We got some extra docs to sign from the finance company, mailed back off. Got the lot rent mailed off.

SO we are Ok there.

we did go "shopping" nad drooled over a few peices, but mostly not so satisfied with selection. for a couch, they tend to be deep and squichy, for me i need firm and not deep, so I can get up out of the darn thing!!

Ulrich: good job! You will figure thingsout a way to do htings now, WHen I first began uing the cane, I had to figure out ways to do things one-handedly! {as one carried hte cane!} Easy as time goes by.

See you all later..

Good evening diners.  I have missed all of you for the past week and a half as my computer absolutely quit connecting to the net.  Finally received help from a friend who used to work in IT who determined that Google Chrome was so corrupted in my registery it could not be restored.  He tried to uninstall and reinstall without success.  So we switched to Firefox.

Sorry to hear that some of you have been having trouble with Firefox and videos.

Ken, encouragement for stopping smoking and consuming the daily beers.  The cost factor certainly has to be a motivator but the health benefits are much more important.

Johnboy and CN Charlie, its getting chilly further north.  Yesterday I went fishing with some people from N. Dakota and about 3 PM a squall came up, blew like mad, rained buckets for about two minutes and the temperature dropped at least 10 degrees C.  Very cool here today.  Will probably finally have a hard frost.  The trees have been beautiful this past week but the storm yesterday blew off a lot of leaves.

Friends finished up wild rice harvesting this past week with the second best harvest in over ten years.   I enjoyed camping at their camp for the last month.  Very sirene location with no TV, phone, electricity or plumbing.  Very much a roughing it experience.

Hope everyone is having a good start to the last week in September.

Ulrich - congrats on soldering ! I am so impressed with you. Having just a little heart trouble and being worn out at the end of the day, I cannot imagine having a stroke and tehn trying to take enything on- my hats are off to you.

The post-hernia-surgery recovery continues. Last night was my first normal night's sleep. I am figuring I will still doze off a couple times today as I am still a little on sleep-deprived side from the past week. The pain is mostly gone--just a little tenderness and discomfort. I am continuing on the Advil regime for one more day, allbeit at a lower dosage. I have a follow-up appointment with the surgeon on Thursday.

Not sure what is going on with the heat in these parts. It looked like the triple digits were gone earlier this month, but now we are looking at highs over 100 for the week. It is always a little discouraging when it is 100 degrees in October.

ULRICH,   Way to go,  we knew you could do that.  Just keep trying all those things that were so familiar to you.

By small steps many miles are travelled.  And by practise those things which were so familiar to you will become so again.  It will take time, but I do think that is one thing that you have lots of.

I'm proud of you for trying and succeding.  I am smiling.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I would like a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic Cereal (bring over the packets of Stevia) and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR Mug please (and thank you!).

Ulrich, congrats on the solder job!  I think over time you will find many ways you can still get the jobs done even with your handicappes.  Running Bear did....  So can you!

I'm taking a short break from the days nessessary activities to stop by for a bit.  Already made a run down to the post office to mail out the newsletters.  After a quick lkunch I have to head to Canandaigua to take care of the cats around my sister's place.  By this evening I expect to have the 20 gal aquarium empty and cleaned.  I am supposed to be hosting a party for a bunch of old retired Fine and Practicle Arts teachers here in a few weeks so I will have to stay on schedule somehow to get the house at least passable (read not too offensive to others...).

Catch you all later!

Sir Madog
. . .I tried something new today. Well, not really new, but for the first time after my stroke. I tried to solder a feeder wire to a length of track and, although it took a long time, I managed to get that done - with the help of a "third hand" and a small clamp to hold the wire against the track. . .

Congratulations on the small victory!

Galaxy - Happy Bd again.

Cn Charlie - How was teh train show ?

John Boy - I am doing MUCH better.  They shocked my heart back into rythm and I feel great- thanks for caring and asking : )

Howmus - Funny picture with the animals and GALAXY made me laugh out loud - sorry Galaxy but it was funny. What in teh world is your sister llike if she is creating international incidents is just a  few short days ?

Ulrich - My ggod ole buiddy best friend Big Smile Gotta any apple pie left to share Dinner I LOVE  a good apple pie ! Whistling - I love your new train - Very nice !!!

Ken - I am so glad you are given up those items. I have lost three people to cancer from smoking and the associated breathing problems- really bad way to go. I do a math excercise with youg guys about the cost of smoking. Here the cigs are about $5 a pack. I ask them how they smoke a week, there age, the cost of their brand and then I do the math up to age 65. I tell them the cost which is usually 5 to 6 digits over a life span and then I add in $1mill. for the cost of cancer treatment. That habit will cost about 1.6million to the average person in their early 30s with teh current cost of cigs and later medical treatments of course prices go up. I did the math and quit some time ago.  - Dryrot - Dryrot may be used for several items. Generally dryrot is slang here for wood that has been exposed to water on and off and but is generally dry. It develops Rot and crumbles to teh touch. It can also if old enough just "rot" even though it has not been exposed to lots of water. Either way it has to be replace and if structural can be an expensive fix. PCM - Oh I didnt know that.

This weekend drove to Glen Allen Md ( 1.5 hours away ) to see a 3300sqft N&W layout. It was incredible. Lucky thing drove all the way there and back. Then drove with my wife to a place 20 minutes away and the brakes went out on teh car ! Phew close call. Made for some tense driving on the return trip home. But we said a prayer and teh good lord saw us home

KEN: The support is free nad in abundance here. What you do with it is up to you.

Just because you dont have the shakes or craving now DOESN'T exactly mean you are not an alcoholic! BUT, ONLY YOU can decide if you are one.

Next, sleep will liekly be interrupted as your body is used to sleep perhaps induced by alchohol, and relaxed enough to sleep. SO you might have some fitful nights coming that are rough.

See my post earlier on insomnia. i slept a whole 3 hours last night, once at 8pm for 1.5 hours, and once at 6:30 Am for a "nap" .

well, I'd best get my butt in gear I am not the only one who needs new glasses! Seeing hte eye dr. htis mornign!

My computer issues continue. I guess I am not the only one who is suffering from Firefox crashes and youtube failures. It´s annoying!

I managed to complete to lengths of track, so I now have all the feeders I need done! No more soldering! Well, I hope ...

Galaxy - PM sent!

Have a good one!

 Morning Dinners

 Flo, Coffee please.

Work Front Sunday. Well, with the way things are going at work I will have to give up eating as well. My total sales this weekend was a whole $250.00? Sunday we only had 3 customers.

Thanks for the support. Another day with out Beer was easy. I was wondering if I was a Alcohlic, guess not. No shakes, or craving. Just glad I never got into the hard stuff.

I am having a harder time falling a sleep at night. But, I may be sleeping a little better. Last night I fell a sleep around 11:30 PM and was up at 6:45. I normally sleep to 8:00 AM. While I don't feel totaly refreshed I am no more tire than I was before I stopped drinking and getting up earlier.

 See you all later, Ken

Morning I guess...guess who isn't sleeping?

Not much any way. about 2 hours. If insomnia wasn't "tiring" I might be ok with it. But not getting much rest isn't fun I think Ulrich can verify.

BTW, Ulrich, who IS that ugly cuss handsome gentleman/men in the picture? Gee, i wonder. I don't dare show my face/pic or I'd break everyones computer screens...Whistling  But nice to seee yours...

Been listening to Les Anges Dans Nos Campagnes, I guess I got the Bug early...of course nothing like hunting down favorties early. My favortie is a vesion by Demis Roussos. I finallly found it and it stragnely has spanish word overlays! Ray would/should be so proud...I have to be careful I don't over do the music it is a bad sign if I start to do that.it means in low depression..When I do, I tend to play the same music over and over and over nad over...its a sign...

well, MAYBe I'll get some shut eye yet, but I doubt it...

Evenin' folks!

Sheesh...  The place is empty here tonight!  Janie, I just need a mug of decaf to sooth me before I head to bed.

I got my sister to the airport in plenty of time for her to make her flight.  I think old age is starting to catch up to her.  She is getting a lot more aches and pains and isn't so cocky about how her doing Yoga makes her so much healthier than the rest of the family.  She used to grab her suitcases and just wheel them into the lobby of the airport by herslef....  This time she paid a porter to do it for her....  I, of course had the privilege of getting the big heavy one down her stairs at her house and carrying it out to the car for her....  She is going for a month to 4 of the Stan countries.  That should give her plenty of time to create an international incident.......  She now has a new cat hanging around her house.  It is very friendly and we are both sure it is one that was dropped in the neighborhood.  Ferral cats don't come over and allow complete strangers to pet them.  This one does.  I also think it was probably a case where the people had to move to where there are no pets allowed.  The reason, As soon as he saw my sisters luggage on the proch he became quite upset and timid....  As if he has seen the scenario before.  I have no doubts he will become an indoor kitty as soon as my sister gets home.  He and Claude have become "through the window" friends already.  Very attractive and friendly little guy.

Had fun at the museum! Today was the first of 3 large Sr. Citizen tours that we will be having over the next week or so.  They were very interested in the trains, had a lot of great questions, and were just fun people to have there.  Next weekend is the start of our Fall foliage days and there will be a lot more people there.  They m,ay bring out a couple of the passenger cars from our Empire State Express coaches and run them rather than the cabeese.  I will probably have to put on the "Conductors Uniform" for those if they do.  Found out today that both Museums have done better this year not working together like we have done in the past.  Interesting!

Ken, I do hope you will be able to stop both the smoking and the drinking as your health will be greatly improved along with your budget being better.  I gave up smoking many, many years ago when my 4 year old son (back then) asked me, "How come you tell the boys and girls at school not to smoke but you do...."  I was embarased that my little kid could figure that out, but I didn't!  Found out I could use the $$$ I saved for a bunch of other things that I enjoyed more than the habit!  Since I got Diabettes, I have a few glasses of local wine and about 3 beers a year....  Mostly at special celebrations over at my son's house.  Good luck to you and I will keep you in my prayers for you to be sucessful!

Ulrich, nice to see you running trains again! YesYes

Hope all of you have a restfull night!

Good Afternoon,

After some showers this morning it is supposed to  be a sunny 68F today which is above normal.

Johnboy, our backyard isn't large but it is very much like a park. About 20 years ago we spent a lot of money having it re-landscaped by a very good company. It has been my wife who has done the many plantings yearly. She has about 60 pots with flowers too. I just dig the holes where she tells me. Lots of birds again this fall especially warblers that are attracted by the waterfall and the pine tree.

Just got back from the trainshow and I guess I should have gone yesterday for the best selection but the weather was too nice to spend indoors. Nevertheless I did pick up 2 Athearn heavyweight coach kits in CN for 6 bucks each. I also got an IHC interior kit that I will adapt to fit. For the N scale I picked up a MT tank car.

I have 2 layouts in different rooms and find that I will work on one and leave the other for a month or so at a time. I tend to run the HO more but come the cold weather it is nice and warm in the furnace room/workshop where the N scale is located so will spend time on it then. I have a list of projects starting with the getting the roadways done and then it will be on to groundcover and other scenery. I have most of the materials, just need to get at it.

Ken, I wish you well in stopping smoking and drinking. I have never smoked but I saw how my father struggled with it and the bad effects it had on his health as he had high blood pressure. He had a bad stroke that finally stopped him smoking.

I think we will do a little birdwatching in the yard today and then it will be time for our Sunday evening PBS marathon watch as in 6 p.m. to midnight.

well the reaction only lasts about 6 hours, but it is frustrationg as I don't knwo which med it is, i take some only at night, so it has to be one of those.

KEN: Quitting beer and cigs will help your bottom line!! When we quit, we h ad an extra $250/m. But now, MOH has gone back and wont stop. I stopped 10 years ago. i had  a bad case of pneumonia about 5 years ago, was hospitlzed for nearly 4 weeks, aobut killed me and Ied...I learned I am enamored of breathing! I'd love to have an occasional cig or cigar but I know if I do, I will be offthe wagon.Used to drink a gallon and a half of vodka a day too. lots of money there too!

I hope you stikc with it.

well all say prayers for you!

Betcha, it feels good to have some trains running again. I just knew that would perk you up. you need that, so don't be trying to escape from the hobby anymore.....

Johnboy - promised, I won´t even try to! It´s my new addiction, after I quit smoking, drinking and ... Whistling Oh, btw, Ken, part of the money now I save is going into the hobby. I have a budget of about $ 30 a month now. OK, that won´t be me any expensive stuff, even after saving up for a long time, but it´s enough to keep me in business. I do my MRRing kangaroo style - big jumps with a small pouch Laugh

Morning All,  if it still is ?

Shame on Me,  here I sit and I should be in Church, but, we had our Grandson for a sleep over last night and we all slept in this AM.  Didn't have time to make it there.

Just finished my morning feeding procedure, Blended up a bunch of Oatmeal, my vitamins and med, along with some Ensure, cinnamon, brown sugar, and a little milk. I guess that should hold me for a couple of hours.  Oh Yeah, had a good shot of carrot juice as well.  It must be doing me well, as I have gained back what I lost that last go round in the horsepital and a couple of pounds to boot. I am now up to 175 lbs.  Before the Cancer treatments started I was 208.

ULRICH,  I had the same problem here with Firefox yesterday. It didn't want to run any of the vids. right through to the end. and some kind of a notice would pop up. I just quit trying them and haven't today yet either.  Betcha, it feels good to have some trains running again.  I just knew that would perk you up.  you need that, so don't be trying to escape from the hobby anymore.....

Mr.B.  It has been a great start to fall here, some trees are bare, many others just a beautiful color and some still wearing their green. The temps have stayed very moderate with good daytime highs but cool nights. Close to frost a couple of times.   We will take the Grandson out to Wascana Park to feed the birds here in the next hour. We can boast about Wascana Park as it is the largest Urban Park in North America, just can't remember the total acreage right now.

Dennis (V8)  Glad to hear it is starting to cool off a little for you.  sure hope it helps with the fire scene there as well.  I bet you are at another Pot Luck today,  Right???

I was glad we heard from CN. Charlie.  You must of had a real busy summer. Your back yard must be like a park now that you don't have that sailboat to babysit.  How do you decide when it is time to run "N" over "HO"  Do you have them intregated or are they seperate layouts?

GALAXY,  Hope you kick what ever has got you down today.  Rest well.

Healing prayers and thoughts for all in need.

Wow, not even morning anymore.  We were out a bit late at a friend's 60th birthday party.  It was a good time.  They live in a condo in a renovated old machinery mill in Lowell, MA.  Kind of a neat place.  How many of us can look down 5 stories into an old mill canal?

Our weather has turned, too.  I had hoped for a couple more weeks of warm bicycle days, but the forecast says otherwise.  I'm going to have to join a gym to keep up with my exercise regimen.

Good Afternoon/Evening, Folks!

I am battling computer issues since yesterday afternoon. Firefox keeps crashing - what a nuisance! Whenever I start to watch a film on youtube, some Bang Head plug-in is not responding, bringing all processes to a grinding halt. Unfortunately, the message does not tell which of those Bang HeadBang HeadBang Head plug-ins is doing this, so I don´t know how to fix this issue!

Mumble, grumble - I am in a foul mood about this!

Ken - you don´t need any patch or nicotine containing gum. The nicotine addiction actually ceases after only about a day, but the bad habit stays much longer. So it is mainly a question of will power to get through it. Guess how I got to know it?

But beware - while stopping to smoke does not necessarily cause you to eat more, your body needs about 2 to 5% less, so you have to watch your food intake as well. So here is my list of no-nos for you:

  • No smoking
  • No drinks
  • No sweet soft drinks
  • No junk food
  • No sweets and candies

I am sure you´ll make it, if you really want it - keeping my fingers crossed for it!

After a little while, you start to feel much better, believe me!

 Morning Dinners!

 Flo, Coffee please

Work Front Yesterday Dave was sober and the door swung his way! He kicked my butt sales wise!

Remember the soul searching I spoke of a few days ago? Well I made the decision this Friday but had a epic failuer the first day. I decide to stop drinking Beer. Last night I changed my routine and won! I have not had a Beer for 36 hours now.

What I would do normally was come home, change clothes, take med's and play on the computer while I was drinking. It was just my way of life and had been that way for 30 years plus. So last night, I came home and had supper as soon as I changed and did not feel like drinking.

This as nothing to do with Drunk Dave and I wish I could say it was for my health, but it is not. It is pure and simple, I cannot afford to drink and smoke on what I make!

I keep very detail records on what I spend daily, weekly and monthly from food, Vet bills, Car Repairs and so forth. But I do not keep YTD totals. I think it was last Wednesday I ran a YTD total on Beer and Cigarettes and while I knew it was a lot per month, I was stuned by the year total's! I am drinking and smoking my self out of house and home!

Now, I not saying I will never have a Beer again but I will not drink 7 days a week any longer! Smoking, that one will be hard to beat. Going to speak with my VA Dr this Wendensay abuot either the patch or the gum to help stop smoking. Wish they used the Vap thing but last time I asked they did not.

Well, I will see you all Monday.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Uncle_Bob
Hey now! We're not like people to our south, who shut everything when there's a possibility of flurries! What do you expect in the DC area, though!Surprise We moved into our house on Veterans Day a few years ago, and it was still warm outside -- warm enough that, a week or so later, we had an incursion by a bat! So, maybe Galaxy should hope for cold, snow and ice for when he moves into his new place.

LOL, I lived and taught for 11 years about 40 miles to the West of where Galaxy lives.  An inch of snow in Waverly, NY could close School for a couple of days....  I was just barbing him!  Inside joke so to speak.  Oddly enough we usually diodn't get much snow in the wintertime and with the hills and back roads when they did it could be a real problem.  One time after a major snowfall (they got a foot of snow) the local paper ran a letter to the editor from the Mayor thanking the road crew for their fast and efficient plowing in town.  Most of the streets in Waverly hadn't seen The plow and were still snowed in a week later.  Of course THE plow did get to the side street where the MAYOR lived within a couple days.  It took them that long to figure out how to get the plow attached to THE truck.  After several more days when THE truck with the PLOW (only one they had) came down my street.  I ran in the house and grabbed my camera and got outside just as it went by.  I sent the photo to the local paper to prove that such a thing actually did exist!  They decided not to publish it, but I had fun showing it to all the neighbors.....

BTW, Uncle B where do you hale from?

I made some progress today.  Printed up the copies of the Division Newsletter that need to be mailed, got them put together, and they are now waiting to be addressed.  Should go out on Monday.  Those that download them on line got the notice several days ago...  Did some cleaning up of the spot where the old metal shed used to be and put the trash and recycling bins there.  I also almost have the 20 gal aquarium drained.  Got the cover and some other things all cleaned up and ready to use again.

Tomorrow I will taking my sister to the airport so she can travel to the "Very Far" (someplace in Asia) and then head over to the R&GV RR Museum to work train crew The afternoon.  We have a bus load of senior citizens arriving to tour the museum and get a train ride.  Should be only two trips.

Hope you all have a restful night.  My prayers to all in need!
