Foo.  I'm still struggling with this Metformin stuff.  I looked carefully at the bottle, and it says not to drink alcohol while taking it.  This is a freakin' "maintenance" medication!  I could be taking it forever.  And I'm not supposed to have a few beers?  And why didn't the doctor tell me this?  Man, that's depressing.  It explains why I've felt like crap since I started taking it, but I hate the idea that I have to give up living, one pleasure at a time.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning. It's 77° with 97% humidity. Cloudy with a high of 92°.

Not feeling too great this morning. My back feels like somebody's been jumping on it. Maybe working on the van was a bad idea.

At 12:07 this morning I officially became another year older. 12:07am 7/7/60.

I hope rest of the day goes a lot better than it has started.

... Happy Bear Day to you, Happy Bear Day to You, Happy Bear Day, dear Jeff, Happy Bear Day to You! Music

Good Morning!

I had hoped to be the first one to congratulate Jeff, but you guys beat me by hours! Smile

Ken - I will add a tool cabinet, a workbench and some tools at a later stage. The poster with the smart looking girl came from a picture published in the "Yes! More Signs" thread here in the forum.

No real plans for the day. At 7am, we already have temps of 26°C with a humidity of 90% - not my weather! I can stand high temperatures fairly well when it is dry, but the humidity really gets me.

Well, I must be getting ready for my Monday morning HD list! It´s a short one, but I better huryy - just to keep MOH happy!

Have a splendid day!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be great right now...  What?  Yes, half and half and stevia along with it.

I have been highly involved getting my next week planned with several must do items on the list.  Tomorrow I get to drive Granddaughter #1 to Canandaigua to my sister's hgouse for summer Art Lessons.  My sister has been doing this for many years and having Livy come to this week's sessions was her Birthday gift.  She should have fun (both of them will I think!).  Also am now officially out of my Diatybetes pills, took the lasy one tonight, so first thing tomorrow morning I need to get them refilled.  Then I pick up Granddaughter and head to Canandaigua.

We had a huge crowd at the Museum today.  Close to 250 visiters riding the train.  I was also training a couple of guys who will become Car Hosts (Trainmen).  We had folks from Canada and as far away as South Carolina there today.  Several former RR employees also.  Somehow I always feel a touch insecure talking about train facts with people who sure know a whole lot more than I do.  I guess the clips on the Rochester Morning Show worked well for the museum.

Oh, I hear sombody has a birthday tomorrow....  What the hey?  Lets get an early start....   Mi, mi, mi....  Ahem...  All together now!

Was that A firework going off?  Somebody set off an M-80???  Oh, just Jeffrey starting his Van.....  Thought for a second somebody put a torpedo on the track....

Prayers for all in need!

Played some games, watched a little TV (no movies today), had some watermelon with the family. I ate almost two-thirds of it! Hey, I was hungry. Worked on my van a bit until my back started screaming stop. One of those jobs was to tie up the right side tailpipe. I wanted to do it yesterday but life got in the way. Today I enlisted the help of my next door neighbor. He's a fire fighter with Sundown VFD as I was. He held up the pipe while I tied it up in place. The hanger broke months ago and the pipe had just been hanging and swaying around. That was the easy part. The hard part was getting up and for that I had to have help. Tomorrow I'll be fifty-four. I already feel like ninety.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

well,

I have successfully slept away most of the day. Tomorrow I put in a call to the Dr. as I cna't have this. Usually I dont sleep away on meds, and I HAVE had this one before adn don't remember sleeping on it, so. we will see what he says.

Hopefully Tuesday I get Ezmerelda { my 06 Kia sedona} back. It will be a releif to get back my OWN haunt!

Ken: i'd say I'd take anyhting you have that might be B&O,C&O, CHessie or CSX, PRR but doubt you have any? I don't think that is your livery scheme. Actually last year yo siad you were tering down the layout,  apparently you didn't have the heart after all??

lemme see: MOH had a long day out with a client, but helps the paycheck, was needed for the hours.

Speaking of my OTHER half, next wekend {the 12th} is our Anniversary!! For 14 years we have put up with each other, 12 of them legally and 2 of them we renewed our stupidity! Seriously, it took me 36 years to find "the one" and I ain't letting go so fast! So we will celebrate by going out to eat I think. Then hte fun times begin for another year!

Well, I suppose, if I cna get to sleep now, I should be turing in shortly, and I am NOT taking a pill as I don't want to be groggy in the early A of M!

Have  Great Night!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer and Proten Skake.

Work Front Not a great Sunday, bet better than most. I think we hit around $2600.00 is sales and Dave and I made a little extra. Guessing around $50.00 each. Nancy (owners wife) was there and took most of the customers.

Health Front When I first got to work my lower right side was still hurting some what. Not awfull pain, just suffecent to remind me it was there. I was schdual to work into St Charles Monday, with me feeling a little poor I called and got changed to the Fairview Heights store Monday.

Work Out Felt better by the time I got home and did get a Good work out in. Found I did not just take the up rights off the weight bench, I really did a Hack Job taking it off! Going to take a while to get the up rights on right!

Free Train Stuff! Well one of the benafits of me working out is I am trying to get rid of the junk in the Garage. Sue had been hording boxes for when we have to move. With BoS being held at bay for now and clearing out boxes so I have room to work out, I have stumbled across of lot's of Train Leavens. I hate to guess how much I have spent over the years, going to guess $7000.00! Have way more stuff than I will ever care to fix. Plus I am going to tear down the current layout so I can get my 68 Road Runner back into the Garage.

So if you want some free HO Stuff Let me know! It will be mainly Bachmann, Life like and Tyco Rollin stock but there may be some engines. I do have around 15 Life Like Pancake Motor Engines I sure don't want!

All I am asking for is the cost of shipping and some help with the bubble wrap. Let me know here at the dinner that you want some and PM me so we can work out the details.

Garry While it is not my Dream Grill I am pretty Tickled With It! Dinner Best thing to me is it does not use Lava Rock and has V shape burner covers!

Mr B I uses two sauces. First is from a local Resturant called Andria's that I can buy in the local Shop and Save. It is good on Chicken, Beef, Pork and Fish! I will not BBQ with out it! Then I use Sweat Baby Ray's as the finaly sause.  If you want to try the Andria's Sauces and cannot find it locally, let me know! It makes cheap Meat Taste Great!

Ulrich Love the old time Pin Up Picture in the engine house! Are you going to do any work benches and such?

See you all Monday, Ken

Hi Guys

A nice day today. Watch the British GP before cutting grass ( two lawns ) came back home and watched highlights of wimbledon and the tour de france. I cant belive wimbledon is done for another year. I added my warehosue to the layout yesterday. Still plan on adding another and paved roads. These were suppose to be fall and winter projects but they turned into now as I had the kit building bug. Just going to kick back and watch some Nascar and IRL highlights.

I will be going to the IRL race in Toronto in a couple weeks for all three days, its usually hot and humid and thousands of other race fans. Its a fun time except contsruction in Toronto is brutal this year ( worse then most ) so getting in and out of the city is going to be misearble, heck its miserable on a good day.

Ulrich,

Yeah the heck with gutters for water management for the Enginehouse...think about some sort of sump pump for the pit. May have some water in it after the downpour. Big Smile

Take Care!

Calling it a day now! I hope I get some sleep before the predicted thunderboomers are moving in on us.

I will do some more research on the gutters and downpipes, although I am inclined to leave it as it is.

Have a good night!

Ulrich:

It looks fantastic! I would not use gutters, as I am ntot sure they would have had them unless there is/was a need for water runoff control not mucking up the yards or rails. Trudging through muck on the way to wrok would be no fun.

You DID ask, and if you DO add they, I would think 1/2 round gutters {copper} to be the ones.

If you have thoroughly exhausted pics online, did you notice any having the built-in gutters made of wood as I sent a pic of? They may have well done that so it may not look like they have gutters. They wouldn't show much.

Steam town has gutters, I do believe, but as a  modern water-management system. Strasburg RR has 1/2 round gutters o n the station, but don't know about the engine house! There again, may have it as a modern water management system.

I would leave as is, unless it bothers you. Then add 1/2 round guters if it bothers you!.

well I have again sucessfullly slept awaythe day, I have to call the doctor tomroow and say I can't take this stuff to get anyrthing done! also not much if any in the way of pain relief.

That's a great looking engine house Ulrich.

*

Not much going on here today. I've played a game of Star Fleet 1, rebuilt a disk drive and watched a bit  of TV. Around 3pm I'll be going to my fathers place for some watermelon, always good on a summer day. I took some time this morning to make a short video of my vans first start of the day. That rest of the day it'll start without starting fluid providing it hasn't vapor locked.

Good Evening!

No thunderboomers - yet! The weather has been quite unpleasant - to hot and humid for me to feel comfortable. The best way of beating the weather is to get busy, and busy I was! The roof is now fully covered with shingles and some of the roof detail is up as well. I am not yet sure about gutters and downpipes. The pictures I have seen in the web show none of these.

Here is an update on the engine house:

Ken - take care! Kidney infections are not to be taken lightly. I know what I am talking about! I had several in my youth, which nearly did me in.

I am getting a Kidney Infection. Last night I noticed a small pain in the right lower back. Last night my back hurt depending on how I laied. Pain is still there this morning.

Ah yes the joys of uninary tract infections/kiddney stones Crying Been there, done that so many times in my life that I've lost count. I think it's about 18 kidney stones since I was 24 and who knows how many infections. I feel for ya man.

As chance would have it, I'm currently expecting another attack this summer. I have the typical symptoms off and on and so I just wait till it decides to move and cause the usual pain and what not.

Well, off to get my ears lowered before my wife gets out the sizzors herself.

Cheers

Mr. David PArks, I have sent you a PM!

Well, I have slept away teh Am on the pills my Dr gave me. Thing is its a different type of pain, more muscular than the usual bone pain I feels. Like I have pulled every muscle from mid torso down. ANd  like I pulled  a muscle in my neck, and those USUALLY go away in a day or two, not so this time. eihter I really damaged then or something. Probably trying to pick upthe bumper cover and bungee cording it to the frame was NOT a good idea, but is ALSO accident related. Onthe rihgt side i feel like I've been kicked in the kidney!

I have been gathering pledges, no real great amout but little dabs will do it, for getting JEffrey a safer vehicle, I have mine plus some other dollars pledged. Looking for pledges now. He could be in an accident if his van quit at a light or other spot and the additional heat of summer down there doesn't help! He said he really needs a full sized van{rarer these days} or a dime an dozen pick-em-up truck. I have had great luck with EFI, except the computer insides only avaialble to the dealer that had a loose wire in it the dealer could do {a $69 repair}, but jeffrey may not want efi. the efis I have had outlasted the vehicles in some cases! adn go long periods between tuneups, saving money. Dunno. Any body want to pledge, PM me please. We do need more. I have been perusing CL in his area to see what is available, wich i was clsoer, as some vehicles, rust free, caught my attention! Wish I coudl get same up here! maybe we won't gather enough to do much for him, dunno.

well, i think it time to go back to bd and sleep off med some more.

later

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday breakfast buffet please, Thank you.

Well the 4th came and went. Which reminds me ….I hope everyone had a happy holiday. Mine was…Hmm..typical. Anyway, here it is Sunday already and not much has gotten done I had planned so hopefully, hopefully, some will today. Not much as this is Sunday of course and I hope to start using Sunday as a day of rest and relaxation. It works that way many times so I can’t really complain.

Good morning all... Flo... Zoe. I was waiting for an introduction from these old curmudgeons, but I guess I'll have to do that myself. Nice meeting you girls, heard much about ya'll.

Ulrich... still working on making my linear layout "wiggly".

Enjoyed the Independance Day Festivities. Although at my age I enjoy watching more than doing.

Decided to wash an wax the old girl this weekend, before scouting my area for any photo ops.

Took a drive to the Lock and Dam No. 25 area, and came across this grain silo. This is corn and soy area, and they transfer grain to Mississippi barges. You can see the conveyor running over to the Mississippi.

Thought maybe you guys would maybe like the weathering effects. Got back to a project I am working on to restore an old Coleman 200A single mantel lantern. Decided to finish it up.

It was in pretty bad condition. I have cleaned all the brass valves and piping, and am starting to strip the fount.

Starting to reassemle.

And, FINALLY finished with a long project. That is polished steel.

All in all, I great holiday weekend!

Good morning.
There's a rumor in another forum that Jeff has a b'day tomorrow.
Ken .... That looks like "The Grill of Your Dreams"!

We're still busy with grand children visiting, but that is about over. We took them to fireworks last night. The state parks here rotate the 4th of July fireworks rotate between each other over July 3, 4, and 5. Last night we sat on the shore of Kentucky Lake watching fireworks at Kenlake State Park.

Today, the two girls will ride with us to Louisville where we will meet their parents who will take them home to Cincinnati. Then we'll get a break from the full schedule of the past two months. I might actually have time to work on the model railroad

Jeffery I have found that Ford Pick Up's carb gaskets are thicker than Maw Mopars carb gaskets. I usually try for one that is a 1/4 thick. You may need to adjust your kick down linkage some what.

That's an idea. Shouldn't be difficult to find one to fit under a two barrel carburetor.

*

Good morning. It's 72° with 87% humidity. Sunny with a high of 92°.

Well, as usual it seems, no plans for today. My birthday is tomorrow and I have no idea whatsoever what I'll be doing outside of being a year older. Yippee. Oh well. I have the //e on and Star Fleet 1 is booted up. Time to go and ruin the Krellan and Zaldron's dreams of galactic conquest.

If that does not do it, next would be blocking off the heat passages in the heads. LA motor (318 Family Group) it is a bit of a pain.

If you need any other help, let me know.

 See you all later, Ken

Good Morning!

Zoe, it´s Sunday, so I´ll go for my usual Sunday morning fare, please!

I got up at 5.30am. It´s too hot inside and outside to get a good sleep. We had a terrific thunderstorm last night, with lots of hail and ra*n. More of this to come in the afternoon.

Well, getting up early has an advantage. After enjoying an eye-opening mug of coffee, I started to put more shingles on the roof. Only 80 shingles to go to have the roof entirely covered. That does not include the top row, though. I still have to figure out, how to do that properly. A few roof details, the doors and some interior things and the engine house will be completed! Won´t be able to do all of this today, as I am running out of glue again. Amazing, how much glue goes into such a building!

Have a splendid Sunday!

Good evening. It's really nice here with 79° outside. There's 72% humidity so it's right over the edge on wetness. No rain tonight, in fact not a mention of rain until Monday.

Well other than going into town for gas I didn't go anywhere today. This morning I worked on the van. I moved the fuel filter away from the lower radiator hose then wrapped it in a few layers of aluminum foil. The metal fuel line was touching the engine in several places so I moved it away and wrapped several layers of the foil around every bit of the line that I could reach. However this all proved pointless as it didn't prevent a vapor lock and fuel boil-off. Cudaken pointed me to a site that described exactly the problem I'm having and how folks there overcame it. So far what I've read is very interesting. Seems this problem is very prevalent to Mopar vehicles of the general era mine is from. This afternoon I tried the engine after returning from town and it was no dice. After a while I shot a bunch of carb cleaner down the carb until the boiling sounds ceased then floored it and cranked the engine. There was a pop, a clatter, a boom then a deafening roar as the engine fired to life. That boom shook my teeth and made my eyes and ears hurt. There was also a big grayish-black (descried by a neighbor) cloud of smoke shooting from the tailpipes. Must've been all that carb cleaner burning off. My ears were ringing for a while after that. My neighbor across the road said his windows rattled. Well, except for a blown out glass pack it's pretty much straight pipes tipped with echo chambers. I hope I can find a good cheap way to stop this vapor locking. The van isn't much as vehicles go but it's all I have. No heat, no a/c, no radio, no vent blower, door seals and windows are drafty as an old castle. It's just very basic transportation.

In other news I got an Apple A9M0107 Platinum disk drive that had good electronics but bad mechanics. I just happened to have one of the same model that had good mechanics and fried electronics. I tore them both down then used the good pieces from each to build one that works 100%. I keep this up I may be able to cure a rainy day! I have the drive connected to my //e now and a Mitac Disk II clone drive is plugged into the A9M0107's daisy-chain port. They work great together. Some may think that combination shouldn't work. If so they don't know me very well.

It's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Jeffery I beening a Mopar Freak do not think it is beacuse of low compression. I am with Ray, vapor lock / Carb Heat Soak. This is a commone problem with Mopar's rather it be a 318 2 barrel, HP engine with after market parts! Here is a link for you. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?topic=52284.0 Getting the fuel line away from the block is the first step. Thicker Carb Gaskets took care of mine. Blocking off the heat riser in the head that warms the intake all so helped many at the site. Good chances there is a lot of life left in your 318.

Interseting site. The very first post I read smacked my problem (hard start and fuel boiling) right on the head. I just went out and tried cranking it over again. No dice. Then I sprayed carb cleaner down the throat of tghe carb until I heard the boiling sound stop. I pinned the gas pedal to the floor and closed the choke then cranked it over. There was a clatter, a boom and then it fired up like a hemi with a roar that shook my teeth and made my eyes and ears hurt. The choke snapped open on it's own and I let the pedal up. Split pipes with no cat or muffler. Only a blown out glass pack (poor mans cherry bomb) and echo chambers on the tail pipes. Glad there wasn't anybody standing back there. If somebody comes knocking on the door complaining about cracked windows I may have to take them at their word. That reminds me. The hanger on the right tailpipe is broken. I have to tie it up with some stainless steel wire. No time like the present.
