Good morning. It's 75° with 100% humidity. Lots of clouds today with a high of 95°.

Just the usual today. Movies and games. Throw in a little of whatever presents itself and it might be an interesting day. Got a descent nights sleep for a change.

Happy Tuesday!  Well, maybe not.  It's getting too hot here.  We managed with the fan last night, but we may have to depend on the sorry old AC tonight.  Still trying to get a carpenter to help with widening the opening so I can install the new one.

Hockey is tonight, so I'll get in a few hours of winter.  I find that my body wakes up and feels great on nights like this, as soon as I step into the rink.

Possible good news on the retirement front.  Corporate has announced that they will not be protesting the award of a big contract to a competitor, so if they're going to make "workforce adjustments," it will come sooner rather than later.  I want to be a "workforce adjustment."

Morning all.  Already 80 degrees outside, and a chance of thunderstorms-severe-so I'm gonna wait to wash my car for a couple days.  I think I may spend 4th of July running trains on the club layout-good way to celebrate huh?

well,

I found a nice MRing space with 3BRs above it, a small-ish one, 988 SQ FT.

It is out in the country, high on a hill, so it won't flood. That is desireable, and the taxes are atually reasonable for the nearly half acre plot with the MRRIng space on it.

Of course, we change from Oil heat to propane and add C A/C maybe.

It's to bad we are just not in a position to buy right now....

Well, I might have to fight his insurance to keep the rental over the weekend IF they don't get mine back to me before the holiday! If the holiday wasn't there, I'd be fine for getting it on Friday, I think.

Off to the Psychiatrist this afternoon {where I WAS going when I got rear-ended} to make up the appt. Now lets see if I can get there and back WHOLE and INTACT.

Mr. B. Can you just take reguar retirement? Or is it a lucrative deal to be "out-sized" from the company?

Dunno, I am already deemed "retired" and MOH will HAVE to work until at least age 70 if the Paget's bone disease allows for that. Then SS will be probably the only retirement we will have. At the pay rate MOH is at, we really don't have enough to last for long-term savings, and age 70 is only 15 years away.

later all

Good Afternoon!

Well, I have not been up to much today! I am off the pain meds now and while the hand is getting better, there is still enough pain left to feel uncomfortable. So I am still doomed to do nothing...

Garry - I received my August copy of MR today and the first thing I had a look at was your double-page picture. Just awsome!

Bow

I just love how the backdrop blends into the scenery without dominating it! The backdrop somehow reminds me of the Black Forest region of Germany - am I right?

Galaxy - enquiring minds want to learn more about the house!

I´ll keep my hand braced for a few more days, even if thaat means no MRRing in that time.

Have a good one!

Galaxy, yes, I am eligible to just walk out the door and retire.  But you're right - being "right-sized" is a better financial deal.  It would be a layoff, even if it's voluntary, so I would be eligible for unemployment.  The standard layoff package is 2 week's pay, plus another week's pay for every year of service.  I've been here 20 years, so that's a substantial chunk of change, and they would provide the same medical for that interval.  After that, because I'd still be drawing a salary, my pension would be slightly larger when I start taking it.

Sir Madog

Galaxy - enquiring minds want to learn more about the house!

Its a plain jane "box" or "rectangle ranch":

http://realtyusa.com/property/85-GARDNER-ROAD-VESTAL-NY-13850/BinghamtonNY/194849/

If you can view it, it was sent in a private email via my criteria for a house!

The taxes are actually a bargain for around here! In town the taxes could be 50%-100% higher for a .10-.14 plot of land not the .44 this one I have here has!

Happy hunting!

I can see the real estate link, so it's working under some conditions, anyway.

We had a real estate agent come over last night.  We're not in the market right now, but we see it as a long process currently about a year out.  Layoff or not, I'll be retired by the end of the year, so we are looking to get out of Taxachusetts.  The RE agent's husband has trains, and I think her RE partner (not her husband) does too, so they understand those of us looking for a nice basement with maybe a house on top of it.

Saw it, Mr. G.! Not bad, only the pink bedroom would deter me! The price may seem low, but the same amount would probably get you the Whidbey, incl. the land...

I am in a somewhat low mood, not only because I am doomed to be lazy. I still want to get out of this place, this country. I can´t breathe freely here.

Morning guys,

Was out early to get the front and back grass cut, also weed the flower beds. They were calling for some nasty storms but they seem to be staying away from here for the time being. Making my lsi of things to do on the model railroad and the list is already at 25 things. One of them being putting in a new indusrty which result in losing the passenger sation. Still doing up the plans now. I have all the materails and building I will need except still debating wheter to go with woodlands scenic smooth it or drywall compound for roads. I will have to tear out some existing scnery and a old gravel road first.

Ulrich ... Thanks for commenting. I use Faller backdrops because I like the sky although their paper is too thin in my opinion. I add pictures of buildings and other things with glue like making a collage. I also paint on them to change things. Sometimes I blow scenery products onto the backdrop after spreading clear glue on them. The scenery on the layout adjacent to the backdrop has the same colors and textures. The rock strata is made using the broken plaster method.

Mr. B .... I hope the employer puts together an attractive retirement package for you soon.

We still have company, and so I am brief now.

Happy Model Railroading!

Mr. B: if you can't see it {I assume you cna't the way you mention the link above, , it is a 988 Sq Ft rectangle 3 BR/1BA ranch, $89,900, taxes: $2,767/yr, .44 country hilltop acres, level lot, oil forced air heat, no garage, just long single lane straight blacktop driveway. As Ulrich says, the PINK BR would have  to go!

WOuld you miss work or are you seeking retirement and looking forward to "more train time" for that layout of yours?

To, me forced retirement kinda sucks.

Good Afternoon,

Happy July 1st to all my fellow Canucks!

Not a very nice day here weathewise. Right now it is 58F, cloudy with a strong NW wind. We actually put a log on the fire and turned on the heat. It is supposed to start warming up tomorrow and hit 85F by Saturday but I've heard that story before. Not much of a summer yet and as it is now July it had better hurry up.

I actually assembled that N scale gas station I painted a couple of months ago. I didn't put the pump island together as I am waiting to pick up the decal set I ordered. The station came with Gulf decals but there weren't any Gulf stations here until the 1960's so I bought a set of ESSO decals. Sure has been a big change is gas station owners/names here since I was growing up. We has Esso, B/A (British/American which later became Gulf), Sunoco, Supertest, BP, White Rose and a few others. Only Esso is still around and of course Shell.

Mr. B., it sounds like we are in a similar position to you. I have just retired and we are looking at moving too but not for a couple of years. We want to go someplace a little warmer which means the West Coast but it is a big move complicated by the fact that my MIL is still here and going strong at 80. We also are going back to Africa next year so won't be in a position to get much done on the moving front for at least a couple of years. I think we have to have our house in a state of 'ready to move' before we actually buy something else so we can sell right away. That means a major culling of a lot of stuff accumulated in the 25 years we have been in this house.

Well hope everyone is doing ok.

To, me forced retirement kinda sucks.

You said a mouthful there brother! I wouldn't mind going back to work but I already know from bitter experience what'll happen. I'll be back in the hospital within a month. The last time almot did me in so I just have to endure medically enforced retirement whether I like it or not. That's good in a way as I have lots of free time to work on things but it's bad as there's a lot of things I can no longer do.

Jeffrey, I ALMOST added something like "I'm sure Jeffrey would agree", then thought I wouldn't add you to my misery, but obviously misery loves company!

I am fairly certain our friend Ken would agree for his wife, too, as he's had so many problems over it, too!

I'd like to think about working again, and have even contacted SSD about the rules, but then I get a day of lying nearly constantly flat on my side and off my aching back, or it gets close to the spinal nerve injections time, and/or the mental idea of work and I cannot cope with the mere thought of it anymore! It mostly is while I am in a "manic mood" and I think I can whip the world by the tail, that that moments come.

Then i come down and cannto cope with supper let alone work.

Sometimes here i can put on a brave face, but I really cannot cope many times. Its a all  facade, maybe even a charade, but...

Even the new psychiatrist says I have a "pleasant personality"..he doesn't know me on a bad manic trip when I may be apt to throw or destroy things....the pleasant personality is really due to MOH pulling me up from the depths of despair!

That ans I TRY very HARD to "keep a positive outlook" to offset the despair of a  major depression. i used to turn to alcohol for that but not in many many years! {I used to drink a gallon and a half of vodka a day and was deemed "functional"}

dinner was roasted beast over noodles with green beans..

have a great night...

Been watching a bunch of Mythbusters shows today. Good entertainment. I was looking around on eBay this morning. Came across an Apple A9M0107 disk drive tagged as tested and working and priced under $30 and free shipping so I snapped it up. I can either use it as is or tear it down for parts. That's the beginning and end of my 'fun money' for this month. Bank overdrafts took the rest. I have plenty in another account but that's for home repairs and won't be used for anything else unless it's a dire emergency. Buying toys whether they be computer parts or model trains doesn't fit that description.

Evening guys

Ken: Good looking "Q", do you have to assemble it or does it come pre-asembled? ours was a small 2 burner grill and went toegther pretty good. As I recall we built ours in the spring before it got too warm out.

The cold front has passed well, kind of. The temps only drooped a few degrees and we are still sitting at temps in the mid 90's. I keep adding to my model railroad to do fall-winter time list. Not doing much tonight otherwise, I might just flip through MR.

Evenin' folks!

Been a busy day here in the Finger Lakes.  I spent a few hours finishing a couple campsites out at camp.  On the way home I stopped at my son's house to do a few things for him while his family is visiting my other son in Chicago.  The MIL can't clean the kitty litter box so I emptied that and refilled it.  Also put a new large water bottle in their dispenser (the well water is not good drinking water, so they buy the drinking water), and set the garbage dumpster out at the road for pick up early tomorrow.  MIL can haul it back to the garage.

Spent much of the afternoon getting the rest of the needed materials together for the next Division newsletter (that should have gone out 2 weeks ago....).  Also spent some time weeding one of the raised bed gardens and doing a couple loads of wash.  Tomorrow I hope to get more weeding done along the fence and put down the mulch I bought...

Twas a hot day here... 90°F but with fairly low humidity and a nice breeze (at least out at camp).  Had a rain shower mid afternoon with some very heavy precipitation.  Didn't last long but things got drenched in a short time.

It seems the bridge project I started a couple months ago is still sitting right where I left it on a work table down cellar....  Need to go check the wash.

Later!

Running late tonight. Earlier today I set up one of the IIe's on my bed, connected one disk drive to it, ran the video signal into the video port on my VCR and turned my TV into a thirty-seven inch flat screen monitor. Played a game of Star Fleet 1 then watched one of the Murder She Wrote mystery movies, "The Last Free Man". Afterward put the computer away and came in to type up this post.

That's all for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Had I looked at the calendar, rather than just gone by Ulrich's opening as the first, I would have seen that it was "Canada Day"! {but how is Ulrich supposed to know the day's significance to Canadians?}

Gidday Chloe, a glass please of whatever tickles the fancy to the patrons of the diner so we can drink a toast to an older friend and model railroader who passed away this afternoon. Alan had been poorly the last couple of years but only gave up his independence in February and moved into a home. Unfortunately his health deteriorated quickly but while he probably wasn’t aware that I visited this morning, the nurse reassured me he was comfortable, so his passing was a blessing in disguise. Though Alan extremely disliked old age nursing homes, such was his character that he would always come and help out when we took a small portable layout to show at the local homes, though, after we’d packed up, he would join me in a stiff drink back at my place.
Thoughts and Best wishes to all that need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Good morning. It's 73° with 100% humidity. Cloudy today with a high of 95°.
Morning: Afternoon:

Weather guesser says we're expecting fair weather today and to enjoy it as it looks like rain will be moving in tonight. One thing about Louisiana, if you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes.

No plans for today. I'm just waiting for the Home Health nurse to call. After the wound vac dressing is changed my father wants me to look up the Camping World site on his PC and help him find a cover for his new RV. It's quite dusty out here and he'd like to keep as much of it as possible off his new toy.

As for me, more of the same as usual. Movies, games, games, movies with a bit of chance and the unforeseen thrown in for good measure.

Good morning, though a warm one again.  We've got today and tomorrow to get through, but then it will cool down and get wetter for the weekend, as tropical storm slash hurricane Arthur brushes by.

I celebrated Canada Day by playing hockey last night.  We cut short our post-game festivities because there were too many bugs.  Had a good time, though.

Bear, sorry to hear about your friend.  Celebrate a life well lived and remember him fondly.

Lately at work, the annoying issues seem to outweigh the interesting challenges.  I feel that we used to be real engineers, building things and solving problems.  Now, we're just a component of the "Process" machinery, and it gets harder to get anything done.  We push products along even when they don't work yet, because the schedule says they are done.  I don't like that mentality.  The commute has gotten a lot worse, too, although this morning was a breeze.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Sorry to hear of your friends passing Bear

Mr B : Hockey is well, just nuts here. When you live in the city Wayne Gretzky is from hockey #1 here, we have outdoor ball hockey rinks here also. Not my fvaorite sport ( baseball, F1 and hockey are ) I rember playing some games in the ol rink during the suumer. There was the low fog on the ice and the ceiling would drip on you mkaing the ice bumpy. Yu would walk outside after the game and the heat punched you in the face. But it is refreshing when you first walk in.

Not much planned today. I have to pick up a new pair of shoes for the jo I start next Tuesday. I might stop by and see if any trains are going through. I have already cleaned the hpuse and spray painted the wall of a warehouse kit im working on. I will save the airbrush for weathering. I find using a rattle can puts down the best finish on a large item.

talk to you guys later

Jeremy
