, 100 bales of hay went up in flame and smoke. The fire department was here all night. It is not our hay even if it is on our land, we rent out the farm to a neighbor. That is $100,000 of hay that burned, because some kid touched a lighter to it to see if it would burn.

The answer is yes, it would indded burn. The kids fessed up to it right away, even before the sheriff pulled into the yard, which I guess speaks well of the kids and of their parents after a fashion of course.

But one of these kids has a history. Parents are separated, neither are any good, the kid has been removed from parental custody, has spen time in a juvinile setting. Of course it goes without saying that he is a "good" kid. Really has had hard breaks, and he has no clue about boundries, which does worry us here in the monastery, what with and all... I suppose now he will get to see what the Youth Correctional Center looks like. It will be different from Home on the Range. He can go there even without further adjucation, but further adjucation there will be. Especially if some insurance company has to pick up on the lost hay.

LION never knew that hay was so costly, but what the heck, LIONS do not eat hay. Roasted Wildebeest, any one.

Well, we done did it. Done and gone signed them papers! We is done made ourselfs broked. {said incorreclty on purpose}.

Now comes the harder part, the fiancing, It will be tight! We know that, and MOH finally has another client to fill in MOndays, and will on SAt.s again too. That will increase the old paycheck. We WIL have to wathc pennies carefully, there aren't to many builders going on here to dumpster dive for supplies to build a bigger layout, so it may be a while befoer I can. We will also buy like one 2x4 per pay period and one 2'x2' flooring block per pay period to finish off the basement, it will take a coupel of years to get all the suppplies to do it.!

The flooring base:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_173869-99899-ODRICORE000000___

that is what we will use to finish the floor. It will stay dry on top even if there is water flowing underneath,...which right now is not an issue,

We will buy one and a stud per pay period! $10/pay period onthe "payment plan"...the loooooooong payment plan....to finish the basement.

we will see...

A couple of pictures from my ride this morning.

Sunrise 1

Sunrise 2

Although, the old sailor's saying is, "Red skies at night, sailor's delight; Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning." Apparently we have a huge storm blowing in. The news this morning told people in the lower-lying areas to go to the closest firestation and get sand bags. We shall see--I don't have a whole lot of confidence in the talkings heads on TV.

This will probably be my last visit to the diner before I go under the knife tomorrow morning. The surgery (hernia repair) is scheduled for 7:30am, which means I need to be up, showered, and at the hospital by 5:30. It is going to be an early morning.

Afternoon, Folks!

Not much going on in here today!

Zoe, a slice of that cherry crumble pie and coffee in my Rhaetian Railway mug, please!

Garry - Sven´s layout is one of those projects taking more than a decade to come to a point, when all track is done and a train can be run over the layout. No scenery, no catenary yet. It´s way too big for my taste and the plan already shows some major flaws. Not in the track arrangement, but the general layout of the "layout" - aisles too narrow, no fire escape! Personally, I am missing some of the signature scenic features of this railroad. I am sure it´ll be a fine layout, once it´s close to being finished. I won´t be around to see it, though.

I´ll be adding finishing touches to my layout cabinet coming Wednesday, which means I have to give some thoughts to the construction of the actual benchwork.

Good Morning Diners,

I bought a Atlas RS1 bodyshell for $27 decorated in Illinois Terminal. When I have materials I'll strip the name and add the GNOR name. I'm keeping the black and white paint and the logo with very little changes.

Before I got it I was thinking about the pros and cons of buying a bodyshell. The feelings are mixed but I do feel disappointed and sad. I say to myself that it will change.

Building my railroad is difficult challenge since having nothing except fictional history, paint schemes, railway equipment. All painted in paint shop on the computer using railroad paint shop drawings. I hope Kato makes undecorated F7 single headlight version.

I was on here yesterday but I didn't have internet connection; when I clicked on submit which lost my post. It's been acting strange the past few days I hope it will help soon.

Good Morning!

Hey - I am early today!

Galaxy - congrats on you being a house owner now! Gee, that basement sure looks tempting! No more ideas of building a tiny (yet expensive) Z scale layout. With a basement of that size you can go all the way up to O scale (not the tinplate stuff) Come to think of it, It´s about the size Norm Charbonneau´s great Hi-Rail layout filled.

I had a very enjoyable afternoon vesterday! I am a member of a Swiss model railroading forum specializing in Swiss narrow gauge lines. A couple of weeks ago I posted a question there, asking for advice how to "calm down" one of my locos, which is rather noisy. One of the answers was from a guy who had the same issue with his loco and he found a way to reduce the noise level. It turned out he lives in the same community as I do! Yesterday, he came to pick me up and he took me to his home, where I got a special tour of his new layout still under construction.

Here is a pic of the track plan, showing the upper deck of his layout:

My new acquaintance is a nice and friendly guy and it´s good to have someone nearby sharing my interest. The job he did on my loco did the trick!

Have a great start into the new week and a pleasant last couple of days of Summer 2015!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a mug of decaf for me at the moment....

Been a long weekend out at the museum.  We had a good crowd for RG&E and Kodak days.  Saturday went very smoothly but we got a soaking rain part way through the afternoon.  Today was also well attended and all told went well.  We had an over crowding incident on my caboose on about the 3rd. run and the gent who oversees the Museum operation got impatient again and was upset that we were running behind schedule.  People were not settling down, so I had to repeat the intsruction several times.  I told him I would give the OK just as soon as it was OK!  The conductor sided with me......  He runs the train.

The next trip down the line after that, a lady with a 4 year old kid got on my caboose and the others had all settled down And I told the folks in the Cupola not to attempt to come down until I told them it was OK when the train was properly stopped and everyone on board to please not put anything out of the windows (no cameras, hats, purses, heads, feet, or kids!  "We want to go home with everything you brought with you....").  Then I told the conductor we were all set.  He radioed the Engineer with the order to move the train North to Midway.  Right at that moment the little kid ran by me, out the door and was getting off!  I hit the mike on my radio with emergency!  Luckily the engineer didn't start the train, the conductor gave an official order to stop, and I headed out the door after the kid.  Turns out he and his mother were supposed to be getting a Cab Ride in the loco and just got on the caboose to see what it looked like inside.....  If I hadn't gotten the train stopped the kid would have been on the last step about the time coupler slack took in!  The kid could have been thrown around from the step right under the wheel of the PC Caboose behind mine.  The conductor showed up at that end of the PC caboose just as the kid jumped off the bottom step.  I was shaking like a leaf for the next two runs and the conductor was white as a sheet!  The conductor came over when we had gotten to the other end of the line, put his hand on my shoulder and told me I done good and its alright.  BTW, Mother and kid were escorted over to the the loco and helped on with a bit of warning to the kid.  The rest of their family was already on in the cab!

Gary, so sorry to hear of your loss.  Will keep you and yours in my prayers during this time!

Galaxy, Congrats to you and yours for getting your offer accepted for the house!  Very cool!!!

I started this post two hours ago, but my sister called....Whistling

Catch you all in the morning.  Have a great night!

Good evening, diners.  Staying at the new airport Mariott Courtyard Hotel in Saskatoon tonight.  Very nice new lodging.

Galaxy, good things come to those who wait.  Hope your closing goes with no hitches.

Saw a lot of old beer can grain cars this afternoon waiting loading.  Plan to get some picture tomorrow on the way back to Flin Flon.

Today I got back to doing trains!

After quite a few months of no layout activity, I sat there in front of the football game and started modeling again!  Yay!

I fixed a box car and a tank car that had been on the RIP track, and started on the City Classics "company houses" kit, 3 small identical homes that I'll customize a bit and make unique.

I've got a cold.  I didn't want to go out for a bike ride or do anything strenuous or tiring.  Nice weather out, but this was the right call.  Wine with my steak dinner was the wrong call, but, well, you can't win 'em all.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please and one for Galaxy.

Galaxy, hope things work out for you.

Work Was a Bust. I had to leave after only 1 hour of being there. We are having plumbing problems. Till I get it fix either my wife or I turn off the water when not in use. Sue went to my daughters house today after I went to work. Called me at work and said "sounds like someone is beating on something real hard, then moans, and starts beating again and moans some more".

Told her to go back home to see if it was still making the same sounds. Called back about 15 minutes later, and my daughter was having a Bad Asthma Attack. Sues was going to take her to the ER and could not get back to the house. So I called off to just make sure the house had not burst a pipe.

All was quite when I got home, I knew what was making the sound but with out my wife being there I had to make sure. Daughter is fine, she found here breathing machine and did not have to go to the ER. It was just to nice to go back to work, so Caboose it. I took the rest of the day off.

 Later, Ken

Heartland Division CB&Q

Wow, Galaxy!.. The basement has big possibilities !

about 22' x 30' ! worth of possibilities!

HO layout, for me, and an N scale for MOH.{euro trains}...

Of course the furnace, sump, h20 heater and sink would have to come out,and we'd install a 1/2 bath too. We'd finish it off..one 2x4' at a time!

Jim,

We are hoping this seller sees the value we are offering in a very strong buyer's market. The last seller thought NOT, and truth be told the last house, was worth their asking price but in a different market.

They all want to get the maximum value, I  understand that, and the buyers all want to get maximum value too. Each wants to feel like hthey "won" the competition/deal.

So, we are in competition with the sellers. That is what it is all about.

We are prepared to lose the house over the $2k we are under their "wanting price". It is VERY odd, that we offered $100 OVER our offering price, to "sweeten the deal" and raise the price just $100 over instead of the standard $900 under the price offered. That way, should someone come along and offer a standard even price or the typical $900 under an even amount, we'd win out. AND they just so happen to "NEED to get a price" $100 OVER the amount they wanted!!! They copied our idea, obviously. But we have offered to split the difference with them, the difference between our offer and their "need price", but so far that leaves us still the same $2k apart we were on the other house from each ohter on this deal. $2k May not sound like a lot of money to lose a house over, but $2k IS a lot of money to us!!! SO IT IS a big deal! We jsut don't have it to give without leaving us toatlly BROKE! We need a grand or two for cushion.

And they are askign a price for a 3 br house when it is a 2 br house. They know it, as they came down $4800 immediately.

so, that's my story.

Well, i have attacked the kitchen pantry and worked on it, but it is not done. FOund a mouse nest and a dead mousie too. he got stuck in a container.

Well, thats it.

Good afternoon diners.  It is a beautiful day in the North after a week of rain.   More rain forecasted for the coming week.  My wife leaves for D.C. tomorrow.  Hope to get a little more fishing done before I head south to Ohio the 6th of October.

Gary, Sincere sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your grandson.  Regardless of the circumstances, it is always difficult to lose a loved one.

Lion,  you might be dinner as your cousins look pretty hungry.

Galaxy, hope you are able to close on a deal you can live with.  Having gone through the buying process eight times, it is never easy and you never know whether there was a better deal.  Bought one house where the owner at closing said I had taken advantage of him.  I offered his asking price knowing he had undervalued his house.

Ken, your work situation sounds like a sitcom script.  Dealing with a drinking problem at work is really difficult.  Have had to terminate drinking and drug using employees before and it is never pleasant.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.  Football  is now in full swing, so, my guess is lots of you are glued to the tube this afternoon.

Good afternoon, everybody ..

We are getting older. Our oldest granddaughter is 14 and went to her first homecoming dance last night. A boy actually gave her a corsage to wear with her dress. .... uh oh ! .... Someone, please tell me it is not true!

Lion ... Glad you could visit your "cousins".

Galaxy ... Looks like you are close to a deal... Hope all works out okay.

I won't be able to visit the Diner very much for about 1 1/2 weeks beginning tomorrow because of traveling. I will have little or no computer time.

Happy Model Railroading.

First COndolences to Gary.Angel a candle is lit for "safe passage".

House: we have countered their counter offer, splitting the difference. Btu whiel htey came back immediately with a counter offer, they haven't yet answered tour counter to their counter. Maybe they will counter our counter to their counter of our offer. Dunno, we are, once again, $2k apart. NAD we are not going to much than splitting the difference if they hold fast to their counter. By SF alone the house may not appraise to the price they want, and they know it! SO.....dunno..

well, I have a kithcen pantry to clean ou and organize. SOme stuff inthe back hasn't seen the lite of day in ages...

Just received word that my youngest grandson passed away about an hour ago in his dad's arms in Stoddard, Wisconsin.  Born 6/4/2014 with CDG disease, blind and deaf.  He's with his grandma, who I lost 6/3/15.

Work Front, guess how many at work to day where drunk? Well at my store only 1, and it was Dave. Not as bad as last time but he was buzzed. He was in adamantly mood. We got off to the races pretty quick when I told him to call Paul because he was late. He refused and off he went. Told me 4 times I was a Liar, that I wanted to take the store from him (told him I all ready had it) and I wanted to work alone. Well, just not with him drunk, so he was half right.

Asked him if he been drinking? Of couse he said no. Told him the whole company knows he has a problem, no answer. After that he wanted to be nice but could not keep anything straight or make any sense. At one point he stated that "Barack Obama hates Mount Rushmore because it has Americans on it". Whistling Then he fell asleep which was fine with me, store was dead.

Did not report him today, but I will call Sunday before I go into work. With Nancy being in St Chharles today did not seem to be worth the effort!

Preapproved Visa Offer. Read the term's and threw it in the trash tonight! If they give me a card, they want $75.00 and that will be charged to the card, and after that $100.00 a year. I am not going to give a company money so they can make money off me!

Galaxy, busy shigning papers today? I may have missed it but I did not see any post by you.

 See you all Sunday

 Ken

Thank you folks for your kind thoughts and prayers.  The CDG (Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation) was present at birth, but took months to fully diagnose and confirm.  Torian appears to have had a very severe form of it, and it is a miracle that he survived so long with it.  According to one of his specialists at Mayo (as of about 4 months ago) there were at that time, only a couple dozen or so surviving people worldwide (at least reported) with his variation of the disorder.  It was a blessing to be able to hold him and rock him while he was here, and he will be missed, especially by his sister and four brothers.

Weighmaster

Just received word that my youngest grandson passed away about an hour ago in his dad's arms in Stoddard, Wisconsin.  Born 6/4/2014 with CDG disease, blind and deaf.  He's with his grandma, who I lost 6/3/15.

Gary
