Nice pics, Howmus.  I've driven past that bridge enough times on my way to Gettysburg and DC, but I've always been afraid to stop along the road and take pics.  (I have, however, stopped at a used car lot and shot pics of the west end of Enola Yard -- but not for several years).

I got to take a field trip to see NKP 765 yesterday.  It was a beautiful day for chasing a train, so I did.  I took my old film camera and the digital my wife bought me so I could get different shots (the 35mm has a more flexible lens than the digital). Between juggling cameras and setting up in the wrong spots, I probably blew some shots, but oh well.  I shot a roll of B&W because it was fitting to shoot steam in B&W -- those Staufer books had a big influence on me.

Jerrmy,  You need a sheet of marine plywood.  A good contractor's lumber yard should carry it.  This is the type plywood used for boat floors and should last several years outside.  One source says Ontario Plywood in Hamilton stocks marine plywood.

well, the miracles of technology never cease...

We have a:

Desk top computer,

a laptop computer/built in tablet

Our tablet

MOH's work tablet {which hardly ever works}

And two smart phones...

DO YOU THINK any two of them {except the identical cell phones} WORK ALIKE??

NO!

Even using Google chrome, they don't play well with each other...

GRRR, as a neighbor of ours says: "The ABILITY of {high} tech has far outweighed the NEED for tech..."

MOH was trying to plug in the auto-pay system work is now using...can access it onthe work tablet {that hardly ever works} and now thinks it is on MOH's cell phone...finally we tried to get it on our tablet {a freebie from Verizon} that should tell us something!}

MOH finally has problem MAYBE solved.

GOOD to see TODD in! Glad to hear of the non-recall status, but it begs the Q can they be "tapped", as it were, and controlled remotely too? I don't know why they picked on Chrysler/Jeep, as the first car I saw taken over on news was a chevy!

KEN: sounds good for your sales, have a Beer on us.

YGW: don't knwo what I was gonna say now, must not be inportant...

well, MOH is working on clenaing off the fornt porch, so maybe I'd best go help, though my cramping gut says no activity.. I worked on the shed, MOH can work onthe porch...

Good Evening!

I had a day of rest. As much I enjoyed yesterday´s trip to Bruchhausen, as exhausting it had been. A day of doing nothing but relax sometimes does wonders.

Tomorrow, we will attend the funeral of Petra´s aunt, who died end of May. It´ll be just her son, his GF and us, a quiet ceremony to say good bye to someone we dearly loved. Else was a wonderful person  with a big heart. She was suffering from MS for nearly 40 years. Nature was kind to her to let her close her eyes in peace without too much suffering in the final stage. Her ashes will be buried under a tree in a burial forest.

I won´t be in tomorrow morning (missing PF again), but hope to be able to join you later in the day.

Ulrich:

My mother suffered a life with that dreaded disease! she was diagnosed at age 23, and passed at 59, a week short of her 60th b-day. The years had not been kind, but the last 5 years of her life were dreadfull to her. Several mini-strokes, loss of speach, loss of vision, SHe had, for many years before those last five years, been a  quadruplegic from the disease. I was a mere 13 when her life in a  wheelchair in 1976 began. She too , was fortuante enough to pass in her sleep.

Condolences to Petra, please! (you too)

Ulrich: See the PM I send.

It´s closing in on 9.30pm over here, so I am slowly heading for the hay. It´ll be a hard day tomorrow, standing up for more than 2 minutes is still an issue.

Ulrich:

Hope tomorrow goes smoothly.

Maybe it's time to Try and get yourself a cane with a seat to it...like this:

http://aol.nextag.com/cane-with-a-seat/zzaolcobrandzB1z0--search-html

Folds up for a cane, and expands like it shows....

We have two: one for me obviously, and one for MOH, due to the Paget's diseased hip, MOH sometimes needs a break too...

They certainly come in handy, even with a fat derrier like mine. I can only sit on it for a short time {about 20 minutes} then I need to stand up, but it sure "takes a load off" when I am tired of standing...

best of luck for a great sunny warm beautiful day for the funeral tomorrow. It makes the day seem better, when its a beautiful day for a funeral. My mother's was a pretty warm august day, Mutti's was a nicesunny  fall October day.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Nice Peacfull Day At Work. While this is not good $ wise, I need a break. It was 96 degrees out here and a pretty day. So either it was to hot, or just to nice to go shopping.

Rear Gate While it is far from a work of art I have it 60% bulit. I picked out the best of my twisted Pressure Treated lumber and had at it. One end it is so twisted there is a quater inch gap. I braced end with a small section of 2X4 and will add a couple of metal braces at that end.

YGW I am still in the thinking stage about the fence it self. I see no way around moving the gravel so I can stay in my proptery line. While Dwight (guy next door) said he was fine with me placing fence post on his side on the proptery line. When I asked him how far (I was hoping for a foot) he said "We are friends, but what will the next owner say?". Well he is 89 this year so I sort of understand.

 Later, Ken

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.

Don't have anything exciting to report today.  Yesterday was pretty non-eventful for us.  But, the rest of the city didn't fair as well.  Had severe thunderstorms both North and East of us.  North, they had a tornado in the air, but to my knowledge it never touched down.  The media makes it sound like the sky is falling, nuff said.

Reading a little on the web last night about the battle of Saipan.  Ghastly casualty rate of which many were civilians from a suicide charge.  Seems the defenders told the local populace that the invaders would maim and torture them and the Emperor is reputed to have told everyone to do the suicide charge, or at least hold out to the last person.  In any event, Saipan was a very strategic victory.  It assured the outcome of the Pacific Theatre.

It was a very different world then, steam still ruled the rails!

Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

Can you believe it's August already?!  Summer is so short here.  Blink and it's gone.  Not looking forward to winter, at all!

Gotta get ready for work.

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Organic Heritage Flakes Cereal with skim milk and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug.

I was just about ready to go grocery shopping yesterday when the phone rang.  It was my son inviting me over for Sunday Dinner at his house.  That means I need to get out the door and go shopping this morning so I have some food in the house....

Dark and gray outside here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  The weather prognosticators are predicting a possiblility of moisture falling from the skies today.  We actually could use a bit as the garden is dry....

Will be spending most of the day cleaning, arranging, and maybe even visiting the train rooms....

Catch you all later!

Good Afternoon!

Under other circumstances I would have said it was a beautiful day today. Not a cloud in the sky, maybe a touch too hot already (short of 90F).

We had a brief, but very touching ceremony when we laid Aunt Else to eternal rest in that forest. There is a natural beauty to the place which is beyond words.

I am not a talkative guy today, so please excuse me for leaving already.

CU tomorrow.

Gpod day, eveyone.  It is another beautiful day in north central Canada at the lake.  Blue sky, gentle breeze and 67 degrees.

Uhlrich, condolences for the loss of your wife's Aunt.

Jermey, the weather will probably greatly improve as soon as the holiday weekend is over as it has been really nice here the past three days.

Freinds had us out for a really nice dinner yesterday of roast beef, mashed red potatoes and gravy, peas, and four salads.  The grandkids had a great time having a water baloon fight going through 300 water baloons.  All of this occurred on an island sand beach, the perfect place for a water baloon war.

Have a great day!

Oops - I got that one down the wrong tube Laugh My understanding of the English language seems to be going downhill these days.

Yes, I am short of breath after a little (very little) while. It´s about 40 yards from the car park to our house, but that leaves me huffing and puffing like an astmatic steam loco.

Good afternoon, all.  I decided to take a day off from serious exercise.  I may go for a walk later on.  I've been putting in the miles on the bike the last few days, and it's very hot out again.  The heat is the killer for me.  I'd be on the bike again if it were only cooler.  Right now I'm having a nice bowl of raspberry chip ice cream.

Just did a pill run for my Glyburide, the old man pill for my type 2 diabetes.  Unlike the Metformin, which did not treat me well, this stuff seems OK.  I still have plenty of energy.  Now, I need to go for a beer run.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, a nice cup of Organic Fair Traded Peruvian French Roast Decaf would be nice right now....  Thank you Ma'am!

Taking a break from "Sorting".  I have been removing old issues of MR Mag from notebooks and putting them in carboard boxes to be donated to the R&GV RR Museum.  I found that although I generally do read them when they come in, I have never gone back to look up anything for my model work...  If I do there is always the online stuff now.  The only ones I am keeping are the last year or so and any with articles by Harold Russell.  A bit of sentimentallity due to friendship I guess....

YGW, the dinner was last night....  Need food for the rest of the week.  WhistlingLaugh  Tonight I will be having a dozen Littleneck Clams, a couple ears of fresh local sweet corn (need to get my dose of GMO's and Roundup you know), and a big slice of the Muskmellon I got out at the Mennonite Farm Stand a couple days ago.

It is sprinkling outside at the moment....  I need to get back to sorting and dealing with the stuff lying around the house...  later!

Good Afternoon,

A sunny, windy day here with a pleasant 23C or about 75F I guess.

Not much on the agenda today as we are going out for dinner at friends. We just got back from taking Robbie for his walk which he really enjoys. I also watched a NFB film called 'Railroad Town' that was shot in 1955. It is about Melville, SK and it does give a great view of railroad operations at that time. It is on line and if you want to see it just google National Film Board/ Canada. It is under the Transportation, Railways, category. The host/narrator is Fred Davis who would be very familiar to any fellow Canucks of my age as he hosted a very popular TV show for many years.

Nothing much new on the RR front either. I did put some rust dust on the box cars I assembled a few weeks ago and I have run the new Mikado a bit but nothing else. I will likely turn my attention to the N scale layout come fall as it is at the stage where roads need to be put down, grass 'planted', trees planted, etc. I did buy a new decoder to replace the one I fried in a Kato PA. I am trying a TCS decoder this time and I hope it works better than the NCE in the other PA unit.

A little progress on the bathroom reno front this past week as we did get the vanity height reduced and the countertop templated. I think we might actually have it done by the middle of the month.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Well, the funds to buy a lot {or actually it is claimed as a double lot} or 2.7 plot are secured.

That WON'T mean automatic MRRing space with a few BRs above it, but it will mean we ahve options to put one on it.

We MAY have to Hire YGW to build an 1100 {or under} sqft ranch house for us, but it is probably too small for him to work on.

We could go deeded doublewide, modular, or stick built, but that won't happen until 2017 at most likely.

Now to get the property....

One is .42 acre double lot with a brick garage on it {can anyone say "MRR ING space???"} here:

http://www.realtyusa.com/property/TBD-MAIN-STREET-APALACHIN-NY-13732/BinghamtonNY/195291/

OR this one:

http://www.realtyusa.com/property/2919-OWEGO-ROAD-VESTAL-NY-13850/BinghamtonNY/196213/

so, we have s decision to make, quickly.

I was awaiting the agent's callback, but probably tomorrow....we will see what we can scarf it away for: whichever one we choose.

For now, it will have to do, not quite a house yet, but the remarkable thing is we can get what we'd like in a house...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic Cereal and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee to start the day.

After over 6 hours of sorting yesterday I now can find the top of my dining room table.....  Have dealt with several years worth of MR and NMRA magazines, and a bunch of books and other STUFF that was piled there since the renovation started.  I also cut up and put into recycling a bunch of old boxes I have been saving from electronic equipment I got rid of years ago.... Whistling  More to be done today!

I did not get down the stairs to the layout rooms at all yesterday, but there is slight hope for today.  When I do get back to the layout I will have a couple days of cleaning up and oputting away down there as well.  That is what I get for being a slob!
