After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
I nearly missed the opening of the new diner! I went to bed at 9 pm, and slept until 1AM, those who know me, know i NEVER sleep for 4 hours all at once like that! Not even with a "helper med"....
Hmm I must have been exhausted from not sleeping lately... Even though I ahve tried and stayed in be,d the only time I sleep is usually the late morning hours...

As I key this it is still the 31st of July. It's that time zone thing. I got out this afternoon for some very successful railfanning. I did it also 2 weeks ago. First time in 21 years. I am not a fan of the UP...but what the hey...if that's all you have. I've missed it. Finding some nice...and all round safe places to video and take stills. Got an awesome canyon along I80 east of Reno/Sparks to get trains running at 65+. My day today yielded 11 trains and one high rail pick up from 11:45 AM to 5:30 PM and that includes Amtrak #6 going east at about 70.
Well the health has given me something of a break...the sciatica has finally calmed to allow me to sleep. That is a bear of a condition to deal with...I don't miss it. I'll be 54 on Sunday and I'm realizing more and more that aging is not for weenies. I tell people that I'm 54 going on 80...physically, but in the mind I'm still 20 something. How cruel nature can be!
Oh...oh...yeah! One last thing. I'm going over the top as a modeler...at least for me.
I'm taking a shot at building a 2-8-8-? from two Mantua chassis, some copper tube, and a gazzilion detail parts. Multi-year project. I'll be posting stuff as I go. Getting bold these days... well at least as a modeler. LOL!!

Galaxy...I am sooo envious!! Nicholson (Tunkhannock)Viaduct...so awesome! I was there in 1981 and was floored at the size of that bridge. I so miss railroading in PA...it could put tears in my eyes. I was born and grew up in the Reading, PA area and was fortunate to get to many areas of PA that were notable to railroading. I caught a D&H train descending the Ararat grade somewhere south of the Starrucca Viaduct in 1979...an incredible sight. Oh the sight and smell of brake shoe smoke...YES!
Oh...and one more thing. There's a tunnel just a few miles south of the the Nicholson Viaduct (Factoryville Tunnel...IIRC). Take a look if you have the chance.

It OPENED in 1915, 100 years ago! Gee,, I wonder IF Steamtown is planning an innaugural 100th anniversary trip in November?

The Starrucca Viaduct predates the Nicholson by some 50-60 years, another amazing feat {shouldn't be I guesss the romans and greeeks had their own feats of engineering}.

Whew...August 1st! Good granny where is the time going? I cannot believe that we are on the downside of summer already. Time indeed goes far too fast Gents!
Almost ready to prime my Trackside Transfer building as well as my modern(ish) grain elevator. I will post pictures when I get them done. Did some railfanning yesterday and caught a few Norfolk Southern and CSX coal drags and intermodals. Kinda hot standing beside the tracks though. Glad I had water and snacks.

Well, Zoe, the diner looks nice, all freshened up after a month abroad! Always amazes me how you girls get it all spiffed up so quickly... I will have the #2 Special this morning. Over easy on the eggs, a couple sausage links, home fries, and a double order of that wonderful sour dough toast you bake fresh every moening. Oh yes, put on a 20 cup pot of Marrakesh Express Organic Dark Roast for me please.
Currently 74°F here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS this morning under partly skies with a small chance of some sprinkles later today. High will be 78°F this afternoon.
I shall continue to clean out and put away stuff today. I need to get all the odds and ends together and make ready to put in storage all the papers and STUFF from the convention last May. Also have a lot of other items that have just been oput on hold during the rebuild of the living room. Oh! Thank you for your kind words on the results. I am very pleased as what I had envisioned is how the room has turned out. I am now collecting STUFF for my DIL's Yard sale sometime in August. I guess I am up to where I should have been last April....

Today has been a day of a big surprise for me. Shortly after I had posted this morning´s greetings, my friend Lothar called and invited me to a trip into the countryside. We finally ended at Bruchhausen, the terminus of a little museum line celebrating the annual rail fan´s day. Unfortunately, all the trains were sold out, so we could not enjoy a ride down the line, but we were neverless able to observe some nice narrow gauge branchline action, just like in the good old days.
Here are some pictures I was able to take (and thanks to the built-in fuzzy logic, there are not all shaky).

I was on my way home from the York, PA G Scale show with a RR and Musician friend of mine and we decided to drive over on North Front Street to see what we could see just North of Harrisburg. Interesting history to that old bridge. When built it was the longest stone arch bridge in the world. Here is another view:

a nice day out today and was planning on shooting some pucks around but when I got home from work I was just too tired.
actually I have a question for you guys
i shoot pucks off a piece of puckboard ( a hard slipper plastic ) but want to put the puckboard on a piece of plywood but don't know what kind to go with? It would have to withstand rain and snow as it would be left outside. Can anybody suggest what I would want to look for

G'Day, diners. I went out for a bike ride after the weather people gave the all clear and, well, I got wet. I've got to start putting the cell phone in a plastic zip-lock bag no matter what the forecast. I shut it off and slipped it into my Lance Pants so it wouldn't get soaked back there in my jersey, and it survived, but I worried about it. Me? The bike? Who cares? I've been wet before.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

I thought it looked familiar. It really is a beautiful spot (nice pictures btw!). I've railfanned it a few times and generally take a drive by whenever I am over to the Capital. You had great weather as its a little cooler today then its been as of late.

The photo wasn't taken today.... It was done back in 2010 or 2011, not sure which. Yes I really got lucky. Took a while to get a position where I could get the shots without getting run over by a car or truck.

Work Was Busy Today For A Change. While not a great day, no where near as bad as the 15 days? By the 14th of last month I had $16,000.00 in sales and ended with a mear $20,000.00? So only $4000.00 in sales for the last 17 days? Today I had around $2950.00 in sales, so that is more like it but still far short of what the store use to do.

Galaxy - yea I dont get some of the bathroom habits by people in porta potties. I have found empty beer bottles in there ( geez can you imagine drinking a cold one in that place in the heat of August ! ) Some somehow sqaut and get mud every where !! Some miss the hole ( REALLY DISGUSTING ) and then to stupid Graffiti. Why would you stick around in the stink to draw some sub human stupid pictures !!

The engineer, Seth, {he may still be there its been a while since I have been there} to show off his locos there, and I asked him once which he like to operate, the MIKE #3254, or the Pacific #2317. He said the Pacific is a MUCH smoother loco to operate, and the MIKE is rougher. so for passenger ops, he prefers the Pacific. Seth also has a smaller ride on steam train he likes to run during special event like the Labor Day event.
can't get much better than a live steam belching steam loco!

Well, We WERE going to go to the REn Faire, but lets just say everything is running right through both of us....don't know if we picked up something or if it is something we ate. We got a nice loaf of Extra fibros/seeded bread, that may not have been bad,but just not being used to so much fiber, may have done it. I am staying away from it now just in case, and close to the facilities.
I also was chilled all day yesterday and sinuses runnning ,which leads me to believe we have been exposed to something.... I am hte sensitive one, NOT MOH, so for MOH to have the same things with such a strong constitution, probalby means we were exposed.
we will miss the REn Faire, but oh well. Maybe we go later, but at about 2 hours ride with stops, it won't be likely.
