well

I nearly had a heart attack! We got the electroni advanced cell phone bill at $255!!! It should be a big fat ZERO. FIrst, the very first bill {this is actually the second bill, the first we had to pay for the activation of the tablet} would be the highest they said! Got that, but we Have Beaucoup bucks credit.

BUT, they did NOT take our credit from our pre-paid cells overages due to us..so this months bill is now "free" and so is next months! Then Sept bill should be under $75 and Oct will be the regular bill owed.

Good thing the tablet is only $10/month and was FREE from Verizon as I have foudn it to be about useless, while away I used friend's laptop and it is so much better! We may invest in a laptop form dell. Bit no rihgt now. I have placed a moratorium on spending again!

I called customer no-service and got a lady who said the credit was not applied to the bill! I KNOW that already! tell me something I don't know! Like how this bill becomes ZERO! She supposedly fixed it to a zero balance.

Also found out the work discount MOH gets is NOT on the bill but only a part of a portion of a segment of the bill!

Boy everybody wants your money but not so quick to issue you credits due! Heaven forbid THEY owe YOU money! I still think the bill is to high at what it is supposed to be.

Speaking of THEM owing YOU money...when I was borned a college couple's son {take of on coalminers daughter by Tammy winet {?}} My father paid the upo front amount they requested for my delivery at the hospital. He paid Lets just say $500 in advance. Then the bill came in teh mail showing the total charges were $475, and showed an amount of $25 he OWED to the hospital. He went and compalined that THEY owed HIM the $25! They said "well, when there is a discrepancy in the bill , the patient ALWAYS OWES US so we billed you for the $25 difference!"  WRONG!

So no, be still my beating heart, as they applied the credit to our cell bill. i am NOT budgeted for it anyway!

well, off for awhile:

Good evening Chloe, a hot chocolate please.
Went to Alans funeral today, was a great celebration of his life. while there were tears, they were far outweighed by laughter, he would have approved.
MisterBeasley
I'm still struggling with this Metformin stuff.
I agree with Ray and Galaxyas regards to seeing your doctor. I’ve been using “moderate” dosage of Metformin now for three years, and haven’t had any side effects, and still enjoy a glass or two on a semi regular basis. Alcohol actually lowers the blood sugar levels, which was something my doctor didn’t tell me, but of course is jam packed with “bad” carbohydrates, which he did tell me when I questioned him on the subject, so moderation is the key.Sigh
A belated  Happy B-Dayto Jeffery.

Me again!

I just have to let some steam off!

Despite the downpour, I went out to get the glue I need. The one I used for the engine house (which worked very well) has now a new and improved formula and hiked 70% in price. No way I´ll be paying $ 4 for a blob of glue! Not only the formula is new, but the bottle now contains 50% less!

I found an alternative at half the price - let´s see how that will work!

Edit: The price I have to pay for ranting is that I now got TOPS! Flo, here is my CC, charge everything the gang will be having today on it!

Good Morning!

Another gray and ra*ny day here, but it hasn´t cooled down much.

My Internet connection was down for quite some time this morning, so I made use of the time to review the drawings for my next building project. As I will be using .8mm plywood for the planking, I can simplify the interior framing, which will considerably speed up the construction. The inside won´t be seen, and the simplified framework is strong enough.

I may also rename the layout. Keg Harbor is already take by a group of Canadian model railroaders, so I may go for Boothbay. Now this is a real location, which was served by the Wiscasset RR, IIRC, but at the moment I kind of fancy the name Boothbay & Quonsett RR - the BBQ line Whistling. This may change when the BBQ season is over...

Ken - I see you have traded Beer for proteine drinks. Petra tells me that they are no good. She´s a nutritionist by education. Better to get your proteines through a well balanced diet and quench your thirst with a mix of apple juice and soda, which has the same isotonic character as those expensive drinks.

Well, I have to run to get some glue. Isn´t it amazing how much glue you need? Glue is quite expensive here - Sigh

Have a great day!

 Evening Dinners!

Flo, Beer and a Proten Shake please.

Work Front Sigh Our premit for extra signs was up today. It did help a lot, best bussines I have seen at the Fairview Heights store while I have worked there!

Working Out Still very pleased with the progress! Big Smile Tonight I either incresed weight or reps in all movements! In arm curles I incresed both Weight and Reps! Yes It is great (well in my eyes) to see the veins bulge in my arms while I am lifting.  Hope to have the weight bench repaired Tuesday so I can add bench pressing to the work out!

Remember Free Train Stuff! Will try to get some pictures up Tuesday. Someone here said they like some 18" turns! Whistling I bet I have around 55 of them, wounder if they would like all of them? Laugh At this point I have turely forgot what all is under the train layout.

Tuesday I am off and they are calling for thunder storms. If we get them here, I am spending the time in the garage and getting rid of the mess that has collected. (If you folks saw how clean I use to keep it vs how it is now you be stunned) But with not knowing from one month to another where you are going to life it is easy to stop caring!

Health Front For now you folks can save your Angel I am feeling normal again.

 Later, Ken

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a piece of Jeffrey's birthday cake and a cup of decaf right now...

Been, as usual, a busy day here in the Finger Lakes.  Got home about 2PM from providing transpoertation for my Grsnddaughter to my Sister's house for Summer Art Lessons today.  I drop off Livy and then headed down to a bank in Canadaigua to drop off a check for deposit in  our MLK Scholarship Fund account.  Then came back to my sister's house.  Plugged in the car while I was there and found the outside power was off.  So I went inn the house and got, "The Look" from my sister.  I told her I needed to turn on the outside electric.  She thought for a second and then said, "Oh! OK..." with a look saying then you will leave my house while I am teaching...  So, I did just that.  I had taken an MR magazine along to occupy my time while I waited for Livy anyway.

Livy and I were the last people to leave at the end of the "Lesson".  Everything I said to my sister she took offence at...  Tried to give her a compliment about something and she interupted me half way throw my sentence to get mad at me.  I decided to stay very quiet...  Livy had a great time and when I got her to her house she went right to her grandma and showed her everything she did...  This evening I got a call from my sister thanking me for providing Livy transportation to the Lesson and appologizing for being a *******  (one of those words we can't say outloud).  Seems she didn't sleep at all last night and by the time class was over she was completely frazzled and out of energy.  I figured that was what was going on so I was very forgiving over the phone...

I did some grocery shopping, weeded most of the rest of the raised bed gardens, made a nice casserole for dinner, and sent several emails to folks about some problems with the sound system at camp.  Got a reply back that the speakers are indeed under warantee (5 years) and a tentative price on buying another pair of the same speakers to add to the system.

Jim...  W*rk?  wait 'till you see how busy retirement is!

I am tired, so I think I shall clean the cat's litter box, fill the tank on the CPAP with distilled water, take my evening meds and head to bed.  See you in the morning and prayers will be going out for all of you that are in need of them!

there's an Apple II conference (www.kansasfest.org) that is held in July in the KC (Missouri) area, and this year, among the topics they'll have is one on upgrading the speed of an Apple IIc+.

I'll probably never make it to one of those. I don't travel well.

JimRCGMO
any special (Cherokee or other) plans for the day?

Me and Harry Raintree are going on a vision quest tonight. Should be fun. Nice thing is we'll never leave his spare room.

Good Evening, Zoe - may I have a slice of Jeffrey's Happy B-DayCake with a  D&RGW  mug of coffee, please? Thank you kindly!

Jeffrey, may the rest of your birthday improve greatly over your morning. Yeah Over the weekend, my back was giving me a small fit. (I have a little Weber grill - think about 2 feet in diameter, apartment sized - and was grilling on it on the 4th of July (4 chicken br**sts), but probably shouldn't have been leaning forward to watch it and turn the pieces over every so often. My back's about back to normal tonight, so I hope your back is on the mend, as well. I'm with CB&Q Garry's question - any special (Cherokee or other) plans for the day? Getting treated to dinner out (or pizza in)? Smile, Wink & Grin By the way, Jeffrey, I like the photos of your earlier layout that you posted this morning. Thumbs Up Have you been fiddlin' with your Apple II/IIe's any lately? Ah, I see you have a IIc to add to your Apple collection! Bow I thought of you earlier this month - there's an Apple II conference (www.kansasfest.org) that is held in July in the KC (Missouri) area, and this year, among the topics they'll have is one on upgrading the speed of an Apple IIc+. A guy named James Littlejohn is presenting that one, I believe. (Except for my having to be at the office, and registration pretty much closed in a few days, I might go; I went last year and it was pretty good - and the food was really good for a college campus! They hold it at Rockhurst College (or University, forgot which).)

Jeremy, good to hear you have a new job (it is a good job, right?). What'll the w**k be like for you there?

Ken, will add you (and Galaxy) to my Angel list (which I have to admit I've not been getting to as much as I'd like in the mornings - but I have decided it may be simpler for me to cover the list in the evenings, when I have fewer time demands/schedule to meet). You guys do what your doctors tell you as far as your medication or lifestyle changes, eating habits, etc., okay?

And Johnboy, good to see you've been in here (waaayyy more often than me...Sigh). Been doing what your doctor's been telling you to do, I hope?

This week in Cape G.-land, we could use some of Johnboy's or CN Charlie's weather SOTB. Last week was pretty good - even July 4th it was pretty tolerable - humidity was down some, and it only got into the lower 80's. Today, however...Whistling humidity was up, and we were supposed to reach lower 90's (F)

And at my w**kplace...Whistling we have gone to all-digital records as of July 1st. We had until today to get all our "old-style" paperw**k turned in (and I just made it!)Huh? Now, I just have 3 days from last week, plus today's stuff, to be entered into the digital thingee. Except, while I was churning out the remaining documents in printed form, one of my co-w**kers was trying to get her stuff entered into the system, and the system kicked her laptop out. But wait! There's more! Whistling The internet also died on her...Grumpy She called our IT alpha geek, and he said that our internet provider (beloved Charter...) was the problem (and we log into the digital system by a VPN network via the internet Oops So about 5-ish, local time, most of us (except our immediate supervisor) headed out for the night. IT dept. had sent out an email this a.m. saying that the system would be offline tonight for maintenance & updates. Hmmm....

Don't you Diners who are retired just miss all this fun of w**k after reading about all that "fun" stuff? Bang Head Yeah, right!

So that's one part of why my MRR'ing has stalled out.Oops

I think I may have a glass of wine to go with my slice of Jeffrey's (54th) Happy B-Day cake...

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.-land (who's been gone way too long because of that silly thing called w**k...)

(Boy, would it be nice to be able to retire...)

The speaker no longer works. Corroded probably. I can replace it provided I can find a suitable replacement. It's just about an inch and a half across.

My father gave me a check for $55. That'll come in handy. So far that's it. Harry and I will be on a vision quest tonight. I'm looking forward to that.

well, just ahead of a major storm to blow through, I got my "ride" back. I can tell the bumper cover is a slightly different color,b ut maybe no one wil?

It is NICE to step ion the gas and have it GO! though the brakes seem a little mushy as the Jeep had touchy brakes. The brakes on mine are fine, just had them done, still paying for them until next month.

I DO hope Jeffrey's b-day got better as the day went along!

Now that I got my ride back, I cna sleep.

The following is just too good not to be shared!

"Those of you who have even a slight mechanic’s mind will love this. You don’t have to be an engineer to appreciate this story ..... A toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped empty boxes without the tube of toothpaste inside. This challenged their perceived quality with the buyers and distributors. Understanding how important the relationship with them was, the CEO of the company assembled all of his top people. They decided to hire an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem. The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP, and third-parties selected. Six months (and $5 million) later they had a fantastic solutution - on time, on budget, and high quality. Everyone in the project was pleased. They solved the problem by using a high-tech precision scale that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box weighed less than it should. The line would stop, someone would walk over, remove the defective box, and then press another button to re-start the line. As a result of the new package monitoring process, no empty boxes were being shipped out of the factory. With no more customer complaints, the CEO felt the $5 million was well spent. At the end of the first month, he reviewed the line statistics report and discovered the number of empty boxes picked up by the scale in the first week was consistent with projections, however, the next three weeks were zero! The estimated rate should have been at least a dozen boxes a day. He had the engineers check the equipment and they verified the report as accurate. Puzzled, the CEO travelled down to the factory, viewed the part of the line where the precision scale was installed, and observed that just ahead of the new $5 million pound solution sat a $20 desk fanblowing the empty boxes off the belt and into a waste container. He asked the line supervisor what that was about. "Oh, that," the supervisor replied, "Bert, the bloke from maintenance put it there because he was tired of walking over, removing the box and re-starting the line every time the bloody bell rang.”

And that's why there are plenty of jobs for us very old guys.

Johnboy: thank you for putting me on the list. I did my errands so i took another muscle relaxer adn expect I'll be in bed in an hour. MOH has said "I don't like the way it knocks youout",,when awakenign me at 6 am to "see if you were still alvie" not knowing I was up, did my mronign greetings here, then went backt o bed.

AS for getting "my ride" back today, nah the earliest would be tomorrow, and that is doubtful. I'll know soon enough. SInce it WAS SF's {his insurance} adjusters'fault to list the worng part, they HAD better pay for al the rental days I have had hte vehicle Includiing the "overage" on it for these additional days! Although, I can blame 1/2 of it on the body shop, what body shop DOESN'T Check the part numbers themselves before they order???? I mean DUH!

Hope Jeffrey's Birthday is Getting better!

Whistling

Morning All,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Spray Can Rembrandt, remember JEFF that 54 is only half way there.

GARRY,

You can have my piece of cake as well, not that I wouldn't like it, but it still won't go down.

ULRICH, I love you engine house, it looks just right.  I was thinking that if it is located in a rather remote area whhere there was no services or if it is that old anyway, that they probably would have had a half round gutter with the rain being caught in a barrel/tank of some sort. There is always a need for water around a shop.   JUst thinking.........

Galaxy and Ken,   My turn to put you on the prayer list.. Good luck with those medical issues.

Galaxy and Dennis, I hope you both get your rides back today.

Hi ROB, whereever you are.  Has the live in moved in yet ????

Hope you all had a great week-end and are now back in the saddle for the dog days of summer.

Johnboy out......................for now.

You're a great asset to the Diner. Are there any Cherokee traditons for celebrating birthdays we should follow?

Storytelling and sharing visions are two traditions that've survived. Tonight me and my friend Harry Raintree will engage in a vision quest if for no other reason than to have fun. For each person the quest is different as it's influenced by that persons own thoughts at the time and by the nature of the questions they are seeking answers to. This is NOT something I recommend doing while driving or operating heavy machinery.

Good Morning,

Happy Birthday Jeff!! Hope your day is a good one.

We had a nice weekend even though it was very hot on Saturday as in a humidex of 40C. In spite of that we went out for dinner and sat on a patio at one of our favourite restaurants. We were celebrating our 32nd anniversary which was actually on the 3rd. Had a great meal, escargot, steak diane and a lemon tart for dessert.

Jeremy, I forgot to comment on your workbench as it is far too neat and tidy. It doesn't look used at all.

Dave(hon30critter) I read your post about your Dad with great interest as my father was the Bomb Aimer in a Halifax plus he was trained as a navigator too and often help the navigator. I have his log book and while there isn't much detail of the missions, it is interesting in that the missions were often 6 or 7 hours. He was in the 77th Squadron at Full Sutton in Yorkshire. Their plane was shot up a couple of times, once by a JU88 and also by a ME110 but they made it back to England but not to Yorkshire.

I was looking at our TV channel selection the other day in search of something to watch and saw that we get channels from the area of a few fellow diners. We get the Rochester Fox channel and also WBZ from Boston plus a channel from Atlanta.

Well soon the grass will be dry enough so that I can mow this morning. It is getting harder to start the 30 year old gas mower I use on the front lawn as now I have to pour gas into the carb otherwise I will be pulling in vain.

No RR stuff in the last week but I may do some work on my work train this afternoon if it rains as forecast. I need to put CN decals on the work caboose. I got it for Christmas in 1959. I also want to make up a rail load for a flat car.

MisterBeasley
I hate the idea that I have to give up living, one pleasure at a time.

Welcome to my world as well!

It´s already been quite a while, since my doc told me that a man´s vices are girls, smoking, drinking and singing. He told me to forget about the first three, but I may sing as much as I want to. While this could please Ray, I am not so much for singing, as I lost my voice after my first heart attack. I used to sing in a mixed choir. We did everything from classic to gospel. I had a dark, strong voice which could be heard quite well. My favorite was "Va pensiero" . Ah, tempi passati!

I do sneak in an occasional glass of red wine and don´t feel bad about it. My beer intake is close to nil, nada, rien, zilch, finito, basta. Not that´s it verboten, but I don´t enjoy it - very unusual for a German.

I am not feeling well today, so no MRRing activity. I am struggling to keep my eyes open.

well

Jeffrey: I know for a fact that your day WILL get BRIGHTER! SO chin up, curl the edges of those lips up and smile!

I am Sure of it, its bound to,  I think!

It IS your Birthin' day after all! Cake Gift

Birthin' days are always great!

And as far as that sound system...$30??? really? I coulda bought you a new one for a mere $15-20! Or does that cassette player have a radio too?

Happy B-Day

Sending you  a message shortly.

KEN: I sent you a PM Message!

Mr. B: a LOT of meds say "no alcohol", and many more say "No Grapefruit/juice/products" as well! You could probably have one, maybe two beers ok a week, but don't forget it can interfere with the absorbtion of the med or {maybe} throw your system off! In other cases, alcohol with the meds can make you "more drunker quicker"as it enhances the side effects of the meds, so to speak. But you have to ask your self, what do I really want? a nice life to continue of just a lousy couple of beers?

I used to be a drinking man {a gallon and a half of vodka every day and was "functional"} but now it is not so important to me. With all my meds, I have to be carefull, too.  Its all a matter of perspective! If i were to drink on this stupid med the Dr. gave me now, I'd be asleep forever! giving up the drink is hard, but nto so hard...quiting smoking was my monkey on my back, but nigh on 9 years now, I don't miss it!

Like RAY said, Talk to your doctor!

Now wouldn't it be a GREAT Birthing day present for Jeffrey if we could get him a newer van or pick-em-up truck or a new motor  that will START when asked to? I have some pledges lined up, can we do more? If you are interested in helping, send me a PM about it! i firmly believe in paying it forward adn helpingout thsoe in need, whether it be donation of money, time or energy of substance {an item{s}}.

Make today a GREAT DAY!

I htink the med has worn off sufficiently for me to go to the bank and Credit union.

Mornin'!

Zoe, coffee to go...  Huh?  Yes my dark raost would be great with some cream ande a pack of stevia..  Thanks!

I am on my way out the door to go to the Pharmacy for my Janumet Rx.  Took the last pill last night and missed one dose over the weekend.  Then I will be heading to Canandaigua with Granddaughter #1...  I have a couple errands I can run while she goes to Art lesson today.

Mr. B, check with your doctor...  Mine says it is alright to have a glass of beer or a glass of wine occasionally.  The no-no is to sit there and drink a 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine or several mixed drinks.  As a diabetic alcohol should be only an occasional treat anyway.  Talk to your Doc!

Gotta get going!  Later!

It explains why I've felt like crap since I started taking it, but I hate the idea that I have to give up living, one pleasure at a time.
