CN Charlie ... Great to see you again. I actually asked another Diner if he had your email address so I could track you down, but he did not have it. .... I like the P2K mill gondolas, and I have 3 of them serving my steel mill along with other makes which are not as nicely detailed. Have fun with yours. ... What DCC system are you acquiring? I use MRC wireless and I'm happy with it.
Where is Barry? ... and several others?

Good to see you are back, CNCharlie!
Still quite of few of us "oldtimers" missing. Any idea where Ray is hiding the last few days?
Well, I am calling it quits for the day. I won´t be watching the stars tonight, like Jeff is doing - nothing to be seen other than clouds and ra*n. Autumn has come early this year, it´s quite cold at night. We had to put the heater on.
CU all tomorrow!
Have a good night!
Ulrich out for
Good Afternoon,
Another MIA reporting in or at least I feel like one as it has been some time since my last post. I do stop in most days but I really haven't had anything much to add to the conversation.
Very little RR stuff getting done as I've been busy with yardwork and just being outside. I have a PK2 mill gondola kit on my bench half built and it has been that way for over a month. It is a kit I picked up that was on consignment at my LHS. It has great detail and for $12 it seemed like a bargain compared to $50 for a Rapido car. I have half the grab irons installed so far. Also my DCC system for the HO gave up the ghost so rather than fool around with repair I have ordered a new system. This was a MRC Express unit which I've had for 8 years so I got my moneys worth out of the original $120 cost. Besides the new one has more advanced features. The HO layout will now be dormant for a couple of months until I can get down to Minnesota to pick it up.
Ulrich, I agree that O scale even narrow guage, results in rather large buildings and rolling stock but at least you can scratch build. Perhaps you could revise your current layout and delete the wye as it does eat up a lot of space in your room. If we move to a condo in the next few years as we are considering I will either build a HO shelf switching layout or I might just take the N scale layout that is on a door. I have figured out how to make a packing case for that door and so would only have to add a new base. It all depends on the amount of space I have.
It looks like my wife and I will now be both retired as her job at the Uni has been elimenated. They have 40 days to find her a similar job or they have to pay severance. We are very much hoping for severance and I think it likely she will get it as there really aren't any other full time sessional jobs anymore especially in her field.
Well I think I might just go out into the backyard and join my wife who has now become an avid birdwatcher. Since April we have had 43 species visit our yard which is remarkable for this area. The yard is attractive to birds as we have a lot of trees and a pond with a waterfall which the migrants visit. Oh and the feeders don't hurt either. The other day there were 11 blue jays in the yard. They are very smart birds and start sqwaking as soon as the see my wife come out the door as they know she will put out some peanuts.
Hope everyone who isn't well gets better and hope to see you soon.

Evening Folks!
Just stopping by to enjoy a with you!
I am still having the blues with my layout. Soem of the issues could be solved by moving the layout a couple of inches to the front and adding a board to the back, which woulkd give me sufficient room for the buildings. But that would make the layout even more intrusive and certainly make Petra mad at me, so that idea would mean just trading a small problem with a mighty big one.
Speaking of Petra, I am growing a beard at the moment. When I gave her a kiss, she squealed and giggled like a 16 year old! Ain´t that sweet?
While looking for ideas for another layout, should I part with the On30 one, I came a cross a design I made a few years ago.
With a few changes, this could be it, but how to get this one
without robbing a bank? If I save up the way I am able to do, I might have enough cash to buy it - in 10 years!
Nice to have dreams, as long as they don´t turn into nighmares...

Ulrich reason all the sales should be split is because there is no Up System In Places. Whan Nancy is there, she takes every up (Up is a coustomer) she can. Normally first sale person at the store gets the first customer, 2nd sales person gets the next one. If you have a customer that you stick with for a hour, other person takes the next one when they are done with the one they where with.
This goes on throught out the day. With Nancy being there it throws all of this out of wack. So the customer that bought might have been Kamrons customer if Nancy was not there.
Woking Out While my goal has not been to lose weight, I have lost 4 pounds. When you weigh as much as me, that is like taking a bolt off your car and saying it weighs less now! But every pound I loss the better off I will be!
Time to go to work!

tcwright973Dennis - Saw you posting the other night when you mentioned running around in your convertible. Got me to wondering if you figured out all the gadgets on your new car yet. I
The new car gadgets are more or less sorted out. Took 3 trips back to the dealer for training/re-training but it seems to have taken this time. Well, except for the radio, it still gives me fits but I mostly just leave it on one station and don't worry about it.
The Fire Bird is my go to car in the summer and it being a1994 doesn't have a bunch of stupid electronic stuff. Just a ton of HP. Like you say it's so much fun it should be illegal

Morning all. Off to church, and then off to work at 3ish. Well Friday night had me miss the CNJ leading the reading (but I already have a shot of it, so no big deal. But I did get a real heritage unit that day. Hope everyone is okay today. Thankfully I got my regular hours back at work (they had me down to half of what I normall work due to me requesting a day off last week). Have a good day all.

Good morning.
Tom ... Nice photo. Thanks for psosing it.
Steve ... Nice work on the lantern. I bet it was a fun project.
Dennis B .... Good luck with your move to a new house.
Ulrich ... This 928S is very slowly being restored. The previous owner did not take good care of it and it was a mess when we got it. It is in the garage most of the time now because it needs new brakes. .... The car was a trade. We were selling a camper trailer, and somebody offered to trade even for a Porsche. ... It's a long story, but the trailer was owned by Shelley's sister. Her sister passed away, and Shelley became the owner of the trailer. .... Speaking of BMW's, Shelley drove a 328i about 15 years ago for about 3 years. That's when a State Police officer stopped he for speeding.
Our garage interior project is completed, and the Cinicinnati family left here for their home.
I figured out why my 2-10-2 is not running with its Sountraxx decoder installed. One of several wires connecting the locomotive with its tender is broken. It is broken where it should go into a small connector plug. It will be a chore getting the tiny wire back into the plug.
Also, I received my MRC sound decoder for my E8 back from MRC where it was repaired. I'll be installing it when I can.
Helloho! Anybody here?
6 hours and no post? Maybe it helps to lure people into this place when I say all the food and drinks are on me?
Good Morning!
Summer seems to have gone for good in my neck of the woods. There is more than just a scent of Fall in the air. I must have missed something - I am still waiting for some beautiful Summer days...
Zoe, as it is Sunday, may I have my high-carb, high-fat, high-cholesterol and low-fiber Sunday breakfast, please? Thank you, dear!
Good to see some familiar faces are rejoining us here in the Diner! I was getting worried about Vinnie and the girls having to close down the place due to low patronage.
Ken - I understand that Nancy is the wife of the owner of the place you work in, so it is perfectly OK to split her commission on sales she makes between the paid staff, but I don´t understand , why you have to share your commission with the other staff. I don´t think it is much of an incentive to turn lurkers into buyers that way.
Steve - good job on that lantern! I hope you are not mad at me for firing that shot at you in your layout thread - I just want to prevent you from making the mistakes I made. Look at your plan and check the space you have for buildings! O scale buildings require a footprint about 4 times bigger than HO scale buildings!
Jeff - did you take that shot? Wonderful!
Mark - your employer´s negligence on the lease really sucks! Having to move without getting compensated also sucks! More important, however, is that you are now cancer-free! Congratulation!
PATom - nice railfanning pictures - keep them coming. During my better days, I bought a BMW 3 series convertible for my wife as her shopping chart. It was black, with tan leather upholstery, electric folding roof, cherry wood applications - a real beauty. But she did not like it, so I sold it after a few months. Never drove it with the roof down -
No real plans for the day, maybe I will be doing some more research on layout ideas to have a basis for upcoming decisions.
Make it a great day!

It is and again. That means the stuff I am trying to get rid of will grow faster. I will a little surprised no one commented of the mess my yard is in. Makes me wonder if anyone reads my post?
Work Front We where busy today and Nancy (owners wife) was working the floor. That means all sales are split between I and Kamron no matter who made the sale. So if Nancy gets a deal, Kamron and I split the sale. If Kamron gets a sale, he splits it with me. If I get a sale I split it with Kamron. Get the idea?
Kamron did me a big favor today! I sold another Memory Foam Mattress today with a good spiff. While I was writting the ticket Kamron saw I had his name on it as I should. He reached over and crossed his name off the ticket! Told me later "I don't want $80.00 of your spiff and I stood a around and did not say a word". That was pretty stand up if you ask me!
Paul the GM saw the ticket and asked why Kamron's name was not on the ticket? Again, Kamron told Paul it was my sale and did not want any of the spiff money! (When Paul keyed the ticket he put Kamron's name on it). Paul said we did not do it that way when Nancy was on the sales floor. Later when Paul was out of ear shoot Kamorn said he would change the ticket Wednesday on the computer when Paul was not around!
Train Stuff for the family that house burnt down. Thursday I meet a family that rental house burnt down and they did not have renters insurances. There son lost all his toys but for 2 hot wheel cars. He is all so a Thomas The Train fan. Told the parnets I had some train stuff I don't need and call Saturday or Sunday to see if I remembered to bring it to work. I Did remember to take the Train set to work with me but never heard from them. Hope to hear from them Sunday. More than likely they think I was full of stuff and thought I was just trying to act like a good guy so they would buy from me. I don't work that way!
Worked out again tonight. Over all I was pretty happy with it.
See you all Sunday!
Howdy folks, and good Saturday evening.
Well, I put up my latest iteration of my mining layout and got some really excellent feedback (of course I always do here). So... now my minds all racing about what I learned. And... it's heading back to Anyrail for me.
I did get to finish an unrelated project of mine finally. It's a Coleman Model 242C lantern that was so filthy you could not even tell what color it was. It was manufactured in 1947. I think it turned out rather nice. Now just gotta find room for it in the future trainroom.
Have a good evening all, it's raining and thundering here in Winfield Mo.

Life is tough, but it's tougher if your'e stupid.
Nothing much going on here. I spent a few minutes outside getting sighted in and got a decent shot on the third attempt. That was great as by that time I could no longer stand. I need to get me a good chair.Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrowSaturn was sighted at RA:14 h, 44 m, 42 s, DEC: -13°, 36' 31".
Looks like I might be able to get a few good shots tonight. Whatever I get it should be colorful. Getting the moon shot last night was difficult to put it mildly. Getting all the optics to line up right is tricky. Tonight may be cloudy so don't expect much.
Hello everyone...wish I could say good...something.
Got bad news yesterday. What I had been expecting with my employer has happened...just much sooner.
They blew it with the lease on the building they had been in for the last 15 years...and are being evicted...ha ha...go figure. But they have a new facility in mind in a northern suburb of Reno. Although this affects all employees, about 1/2 the employees in the building (about 400) who don't live in or around Reno...like myself, will have to either quit, relocate, or commute. So far there is no relocation compensation being offered...so those expenses would be out of pocket. Nice...how great it is to have not gotten a pay raise in almost 8 years to be able to save...for just such an occasion. Homes are not selling here and unemployement is still over 12% this means simply...abandoning the home I worked to have for the past 17 years and moving to north Reno (the DMZ) or commuting 150 miles a day with no alternate means of transportation...personal vehicle, that's it. Or as a 53 y.o. semi disabled person seeking a new job in a state that does not enforce safety, labor law, or discrimination law. I consider Nevada a third world nation inside the US. I understand more than ever why my $73billion employer liked setting up shop in NV.
Just don't call me cousin Eddie (from Vacation)
Well...I am now cancer free for 4 years+ (unenthusiastic...yay)
So does this mean I can live cancer free in my own little refrigerator crate in Stead, NV and pay them for the priviledge of working for them.
I think when they start flying those customer delivery drones next year...I'll declare open season on them. Got to make sure it's just the drones with the smiling arrow logo on them.
Enough griping I guess and I'll go back to decalling my Reading GP40-2.

It was another beautiful day here in the "Burgh". Perfect for doing a little railfanning, which we did for 3 hours this morning. We caught 11 trains. 5 mixed freight, 2 intermodals, 2 denatured alcohol, 1 stone train, and 1 unit train of 76 gondolas. The gondolas probably were steel slabs being sent to another mill for processing. There seemed to be a lot of foreign power running thru here today. We saw 6 Union Pacific, 1 BNSF & 1 CEFX lease unit, which was an AC4400CW. Starting to see a lot more covered hoppers as well. I'm guessing here that the harvest season is upon us, but I really don't know. We also saw about 8 or 10 flat cars with John Deere tractors in Transit. Unfortunately, we saw that on the way, so there wasn't an opportunity to get any photos.
Got a couple of small chores done this afternoon, but nothing significant. Dinner was kind of a picnic style thing. Hot dogs, baked beans & home made potato salad. Not fancy, but I enjoyed it.
We will probably go back out to the tracks tomorrow morning. Won't be long I suppose before the weather changes & we will be stuck sitting in the car watching big diesels roar by.
Dennis - Saw you posting the other night when you mentioned running around in your convertible. Got me to wondering if you figured out all the gadgets on your new car yet. I had a convertible when I was around 20 or so. There isn't a day goes by that I don't wish I still had it. It was a 1954 Pontiac Starchief Catalina, baby blue with a black top. She was a wonder to behold. I had so much fun in that car, it should have been ruled illegal.
Let you know how things go tomorrow.

Good Afternoon!
Just back from a short visit to my train friend´s place. We discussed the issues I have with my layout and came up with some ideas how to cure some of the problems I have with it.
Space for buildings - if I move the layout about 4" from the wall, I could add a board, giving me much more room for buildings of the proper size. Good idea, but that would add to the problems I have with the leg of the "T".
Re-ballast the track. Removing the old ballast is a tedious job, but can be done. The ballast I used is designated for O standard gauge main lines and seems to be too course for O scale narrow gauge track. Excellent idea. This will certainly help to improve the looks of the track, but does not solve the operation issues I have with it. The Peco turnouts are not as reliable as I expected them to be and have the wrong tie spacimg and arrangement. There is also no room to install the switchstands i wanted to have (Caboose Industries HO high level switchstands).
I have decided not to decide and let the case rest for a while. I may do something different in the meantime - like getting my HOn3 D&RGW T-12 4-6-0 back into a working condition and maybe build a small diorama for her.
Jeff - the damage to the road reminds me of what I have seen a tank can do when making a 180 degree turn on the spot on a hot summer day.
Todd - you are talented, Sir. You should collect all your "Todd & Brenda" stories in a scrapbook, for future publication! I just love to read them, and was missing them lately.
Garry - the Porsche 928 looks nice. When it was introduced it received a lot of criticism for not being a "real" Porsche", being not as brutish as the old 911 and having come out of a cooperation between Audi and Porsche. I have driven one years back and found it to be much better riding than the 911.
Have an enjoyable weekend!
Howdy ,
Been busy as of late..........had to pack away all of the model building stuff.........and disasemble the layout.
Because I`m suppose to close on a house on Friday the 22nd.
And the new place has a finished basement.........already planing a new 3 deck shelf type layout.

Good morning. It's 81° with 85% humidity. The high will be 95°, cloudy with a small chance of rain. with No plans for today. Still in a puzzle concerning the road damage yesterday. The more I look at it the more I think it was done by a very heavy truck trailer being turned there.
Heartland Division CB&QTodd .... Perhpas there should be a TV series called "Todd and Brenda" ... sort of like an updated Ozzie and Harriet.
That's an idea, but unfortunately it would be rated "G" and would probably never make it passed the pilot episode.

Jeff,
Looks to me that a heavily loaded single axle tractor trailer turned around there. That's one reason why you may see signs that prohibit truck turn arounds in paved parking lots.....that's the end result.
That would be my guess.

Nothing much going on this evening. It's 80°, partly cloudy, 73% humidity. Here's a shot of the moon. Don't ask. I got real lucky.Little else worked right today. The Magicjack is up and running. I can make and take calls with no problem.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I live about 100 miles straight north of Calgary Alberta. That would be Calgary of the Calgary Stampede fame. Going there tomorrow as a matter of fact. Got my new Magicjack this morning and I already have it connected and configured. The service is paid up until Feb 2nd, 2016. Also paid my bill for 911 service. We got that here too. The Magicjack is for some reason considered a mobile device.
