Evening Dinners!
Flo, Pleases.
Work Front Good thing I had a great day Thursday, today at Saint Charles we only had 2 customers in 7 hours? Closed the store at 5:00 PM and off to Traget I went!
Grill At Target Got there and it looked better in person than in the pictuer!

She sent for a cart and they started to load the Display Grill? She said it was the last one and it was a close out! While it is not huge, it is a good side grill. How they heck do I stuff that thing in my Town Car? Only ones that where still in boxes where back in St Louis where I had just drove by! She offred me a floor model discout of 10% Well that is something, but I all so pointed out it had a couple of dents! (real small ones) She then offred me another 10% off. But I was still trying to fiuger out how to get it in the trunk of my car? Just when I had a plan in my head she offred 15% off for a total off 25% off! I had to buy 2 Bungee Cords (That I need anyway) and the deal was done. I paid only $119.01 for the grill! My plan worked on getting it in the Town Car. I pulled the cast iron bunners and bungee the lid shut. Put the top down in the trunk well and had the legs sticking up. Sock Guys wanted to stick the legs in first but I wanted the weight in the trunk, not hanging out of the trunk! Gill is well built, weights 110 pounds! See you all later, Ken

Evening guys
Been really busy with the new job, just haven't really felt like posting.
I got 3 more Athearn RTR SD40-2s in the mail the other day. These ones were never opened from the inital release (IIRC, 2006). I tested all three of them and they run very well. It's weird, only the ones from the latest runs have issues. The older ones seem to run the best.
I've also went to a train show in tallahassee. my train of loaded accurail Autoracks worked flawlessly. Lots of kids seemed to love it, and a few tried to count the cars (138). I got a pretty nice haul too, best part being finding kato bilevels for about 1/3 of what they go for new. I had spent most of my money when I found them, but I was able to work a deal with the guy to where I can but them later when I send him a check.
Even though today is independence day, my father kept me busy. I had to pressure wash the patio, put a radiator in the '94 Mustang Cobra (it will be for sale once it's painted), and helped my father align his '90 mustang for racing later on. IIRC, the temperature was around 98, but it wasn't as humid as it normally is...
Galaxy, sounds like fun with the Kia. My father had one when he was TDY in korea. He said it sucked, even compared to his first car (a beat-up maverick with a rusted-out trunk).

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

May I have such luck!
I doubt it,
SO far they can't even order the right parts? I mean It IS a Kia Dealer shop, and they DON'T KNOW which part is which? Instead They go by what the State Farm guy puts down? Maybe I picked the wrong place, thinking they know what they are doing?
ANd I have to wait to at least TUesday for it now?
dunno!
Not a happy camper here, and will be less so when I get the mounds of paperwork to fill out at every turn!

Afternoon guys
Still a warm afternoon after a cool morning. Im still working on a building kit at the moment. While at the mall today picked up a european model railroad magazine. Kind of cool to see model railroading from other countries. Pizza for dinner tonight
Weather is still beautiful so you don't have to guess what I've got planned for the weekend. Cruzin time.
Happy 4th to all south of the border. Have a great time.
Cheers

Well, thanks to the new script, I have basically slept the day away! I usually don't have such a problem, and I am not liking it. I don't feel I can safely drive. SO none for me this way. Plus it doesn't feel as if it is working? The only "relief" I get is just sleeping!
I will put in a call to my Dr. on Monday and say, "hey its not working!"
No mail today, so no check form his insurance agency. mail to us is slow. It always is, we are a small town. At least we HAVE A Post Office! I guarantee you the check will be later this month, if at all, and will NOT be for the CORRECT amount! At least not the way my luck is running!

well, tonight will drive our cat crazy as we are in a valley surrounded by hills that will echo REAL Legal fireworks form about 5 different sources we think. We are NOT getting Anywhere NEar any of the firework displays, especially the 'big one" around here, and MOH is glad to NOT be workign at the grocery store as it is right across form the park wheere the "big one is held".

Jeffrey, sorry you have such troubles with that stupid motor! Wish I knew what to tell you, but I am NOT mechanically inclined! Maybe Ken has ideas??? HE seems to be Mopar inclined....
TO bad Jeffrey, I could not have given you the old caravan, the motor was sound, everything, including air, cruise, radio, etc. but the power flap window rear passenger side worked, and the passenger window would go down and sometimes not go up unless you slammed the door {loose wire would seem the cause, but none could be found?}. I think another 50K miles could have easily been gotten out of it, if it was not exposed to more salt like we use ad naseum in winter here. That alone would have saved the body. I mean I practically rebuilt the thing after it reached the 10 year mark! It had MANY new parts.

tcwright973 Here's wishing everyone a safe & fun filled 4th of July. This holiday is sort of special for me as on this date 47 years ago I arrived back home from Viet Nam intact & with all my body parts. Hard to imagine it was that long ago. I got to the apartment & my wife wasn't home. Neither was the landlord downstairs, so I couldn't get into the apartment. Stashed my duffel bag in the laundry room and walked about a mile to my parents. No one home there either. So I walked another mile to my Sisters. You guessed it, no one home. So back to the apartment where I took a nap of the stoop. Turns out everyone was on a family picnic. Everybody was really surprised to see me as I wasn't due to be home until the 9th. It was a rough night when the fireworks started though. A lot of them sure sounded like incoming mortars. Kind of made a fool of myself the first time I hit the floor.

Tom, Though I think Viet Nam was big time misunderstood, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. and glad you have ALL your body parts intact.
You aren't the only one who thought of incomings when things like fireworks went off,s o don't think of yourself as a "fool". {though not me, just know of some who still seem to have trouble with things that go "boom" in the night}
There are firecrackers going off around here already and they are illegal here.
A friend on another forum sent me a new coil ballast resistor for my van. I installed it this morning hoping that it would solve the hot starting problem I have with it. All I needed to test it was a hot start situation. Got that when my niece called to ask me to go to her house and turn the water off (leaking water heater). I knew that was going to take a bit as the hole where the cutoff valve is almost always needs to be dug out. I left the vans engine running while I took care of that then came back home and shut it down. I waited about an hour then went out to start it again. Nope, no start. It'll crank over, there's spark but no ignition. Spraying starting fluid in the carb does nothing. It's so hot in there that the fluid very quickly boils out. After it cools down for a few hours it'll kick right over.
Thanks for the reply Ulrich.
Here are the photos of my workbench.
Terrific weather here in the "Burgh" right now. It's 68 degrees & breezy. A good time to shut off the central air and open up the windows. Hope it stays this way the rest of the weekend. It will make for some good railfanning. Traffic on Norfolk Southern's line should be back to normal as I believe they had all tracks reopened by last night. They are saying it will take a couple of weeks to determine why one train rear ended the other. It's going to be interesting to see what they come up with.
The interior doors are all installed, but they will be back on Monday to reinstall the remaining trim & there's 1 more door they have to prime. What a difference. They work so smooth. No more jiggling door knobs to get them open. well worth the expense.
All the talk about new grills, well the old reliable out in the garage will get fired up later this afternoon for burgers & kielbasa. That will be dinner along with potato salad & a glass or two of Reisling from Seneca Lake. So have a nice holiday & enjoy the weekend.

Good Morning,
Happy 4th to all our friends South of the Border!
Galaxy, my sympathy for all your car troubles. It seems a lot considering the damage wasn't that great. I'm surprised that the repair shop didn't have a loaner car. When my Volvo got rear ended a few years ago they gave me a loaner that I had for 3 weeks while they waited for parts and the ok to do more repairs. The insurance did decline the extra repairs as the cost was going to be over 7k. Hard to believe that the only visual evidence was a broken tail light and a cracked bumper. We have a government run insurance here that works very well. The costs are good and the service is too. The body shops are privately run.
I had to get an electrican out yesterday as we lost power on the south wall which includes the outside plugs. Turns out a squirrel had chewed the cable that runs underground to the the recepticle by the pond and the wire shorted out. I expect that squirrel will cost me at least $200 but more likely $300 as it did take some time to trace the problem.
Warm weather here at last so I'm going outside to do a few chores.

well, Ulrich,
I am not sure what year you are "truely representing", but I am assuming 1920-ish.
Many victorian buildings had copper half round gutters. Copper gutters here hard to see here but there none the less:
http://glightconstruction.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/sp-20s-after.jpg
This is a more modern copper gutter {not so apropriate, but the round down spout is}:
http://www.blog.barnlightelectric.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/drake_copper_gooseneck_light_exterior_lighting-778x1024-583x768.jpg
Also wooden gutters {yes wood} could have been used:
here is a pic/site on restoring wooden gutters:

pages 8&9 here deal with gutters/downspouts:

page 29 here shows the types that could be available:
http://landmarksociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/ReHab-Rochester-small.pdf
I found these under the search of "gutters on 1920s houses". SOme gutters were "built in" to the eaves.
at the 6:08 mark is a copper roof install that also shows the half round copper gutters in it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKy5qHvh7qg
At teh 12:00 mrark is the copper gutters!
Installing half round gutters:

i got those form entering "victorian gutters"
Good Luck Ulrich!
IF you decide to put them on, I'd go half round. They seem to be the most common, unlike today's modern "K style". But I don't know that an engine house would have had them?
Have fun!

To all of us in the US of A, Happy 4th. of July, Independence day!!!
It is chilly for July here in the Finger Lakes this morning. Currently 61°F with high around 71°F this afternoon. Mostly cloudy with the sun peeking through every now and then.
I forgot to get my Diabetes Medicine refilled yesterday and counted pills this morning. I don't have enough to get through the weekemnd! The pharmacy is closed today, so I will take a quick run over there and see if they will be open tomorrow. Worst case scenerio is I will cut the pills in half and take a half dose until I can get the refill on Monday. I used to be on that dose so even though the sugar will be higher, I should be OK.
Ulrich, that engine house is looking great! Nice work! The uncoupling issue can probably be corrected witout removing part of the layout. I would do some tweeking first and keep the Wye....
I hope to get the fence almost done (weeding and spredding mulch) today. Plan to get down cellar to the layout and continue putting a small bridge together. Also waiting on the Division Newsletter editor to finish the latest issue so I can get it out to the membership.
Later!

Hello ..
Well most of our company has departed but we still have the 2 grand daughtrs from Cincinnati. We had nine people here for several days. The group from Michigan is now in Tennessee to see family there.
Canadians ... My apologies for not mentioning Canada Day while I was in the Diner briefly on July 1st. No excuse even though I was busy with all the family visitors. Hope you had a wonderful July 1st!
Todd ... I thought of you last night because we went out for Asian food.
Bear ... Sorry to hear about your friend's passing. Evidently, you meant a lot to him to the end.
Ken .... That's a big grill.
On the way back from dinner last night, I saw where my friend, Dan, had his accident. His car tore apart about 50' of guard rail. His pride and joy, a Cadilac STS he has had for many years, was totalled. He intended to keep it for several more years because its V8 engine is no longer available. He does not know what he will replace it with.
Have a great 4th of July!

Good Afternoon!
It is hot outside! We keep the shades lowered and hope, that our apartment does not heat up. Right now, it is a comfortable 21°C inside.
I have been laying the remaining shingles, but now I have run out of any. I will wait for a few more days before making those 400+ shingles I need to finish the roof. I might do the doors in the meantime.
This is how far I got today:
I have a question to the community. What type of gutters and downpipes would such a building have? I searched the web, but was unable to find a picture showing gutters.
Ken - got that grill yet? Today´s the day for BBQ!
Good morning. It's 70° with 91% humidity. The high will be 92°. There's a small chance of showers and thunderstorms. Morning: . Afternoon: Happy 4th of July!No plans for today other than the usual. I'm waiting for the Home Health nurse to call. This last wound vac dressing has done extremely well. I didn't have to any repairs to it at all. If only they could all be like that. I'll likely get in at least one game of Star Fleet 1 and a few movies. I have one on right now called 'The Man Who Knew Too Little'. It's been somewhat entertaining so far. Then again Bill Murray has seldom been a disappointment. As for any festivities today, I guess it's whatever the family comes up with. For me it's pretty much just another day.
Just checked on the status of the disk drive I bought on the first. It's already in Shreveport so I'll likely have it tomorrow.
Happy Fourth of July! The concert and fireworks in Boston went off pretty well. The storms dodged the city, or maybe they hit later. We lost power a bit after 11 PM, and it came back a few hours later. Fortunately, we'd already cooled the house down with the ACs.
My car insurance company has a list of pre-approved body shops, which greatly simplifies things. The good one in town is on the list, so that's where we go. When they hand back the keys, I always say "I hope I never have to see you again." We both laugh, and we both know I'm probably wrong. I've got their number on my cell phone.
The hurricane is moving up the coast, offshore far enough that we will get a rainy day, but not much more. Cape Cod, a popular place on holiday weekends, will get more weather and may see some storm damage.
I will be doing benchwork. I've got the box frames done, and I cut one leg last night. (A wooden leg, and no, I'm not a pirate.) Today I'll do the rest of the legs, put the whole thing together and make sure it's level, and then dismantle it for staining and polyurethane. I do like my benchwork to look more like furniture and less like a hastily thrown-together table with a pink foam top, and besides, as Jefferson wrote, it "promotes domestic tranquiltiy."
Morning guys.
Cool and cloudy here at the moment actually temps are below normal which is nice. Its a nice fresh morning and I can open all the windows and air it out. I love central A/C but after a few days I want fresh air in here. This morning I will post some pics of my workbench also.
Ken: Im stoping by tomorrow for some BBQ chops, steaks and brugers and maybe a few . Nice looking grill.

Today's Quotes:
Don't go forth on the Fourth with a fifth of booze, or you might not go forth on the Fifth!-anon
So long as you have food in your mouth, you have solved all questions for the time being. -Franz Kafka, novelist (1883-1924)
Happy Birthday, America!
Good Morning Folks!
Going to be a hot day today with the temps to exceed 30°C, bringing us a row of thunderboomers moving in from southwest later in the evening. This is our normal summer weather.
No plans for the day - I may lay another row of shingles (or two).
Ken - that´s a nice looking grill, and certainly a steal for the price you quoted. Those grills are much, much more expensive. BBQ is quite popular in Germany, but most folks don´t know how to do it properly. They rather burn the meat, or should I say the sausages? It´s Bratwurst all over, no spate ribs, steaks, burgers etc.
Galaxy- I can´t stop shaking my head when I read about that paperwork ordeal you have to go through with the accident of yours. I always thought our red tape is pretty bad, but compared to yours, it seems to be Mickey Mouse. Last time I had an accident, the car was just towed to the garage, I signed 1(!) paper and the involved insurance companies dealt with the case among themselves. When the car was fixed, I signed another paper - that was all. The same applies for our health system. When I go to see a doctor, all I have to do is to present my card. I do have to pay $ 13.50 at the pharmacy for each prescription and the same amount for each day of stay in a hospital, but the total amount is limited to not more than $ 270 a year. There is hardly any paperwork involved in that.
Flo, please and I take a Big Boy Sub.
For A Caboose Start Today Turned Out To Be A Great Day!
Lawyer Went and sign the paper work again! Man I was dog tired when I got there at 9:30 AM. Did not sleep well and was up at 6:20 AM.
Work Front I got there at 11:00 AM and felt like the walking dead. Carey even said I looked like death. Was not sick, just plan exhausted! By 1:00 we decided today was going to be real slow, Boy We Where Wrong!
Flood Gates Opned Around 3:00 PM! Carey had a Good Day and mine was Great! It was one of those day where I could do no wrong! By the end of the day I had $4300.00 and Carey $2500.00! With as good as day I had, I am no longer trying to talk my self out ofthe new grill. So Friday I am swing by Target and picking this up!

Good evening. The temp here is an agreeable 73° but the humidity is a damp feeling 83%. The possibility of thunderstorms is 50/50.This morning was taken up by the doc appointment and grocery shopping. I gave my father a check to drop at the loan company then he went to pick up some mouse traps. That pretty much blew the morning. As for the afternoon I watched a couple of movies and got a couple hours of sleep. Later I looked around on eBay and found a package of two Imagwriter printer ribbons for $6.99 with free shipping. Think I was gonna pass that up? I expect to have those in hand no later than Wednesday. The disk drive I bought on the first should also be here no later than Wednesday.
