I was digging around in my old photos and came across this, taken around the time of Katrina and Rita.

Hi guys! I have returned. Just a Dr. Pepper for me. Thanks.

I have been on the road since almost the beginning of the month and I can tell you with conviction that whoever said a cross country drive is good for the soul did not know what they were talking about. It was tough. It was brutal. It was something I do not want to have to do again! Visiting 186 scrap yards and 254 recycling centers was a major pain in the back side. I used my own vehicle. That poor truck will never be the same again. I did save a lot on motels though. I learned a long time from this great guy that there are many good low cost motels just off the beaten track in most cities that charge a small fraction what the franchise outfits do. Speaking of that guy I went to see him today and he is doing just great. He has a fantastic little set of wheels that he zips around the house on. I looked at the work he is doing on some of his trains and the pics I saw do not do his work justice. What he can do with other peoples junk constantly amazes me. It is something I do not have the talent for.

In school news - I have graduated. The diploma is on the way. There is one thing I have learned about running a business. It is like a child. It wants everything it's way and it wants it now! I can see how some guys run themselves ragged.

Until next time, have a great day and remember, your junk could be somebody else's treasure.

ULRICH,

Here is one for you before your big day,

The reason Politicians try so hard to get re-elected is that they would "hate" to have to make a living under the laws they have passed.

Keep that in mind good Buddy and the very best of luck for you tomorrow.

Good Morning Folks!

This is it - the day of truth or consequences!

I am all edgy! Will the endless hours of sweat and toil finally pay off? If so, that´d be a kind of democratic revolution. Never before will have a party achieved what we may have achieved - in such a short time!

Well, time now will tell! Petra and I will be off to the polling station soon. At 3 pm our time I´ll be heading to Hannover, at 6.05 pm we will see the first forecast and by 8 pm I will know for sure...

I´ll let you folks know first thing in the morning tomorrow!

Have a good day!

morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!!

Today is Sunday, September 22, 2013!

MAKE IT  A GREAT DAY!!

Today's fun limericks:

Here lies a young salesman named Phipps,
Who married on one of his trips,
A widow named Block,
Then died of the shock,
When he saw there were six little chips.

There once was a man from Bombay
who wore on his head a toupee.
He thought that he might
give friends a delight
and remove his toup for a day.

Olde Tyme words:

Saponaceous - A soapy, slippery, evasive individual.

Kilkenny Cats - People who fight relentlessly to the bitter end

Limbeck - To wear yourself out trying to come up with new ideas. {that is what I am here wihthways to amuse you in the morning!}

HOORAY! ULRICH FOR BUNDESTAG!

{and don't you forget it!}

It was funny to see my own name on the ballot. Participation seems to be up from last time - we had to queue up to enter the box.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday breakfast buffet please. Thanks.

Sunny, with a high near 71.

You know, Garry may have something thereHmm. It has been remarkably quiet in here the last couple days. Maybe we need to do some wo*k on the exhaust fan in the looConfused. I mean I never noticed anything but you know what they say, a skunk never smells it’s own stinkWhistling. Besides, why me? Ever thought maybe Ray’s pumpkin flax? Pretty sure THAT stuff can shoot through you like a roto rooter. Hm?

David- Good to see you again! Glad the business is doing well for you and congrats on the diploma!!

Not sure what I’ll do today. I know I’m sittin with my fingers crossed for Ulrich right now, but later who knows. Did nothing yesterday othern go to the Harvest Festival in Petersburg for a couple hours, so that list remains. May go get the light fixture and door latch today when we go to dinner and the grocery store. New Aldi’s opened across the street from Walmart and everyone says how great they are. Never been to one so we may go see. Brenda has and they're around, I just never been to one. Who knows. Depends on if I have a quarter for a cart and remember some bags.

Good morning to all.  Gloomy and dank this morning in New England, with a bit of rain.  My wife had signed up for one of those "event" bike rides, so she was out of the house at Oh-Dark-Hundred with her bike in the car, to ride in the rain.  In contrast, our daughter came home for the weekend, and she and I took a lovely ride right out of our driveway yesterday, in bright sunshine and 70 degree temperatures.  To each his own, I guess.

Ulrich, I'll be following the resutls.  The BBC's coverage included this picture:

  Morning All,

Currently it is 48 with an expected high of 70 under sunny and not so windy skies.

Not much going on here. Yesterday it was so windy here, I could not get anything done, except pick up my garbage can several times from being knocked over by the wind. So I will try and accomplish today, what I was supposed to do yesteray.

  Best of luck to Ulrich.

  Prayers to all in need.

Good afternoon. It's 74° with 51% humidity. The high will be 82° and will feel like 86°.

Had a little bit of a mishap this morning. I dropped a piece of clear plastic 'glass' and it just got lost on the carpet. So I was going to get down there and see if I could find it. So I got out of my chair and was lowering myself down when I lost my balance and down  I went and not at the angle I had planned on. Landed on my butt which was nice as there's plenty of padding there. The momentum carried me on over onto my back and my head just missed the leg of a Steel Case desk that's next to my computer table here (one of those old steel, wood and masonite things the army bought lots of back in the 70's and 80's). I was none the worse for wear and I realized that when I fell I was more concerned with hitting the table and splashing my drink that I was about getting hurt. Oh well, no harm done. It took me about ten seconds to find the piece of plastic and about that long again to get back on my chair.

Today's task is to put 'glass' in the windshield and window openings of one or maybe both of the Zamac F3 shells. The window kit comes in one piece that apparently can be clipped right into place. That may work fine in a plastic shell but it doesn't even begin in a metal shell. So far I've had to cut sides of the windshield free and carefully trim almost all of the plastic from the edges so they will fit in place. It was while attempting to fit one of the pieces that it turned and dropped through the windshield opening and through the help of something that somebody named gravity it ended up on the carpet. See how that ties in with what's above? Anyway I now both sides of the windshield fitted in place and secured with super glue. The windows are next. If they require the same amount of attention as the first two pieces I may be at this all day. As much of a battle as it's been so far I may fill in the window openings with clear glue as I did the portholes.

Howdy ..

We lost the connection with our AT&T DSL late last night. I called AT&T repair, and never got a human. Not even Bombay Bob. Instead, Silicon Sally told me there was an outage in my area based on the phone number I used to call them. I don't know how big an area was affected. .... This morning, it was connected but speed was about 5% of normal, and most web pages timed out before they opened. ...  Service was finally restored a short while ago.

ULRICH ....... Here is the news we have. " WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- German voters re-elected Angele Merkel as chancellor on Sunday, but the shape of her new government was still too close to call, reports said. Exit polls suggested Merkel's current coalition partner may not get enough votes for a place in parliament."  ............  We'll await he Details from you! Big Smile ..... An Karl is waiting for the Beer

David .... Thanks for visiting the DIner. I am very pleased to hear your news! Big Smile

Todd ..... I'm sorry for the false accusation. I should have known it was a skunk! Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeff .... Who would have thought a little [iece of [lastic would be so hazardous? ... I like the photo with the car lights on.

Paul and Lion .... Don't get blown away!

Cheers, everybody!

Bad news, folks - we have failed to overcome the 5% hurdle. Although the official result is not yet in, recent forecast show us at 4.9%...

Sorry - no Ulrich in the Bundestag!

I am too tired to think about the consequences of this. but with Ms. Merkel holding the reigns anothe 4 years, this country is doomed. Anybody got a place for Petra and me?

Sorry to hear of this. Was hoping for you! Are you sure it is over? all votes in and accounted for?

You and Petra are welcome to the computer room in our trailer in Upstate NY! {we will move out the 'puter}!

don't despair..lots of failed election people over here get appointed to or succeed in jobs {often political} after failing an election, so something brilliant may open up for you!!!

I've been checking the results all day from Germany Ulrich. Point 1 percent short really is a margin to lose by that is worse than getting blown out of the water. My wife Jean and myself have really been hoping that you'd make it into the Bundestag. Both for your own sake and the sake of Germany itself. We feel so bad for both you and Petra.

Good afternoon ..

Ulrich .... I'm sad for you. I wanted you to win. .....  I am not very familiar with Germany's politics. From what I can tell, there are several political parties. From what little I understand, Angela Merkel's party is right of center, and in recent years she and her party had a coalition with a party that was left of center. From what I understand about these election results, her party gained more seats, and it will not need to coalition with the other party. That sounds like Germany's government had move moderately more conservative than it had been. .. Am I close?.... Of course you and Petra are welcome here if you can make such a move. However, we certainly have problems here also. .... Don't forget, our next world (Heaven) will be perfect except it might not have trains.

Win or lose, we can still have a Beer or several together, maybe even some schnitzel too! Dinner No need to hang your head, as you put up a good fight, which is more than most would do.

Well I fought with most of the windows that I put in one of the F3's then used clear tape and Go2Glue to finish the job. I then made all the window and porthole glass for the other F3 using the tape and glue method. And I got a surprise today. My nieces husband brought me an XBox 360 and some games to play. It's set up and ready to go. I'll get around to checking it out sometime later. It's not a high priority right now.

Evenin' Folks!

Chloe I'll have a Beer and maybe a few more tonight...

Ulrich sorry to hear you fell a bit short in the vote.  Maybe next time!

Been out at the R&GV RR Museum all day.  Had a good sized crowd, but no where as good as last week.  Had a gentleman who is 90 years old pay a vist.  he appeared to have a great time.  Several babies only a few months old, lots of other children, and my DIL's uncle and aunt.  I made sure they got a cab ride in the GE 80 Tonner on the way back North to meet the trolley.  They also got a good look at the controls and how a locomotive operates.  They seemed to be grinning from ear to ear when they climbed off the loco...

I had a very interesting ride home...  Here is a clip from my new car cam...  (you may want to turn the sound down as 1.)  the car is nowhere near that noisy and 2.)  I appear to utter a word not permitted here.  I think you would too under the circumstances...)

http://s66.photobucket.com/user/slow_rr/media/Video%20File/20120316_185307A_zps05600843.mp4.html

I'm going to check out the posts around here I missed today, try to get warm.  It was chilly out at the museum except in the Agents Office where they fired up the wood stove.  Cabooses will be heated in a couple more weeks I bet!

Later!

Ulrich, while I know it's a disappointment, remember that your party is new, running for the Bundestag for the first time, right?  In any case, you came very close and probably exceeded expectations of the pundits.

Now that people realize you are for real, they will pay more attention to what you have to offer, and not think of a vote for you as a vote thrown away.

As they say, it's not a sprint.  It's a marathon.

In the words of Bill Cosby, "First you say it, then you do it!"  Lets just say I had a bit of nerves for a while...  I was more worried about deer out by the road than nut jobs driving the wrong way on a freeway exit!  Kinda wondering how far he went before he turned around.
