Good evening ...

Galaxy ... Funny limericks!

Broadway Lion .... I saw the Lions and the Tigers when we lived in Detroit area. ... Roar, yourself!

Jeff .... Remarkable. You have an end door and a diaphragm installed on the old Varney F3.

JohnBoy .... A few days ago you were saying you may need surgery. Hope everything is okay with you.

Sue .... Feel free to post some of the older pictures of your and Larry's layout. It would be good to see it again.

Well, Tood..... Was it Outback or Chinese?

Paul ... I hope your eyes keep improving.

Flip ... Are you looking in? Have you heard from Curt lately?

Mr. B.  It was good to see your progress posted in WPF.

Ray .... I like the photos you posted in WPF. ( I Think I said that yesterday already but it is worth repeating.)

Our bags are packed for another trip. We leave for Cincinnati in the morning to be with family there a few days. It's over 300 miles one way from here.

Not much accomplished on the layout today. Too much other stuff to do.

Happy Model Railroading!

After all the work I did on the F3 yesterday I think I'll take a break today and do a bunch of nothing. On the other hand I could do some work on the passenger cars.

Good morning!

When I left the house yesterday morning, it was 39 degrees.  Tomorrow, it's going to be over 90.  New England weather drives you crazy sometimes.  But, as they say, if you don't like it, wait a few minutes and it will change.

Had a great weekend with daughter Annie.  Her car is actually "my" car, registered in Massachusetts, so it has to be inspected here.  We got that taken care of, and then got her a credit card of her own.  She understands the need to build a credit history of her own, not linked to ours, so she wanted a card.  She's been very responsible with the "emergency" card we have on our account for her, so this should be easy.  Chores done, we went for a bike ride on the rail-trail that was once the "Reformatory Branch" of the B&M, and had another nice dinner together.  I had limited modeling time over the weekend, but it was great nevertheless.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Morning all,

Very humid here this morning with temperatues expected to be in the high 80's. We had to turn the air conditioner back on yesterday afternoon as the humidy & temperatures were starting to rise. Then we had some severe thunderstorms move thru in the early evening. That made things very muggy. I've got a couple of loads of wash to do. Actually, 2 loads are done already. Didn't sleep well last night for some reason, so I got up early to get a head start on things. I need to mow the lawns, but I might let that chore go as I don't feel like doing it. This might be one of those days to simply chill out and not do much of anything.

Hope you all have a good day...

Jeff .... Remarkable. You have an end door and a diaphragm installed on the old Varney F3.

That was the easiest part of the whole operation yesterday. I found a metal door blank that had a single window and glued it on then glued a diaphragm over that.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, Just my dark roast coffee with a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts to start the day please.

Was very dark and hazy when I got up this morning.  Was 62°F then...  Couple hours later it is 72°F and rising rapidly to the high of mid 90's this afternoon.  (Thanks Barry!)  I have a couple quick things to do outside, and then intend to spend the rest of today w*rking on the blacksmith shop project.  Went over to Staples yesterday and made two copies of the blueprints for the project.  I will keep the originals put away.

Garry, thanks!  You must really like the photos to mention it twice... Cool

Need to go close up the house while it is still cool...

Later!

 Morning All,

Currently it is 65 with an expected high of 88. It is cooling off a bit and am able to sleep with the upstairs windows open, making it very comfortable.

Another w**k day for me, but first I need to pick up another round of prescription eye drops, then see the optometrist to check on the healing progress of my eyes. They seem to working just fine though.

Mister B - I always really enjoy spending time with my daughters. Although they live 50 miles away, we get together quite often, and have been a real blessing since my wife, their mom, passed away. Not to offend anyone, my son is a blessing too, but since he is in Australia, we do not get together much.

  Prayers to all in need.

Afternoon guys,

What wacky weather here. It was 59f yesterday and today with humidity its feeling like 113 and by Friday it will be back down to the 50's. They say it might be the hottest day of the summer here. I had to cut grass earlier and it was quite warm but it was slightly cloudy then and its very sunny out there at the moment. Might be juts a good idea to stay inside the rest of the day.

Hope everyone is doing well these days.

My goal is to be back working in the Train Room by the latter half of Oct., when the window for pasture work and re-seeding comes to a close. Haven't had nearly enough healthy days lately to get caught up, but some progress is always preferable to no progress.

Hi Gang,

Chloe, if there is any "Chicken of the Sea" Casserole  (Tuna) left I'll clean the platter for you. Chase it with a double RBF as well.  Thanks.

Garry was asking where I am at with this neck situation, well here is the story as best I know it.

Have really slowed down on the LM&E lately, do want to get back at it again, But this THING that is growing in my neck is really zapping my energy. All I want to do is sleep most of the time that I am not at work.

I go tomorrow to the Hospital to have a biopsy  taken from it and will see the Surgeon this time next week. But that will only be to set a date for the surgery I suspect.  Will let you know more as time proceeds.   Sure be glad when it is over though.

Hope Garry has a great trip this week to the home of the Bengals. Safe journey my Friend.

Here at work today, not much happening so time is going slowly.  Kids are all back in school and the school programs don't start here until about the 2nd week of Oct.

Really love the work you fellas are showing, you are not Modelers your are artists.

Hope to post some pictures later this fall..

Paul, glad the eyes are coming along so well for you.

Jeff,    when does your actual rehab start ?

I should be at Post Count 1425, but as of today I am back to 1396 for about the third time, something is really haywire.

Prayers and blessings to all.

Evening guys,

Wow has it been a hot day here. At the moment we are sitting at 84f but feeling like a 100 and the sun has almost set Stick out tongue. I have been working on weathering a boxcar roof today and have finsihed step 1 of about 6 it take a while but its worth it. I love using the M.Graham & Co. transparent orange oxide for rust patches.

Here is a link to there page if anyone is interested. I have a half dozen of there oil paints and think there some of the best oils

http://mgraham.com/products/oil/earth-colors/

Once the oil is down I use a combination of pastel chalks and the AIM powders to define the rust.

Not much planned for tomorrow, the wife and I are going out in the morning and on the way home I might stop off at Michaels crafts and have a look around. If I don't see anything there I'm sure I will pick up a pack of brushes I cant leave there without paint brushes, lol

Have a good night guys

Evening guys

Been busy on working on things. My number 1 client (ok, only client) seems to be really happy with my weathering work. I got 2 more Kadee Hoppers from him to weather. I'm off tomorrow and I'll see about knocking them out then. I really should start taking pictures and posting them in WPF. Perhaps I could do some kind of website to get a small business going.

I tested my 58 car coal train at the club for a bit. I used my 2 Proto 2000 SD45s and 2 Athearn Genesis F45s as I though I might need 4. I had it go up the helix on the broadest curve and it got was spinning wheels but still crawling along. Another member stuck his BLI Hudson on the point for a helper. It moved a little but string lined. so fix rerail the cars, then I started again with the Hudson on the tail. Still going at a snail's pace. I knew something wasn't right. I checked each engine and noticed the F45 that I added weight to wasn't working... So the whole time I was using 3 engines and dragging the 4th. Turns out the weight fell onto the driveshaft and the remnants of the tape pretty much stuck it too it. So I took it off, moved an engine to the back, leaving 2 on the point and 1 trailing. Went right up the helix like nothing was there. I fixed the 4th engine and stuck it back on. worked fine.

anywho, I'm going to bed. i'll see you all tomorrow.

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hiya gang! Cowboy

Been busy the last few days. I've been reading the daily limericks and reading the days affairs, but not much time for much else.

I do have a little safety tip to pass along for you. Exacto knives, besides being very sharp, have 2 other problems:

#1, that knurled metal grip is not very comfortable for repetitive heavy cutting and

#2, they are round and like to roll, Sometimes off the workbench and into your lap or shoe, point 1st. Surprise

The solution? Pencil grips. I just bought a package of them from Staples. I think they are 20 for 10 bucks. Don't need that many. Get a few buddies and split them up! Your body will thank you!!!Smile, Wink & Grin

Flip, You're on the prayer list Angel

Johnboy, you too! Angel

Jeffrey, All these Varney F units keep reminding me of the one I killed in my youth. Actually. I didn't kill it, it derailed on my high bridge, dropped 4 feet to a cement floor! Plastic shell was OK, but the frame was in pieces.Sad  BUT on the bright side, it got replaced by a Mantua pacific I still own, 40 years later!Big Smile

Oh well, time to hit the hay!  L8ter all!

Karl

NCE über alles! Thumbs Up

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Wednesday, September 11, 2013!!

Today is Patriot Day, {USA} Let Us REMEMBER, Lest we forget.

I haven't been mentioning it, but I have kept the candles going for those who need them, it just seemed that, for awhile, no one needed them! {which is  a good thing}. Thoughts and prayers for Flip's operation, and for the others who need them!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

Today's fun limerick:

A man and his lady-love, Min,

Skated out where the ice was quite thin,

Had a quarrel, no doubt,

For I hear they fell out;

What a blessing they didn't fall in!

ANd another one just for you:

There was a consumer named Phil

 Who really wanted to kill

A sly young vendor

Made him a big spender

And gave him a very large bill

Olde Tyme words {still valid today?}:

'Petrichor ' -  After a dry spell, this is the nice smell that comes after it rains finally

'Draisine' - Very early bicycle designed by Baron von Drais { I want to ride my draisine, I want to ride my drai,-nah, doesn't have the same ring to it as bicycle, Queen couldn't do this one!!}

'Troke' - To fail; unable to do something;  or, to deceive.

MAKE IT A GREat DAY!!

Where were you on 9/11?

On September 11, 2001, Shelley and I were staying in Halifax, NS in a waterfront hotel. We spent the day watching the horrors on TV. On that day about 50 trans-Atlantic flights were diverted to Halifax which crowded the airport and stranded thousands of travelers. We, too, were stranded. We did not know when flights were to be restored, and we would be afraid to fly anyhow.. Who knew what the terrorists would do next?

We spent several days in Halifax. Eventually,we were able to purchase tickets on Via Rail to begin a journey home. We road "The Ocean" to Montreal. Next, we road a Via train to Toronto. We spent 2 nights in downtown Toronto. Then we rode Amtrak's "International" a train that went to Chicago on CN and GTW tracks. (Amtrak has since discontinued this train.) The train was halted in Sarnia, Ontario where all passengers had to take a bus across the border to Port Huron . The train went empty to Port Huron and waited for the buses. This made the train several hours late. We got off the train in Flint, MI where we rented a car. We drove the rental car to the Nashville, TN airport to get our car. We had departed Nashville for Halifax about 12 days before.

I would have waved at Barry as our "International" passed through London, ON, but did not know him at the time.

Good Morning...  9/11....

I was at my Father's house outside of Canandaigua.  He had a heart attack 2 days before and I was there to be at his house when the carpet installers arrived to put in a new living room and hall carpet they had bought.  Needless to say work stopped when the news came out.  They continued to install the carpet, but didn't get it finished until the following morning.  Difficult day for all good people in the world!  Kyrie Eleison..........

No relief from the heat this week. The high is gonna be 95° all the way through Monday. Later today I'll probably be going to town to get a haircut. That depends on how my father feels after his eye exam today. Tomorrow I'll be going to see the doc so he can check my ears. For a month now I've been hearing my blood pulsing in my ears day and night. It's load enough I can hear it even with the TV going and it's interfering with what sleep I can get. I'm lucky if I can get five hours.

I see by my calender that today is September 11th. The morning of September 11th, 2001 I was at work on my newspaper route. I had just turned off a dirt road onto a secondary highway, hwy 464 in this case. As was my habit I was listening to Morning Edition on NPR. If I remember correctly the fall fundraiser was on when the program was interrupted by a report that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. At first it was thought it was maybe a small private plane but then the news came that it was a airliner. Not long after came another report that a second airliner had hit the other tower and there were the reports of one hitting the Pentagon. A little while later I stopped at a small store where the owner and I watched the towers fall. To say that I was upset about that would be an understatement. I was downright livid! Prime things on my mind were the lives and safety of those at the scene and a burning desire to get my hands on those responsible.

Currently it is 65 with an expected high of 88, with a few clouds in the afternoon. It should be a nice day weather wise.

Eye doc appointment went well yesterday, minor irritation in my left eye. Told to use the regular prescription drops, as required, and some others in that eye and take it easy, so went back home and called in sick. Off today, will do some laundry and take it easy.

9-11-2001, driving into work heard the original report of a plane hitting WTC, was shocked, then when heard the rest of the report was angry as can be. Having been raised in NY, and still had many friends and relatives in NYPD and NYFD, not to mention a few friends who actually helped build WTC, I felt a strong need to go HOME and help. My wife convinced me there was really not much I could do. I felt very helpless. None of my family, or friends lost their lives that day, but some were injured. I still have a hard time watching the events.

Prayers to all in need, especially Flip and Johnboy.

Afternoon guys

9-11-2001. It was my first year out of high school and was working a full time job at a grocery store, so I was just getting used to the idea of not being in school in the fall. I remember it was a beautiful fall day with just a hint of cool in the air. I as watching Regis and Kelly when they broke the news. I spent the morning watching it on TV only have to work in the afternoon. I can remember going and there was nobody on that road that day and the store maybe saw 50 people all day. Just a day I will never forget.
