 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please

Today went to heck in a hand basket.

1 Started Sue's car and heard nothing odd, well that is pretty normal when it comes to her car problems. (lets just say she is a little nuts and hear things most of the time) Dropped her car off at Bob's and we where 15 mintues late to get the tires ordered for today. So she will not have a car for Thursday.

2 Went to the bank and stopped by and paid my Cable bill. I was not feeling well by then.

3 Needed a roof rack for the car so I could haul the lumber. Only place that had one was by my store? Best hidden auto parts store I ever found, drove by it 3 times. What should have taken 45 minutes took a hour and a half.

4 Went to the libary and picked up a DVD about Pearl Harbor and a book for Sue.

5 Went to Lowes to get my lumber. Went to install the new Roof Rack, straps and channel hooks are junk! Rack it self is OK, but I need better straps to hold it down. By this time I was having a low sugar attack so I said Caboose this and came home.

 Later, Ken

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Hope you all had a great Day.   Very sorry to hear about new health problems.  YGW, prayers for your good friend who has a hopper load of problems.

YGW,  you were asking about several things about the LM&E. It is old school,  DC, code 100 Atlas track, Peco turnouts, mainly manual, some remote, layout is powered by three MRC ControlMaster20s. Locos are Athearn, Bachmann, Atlas and one Kato.  Era is early 70s.  Railroad if a fictious Holding of the Western Pacific .. >> Last Mountain & Eastern RR.

The water out of the drain pipe on the retaining wall.  It is one strip of clear silicon placed onto some waxed paper until set-up, then pealed off and stuck into the pipe, cut to length, and then I added WS. water effects to show the splash and the flow in the river.   (Envirotex lite)

Below you will see the same process used for the waterfall under the bridge, only this time on the waxed paper I put multiple strips to creat the width needed and then jammed at it with a popcycle stick to get the strips to form together and creat a roughness. This then was cut to fit onto a piece of foamcore that I had painted in a camoflage pattern with blue, green, brown, gray, etc. to give it some depth and then cut the whole thing to fit in behind the bridge.  It does work very well. ---  Enjoy

It was a tip out of MR sometime ago.

Off to work for the next three days, so had better get some sleep.

I'm also Batching as my Better half is in British Isles and France for three weeks with her Sisters.  But I don't have to cook much, just pour it in out of the bottle or can.  Saves on cooking time and dish washing.  Always looking for the silver lining.

Br. Elias, glad you are back home safe and sound.  Did you have a good holiday?

Can't think of other Q&As I should have at this point, so its off to bed..

GM, MEN!

Today's word:

Lorelei

If you have ever called someone brainy an Einstein, or someone clever and perceptive a Sherlock (sometimes sarcastically), you have made use of an eponym.

An eponym is a word coined after a person, from Greek epi- (upon) + -onym (name). The English language has thousands of them, for men and women, from fact and fiction, obscure and well-known, home-grown and borrowed from other languages.

This week we’ll feature five assorted eponyms.

PRONUNCIATION:
(LOR-uh-ly) http://wordsmith.org/words/lorelei.mp3

MEANING:
noun: A dangerously seductive woman.

ETYMOLOGY:
In German legend Lorelei was a nymph who sat on a rock of the same name on the Rhine river. Her songs lured sailors to their destruction on the rock. Earliest documented use: 1878. Also see siren, Mata Hari, and Circe.

USAGE:

In fact, Peter the Publican’s daughter is his Lorelei, enticing customers into his establishment, then flirting brazenly just to keep them drinking.”
Michael Dirda; These Dead Men Don’t Just Tell Tales, They Quarrel. A Lot; The Washington Post; Apr 9, 2015.

Good Day, Folks!

The spell of nice weather we recently had is definitively over. It´s wet and warm (not hot, though), a rather unpleasant mix!

My ear is acting up again. It feels hot and there is a little conductor inside, constanly blowing a whistle. I have a late afternoon doc appointment for having that checked.

I really miss building a layout. The one my friend built from using leftovers does not work well - the curves are too tight and the locos tend to derail at the switches - caused by the tabletop switch motors. I have packed up everything and may sell a few bits of it.

If I ever come around to being able of building a small layout - I´d go for modelling a prototype location in Switzerland (or it least part of it). Imagine running your trains according to the prototype´s schedule Smile, Wink & Grin

This could be a plan for such a venue:

It´s more of a diorama than a real layout, mounted on drawer slides and embedded into a loop, which folds up, when the layout is not in use.

It´s a quite close model of the Stugl/Stuls station on the Rhaetian Railway´s Albula line.

Maybe one fine day...

G-Man - how´s the house hunt coming along?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR Mug and a couple sour cream glazed donuts to dunk this morning.

I am sore this morning....  Lifted too many concrete blocks yesterday I guess.  Want to get a bit more done on the porject before I head over to me Son's house to watch the girls while Son and DIL have a date for their 10th. anniversary.

Dark and Gloomy here in the Finger lakes this morning.  Currently 63°F with a high of 70°F later this afternoon.  Not supposed to have any precipitation though.

Ulrich,  I just love your mini RR designs.

Lion, nice photo.  Shows quite clearly why the windows don't open on the subway cars!  I always tell folks at the Museum that we want you to go home with everything you brought....  Camera, hats, heads, arms, kids.....  Stuff like that!

Guess i best get moving if I am to accomnplish anything.  later!

Ray - it´s a bit of a hobby within the hobby for me. I like using the new freebie tool called SCARM - especially its 3D feature. Landscaping is a little bit awkward and designing the buildings is also a tedious job, but it´s worth it!

Btw, the buildings on that plan are close to the real thing!

Hey you guys!!!

I've been occupied with 2 jobs and, trying to find parts for the new motor for my car, actually working on my model trains for a change that I forgot to hop in here.

As for the trains, I haven't really bought anything since the last time I jumped in. I have been working on a lot of my proto 2000 kit cars, but I will have to order some #5s someday. I weathered an Intermounain tank for a friend, and a few boxcars for myself. Sadly no pics as my cell phone's camera sucks and my camera is a power hog (it can''t function on rechargables, I bought 8 thinking I could use them over and over, but nope).

As far as the new motor for my car, I really haven't done much work. I got the pistons in the block with the connecting rods, but stopped there. My father is trying to work a deal with some of his friends so I can get a cam and better cylinder heads. But then the heat index has been 120 F or better most of the summer....

I am a bit upset with my jobs though. I had to work on my birthday (today I turned 26). Then when I was at work Fed-ex came by. So I missed my present to myself (not train related).

Anyone else have any hidden audio advertisment play on this site? I had one when I had multiple tabs open, but couldn't make it out cause I was listening to some music.

Anyways, I don't know if I can even catch up....

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Packer/V9ncent {or is it really "vinnie'?}

Happy B-Day You have now passed your first quarter century of life, may you have 3 more!

Well, I really tried hard to get on here today, but it kept coming up "the page you want is not available". or whatever it says. Multiple times.

So I try now and it works..must have been down?

well, we are letting the sellers stew on the offer, Tomorrow we wil let our agent know ot let hte seller's agent know we

1} are going up $200 {I know whoopie},

2} IF we have to go any higher, SELLER CONCESSIONS WILL be added back in to ANY future price point we offer! {they don't seem to want to give any concessions. SO..now if they want a bigger # on the sales price line, it WILL get subtracted on the seller concessions line!

SO, IF, say, it was our offer price of $8k, with no concessions, no selling our place as a contingency, Net to them: $8K-----and their last offer was say $12k w/ no concessions--------and we go UP to $11k WITH $3k in concessions, They will STILL net ONLY the $8K!  SOUNDS STUPID to us  for them NOT to take the $68k net straight. BUT if they want to see that stupid "1" in front of the offer, MAYBE we can do it. {depends on financing for the "11K" number.. we are prequalified for the $8k number and it was mentioned going to the 11 number, but MAYBe if we have to, we can.

3} we have other options, even if it means waiting the winter out.

so, well, it is 8:20 here, and it is about past my bed time..

so 'later

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please and one for Vincent

It was restful today at work, and to honest I glad. After yesterday low blood surger I was beat, I slept 14 hours last night.

Another reason I have been tired (Besides the fact I am old and Fat) is in the last 16 weeks I have worked 15 6 day weeks. Well this is the last week, sort of sad about that and glad at the same time. While I need the money, it was getting old.

Drunk Dave is being left on his own at my store. Well, they are hoping it will be trap. Everyone was up set that Dave keeps going to his Van when he is working at my store! So this last Monday Dave had the Law Laid out for him! He was to bring everything in when he comes in the store and not to go to his Van till closing peroid! Friday Paul (GM) is going to watching the store and see if Dave stay's inside, then later will go in and see if Dave has been Drinks. He could be bring Drinks in with him on day's he works a lone.

YGW Real sorry to hear about your friend!

Galaxy Good luck on yoor house quest.

Ulrich Hope the ear problems get's cured quick!

 Later, Ken

Afternoon Folks!

I am not a happy camper today! My ear is acting up and I won´t be able to see a doc about it before coming Thursday. I hope it´s not too late by then.

Garry - yes, it is a lovely station. Faller has a kit, which is only available in Switzerland. I don´t understand why, as there are plenty of model railroaders in germany modeling Swiss prototype, resp. Rhaetian Railway prototype. I am lucky to have a friend in Switzerland who had sent that kit last Christmas. I was able to assemble it before my stroke struck.

Just for the fun of it, I did some more detailing of my drawings! I have added signals, the overhead wire, a fountain, the last missing building the prototype location has, changed the color of the buildings to resemble the wooden facades and added a third track to the staging yard. I sure wish I could build this layout, but without massive help, this won´t be possible.

Here are the enhanced drawings:

Sir Madog
Over 5 hours since my last post!

And....  This is 5 hours after your post Ulrich....  Guess everyone is busy doing other stuff or they have some good stuff over across the street and everyone is over there.  I dunno....

I didn't make it in this morning myself.  Was going to sit down and start typing a few times, and then something else got my attention.  This afternoon I was just about ready to do a post, looked at my watch, and found I was a half hour late for a Crew meeting I was supposed to be at.  This is the BSA Crew that I am Commissioner for, not the crew out at the museum.  We had a good meeting and I left with a list of things I need to take care of for them.

Spent quite a bit of time cleaning the bathroom today.  Sure needed it.  I'm about half done now....  I am not the world's best housekeeper!  I also changed out the old and clogged filters on one of my stand alone Hepa Filters.  This one will be used down in the train rooms and the even older and no longer useful one down there will go to the Household Hazardous Waste day at the landfill.  They take electronics of all kinds....

I didn't get outside to pull up more of the concrete stone blocks that I am moving to make the last of the raised beds in the garden.  I should have exactly the number I need to complete the first two rows.  The top row is slightly different casting and I have plenty of them.  Once I get the blocks moved I will call the paving company and see what it will cost me to remove the old asperagus bed and the remaining herbs in that part and put pavement down.  That will let me pull the PiP up right by the side of the house and make the plugging in for the charging easier and more protected.

I'm hoping tomorrow to get some time in the train rooms.  Need to do a couple loads of wash, so that is a good excuse to work on one of the many projects down there.  I have been cleaning out stuff from the basement and since the trash bin and the recycling bin are both empty at the moment, perhaps I can start filling them both up again...

Catch you all later!

well, it's past my bedtime, but MOH is baking 2 four layer cakes for Black Forrest cakes for a shindig tomorrow. So we are up late, as smelling the cakes, I had to  bake one for us too!

I was busy all day. I reorganized some of the kithcen so we'd a] know what we got, b] find the 'special stuff' for the cakes for tomorrow, c] organize it better.... d] reduce schtuff in case we DO move...

so that's my story!

Evening guys

Work today sucked. Boss hurt her hand and thus can't really do much of anything. Guess who has to take up the slack? Me. Well ok, she never did much before she got hurt, now she does even less work... Then she forgot to schedule someone to come in after my scheduled time, so I had to stay late... You know that adage about "don't call (something) late for dinner"? Yup, that was me today.

I got taken out to eat a day late for my birthday. We tried a new burger joint. It was good, but I don't really know if it can be called a burger. There was no way I could eat it like a normal burger, I had to cut it with a knife....

Up early, after late night, will be tired afternoon.

Well, I already have a chore, to go to the grocery store for somehting forgotten. DOn't remmeber what, but will write it down so I don't forget it.

DOn't know anything new on the houses,, except that the sellers don't know a thing about the old septic system..?

what else? dunno.

Will be busy so I won't be in much.so

Good morning ..... Pass the donuts please.

I attended a dinner last night celebrating a 50th Anniversary for Gus (model railroad friend ) and his wife. Food was good and we saw some Pdaucah & Louisville locomotives in Princeton.

Ulrich .... I like that Faller station. Glad you could make it before your stroke. I'm sad to hear how the stroke affects your ability to do mdoel rairlaoding and other activities too.

Vincent .... Sometimes I wonder why certain people are selected to be bosses. Good luck with that one..... Ken has had his share of difficult bosses too.

Galaxy ... Maybe the right house will come along soon.

Ray .... You seem busy.

Lion .... That does not look like the handicapped entrance to 191st Street.

Ken ... Nice photo.

Happy Model Railroading

Back in the Grand Canyon State after spending the week in Raleigh, NC. I have to admit, it was nice to get up so temperatures in the mid-60s. This morning I left for my morning ride at 5:30, before the sun was up, and the temperature was 83. We have about another month of summer, then it should break.

Mornin' everyone!

Nice to see a crowd here this morning....  Zoe, I'll have a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.

Currently 73°F outside this morning (only 72° in the house...) with some sunshine going on out there...  Need the next 3 days to be good ones with some massive spills of solar energy to come out even with last year on the solar panels for the month of August.  Been a lot of cloudy days this month.

Yep, Garry, I have had a very busy year so far, but have gotten a lot accomplished.  Been doing a lot of things that needed to be done that I would normally just ignore for a while longer.

Hoping to get the raised bed area finished today.  As soon as I get the wall blocks moved I will get in touch with the paving company to get an estimate on adding a few feet to the main driveway and removing the old herb garden and asperagus bed.  I'm hoping to hear from the Plumber soon.  He said he hoped to be able to get to my needs during the weekend...  Time will tell.  I also need to finish cleaning the bathroom today.

Best get moving, I have wasted most of the morning (didn't get up until after 9AM) already.

 Flo, beer please

Today At Work Just Plain Sucked Rail Spikes! (can I say that?) Smile, Wink & Grin I We had a 11 customers and only 2 where worth a dang. To be honest I was glad Dave was there so I did not have to waite on all of the cabbosses my self!

Far As Dave Goes He was late, so that is normal, well only 8 minutes so that is early by his standerds. He only went to his Van 3 times today, guess that talk they had with him Monday sunk in.  He was very quite, he would answer me if I spoke to him but that was it. Guess he is mad at me for telling Paul about all the trips to the Van he made last weekend. Did do a lot of pacing and staring out the window at his Van?  One thing that was new for him, he spent a lot of time on his cell phone and made sure I could not hear him. I am guessing it was with his spouncer rather it be AA or another group.

Fence Front I have not touched it for 2 weeks now. I hope to pick up the special pressuer treated lumber Sunday and a little digging done.

Gary Glad you like the photo I posted. For some reason I think it is a layout? What do you think?

 See you all Sunday.

Evenin' folks!

Janie,.............  Ah....  I need Ibuprofen....  And a cup of decaf.

The Raised bed is finished!  Well I need to get about 4 more bags of MooSoil™ to fill it and another bag of sand to add to it, but other than that, 48 blocks of landscape concrete have been dug out of the ground where the old bed was and piled in place for the new one.

Here are a few other photos of the garden with the added (someday to be) herb garden.

Yes I know the closest wooden raised bed with the Cabbage, Broccoli, and peppers needs to be weeded.....  Maybe tomorrow if I can still move.  We are supposed to get some thunderstorms and after the ground is wet is the best time to pull weeds out there.  Broccoli is ready to be picked.  One nice head already was cut and taken out to my son's house.  About Monday I will bring in one for myself.

I finally got a wash in this evening.  First load is in the dryer and the second is washing as I type.  I also cleaned out the cabinet under the bathroom sink so when the plumber does get here he can have access to change out the faucet.  Ten years ago I would done it myself!  Must be getting old as I no longer have any interest in laying on the floor with both arms stuck in under the sink changing out anything.... Whistling  I also want him to fix the broken outside faucet.  It would be nice to give the garden a drink of water once in a while.  I don't water lawns!  EVER!  That just makes them grow and then I have to mow them more often.  Never water a lawn and don't under any circumstances put fertilizer on it!!!  Never! WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin  Vegetables?  Well that's different...

Ken, maybe Dave should go here:

If Dave only went to the van 3 times today, isn't that still three times more than he is allowed to?  What part of NO doesn't he understand?

Thought for the day: "To me 'drink responsibly' means don't spill it."

I hope that I will actually be able to move tomorrow morning, get myself out of bed, and stop in here for breakfast....  Have a great evening people!

Good Morning!

Yesterday was not a good day. My ear was all hot, so Petra took me to the ER. They did not do much other than giving me pain killers, but now I definitevely have to go for ear surgery coming Thursday!

I spent the rest of the day adding detail to the drawings of my "dream" layout. Unfortunately, the detail is not really visible in the pictures. Small things like details added to the catenary, a bench, a stack of firewood, just don´t show up Crying

It be nice having the layout and do a bit of railfanning at the Stugl/Stuls station in the Grisons Mountains in Switzerland!

I sure miss doing some MRRing!

Ulrich,

Seems to Me...that when You were scratch building those structure's months ago You were more relaxed and at ease with some of Your misfortune's of life.....maybe You should try doing that again...small diorama's that can be incorporated into a larger plan some day.....keep Your mind at ease. I know I felt a lot better sitting at My work bench building things, even messing up some, due to sight and shaky hands after My stroke. My Doc' even said, that is excellent therapy, mentally and physically......All I can say is it worked for Me.

''Never Give Up''....My most used line to Jeffery, in our many conversations.

Best of Hope,for You!

Take Care! Big Smile
