Evenin' folks!

Janie, a large mug of decaf is quite necessary right now.

Ray: your musician sign, boy is that ever true.

LOL, I have on occasion loaded $40,000 worth of sound equipment in to a 2 ton axle trailer and driven well over 100 miles to get to a gig pulling the trailer with my old Dodge Dakota that when I traded it in was only really worth $350 for scrap...  Whistling By the time I paid my help, I sometimes had $25 left for myself.... I was a Professional Musician for 48 years of my life.  Now a deaf, former Middle School Music Teacher.  That will do it every time!  But I sure had a lot of fun going deaf!!!

Anyone heard anything from Galaxy?

I drove to Canandaigua to turn in the $$$ for the account for the MLK Committee and then stopped at the place and picked up the soil and sand I needed.  The Raised bed is now finished and awaits a couple transplants of herbs to see if they will survive the winter.  I cleaned the drinking fountain for the cats this evening...  It really needed it.  I should have cleaned it completely weeks ago and have been too busy with other stuff.  Manét is not acting up to snuff as they say so I am watching him.  He has been drinking a lot of water today and just sleeping here in the dinig room.  Walks a few feet and then lays down...  He is acting a bit better tonight (he ah..., used the litter box this afternoon and may just have been, ah....  Bound up?).  He is alert but just doesn't seem quite right.

Hope you all have a great night!  Prayers for all in need (that is all of us I think!).

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

It was a Great Slow Day till the last half hour. Reason I said it was a Great Slow Day was up till 7:30 PM I had only had one customer, but it was a good one! Made a extra $115.00 on one sale, that works for me!

Day started Blowing around 7:30, it started with a call from Nancy. She wanted the phone number to the Hair And Wig Shop next door. I have a very good idea what that was about! When the buliding went on the market there owner came over 2 times to look around the inside of my store. That was a few months ago. My guess is they are not getting the offers they where hoping for, so they are calling them back with a offer.

Besides the fact the store is only 10 miles away, what I am worried about more than anything is my job now that Drunk Dave is back! When they do sale the store (that part I cannot blame them for) some one will lose there job. If Drunk Dave can show up late by a half hour to a hour 70% of the time, keep the store a mess, have cash bank deposits 7 to 15 days late, not follow the company policy, give away stuff with out putting it on the ticket,(so he makes a higher spiff) and get Drunk On The Job! What chances do I have keeping my job, like a dummie I try to do things right! Bang Head

Good Evening Diners,

Blunhilda, I'll have a glass of whatever passes for wine, preferably red, please.

Ride on:  I don't know your age, but I'll assume you would be racing the senior categories.  Just that you could keep up with the younger riders for a mile is saying something.  I would drop off the back in less than 200 yards.

Ulrich:  I think you've done amazingly well with scarm.  You're a good layout designer.  I saw that in the 2x4 layout you designed for me.

Ray: your musician sign,  boy is that ever true.

Work is going well, and I love what I do.

i hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

No Galaxy? No Ulrich? No Lion? Seems awful quiet today. Is it a new holiday and nobody told me?

Mornin' folks!

Chloe, I could use another cup of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee please...

Hmmmmm....  Galaxy appears to be missing for the last couple days.  Was this the weekend he was going to go somewhere with His Other Half?  Hope everything is alright.....

Another rather gray, overcast day here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Looks I will be be around 25 kWh short of equalling last years electric output from last year.  Only good thing is that my electric use is also down from last year so I am actually a bit ahead $$$ wise.

Have to make a run to the Bank in Canandaigua this afternoon to deposit a large donation to the MLK Scholarship Fund.  I will stop in to the Stone, rock, topsoil, mulch, place on the way back home to get the needed supplies to finish the garden.

Thought for the day:

Make it a good one!

Today I learned I can still hang with the big dawgs, at least for a short while. I was out for my morning ride and on the way home I saw a pair of younger, stronger riders up ahead. They were riding at a conversational pace, at least for them, so I was able to close the 200 yards to get in their draft. We rode the first mile at about 30 MPH, conversational for them, aggressive for me. After a mile, one of the riders turned the corner, and the remaining rider decided to test me. He picked up the pace, about 33 MPH.  I rode for all I was worth for about a mile, until he turned off. (I was glad he turned; I was pretty well blown.) When I got home, I checked my heart rate monitor--I maxed out at 177 bpm. Using the 220-minus-your-age equation to determine my theoretical maximum heart rate I should have maxed out at 165 bpm. Another way to look at it is that I, theoretically, have the heart of a 43-year-old. I’ll take it.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf to finish the day would be great right now.

Other than doing my grocery shopping (I now have a dollar off fossilied crap when I have to fill the PiP), getting caught up on some email stuff I needed to do (MLK Scholarship processing for instance), finishing the laundry, and dilluting and draining the vinegar solution I used to clean the old 100 gal. aquarium, I have goofed off all day.

How about a new sport?

If my cats were outdoors ones I might try this...

While Dave is not following the letter of the law, only going out to his Van only three times is a record! On a normal day, he would go out to the Van say 25 to 30 times? Well, we now know why, that is where he had his Drinks hidden.

I'm surprised the local police haven't caught up with him on the way home....???

I wonder where Galaxy is hiding today?

Hope you all have a good night!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Sort Of Work Front. It was Sloooow today! We only had 3 customers today and Dave got the best 1 and could not do a darn thing with them! He beat me to the store by 15 seconds, first person in get the first customer. I had to stop and get air in one of the tires, so that is how he beat me, we where both 2 mintues late. Well I was 2 minutes and 15 seconds late.

Ray While Dave is not following the letter of the law, only going out to his Van only three times is a record! On a normal day, he would go out to the Van say 25 to 30 times? Well, we now know why, that is where he had his Drinks hidden. Today he went out 4 times. When he saw me pulling in to the parking lot he made a mad dash into the store with out his tie, coffee (or what ever it is) and food so he be in before me.

Train Front Having sort of a odd problem with the PCM Y-6b. At around a scale speed of say 25 MPH there is two sections of track it will stall at. Slower speeds, not a problem. Guessing the rail are flexing some what so it loses power. All so notice there are no feeders wires in one section.

 See you all Monday

Good afternoon.  Just came back from off-the-grid for a week's camping trip to friend's wild rice camp.  Nice weather this past week, although a bit warm.  The weather changed overnight to very windy so we came in for a shower and home cooked meal.

Friend's daughter who grew up in Florida is visiting and saw the Northern Lights for the first time and exclamed to her father, "what's wrong with the sky?"  I guess if you have never experienced Northern Lights that would be a normal response.

John-Boy, has it been very smokey in Regina the past week?  It has up north.

Howmus, your raised beds look very nice.  Always wondered whether they help with weeds and bugs.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Whistling

G'd Morning Gang,

Who is that asleep in the corner booth with the hat pulled over his                          eyes ?    Zzz

OH Yeah, that's Ray, he must have really played himself out yesterday.

Yeah, we'll just let him sleep and recuperate.

Chloe, when time permits, I would like a bowl of Oatmeal with milk, three slices of cinnamon toast and a hot chocolate.  Feels like fall here this morning.

Not much news to report today. Had a busy week at work and any free time was spent getting the yard work done as today my third Son , his wife and my Grandson leave   for a week in the Billings area. They will be doing some camping in their cabin trailer and I will stay at my youngest Son's home.  This is my get away while my Wife is touring G.B., Ireland and France with her Sisters (3).

I have about 5 shipments waiting for me at my Son's, one of them being my Grandson's Christmas Present. ( a Bachmann Ho Thomas the Train Set .) I will have a time to hide that from him on this trip,  and I plan on picking up a few other items at Jim's Junction in Billings. A couple of Blue Point turnout controllers for sure as I had him special order them the last time I was there as he was out of them right then. Then whatever else perks my interest and there always seems to be something, even when you know that you really don't need anything else.  Funny how that goes.

Well, I had better get back and finishing my packing. There is alot more to pack these days now that I have to accomodate all this tube feeding business with equipment and bottles and cans of nourishment.

If I don't get back in for awhile, I wish you all health, wealth and success in the persuit of what ever you are chasing.   Healing prayers and energies for all who are in need.

Happy railroading,

Johnboy out.......................................

Mornin' everyone,

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel with egg and cheese this morning to go along with a large pot of dark roast coffee.....  Huh?  Oh, yes the Marrakesh Express would be perfect!  Thank you Ma'am.

V8Vega
Whats the purpose of a raised bed as opposed to a garden in the ground. I've been wondering that.

Several reasons, but for me, the ease of preparing the bed, planting the bed, and taking care of it are the biggest plusses.  Also bunny rabbits don't usually decide to try jumping up into them to do damage like they do if they get into a regular garden  (at least they have stayed out of mine so far).  I can plant them tighter, and the productivity tends to be better.  All the gardening "Experts" around here recommend them for small properties.  More info can be found here.

Well.......  I am out of bed, limping around, just about what I thought I would feel like this morning.  Actually not too bad I guess.  Need to include more actual physical work into my schedule.

71°F outside at the moment with a high of 81°F later this afternoon.  Predictions are for a few thunderboomers.  If they hold off, it is time to once again mow the turf on my property.  If I can't do that today, I think I'll get back to the layout for a bit.  I know I would enjoy that!

edit:  Forgot to put in a thought for the day....

Hope all of you are well.  have a great day!

Ulrich,

Seems to Me...that when You were scratch building those structure's months ago You were more relaxed and at ease with some of Your misfortune's of life.....maybe You should try doing that again...small diorama's that can be incorporated into a larger plan some day.....keep Your mind at ease. I know I felt a lot better sitting at My work bench building things, even messing up some, due to sight and shaky hands after My stroke. My Doc' even said, that is excellent therapy, mentally and physically......All I can say is it worked for Me.

''Never Give Up''....My most used line to Jeffery, in our many conversations.

Best of Hope,for You!

Take Care! Big Smile

Good Morning!

Yesterday was not a good day. My ear was all hot, so Petra took me to the ER. They did not do much other than giving me pain killers, but now I definitevely have to go for ear surgery coming Thursday!

I spent the rest of the day adding detail to the drawings of my "dream" layout. Unfortunately, the detail is not really visible in the pictures. Small things like details added to the catenary, a bench, a stack of firewood, just don´t show up Crying

It be nice having the layout and do a bit of railfanning at the Stugl/Stuls station in the Grisons Mountains in Switzerland!

I sure miss doing some MRRing!

Evenin' folks!

Janie,.............  Ah....  I need Ibuprofen....  And a cup of decaf.

The Raised bed is finished!  Well I need to get about 4 more bags of MooSoil™ to fill it and another bag of sand to add to it, but other than that, 48 blocks of landscape concrete have been dug out of the ground where the old bed was and piled in place for the new one.

Here are a few other photos of the garden with the added (someday to be) herb garden.

Yes I know the closest wooden raised bed with the Cabbage, Broccoli, and peppers needs to be weeded.....  Maybe tomorrow if I can still move.  We are supposed to get some thunderstorms and after the ground is wet is the best time to pull weeds out there.  Broccoli is ready to be picked.  One nice head already was cut and taken out to my son's house.  About Monday I will bring in one for myself.

I finally got a wash in this evening.  First load is in the dryer and the second is washing as I type.  I also cleaned out the cabinet under the bathroom sink so when the plumber does get here he can have access to change out the faucet.  Ten years ago I would done it myself!  Must be getting old as I no longer have any interest in laying on the floor with both arms stuck in under the sink changing out anything.... Whistling  I also want him to fix the broken outside faucet.  It would be nice to give the garden a drink of water once in a while.  I don't water lawns!  EVER!  That just makes them grow and then I have to mow them more often.  Never water a lawn and don't under any circumstances put fertilizer on it!!!  Never! WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin  Vegetables?  Well that's different...

Ken, maybe Dave should go here:

If Dave only went to the van 3 times today, isn't that still three times more than he is allowed to?  What part of NO doesn't he understand?

Thought for the day: "To me 'drink responsibly' means don't spill it."

I hope that I will actually be able to move tomorrow morning, get myself out of bed, and stop in here for breakfast....  Have a great evening people!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, beer please

Today At Work Just Plain Sucked Rail Spikes! (can I say that?) Smile, Wink & Grin I We had a 11 customers and only 2 where worth a dang. To be honest I was glad Dave was there so I did not have to waite on all of the cabbosses my self!

Far As Dave Goes He was late, so that is normal, well only 8 minutes so that is early by his standerds. He only went to his Van 3 times today, guess that talk they had with him Monday sunk in.  He was very quite, he would answer me if I spoke to him but that was it. Guess he is mad at me for telling Paul about all the trips to the Van he made last weekend. Did do a lot of pacing and staring out the window at his Van?  One thing that was new for him, he spent a lot of time on his cell phone and made sure I could not hear him. I am guessing it was with his spouncer rather it be AA or another group.

Fence Front I have not touched it for 2 weeks now. I hope to pick up the special pressuer treated lumber Sunday and a little digging done.

Gary Glad you like the photo I posted. For some reason I think it is a layout? What do you think?

 See you all Sunday.

Mornin' everyone!

Nice to see a crowd here this morning....  Zoe, I'll have a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.

Currently 73°F outside this morning (only 72° in the house...) with some sunshine going on out there...  Need the next 3 days to be good ones with some massive spills of solar energy to come out even with last year on the solar panels for the month of August.  Been a lot of cloudy days this month.

Yep, Garry, I have had a very busy year so far, but have gotten a lot accomplished.  Been doing a lot of things that needed to be done that I would normally just ignore for a while longer.

Hoping to get the raised bed area finished today.  As soon as I get the wall blocks moved I will get in touch with the paving company to get an estimate on adding a few feet to the main driveway and removing the old herb garden and asperagus bed.  I'm hoping to hear from the Plumber soon.  He said he hoped to be able to get to my needs during the weekend...  Time will tell.  I also need to finish cleaning the bathroom today.

Best get moving, I have wasted most of the morning (didn't get up until after 9AM) already.

Back in the Grand Canyon State after spending the week in Raleigh, NC. I have to admit, it was nice to get up so temperatures in the mid-60s. This morning I left for my morning ride at 5:30, before the sun was up, and the temperature was 83. We have about another month of summer, then it should break.

Good morning ..... Pass the donuts please.

I attended a dinner last night celebrating a 50th Anniversary for Gus (model railroad friend ) and his wife. Food was good and we saw some Pdaucah & Louisville locomotives in Princeton.

Ulrich .... I like that Faller station. Glad you could make it before your stroke. I'm sad to hear how the stroke affects your ability to do mdoel rairlaoding and other activities too.

Vincent .... Sometimes I wonder why certain people are selected to be bosses. Good luck with that one..... Ken has had his share of difficult bosses too.

Galaxy ... Maybe the right house will come along soon.

Ray .... You seem busy.

Lion .... That does not look like the handicapped entrance to 191st Street.

Ken ... Nice photo.

Happy Model Railroading

Evening guys

Work today sucked. Boss hurt her hand and thus can't really do much of anything. Guess who has to take up the slack? Me. Well ok, she never did much before she got hurt, now she does even less work... Then she forgot to schedule someone to come in after my scheduled time, so I had to stay late... You know that adage about "don't call (something) late for dinner"? Yup, that was me today.

I got taken out to eat a day late for my birthday. We tried a new burger joint. It was good, but I don't really know if it can be called a burger. There was no way I could eat it like a normal burger, I had to cut it with a knife....

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

well, it's past my bedtime, but MOH is baking 2 four layer cakes for Black Forrest cakes for a shindig tomorrow. So we are up late, as smelling the cakes, I had to  bake one for us too!

I was busy all day. I reorganized some of the kithcen so we'd a] know what we got, b] find the 'special stuff' for the cakes for tomorrow, c] organize it better.... d] reduce schtuff in case we DO move...

so that's my story!

Sir Madog
Over 5 hours since my last post!

And....  This is 5 hours after your post Ulrich....  Guess everyone is busy doing other stuff or they have some good stuff over across the street and everyone is over there.  I dunno....

I didn't make it in this morning myself.  Was going to sit down and start typing a few times, and then something else got my attention.  This afternoon I was just about ready to do a post, looked at my watch, and found I was a half hour late for a Crew meeting I was supposed to be at.  This is the BSA Crew that I am Commissioner for, not the crew out at the museum.  We had a good meeting and I left with a list of things I need to take care of for them.

Spent quite a bit of time cleaning the bathroom today.  Sure needed it.  I'm about half done now....  I am not the world's best housekeeper!  I also changed out the old and clogged filters on one of my stand alone Hepa Filters.  This one will be used down in the train rooms and the even older and no longer useful one down there will go to the Household Hazardous Waste day at the landfill.  They take electronics of all kinds....

I didn't get outside to pull up more of the concrete stone blocks that I am moving to make the last of the raised beds in the garden.  I should have exactly the number I need to complete the first two rows.  The top row is slightly different casting and I have plenty of them.  Once I get the blocks moved I will call the paving company and see what it will cost me to remove the old asperagus bed and the remaining herbs in that part and put pavement down.  That will let me pull the PiP up right by the side of the house and make the plugging in for the charging easier and more protected.

I'm hoping tomorrow to get some time in the train rooms.  Need to do a couple loads of wash, so that is a good excuse to work on one of the many projects down there.  I have been cleaning out stuff from the basement and since the trash bin and the recycling bin are both empty at the moment, perhaps I can start filling them both up again...

Catch you all later!
